I am 5 foot 8 inches tall so std lie does favor the left though I hit it straight. Point is don’t be afraid to try extreme settings then narrow it down to what works rather than what you think works.

That was my thought as well. A bit like my mid-handicapper friend who insists on always chipping from the fringe no matter how close he is to the green. Because that's what the pros do, that's what looks good to your mates. So since pros have lower lofted drivers, the lower the setting the better it looks. I think this is something that curses many amateur golfers, especially mid-handicappers. As for myself, I'm guilty of "going for it" when an approach shot is clearly beyond my realistic distance instead of laying up.

The head is good (STX230), but what he did was up loft to 10.5, and a butt firm tip soft regular shaft. I'd not been using anything but stiff for 30 years (age 57 now) Results were launch window was higher, which to me seemed too high, but no. Spin good. Carry was 6-8 yards carry more and some are double that.

I lofted up my 10.5 driver a degree , which has helped with launch --- but the one thing where it hurt me that when I was playing a slice wind-- the ball occasionally will go further right than my standard loft would in the same wind; even though at address, the face is more closed when I loft up. Not sure why (I don't hit moon balls which would be affected by the wind that much). .

    • @seanbaines
      @seanbaines Месяц назад

@@petegalindez9961 And I think you are missing mine, so I'm probably not explaining myself well. Let me try again.
I'm talking theory. I'm talking about the theoretical effect of loft isolated from all other circumstances that might affect spin. That's what I mean by all other things being equal. An AoA optimized for a 10 degree driver used by someone using a 9 degree driver is an unusual change from normal circumstance. That is not all other things being equal.
Now, if memory serves, back when I was involved in fitting, situations where spin went down with increased loft were fairly unusual. But yes, they do occur. So when fitting, you do have to check the spin to catch the all other things not being equal parts. There's more going on that just loft, of course. But when discussing theory, it is absolutely true that, isolated from other factors, loft adds spin. That was my point. Apologies if I didn't explain it well enough at first.

Related to this, may I ask you, I'm waiting for the delivery of a brand new Ping G430 max 10k, 10,5° native, alta CB Regular, which I've thought to set at +1° (11,5°) and flat setting. Do you think that loft adjustment may neutralize the other (flat lie) in terms of left/right bias, so the final result would be similar to a square face impact?
(I'm 65 years old, swing speed about 82 mph, total distance on a good shot with my current gamer (G425, 10,5; flat; draw setting) is about 220 yards).
I was fitted with the 10k (10.5; alta CB reg) in trackman in standard setting and was consistently overperforming my G425. I also tried the alta CB Soft Regular but it "tasted" less powerful to me.
Thanks a lot, congrats for this nice baby !

A better test would be to take five shots with each setting and then do a second rotation of five additional shots with each setting, taking the five best drives out of the ten total shots hit at each setting. That way, you minimize any impact from Josh being more warmed up and hitting better for the later tested settings.
One other issue is fairway conditions. I question whether launch monitors get those distances correct when dealing with especially soft and wet, or especially dry and firm conditions. I have seen quite decent but high drives bounce only 10 feet or so after hitting a soft, wet fairway and have seen lower drives get 50 or more yards of roll on a dried out fairway.

Not correct. When you deloft the hosel setting it tilts the head open slightly, but when you (correctly) aim clubface
at the target the face will be correct to the lower loft setting. The opposite happens when you increase loft on the hosel.

    • @Power5

Adding loft closes the face for more draw. removing loft opens face for more fade. Upright settings will tilt toe up so the loft is angled more toward a draw as well. If you have a fade or slice as your main misses, then yes, should get a lower lofted club and then add loft till you get to your optimum outcomes.

My son has 120+ swing speed and he uses a Nike SQ 13 degree driver with senior flex shaft> he hits it 300 - 350 yards. The guys we play with cannot believe when he tells them what his driver specs are. He has tried my Ping G20 drivers at 9 and 10.5 and he loses distance. I let him swing a G25 10.5 driver lofted up to 11.5 and he was carrying 300 yards. At the standard 10.5 setting he carried 275. I get my max carry distance with 10.5 and 4-5 degrees upward angle of attack @ 105 mph swing speed, 16 degree launch angle. I haven't come across anyone who gets max distance with less than 10 degrees loft. Many of the pros are now playing 10.3 - 11 degree loft setting on their drivers.

I am agree with VAN , that there are a lot of
    Conflicting advise ,,
Eg , on how to hold the
Golf club in your hand , , milions different opinions , that , you wonder
    Which one is correct .
    Still ,thousands , ( of
    Those ,they call them
Selves pro ) put a video in you tube , and swear to the God that
This is the ultimate golf grip . That is load
    Of crap . That's, why
I do not listen to these
Fake experts and I go with my gut . Find out by your self , they are talking crap to sell
    Some thing to you .

    Alex I must be dyslexic
    I couldn't hit a fairway at 10.5
Lowered it to 8.5 and am way more accurate
    How does that work 😂

Or, it gets it on the ground sooner so it doesn't have as much time to get off line.

I hit the ball pretty well .. most drives are between 280-300 and I hit a 11.5 driver .. when I try to lower the head I can’t hit the ball .. so I just keep it turned up .. I know its high lofted (swing speed is 110 ish ) but it just works for me
