Hello SueSue and The Wolfman ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. A bigger screen of the performance would be nice and not talking virtually over the whole thing. Possibly either reacting at the end after it's finished or maybe pausing occasionally and winding back maybe 10 seconds each time before continuing. This is what we are used to from reactors. I'm probably older than you guys and even I could remember what I wanted to comment on at the end of the song. LOL Oh and we get used to the Amy Lee comparison for at least a third of the song especially from people in the States who only get to hear what's on commercial radio. There are several really good female fronted bands out there around the World.. It's just that Nightwish with Floor Jansen are at least one of the best.

There is also large following specifically of Floor as she has her own RUclips channel with chats, covers and vocal coaching. Her recent concert in Amsterdam is excellent with songs throughout her 25 year musical history so far. The video was paid for by crowd funding the fans and it's being released one track at a time. Worth a listen.

Tx for mentioning the incessant talking by mr. Wolfman, Clive Matthews, that was not what I'd like to see in a reaction video about music either. Hard to talk and listen with intent at the same time! Sue and Wolfman, I agree about pausing to react, plus maybe summarize first impressions at the end, they are precious, you only get to do that once ever for any new song. Beautiful reaction, Wacken is a festival in Germany, by this concert were 82.000 people. Nightwish is my favorite band and Floor is the best metal femal singer in the world.This band has two excellent sigers Marco and Floor that are two old souls with there voices together. enjoy them, like i do.
Nice start for your channel. Best song to start with. Couple of suggestions: Your inset is very small. Maybe move it to the top and make it larger. Pause more often for your comments. You made many comments while the song was playing and I could not make out most of it. I’d like to hear you. When you do pause, backup a few seconds so as not to interrupt the flow. The quality of the music sounded great. If you want to enjoy it more, I suggest wearing headsets. Looking forward to more Nightwish. My favorite band with Floor as my favorite singer. 😄🤘

Last year my youngest son (34) told me I should try this group since I enjoyed Evanescence, I was simply amazed at what I was both seeing and hearing. How is it possible this group had been around 20+ years and I never heard of them??? I'm 63 and I will be attending one of their shows when they come around. This entire concert from start to finish was spectacular.

I’m about your age as well and I remember the great bands of the 70s Judas Priest rush Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd etc. and when I finally heard of this band from my friend and reacted to it I was amazed that I never heard them and also how much this music speaks to me. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on her. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Ann Wilson was my favorite female singer for 40+ years, then I heard Floor. I first learned of NW while their 2nd singer Anette was on lead. A youtube suggestion took me to After Forever 'Energize me' with Floor in lead. I took one listen and said, 'That kid has the goods!'. When Floor took over vocals for NW, I was delighted, but it took her performance on the Beste Zangers television show doing Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort to put me over the edge. Hello beautiful couple. This is one of my Nightwish favourites but not the best. Actually it is very hard to say what is their best song. All I can say that listening to Nightwish songs you say each time this is my favourite. Nightwish is a great symphonic metal band from Finland. You will learn Tuomas (keyboards) how genious this gentleman is. He's one of the founders of Nightwish and does almost all the song writings and composing. He's called the Metal Mozart. And for the reason. His music, story, lyrics are unique. This band and Tuomas' music cured me of almost depression. He and his Nightwish music heals hearts. That is my honest opinion and many people in live and in web have told the same. Please enjoy Nightwish music. Your journey is just beginning.

Hi Sue and Wolfman. Good music is good music. Age is absolutely irrelevant. And you've managed to find something totally fantabulous and extraordinary. Arguably one of the best compositions, from one of the very best bands of the genre (symphonic metal), sung by one of the best female vocalists of the last few decades. I urge you to fully explore their massive catalogue of songs. The only trouble is that once you venture into the Nightwish labyrinth, you might have trouble finding your way back out! (But it is a pretty fantastic place to be lost within). Incidentally, if you want to hear another remarkable vocalist, then I recommend you listen and react to Lara Fabian "Je Suis Malade" from her "Lara with Love" concert. (You'll need the version with English subtitles)....
Thanks Vic! I had honestly started to give up on music here in the states a number of years ago. And I know a lot of it has to do with my age but I was looking for something it was more cohesive and coherent and musical. This band fits all those things and greatly reminds me of the bands we left in the 70s. Thanks for tagging along
@@jeffhoffman8370 - I can relate to that. I was born in the 60s and my favourite bands are/were Led Zep, Santana, Black Sabbath and Zappa! And Led Zep have always been at the top of the tree for me as they consistently produced great songs and were able to make them even better when playing them live. And then Nightwish came along. And they pretty much do the same thing. I'm just sad that I only 'discovered them last fall, September time. I did not even know the Symphonic Metal genre existed! I know you are probably getting bombarded with suggestions about what to hear next from Nightwish. So here's my 2 cents. I've selected three different songs, to showcase the wonderful talents of the three different lead vocalists that Nightwish have had over the years. #1 -Their cover of The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE), recorded during their "End of an Era" tour). This one is with Tarja, the original singer. She was great! I love her! #2 "Scaretale" (OFFICIAL LIVE) is a great song that showcases Annette's ability perfectly. This song highlights her storytelling skills perfectly. A really enjoyable performance.... #3 Their 21 minute performance of "The Greatest Show on Earth" (with Richard Dawkins) (OFFICIAL LIVE), recorded live at Wembley UK is truly epic. This is with Floor singing again. And she is amazing. And while I'm here. I recommend you also have a peek-a-boo at another symphonic metal band. The wonderful "Epica". I was surprised the audio quality was very good since you are not wearing headphones. But judging by the instruments in the background you seem to have a good music installation. Liked the dog walking in and out. Just some positive criticism. The actual video is very small so it's hard to see the crowd and interactions of what's going on there and the dude has to talk less and listen more. I gave it a like and subscribed anyway.

I'm glad I came to your channel after this reaction. I think you have learned not to talk throughout and keep wandering off to mobile phones or whatever you were doing, missing a good deal of the nuance. Nightwish deserves attention as I think you have discovered, so welcome to the magic of Nightwish .
Some (well-meant) criticism from my 'experience' here. 1. Please try to lower the amount of chattering during the video. Nowhere in this video did the actual SONG get to run for even half a minute without the two of you talking. And this chatting sometimes went on for almost a whole section of the song. Not saying to "shut up and enjoy" But this was waaay too much talking over the song you're "reacting" to. 2. Do please try to make the video you react to atleast a little bit bigger on the screen. Especially for those that might never heard of the song/band you react to. You dont want them to fish out their magnifying glass to see what it is You're watching ;) 3. You guys seem honest and interested in what you're reacting to, so that is ofcourse a big plus. 4. Sort of in the same spirit as #1 , but the positive side is,... Thank you for not pausing every 20 second to comment. effing loathe 'reactors' that pause 2-3 times per minute just to comment on something. Some reactors simply want to "show off" their "knowledge/skills" and/or are deeply in love with their own voice. True reactions 1. watch without too many pause/interruptions. 2. Finish the song and THEN comment on it. In life, you only get ONE attempt at your "first (of whatever)". Sadly many reactors ruins their only chance of a first true impression of a song because they chop the song up in pieces with constant bombarding of the pause-button. In short, very glad to see you didnt go that route and hammered the pausebutton. Final words; again, NOT meant to sound like a d-ck (at all) here. Just voicing MY personal opinion of this reaction. Overall, I think this was one of the better reactions I've watched in a few months, to be honest. Just try to crank down the amount of chatter, just a little bit.

Wacken Open Air is a venue and home to one of the largest hard rock/heavy metal festivals in the world. welcome to the fantastic symphonic metal universe of Nightwish Band, their live performances are some of the things that come so close to epic that they get to be mythical and of course Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants (WARNING! her voice, her stage presence, her charisma, in one word: her "spell" is highly addictive). this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream" this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

My two cents are that the talking while listening I think dilutes the listening part, but I appreciated the banter the two of you had; and the volume of your voices wasn't loud enough to drown out the music, but I also couldn't hear what you were saying. Also, we consumers of reactions are used to certain things for the most part, but it does not mean our way is the only way, you do you and enjoy i5t.

I believe my wife said he was on the mask singer in the US. I hate that show but I would watch it just to see him sing a song and then take the mask off and surprise everybody. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. A bigger screen of the performance would be nice and not talking virtually over the whole thing. Possibly either reacting at the end after it's finished or maybe pausing occasionally and winding back maybe 10 seconds each time before continuing. This is what we are used to from reactors. I'm probably older than you guys and even I could remember what I wanted to comment on at the end of the song. LOL Oh and we get used to the Amy Lee comparison for at least a third of the song especially from people in the States who only get to hear what's on commercial radio. There are several really good female fronted bands out there around the World.. It's just that Nightwish with Floor Jansen are at least one of the best.

There is also large following specifically of Floor as she has her own RUclips channel with chats, covers and vocal coaching. Her recent concert in Amsterdam is excellent with songs throughout her 25 year musical history so far. The video was paid for by crowd funding the fans and it's being released one track at a time. Worth a listen.

Tx for mentioning the incessant talking by mr. Wolfman, Clive Matthews, that was not what I'd like to see in a reaction video about music either. Hard to talk and listen with intent at the same time! Sue and Wolfman, I agree about pausing to react, plus maybe summarize first impressions at the end, they are precious, you only get to do that once ever for any new song. Beautiful reaction, Wacken is a festival in Germany, by this concert were 82.000 people. Nightwish is my favorite band and Floor is the best metal femal singer in the world.This band has two excellent sigers Marco and Floor that are two old souls with there voices together. enjoy them, like i do.

Nice start for your channel. Best song to start with. Couple of suggestions: Your inset is very small. Maybe move it to the top and make it larger. Pause more often for your comments. You made many comments while the song was playing and I could not make out most of it. I’d like to hear you. When you do pause, backup a few seconds so as not to interrupt the flow. The quality of the music sounded great. If you want to enjoy it more, I suggest wearing headsets. Looking forward to more Nightwish. My favorite band with Floor as my favorite singer. 😄🤘

Found Nightwish in the late 2000's then rediscovered them with Wacken. What a voice, took the band to another level, she has no equal.
Last year my youngest son (34) told me I should try this group since I enjoyed Evanescence, I was simply amazed at what I was both seeing and hearing. How is it possible this group had been around 20+ years and I never heard of them??? I'm 63 and I will be attending one of their shows when they come around. This entire concert from start to finish was spectacular.

I’m about your age as well and I remember the great bands of the 70s Judas Priest rush Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd etc. and when I finally heard of this band from my friend and reacted to it I was amazed that I never heard them and also how much this music speaks to me. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Ann Wilson was my favorite female singer for 40+ years, then I heard Floor. I first learned of NW while their 2nd singer Anette was on lead. A youtube suggestion took me to After Forever 'Energize me' with Floor in lead. I took one listen and said, 'That kid has the goods!'. When Floor took over vocals for NW, I was delighted, but it took her performance on the Beste Zangers television show doing Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort to put me over the edge. Hello beautiful couple. This is one of my Nightwish favourites but not the best. Actually it is very hard to say what is their best song. All I can say that listening to Nightwish songs you say each time this is my favourite. Nightwish is a great symphonic metal band from Finland. You will learn Tuomas (keyboards) how genious this gentleman is. He's one of the founders of Nightwish and does almost all the song writings and composing. He's called the Metal Mozart. And for the reason. His music, story, lyrics are unique. This band and Tuomas' music cured me of almost depression. He and his Nightwish music heals hearts. That is my honest opinion and many people in live and in web have told the same. Please enjoy Nightwish music. Your journey is just beginning.

Hi Sue and Wolfman. Good music is good music. Age is absolutely irrelevant. And you've managed to find something totally fantabulous and extraordinary. Arguably one of the best compositions, from one of the very best bands of the genre (symphonic metal), sung by one of the best female vocalists of the last few decades. I urge you to fully explore their massive catalogue of songs. The only trouble is that once you venture into the Nightwish labyrinth, you might have trouble finding your way back out! (But it is a pretty fantastic place to be lost within).
Incidentally, if you want to hear another remarkable vocalist, then I recommend you listen and react to Lara Fabian "Je Suis Malade" from her "Lara with Love" concert. (You'll need the version with English subtitles)....

I had honestly started to give up on music here in the states a number of years ago. And I know a lot of it has to do with my age but I was looking for something it was more cohesive and coherent and musical. This band fits all those things and greatly reminds me of the bands we left in the 70s. Thanks for tagging along
@@jeffhoffman8370 - I can relate to that. I was born in the 60s and my favourite bands are/were Led Zep, Santana, Black Sabbath and Zappa! And Led Zep have always been at the top of the tree for me as they consistently produced great songs and were able to make them even better when playing them live. And then Nightwish came along. And they pretty much do the same thing. I'm just sad that I only 'discovered them last fall, September time. I did not even know the Symphonic Metal genre existed!
I know you are probably getting bombarded with suggestions about what to hear next from Nightwish. So here's my 2 cents. I've selected three different songs, to showcase the wonderful talents of the three different lead vocalists that Nightwish have had over the years.
#1 -Their cover of The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE), recorded during their "End of an Era" tour). This one is with Tarja, the original singer. She was great! I love her!
#2 "Scaretale" (OFFICIAL LIVE) is a great song that showcases Annette's ability perfectly. This song highlights her storytelling skills perfectly. A really enjoyable performance....
#3 Their 21 minute performance of "The Greatest Show on Earth" (with Richard Dawkins) (OFFICIAL LIVE), recorded live at Wembley UK is truly epic. This is with Floor singing again. And she is amazing.
And while I'm here. I recommend you also have a peek-a-boo at another symphonic metal band. The wonderful "Epica". I think a really great track and interesting live performance to watch first would be: Unleashed (OFFICIAL LIVE)

I was surprised the audio quality was very good since you are not wearing headphones. But judging by the instruments in the background you seem to have a good music installation. Liked the dog walking in and out. Just some positive criticism. The actual video is very small so it's hard to see the crowd and interactions of what's going on there and the dude has to talk less and listen more. I gave it a like and subscribed anyway.

Some (well-meant) criticism from my 'experience' here.
1. Please try to lower the amount of chattering during the video. Nowhere in this video did the actual SONG get to run for even half a minute without the two of you talking. And this chatting sometimes went on for almost a whole section of the song. Not saying to "shut up and enjoy" But this was waaay too much talking over the song you're "reacting" to.
2. Do please try to make the video you react to atleast a little bit bigger on the screen. Especially for those that might never heard of the song/band you react to. You dont want them to fish out their magnifying glass to see what it is You're watching ;)
3. You guys seem honest and interested in what you're reacting to, so that is ofcourse a big plus.
4. Sort of in the same spirit as #1 , but the positive side is,... Thank you for not pausing every 20 second to comment. effing loathe 'reactors' that pause 2-3 times per minute just to comment on something. Some reactors simply want to "show off" their "knowledge/skills" and/or are deeply in love with their own voice. True reactions 1. watch without too many pause/interruptions. 2. Finish the song and THEN comment on it. In life, you only get ONE attempt at your "first (of whatever)". Sadly many reactors ruins their only chance of a first true impression of a song because they chop the song up in pieces with constant bombarding of the pause-button. In short, very glad to see you didnt go that route and hammered the pausebutton.
Final words; again, NOT meant to sound like a d-ck (at all) here. Just voicing MY personal opinion of this reaction. Overall, I think this was one of the better reactions I've watched in a few months, to be honest. Just try to crank down the amount of chatter, just a little bit.

this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

Wow, that was a reaction for sure. What, I hardly have a clue. Except, the pause where Wolf talks about something totally unrelated to the performance, Wolf being distracted with something humorous totally unrelated to the performance and the last belt by Floor. Everything else that was discussed was drowned out by the music 🎶. The mystery reaction.

My two cents are that the talking while listening I think dilutes the listening part, but I appreciated the banter the two of you had; and the volume of your voices wasn't loud enough to drown out the music, but I also couldn't hear what you were saying. Also, we consumers of reactions are used to certain things for the most part, but it does not mean our way is the only way, you do you and enjoy i5t.

Yes we gave the bass player sing now and he’s amazing, it doesn’t look like he could sing like that. I believe my wife said he was on the mask singer in the US. I hate that show but I would watch it just to see him sing a song and then take the mask off and surprise everybody.
I’m a big fan of beards if you haven’t noticed! So thumbs up to him. Thank you again for your comments and please watch or other continent I think you’ll be surprised at how much better we’ve gotten in nine days :-)

Now, I know that we all welcome everyone and anyone to become a part of the Nightwish Army, you guys... But... It is just that... well, hell.. I actually feel bad for even voicing this sentiment... And yet. I just kinda do fear that these two, or at the very least, the old man... simply does not have the patience, nor the requisite attention span necessary for ever fully appreciating the vocal majesty of Floor... or even if they necessarily possess enough of an interest level for them to ever even give the group enough of an opportunity(I mean damn man, ya really do have to be willing to, and capable of, paying it your complete attention for at least the length of a single song, ya know... LoL.) to convert them into true, fanatical admirers of the experience that Nightwish offers to those possessing the desire and capacity for appreciating their absolute musical mastery.
Oh well, it doesn't mean that they can not appreciate some of it, I suppose, so what the hell... Welcome to your first Nightwish experience, you two! So just sit back and enjoy your next amazing Floorgasm... If that is, ya can still experience those at your age... What with how the elderly tend to be prone to... being hard of hearing and all, it may hinder your enjoyment somewhat... LoL. Ha! C'mon now, chill, chill.... I am ONLY kidding now you two, so let's keep that sense of humor up now, alright...
