Hey, Kaiu, thanks for that great video! May I ask a question - sorry if it sounds stupid. You're always saying "streaming" - but will what which is captured also be recorded? I would like to use your method to bypass the 30 minute shut-off when I record a RUclips video, but from all things said I am not sure if this method is only for streaming or if my camera feed will be recorded. And another question: IF it records too, WHERE to? Onto the PC? Or am I facing then a limited GB on the capture card? Thank you so much again! Greetings from Germany
Hi! So to clarify I’m saying streaming but I mean more to use it as a webcam for any purpose also. To answer your question, yes you can use the exact same method for recording. OBS or Streamlabs OBS or a similar streaming program can also be used to record your video feed. Essentially, instead of using the program to stream your feed to the internet, you can instead just record it (there is a record button just under the start streaming button on OBS). You wont be limited by storage space on your SD card as it will record to your Computer. The only limitation is as mentioned you wont get autofocus from the camera when using this method. Feel free to jump into my Discord server if you want further help with this.
@@Kaiu24 Thanks so much! People like you make the internet the wonderful place it is! I just downloaded the Streamlabs software, but listen to that: "This app wants permission to do anything you can do on your RUclips account. For example, it will be able to see, edit and delete your videos, playlists and subscriptions, rate videos, as well as post, edit or delete your comments and captions." "This app wants permission to see the following: A list of current active members on your channel with the name of their RUclips channel and their channel URL The profile picture of each current active member on your channel How long each current active member has been a member of their current level on your channel How long each current active member has been a member on your channel When each member purchased their current active membership on your channel Information about the levels you offer on your channel (e.g., level names)" "View your videos and playlists View your RUclips activity" O.M.G. To bypass this I think I may just open a Twitch account which I won't use anyway, so they can watch me there all they want.
@@peterpan8147 i personally use OBS instead of streamlabs OBS. I feel its a bit more flexible and I dont think you necessarily have to link to your account to use it. I could be wrong. Yes creating a twitch account for streaming could be helpful to just set this up, you don’t necessarily have to stream on it.
Hi. So I’ve been recently been using the M50 mark 2 now for a bit and everytime I open the utility software, the camera still turns off even when I’m still using it. Idk how to get it to work.
Do you mean the screen turns off or the whole camera turns off? You can change the screen off time in the settings. For the Mark ii also all the stuff in this video is not necessary as it has clean hdmi mode. You should turn that on for streaming and you do not need to use the utility software if you are connected via capture card. Check out my Canon M200 for streaming video on my channel. It will be the same as that
real quick help me. when you opened the utility it said tracking face (AF) ON, but you turned it off on the camera to get rid of the borders so you can have a clean feed (you set it to manual) - but with the utility, it's still keeping your face into focus? how does that work....sounds to be like manual focus can go wrong during a stream and next thing you know your busy with gaming and unless somebody tells you your camera will look like sht
The utility app is honestly just there for added ease of control but with regards to auto focus, once its off on the camera, the utility app wont change that regardless. So the camera will always have to be in manual focus mode otherwise the box stays on the screen which you don’t want. Tbh I don’t see where the manual focus will go wrong as long as you aren’t moving a whole lot during streams. Ive never had an issue with it. I also use a manual focus only lens for my streams so it makes no difference personally to me. Basically if the camera is set to manual focus the utility app wont override that. Utility app is mainly there to stop camera falling asleep
Hi. Just to clarify, regardless of which lens you use, if using the M50 for streaming via the method in the video, you wont get auto-focus. This is because auto focus needs to be turned off on the camera and focus set manually so that the focus box doesn’t appear on your video feed. (This is due to lack of clean hdmi support on the camera).
What is the benefit with that capture card? I am using same camera via usb and as u can see from my newest vids, they suck in sharpness :D So do i get same sharpens as you with that capture card?
The capture card transfers the hdmi feed from the camera to the pc. Its much higher quality as its through a HdmI cable. So yes if you use this method with the capture card and hdmi cable you will get the same sharpness
The steps are identical on Mac, you just need to download the Mac version of the EOS utility 3 and OBS apps. Otherwise there is practically no difference and should work in the same way.
It seems I get an image of the wrong aspect ratio out from the cameras hdmi signal with a black box at the top and at the bottom. Are you aware of any such things? I did not press record however.
Hey mate great video just wondering are you saying that when it's connect to the HDMI that the flexible screen turns off ? I was kind of hoping it would be on as it's easy to talk to my other camera when I can see myself I'm the flip screen , thanks in advance
Hi, yes unfortunately the flexible screen turns off. I agree, its a bit unfortunate but the M50 just wasn’t built with streaming in mind. This is the best workaround I’ve found, so the screen going blank and manual focus only, are the big downsides
Thank you so much, I just purchased Used CANON M50 for videos, and I do want to stream. I may get another streaming camera ( besides my web cam ) phone and go pro 5 hero, but I loved this video.. you info was detailed... thank you
actually, Now i tried to set it up, But every time I insert the HDMI the camera shuts off , Both with battery, and my fake corded battery as well. I do have the SIM card in and I tried 2 different HDMI 1 4k and other regular? and I have the capture card also. any Thoughts? UPDATE, I missed the micro part, but my computer is not recognizing it, should i try other cords? and when i still connect the HDMI cord it still shuts off ugh lol
Its not that it shuts off, the screen will transfer the signal to the pc so it looks like its gone off. You have to view it in the utility app to see what’s happening
Thanks for this great video! I have a problem though that you might be able to answer. I do exactly what you say in the video but when I choose the capture card my M50 is connected to (MAGEWELL USB Capture HDMI) in OBS the colored striped "No signal" screen comes up. Do you have any ideas why I have no signal from the camera into OBS via this capture card (it works with all my other cameras)?
That method is fine for anyone who wants to use it and not worried about the output quality. The big difference is that the max output resolution with the webcam utility is I thing 540p . This is fine if you use as a normal webcam. But if you want to use for streaming on twitch or youtube or somewhere else where you want a higher quality output then this method allows full 1080p resolution and there is a clear quality difference.
I’m having trouble connecting my camera to the eos utility software. Any tips? Do I need a wifi chip for my PC or something to connect my camera to my pc/software?
Once you have set everything up, do you HAVE to put it on manual focus? Can you keep it on autofocus? I make art videos so crisp and clear is important!
With this camera it has to be Manual focus because otherwise the white focus box will show up unfortunately. This is the downside of the M50 which they fixed with the M50 Mark II
@@Kaiu24 ok cool, that's why I asked because I have the Mark II. So I can use the autofocus with that one without the square appearing? I just got the camera this weekend!
@@stephaniemartel yes! Absolutely. So with the Mark II you don’t have to follow this method. If you look in the setting for the camera there should be a setting for clean HDMI (see this video for m200, it’s essentially the same method ruclips.net/video/jetNMoUTmd4/видео.html ) And with that you can absolutely use the autofocus without any issues. Hope this helps, feel free to reach out on any of my social platforms and I will be happy to help
Hello. Any input you can provide as. I’ve just upgraded to the m50 mark ii which include clean hdmi yet the color I’m getting within OBS are completely off. Fyi. I’m using the “full” color option under the advanced section of OBS. Yet colors are still way off. Thanks.

@@devanteford8556 make sure the video source you add is the capture card and not the eos utility. What software are you using for the streaming? (What do you intend to use the camera as webcam for?)
The M50 mkii does not need this method. It already has clean hdmi and unlimited runtime, there should be a setting that activates the clean hdmi and from there you only need to plug in the capture card.
Hi, I’m trying to use two canon m50s to stream. Is there a way to use the EOS utility with more than one cam to keep them “alive” (avoid them switching off at 30 minutes mark)?
I dont think thats possible running from the same pc/laptop. You could possibly set up the second m50 with eos utility on a second laptop, thats the only solution that comes to mind
Yes and no. The utility lets you keep the camera on for unlimited amount of time (the camera wont shut down or cut the feed. The clean hdmi you still have to hit the info button until all the onscreen icons disappear and then toggle the camera to manual mode to get rid of AF box. The video should explain it all
Welcome, of course you can also use the eos webcam utility to use the camera as a webcam directly without a capture card but the quality is significantly worse and for me its just not good enough!
This is amazing, thanks so much for the info dude! I did have a quick question though 😅 how did you get around the issue with the camera not turning on if the battery door is open? Not sure if I've got a different version of the M50, but mine has a little trigger where the camera won't turn on if the battery door is open 😭 did you have this issue at all?
There is a little runner door by the battery door that allows you to pull the wire through and close the door. Have a closer look. It may be a rubber part on the door itself
With all info screens turned off, sometimes during live feed battery info and exposure pops up without explanation. This can be triggered by going over capture button in EOS utility, but happens also when minimized. Help?
I am streaming with m50 connected to pc via elgato capture card to obs but after some seconds my screen from m50 closes. Is NOT THE VIewfinder i do not know how to change that. My record is fine and obs take the photo. Only screen from my camera goes black.
You need to change the auto screen off settings in camera. In general the screen will turn off anyway because the M50 isnt built for streaming. If you watch my whole video I explain this at some point
Help! I have a problem - as soon as my USB cable connects the camera shows a laptop sign which translates to OBS as well. So I basically can't stream. It used to work at some point, but now I can't seem to get it to work. Any tips?
Wait, do I get it right, with this setup I can keep the camera on + I can use AutoFocus without having an annoying square on top of my face? Please someone kindly confirm. I've been looking for a solution to use my M50 with the same lens you've got for recording videos and using it as a normal webcam. None of the webcams I've got come close in quality to this. I've been considering using SparkCam to achieve this but it looks like it is not necessary.
So the autofocus won’t work. The only way to get rid of the white box is to put the camera in Manual mode, its explained in the video. So this method will 1. Let you use the camera as webcam with a clear view 2. Camera will not turn off after 30mins 3.BUT the camera has to be in manual focus mode to achieve the clear feed.
@@Kaiu24 BTW, Canon released their own software time ago EOS webcam utility which sort of solves everything but free version allows for 720p only. Pro requires annual subscription which IMHO is a rip-off from Canon, feels like being nickel'n'dimed.
@@UldisBiz yes this exists but the quality coming out of it is subpar at best, which is why I don’t recommend it. I have a whole video made on this too.
Thanks for the video brother! I’m about to pick up a Canon M 50 and I have a unique situation with quadriplegia and limited arm function. And I am in the process of setting up a RUclips rolling stand with a Microsoft surface pro 6.0 as a monitor so that I can Record RUclips content and record zoom interviews. I may possibly get into live streaming stuff down the road so I wanna make sure I make the best choice for myself. I guess the main question is is will I need to do much fiddling with the camera before I can start some thing. I guess another way of asking it would be can I have someone set things up so I’m good to roll up and then make things happen on my own. I have a stylus strapped to my right hand so basically I have one finger. I have a feeling I didn’t ask this very clearly😂
Hi! I completely get what you are asking. My personal advice in your case would be if possible spend a little more and grab the m50 mark ii, its much easier to setup for live streaming and the autofocus works perfectly while streaming without the need for all this extra stuff. Otherwise, you can just set everything up the one time and then the only thing you may need to adjust is the focus each time as with the original m50 and this workaround method, the camera has to be set to manual focus (as I mention in the video). If you intend to just have the setup ready to roll over and start recording then you will only ever have to set it all up once and then you just gotta adjust the focus before you start streaming. Hope that makes sense? Happy to answer any questions
@@Kaiu24 thanks for your great feedback! I was thinking that might be the case from a few other things I’ve heard. Would there be any other cameras you would recommend are with the mark two be a good starting place for an entry-level RUclipsr?

I just downloaded the Streamlabs software, but listen to that:
"This app wants permission to do anything you can do on your RUclips account. For example, it will be able to see, edit and delete your videos, playlists and subscriptions, rate videos, as well as post, edit or delete your comments and captions."
"This app wants permission to see the following:
A list of current active members on your channel with the name of their RUclips channel and their channel URL
The profile picture of each current active member on your channel
How long each current active member has been a member of their current level on your channel
How long each current active member has been a member on your channel
When each member purchased their current active membership on your channel
Information about the levels you offer on your channel (e.g., level names)"
"View your videos and playlists
View your RUclips activity"
O.M.G.
Hi, great tutorial !! I just didn't understand how to prevent the camera from turning off after 30min ??
So connecting the Usb first and loading up Eos utility 3 basically keeps the camera alive for longer than 30 minutes
@@Kaiu24 thanks !!
Great video! Will this lens work for auto-focus for videos with the Canon M50 on my mac? Thanks!
Thank you for this video. Solved my problem
Exactly the information I was looking for.
Thank you so much!
Most Welcome!!!
Thanks for the video, great tips, can I do all this as per the video and still use a capture card? would there be any improvement in this regard?
The video is mainly to show how it CAN be used with a capture card. Its significantly better quality than using the webcam utility on its own
This was very useful, thx!
This was tremendous help!
Hi, thank you very much for this useful video. May I ask if you have this same video but for Mac.
The steps are identical on Mac, you just need to download the Mac version of the EOS utility 3 and OBS apps. Otherwise there is practically no difference and should work in the same way.
@@Kaiu24 thank you for the prompt reply
what is the difference when I don't use HDMI only USB is it going to affect the resolution?
Yes I think USB via the eos utility is max 510p vs 1080p on HDMI. The quality over hdmi and capture card is wayyy better
i love this guy man so helpful
Thanks!! Glad I can help.
It seems I get an image of the wrong aspect ratio out from the cameras hdmi signal with a black box at the top and at the bottom. Are you aware of any such things? I did not press record however.
Make sure the camera is set to manual video mode and that the camera aspect ratio is default and not 16:9
How long is it recommended to keep the camera on so that it does not get hot?
When connected like this it shouldn’t get too hot, ive used it for over 4 hours without issue

As far as I can see it only supports Catalina. Does it not work on Monterey? I havent tried it to be honest

I may get another streaming camera ( besides my web cam ) phone and go pro 5 hero, but I loved this video.. you info was detailed... thank you
Glad I could help! You made a great choice with the M50! Its a great all rounder
actually, Now i tried to set it up, But every time I insert the HDMI the camera shuts off , Both with battery, and my fake corded battery as well.
You r doing a very hard work, be successful, feel sorry for your ✋, poor thing!
Im sorry I have no idea why thats happened. Have you found a solution yet?
@@Kaiu24 Yes. It works with newer capture cards, so the MAGEWELL is probably too old. Thanks!/Peter
awesome man, that's the info what I look for, thanks!
I can use my M50 as webcam with USB with EOS Webcam Utility. What's the real difference with this?
That method is fine for anyone who wants to use it and not worried about the output quality. The big difference is that the max output resolution with the webcam utility is I thing 540p . This is fine if you use as a normal webcam. But if you want to use for streaming on twitch or youtube or somewhere else where you want a higher quality output then this method allows full 1080p resolution and there is a clear quality difference.

Thanks! Yes it should work with windows 7
If you look in the setting for the camera there should be a setting for clean HDMI (see this video for m200, it’s essentially the same method ruclips.net/video/jetNMoUTmd4/видео.html )
And with that you can absolutely use the autofocus without any issues.

Thanks.
Thats strange, have you checked the picture profile in the camera? Also what capture card are you using with it?

How do I make it not turn off after 30 minutes of transmission? Thank you
The video explains this quite clearly I think. Plugging into the pc and running the EOS utility is what keeps it alive
Does this work with canon m50 mark ii?
The M50 mkii does not need this method. It already has clean hdmi and unlimited runtime, there should be a setting that activates the clean hdmi and from there you only need to plug in the capture card.
So you did this with a canon m50 mark i???
Hi, I’m trying to use two canon m50s to stream. Is there a way to use the EOS utility with more than one cam to keep them “alive” (avoid them switching off at 30 minutes mark)?
I dont think thats possible running from the same pc/laptop. You could possibly set up the second m50 with eos utility on a second laptop, thats the only solution that comes to mind
So if i want to get clean hdmi, i just use eos utility ?
Yes and no. The utility lets you keep the camera on for unlimited amount of time (the camera wont shut down or cut the feed. The clean hdmi you still have to hit the info button until all the onscreen icons disappear and then toggle the camera to manual mode to get rid of AF box. The video should explain it all
@@Kaiu24 yes ty brother

Sorry, no idea what could be causing this. Havent faced this issue myself
What kind of resolutions are being pushed to the pc? Could I shoot in 1080p 60fps and actually have that through OBS with this method?
Yes if you use a Camlink or high end capture card. If you use the cheap ones max output is 1080p 30fps
I am streaming with m50 connected to pc via elgato capture card to obs but after some seconds my screen from m50 closes. Is NOT THE VIewfinder i do not know how to change that. My record is fine and obs take the photo. Only screen from my camera goes black.

So the only thing is the autofocus will not work. The only way to remove the annoying white box is put the camera in manual focus mode
So the autofocus won’t work. The only way to get rid of the white box is to put the camera in Manual mode, its explained in the video. So this method will
