GREAT video! Cool intro to a rising Star i bet..:) ..and I still like the Mini over the GT,but haven't bought either yet..I need more practice because I want long range fpv..:)
Thank you for revisiting the mini Talon! I love mine:-). Set up with Dragonlink and 360 degree panning fpv and session 5. Perfect for running along the southern California shoreline....and of course the beach makes a perfect landing strip.....nice and long!
Really nice green gras ... as we have it currently while summer. Damn good weather for winter too compared to our late autmn and winter without seeing the sun for weeks
Great video Andrew the intro was adorable! I love the rebel GT, never did like the Mini Talon. With that said I wish Ready Made RC would send you a strix stratosurfer to review just because it's my favorite mid to long-range plane and I know you would love it too. It's like a Bix 2 on steroids LOL. Happy flying good sure see you on the next one 😛 Rob
Stifler 3D parts are good but adding more weight to an already heavy plane isn’t what everyone wants to do. Don’t get me wrong there are descent looking with all these 3D parts added but honestly it makes the plane much to heavy
Interesting to watch. What struck me most was that the X-UAV Mini Talon was first released around 3yrs ago and and the differences in the design reflect the changes both technically and in the market itself. _I love the Mini Talon, but I'm probably biased coz I've flown it a fair bit in the last couple of years and I haven't been as lucky with the GT_
Hi Andrew. I'm searching for a medium range fpv plane and my options are: Mini Talon, Talon GT or Talon Evo. I like ZOHD evo for portability and GT for all construction details. I'm currios how do you compare the 3 planes regarding: 1. flight efficency (how much energy they use for a certain distance), 2. flight stability on mannual (I understood that Evo shakes alot in turbulent air), 3. I understood that ZOHD ecological foam is much weeker that mini talon foam and it's not that resistant to hard landings. Can you help me with your opinion?I'm searching for easy takeoff, land, flight, compact to carry, efficient flying, resistant. Thank you.
Talon GT is the Goldilocks Talon for me. The Evolution is fun around the park, and the Mini Talon is the weight carrier for long range, but the Talon GT is just right for park, chasing and medium range.
Great video Andrew [as usual]. Yes...Mini talons are top notch platforms. I see its winter time there down under. Can't wait for cooler weather. It's stifling hot here. To hot to fly actually LOL. Greetings from Florida USA
Jason Jackson also you get better RF range in thin air unlike hot humid days where the air is heavy. You may get better thermals in summer but RF imo is way better specially with vtx at 5.8ghz. That’s just my Opinion
Hi yokonunz. Perfect trim is a rarity. Just checked the last 6 maidens and all required immediate trimming, some had to be landed to move the pushrods.
Very nice Video, the Modell flyes pretty fast, but Predictable, on Final, i tought, wow is this fast, but it behaves quiet friendly 👍🏻interessting to see Your Launch from behinde, this Plane is really forgiving, Your Throw is a little bit slant, excellent Take off Behaviour, it was a Pleasure to watch, best Wishes and many happy Landings, Anton 🇦🇹Vienna
Ah, a proper plane, the Mini Talon....I still have another 2 in box, I may make a super light one for short range FPV. It will outperform the ZOHD GT in a real Long Range contest, no bother, it can carry a bigger Lipo and its faster too. Good side by side comparison. Your assistant stole the show at the end....lol.
It's definitely more of a long range platform with twice the internal volume and wing area. As for speed? I'll have to test the PNP versions of both for myself. Thea is a natural performer.
The MT is really really hard to beat. I have always flown mine with a 4S 8Ah battery and it never seemed especially hard to launch, and not too bad to land either. 40 minutes flying left that battery at storage charge. A few days ago I tried it with a lighter 4S 5Ah and it could sustain altitude at 3.4 amps! I don't have the Talon GT but I suspect one of the advantages the MT has is durability - my MT hit a hillside at almost 80km/h (at 1640g all-up weight) and survived with fairly minimal damage, somehow I don't think the GT would fare so well.
I maiden mine yesterday. It flew great except for yaw. Inav loaded 0 for all yaw pids values. I used 6p9i and 50ff. It seamed even though steared left it went only a little right. They are set up properly. My question is, should I just do away with yaw and just use yank and bank? Or do you have yaw working properly? Thanks!
Excuse my ignorance so I may be writing rubbish. I have sometimes found once I centre my servo's that I end up with different travel/positioning for the same stick input on twin servo aileron set ups or with delta wings. Sometimes it doesn't matter much and other times you can see poor behaviour in loops or a left roll vs a right roll. I know people do "servo balancing" if they have more than one servo moving the same surface but I am wondering if it can be used to fix my issue. I guess you could do it via curves on my TX, but what do you do when you use an FC, such as INAV? If you know anything a video would be appreciated.
There are often differences in same brand servos. To get identical throws you can adjust the end points and mid point in your radio while watching the control surface movement. With iNav you would do that in the Servos window rather than the radio.
How do you compare both in terms of wind penetration? I'm looking for a 30km round trip with moderate winds everytime (along the sea)... Thanks in advance
Have a gander at Stunt Double’s MiniTalon. Skip the gimble but there are links to Mark QV’s amazing 3D printable mods that transform this airframe to a true aero. The canopy and bearinged pan and tilt camera mount options are fantastic! My AUW is 1650g with a 4400mAh 4s cruises at 80kph using 6-7amps and stays aloft 30-40 minutes using 1/2 capacity. But the kit and enjoy the build! (Cute Mini Newton, btw!)
Only thing I don’t like about my MT is the battery compartment bay. I’ll be cutting my front canopy open more as well so I can easily get at my battery to install. Also these Mini talons are difficult to land. Adding flaps can be done but it’s also causes different issues. Still it’s a great plane but I don’t tend to fly mine to often unless we are at our farm where I have plenty of space to land.
Yes, a difficult choice. Mini Talon is easier setup with single motor. Binary looks better but much more wiring. Both are really good but I seem to fly the Binary more.
hmm, I use a youtuber's opinion on the new zohd products to decide whose opinion i trust. and the fact that you chose the talon gt over the mini talon does not bode well. I am thinking someone is putting their Banggood money ahead of their integrity.
Hahaha......Jack you couldnt be further from the truth I know Andrew personally and i assure you he definately has no allegiances to any of the suppliers Hes not like most who reviews and moves on he actually takes time and enjoyment out of improving most models and actually getting them to fly as HE thinks they should Maybe you should meet the man himself before you go out accusing him of “fudging the books” Keep up the great work Andrew 👏👏👏
@@AndrewNewton I apologise, I shouldn't question your integrity, I am just really tired of seeing these reviews where models that I know are complete garbage, yet they seem to get awesome reviews. I bought the Dart XL, and it is made out of marshmallow, flies like a pig, and I had to change the thrust angle DRASTICALLY, just to make it usable. My buddy bought the Talon GT, and it is just as bad if not worse. ZOHD shouldn't be forcing their customers to do the R&D. The Talon GT is already missing it's wingtips and lower rear fin. And I'll say it again, the foam is worthless, weak crumbly crap. The airframes are absolutely compromised structurally.
Nice aircraft and great demonstration a very nice flier indeed. Thanks to your sweet guest Thea, and remember Happy Flying.
Thanks. She is a delight
Thx Andrew! Nice review.
The only plane you'll ever need!

Yes I prefer the compact size of the Talon GT. The Mini Talon is a big plane, not mini at all.

Such confidence eh?

Hi Andrew! What's your trick to get almost every plane to launch, on maiden, almost perfectly trimmed?
Hi yokonunz. Perfect trim is a rarity. Just checked the last 6 maidens and all required immediate trimming, some had to be landed to move the pushrods.
@@AndrewNewton yeah, but then more or less trimmed. Mine always go badly nose down / left/ right on each maiden

How much dose set up cost except fpv receiver equipment and radio&battery?

Mini talon docile enough for beginners? I like the pusher setup. Seems good to to teach my younger brothers to fly. Thoughts?
