I love these kinds of videos. As someone who love learning about fashion design but didn’t go to fashion school it’s great to find this information from knowledgeable like yourself.
Thank you soooo much for not wasting time. I have wasted so much time on youtube trying to find the perfect video with steps to production without committing to purchasing an online course to figure this out. May Allah bless you in your journey and grant you so much success as you have helped so many of us :)
I cannot stress how helpful this video was! I had so many ideas but didnt know where to start and you breaking it down into a list was what I needed! Thank you
I'm 18 and I really wanted to start my own clothing line and your video really helped and now I'm starting to work on my samples and I can't even say I'm so excited thank you for information
I really like your setup and helpful instructions. I’m a psych major but I really like sewing and clothing. I started my own brand and it’s still very small lol but I make everything myself. I kinda do stuff on the fly and seeing these two books and everything I already know I have so much to learn 😭 but seeing how to get things manufactured is very helpful for the future 🙏🏾 very nice video 👏🏾
You are so professional in your presentation and I’m sure you are as professional in your clothing design. Thank you so much for sharing all your information. I have an art degree, I have always wanted to design fashion and I’m dabbling right now. Your information is completing parts of my puzzle.Thank you!
Great Video clip! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you tried - Panaylee Renowned Prepotence (do a google search)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for finding luxury or designer goods at wholesale or lower prices without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my good mate called Gray finally got astronomical results with it.
Nice Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Panaylee Renowned Prepotence (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great exclusive product for finding luxury or designer goods at wholesale or lower prices without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend at very last got great results with it.
I'm making something a bit unconventional, however, this really helped to fill in some blanks for what else I will need to consider. Supper informative. Thank you!!!
For someone who didn't go to a good fashion school like me, This video is so helpful. I intend to go into a clothing line but I don't know how to sketch. It's a big limitation right now. Can you help with that? I also don't know the names for so many sewing techniques and tools. Maybe you could do a video on that too. Thanks Natalie. Also do a video on creating your own size chart, a more detailed one including sleeve lengths and crotch depths. Can you also suggest a fashion school? Which did you attend? Sorry for do many questions. I just need help
Hi :) Apologies for such a late response. I went to FIT in nyc! (The Fashion Institute of Technology). As for sketching I recommend using the templates by fashionary! those are very proportionate. I do have some drawing tutorials on my channel though. I also have a video on all types of sewing tools :) -Natalia
Thank you so much! I've gone through countless videos and you are the most informative and organized as you shared. I definitely appreciate the order in which you've given the information some folks are scatterbrained and confusing, with no stories of how and when and why you've gotten started before a share of two minutes of half-baked information. You were clear and to the point. Thank you for not wasting my time then add a ridiculous price for information that I could have eventually found on Google. Thank you for your time. I will buy the books and possibly that cardigan to support your friend because I actually like it.
Thanks! Great video! I want to start a clothing line but I think I’ll hire someone to do the tech pack and flats and everything but it’s still good to know what’s in there!!
Hii Natalia, Really thankful to all your videos that made me understand the aspects of fashion so easily and more to it perfectly, I just want to request to make a video for market research, If I like start the clothing line how to do the Market research to know that my product will really have a demand. Thankyou Soo much ❤️.
Im 12 and it is my DREAM to start a clothing brand/business. I’m soooo inspired by you! Do you have any tips on like how to start and the first few steps to starting a clothing brand? Thank you for making such informative videos!
Could you make a video of what job outlook/options are like after you receive a degree in fashion/apparel design w/concentration in design? I’m a 4th year apparel design major at SFSU.
😬 it was difficult to find a design job pre covid, but now with covid it’s much harder! a loottt of people in fashion (design, marketing, sales etc etc) were laid off back in March and are still unemployed/looking for work. Hopefully the job market will improve in 2021. it’s difficult to predict w the whole covid situation unfortunately 🙁
Thank you so much for your help. I am looking at the list to you provided with the cfda and I cannot find the full package including sketching. I'm probably overlooking it. My daughter wants to get some dresses made and I thought it would be a great bonding experience for us 💜
what do you think is easier, making the clothing yourself or using a manufacturer? I am looking to drop a little "mock" clothing line in the summer for swimwear, just so I can see how production goes when it comes to having a clothing line ( also to save up for fashion school if I get into FIT ) but I'm not sure if I should spend my money on a manufacturer or just make the bikinis myself since im only making bathing suits. Anything cheaper and easier will help me for this "Mock" clothing line. Thank you : )
Super helpful video, thank you for sharing! I'm not sure if you'll see this, but I'd love to know if there is anything I can do as an indie designer to help with costs? I.e, if I make my tech packs and patterns myself, can I send them to the manufacturer for a sample, or do they need to be in on the whole process? Also, how does fabric sourcing work to make sure it's available for the entire production?
This video is so awesome and amazing I want to thank you so much for your information, it was direct and to the point and too helpful. Thank you for your insight
For my collection along with other pieces I'm making 4-5 knitwear peace's how should I go about making the initial sample? Or should I get the sample made from the factory?
For starters, I’m a fan of your channel so what I’m saying is just constructive criticism and no hate. But I believe #1 should be to get inspired from something in the world whether it be an inspiration from the real world or something made up in your mind. You won’t be able to create tech paks or flats if you don’t have an original idea to start off with. From there everything else is great information for beginners.
yes, definitely the first step is design (I have a video on how to design a collection - finding inspiration, reference photos, figuring out your target customer, doing the thumbnail sketches etc!). I agree, I should have mentioned that in the beginning😅 - these are the steps that come right after that!
Do you have any experience with overseas manufacturers? I’m trying to find Italian manufacturers but it’s difficult 😔 great video btw you provide knowledge
on google look up “clothing manufacturer in [insert country here]”. Check to see if the factory meets your needs, then email potential companies you would like to work with. That’s how I found someone to work with! :) Try looking through instagram with hashtags like #smallbatchmanufacturing, #lowmoq if you’re looking to start out with only a few pieces. It’s not an instant process so you will have to dig! good luck!
Hi Natalia! Love your videos a lot. I'm doing the 1-year Fashion Design AAS at FIT right now and am very conflicted about whether to specialize in sportswear or to go into technical design. Do you have any regrets or advice about the sportswear program?
thank you! I loved the sportswear program, I have no regrets! In technical design there aren’t any fashion art classes so that major wouldn’t have been the best fit for me personally. I’ve always been way more passionate about fashion art/drawing/painting over patternmaking Technical designers are always in demand though! choose the one you resonate more with
If you speak another language/have family/friends in another country that know the area of where you want to manufacture, it definitely helps! I’m in the process of looking overseas myself. I would do google searches in the language of the country you want to produce in and check to see what their minimum order quantity is, email them with your front and back flats (at the very least)and ask for a quote
Im going to build the biggest and best clothing line soon wish me luck
Me too! you are going to be amazing!
You will
