I will warn you about PVS7s or my 10Ts your visions is kinda funky under them compared to duals or a mono but it’s not super hard to get used too also aiming through a optic is super hard.

    Wanted to say great first vid. Love the live fire sections too.
    That said, analog NVG doesn't start at 5K. I know you were eyeballing some crazy L3 unfilm units but most PVS-14s float low 2s. Is $2000 more expensive than this thing? Absolutely, but after you bino these you're in $1200 plus your custom bridge and mounts. (You're also making your battery problem worse. Vs 50 hours on a lithium AA with a PVS-14.) You're a stone's toss from some really amazing Gen 3 NV. I've seen those Unity risers on your blasters; you can def get Gen 3 if you really wanted to. Just my honest thoughts. I had friends who bought Sionyx Auroras and returned them the moment they looked through even my rattiest NVGs.

    • @bargainbintactician
      @bargainbintactician  Год назад +1

      Thank brother! Really appreciate that!
      Totally get where youre coming from here too. But the thing is, here youre comparing a dual wraith set up to a monocular analog set up price wise, so yeah its a little closer. but also, since were going with legit analog I'm assuming youre not gonna buy an airsoft helmet, and a airsoft rhino mount. Youll likely go with a team wendy, or opscore bump helmet or maybe even a rad ACH thats got some ballistic protection for 200+, then youll need the real rhino mount since were going legit, so thats another couple hundred, and then youll need a J arm to mount the thing to the rhino. so youre 2k entry starts to become closer to 3k and thats for a monolucar set up. so if we compare that to the wraith monocular set up to THAT, even INCLUDING helmet, mount, 3 rechargeable USB battery banks that last for about a week each, and the monocular itself, im still sitting at 800 instead. So yeah its still the cheaper option if youre comparing set ups 1/1. But I'm not saying the EXPERIENCE is going to compare 1/1 to an analog set up AT ALL either lol dont get me wrong. And if sightmark hadnt hooked me up with the initial Wraith, I likely would have gone straight to analog. But since they did, I figured it was worth the investment to see how they would perform as a dual set up. I'm honestly really interested in getting a PVS7 lmao the clunkiest of analog set ups, but its such a vibe. The wraiths certainly wont be the end of the NVG journey haha Thanks for the thoughts man, I love talking shop so I appreciated you taking the time!

    • @homie8437
      @homie8437 Год назад

      @@bargainbintactician I am comparing a bino Wraith to a mono 14 because I'm of the opinion it's a better setup yeah. I run some personal units as rentals with PTS MTEK Flux helmets ($125) Norotos Rhino IIs ($60) and USGI J-Arms ($20). It's still $180, but works fine; you stand to benefit very little from a $600 carbon helmet or $450 Wilcox mount on a PVS-14 setup. At $2200-2500, I do personally think the PVS-14 is more than twice as effective as the $1200 dual Wraith setup. The reason I say that is NVGs are cool to do night blasting but ultimately their biggest strength is being able to move and navigate without being easily observed by a person. As navigational tools, the Aurora, Wraith, and Gen 1 type systems really aren't that great, and they typically need supplemental IR that is a dead giveaway to not only nods but basic digital cameras or doorbell cams.
      Just for context, you take that dual Wraith setup (you got a freebie in this case), add your Vortex UH-1 and Unity riser and you're in Gen 3 territory. Might seem like a cool way to spend $1200, but once you look through a Gen 3 device you might feel buyer's remorse pretty hard.
      As far as PVS-7s go, they are neat, but I would save a little more and push to a PVS-14 that isn't AGM/ATN/Trybe/Wolf or one of the other knockoff brands. You'll find that most NVGs standardize on PVS-14 components (RNVG, DTNVG, Mod 3, Katana, LLUL, QTNVG, BNVD-1431, etc.) while PVS-7s have delicate mirrors and proprietary electronics and intensifier tubes.
      Best of luck with your NVG stuff though, just be judicious about what you're blowing money on.

    I was blessed to have a friend find me a gently used blemless Elbit Gen 3 thin filmed green phos PVS-14 for $1950 shipped. Low Light Innovations makes a terrific "white" filter that essentially mimics white phos in appearance with limited light transmission loss for only $25. To save money on the mount, he suggested an "Evolution Gear L4G24 NVG Mount Perfect Replica" for only $85 shipped instead of the $465 for the real one, and the quality is phenomenal. I also picked up a used Wilcox AN/PVS-14 Arm for $150 shipped down from the original $229 price. Botach has a Longfri Level IIIA ballistic helmet for only $199 that is around 3 pounds, good quality for the price and there are lots of ballistic test on them.

    Great content and information brother. These are extremely compelling for the price and performance. From my experience running pvs 14s in the marine corps, we ran our monoculars on our non dominant eye. So in the even of a flare you don't blind the eye you mainly shoot with and can still engage in the bightness that may have just occured with your weapon. Since you're gonna go with a binocular set up this won't really matter, but for anyone running monocular nods it's useful to know. We got very comfortable working at night with them, to the point where even if i had the money for dual tubes I'd probably still go with one. It's nice to easily transition to just using your eyes or for other tasks where you gotta change focus for something close. Looking forward to more of your videos! Immediate subscriber right here!

Espeically how you mentioned. After trying both eyes with the wraith for a few nights I landed on non-dominate as well. It become pretty second nature going between light/dark areas that way. and another perk of the wraith being digital in that scenario is you dont risk burning out your tubes haha Thanks for watching and leaving such a detailed comment homie! Sorry it took me a couple days to get back to ya, my spacebar stopped working on my keyboard, probably too much raging on COD haha! But to your point, thats continued to be my experience really brother! Obviously my shooting is restricted to civi stuff on the range, or out in the woods shooting at paper alone haha But anytime other dudes are around rocking night vision, I see them using IR all night too. If the FOV on the wraiths was as wide as the PVS14 there would literally be no contest considering price points of both units. And the longer I spend with the wraiths the less I even notice the tight FOV. I mean, like the pros say, training is everything. So whatever you get, spend time with it and youll be more prepared than the dude with a million bucks in gear that never practices anyway! Thanks again for the kind words my dude, appreciate you!

      on 30fps, its too gooey to be used for force on force or tracking a moving target in my opinion, but with the unit set to 60fps and the exposure time to short there is virtually no latency. I'm sure there is some level of milliseconds of delay involved, but as far as practical use, it feels instant. If youve played a PC first person shooter with a rig that can keep it at 60fps constant itll feel familar.

    I have had two first gen analog tubes for quite a while, but I bought the Sight Mark Wraith HD 4-32X50 and I prefer the Wraith over the analogs any day/night! And it is the fact I don't have to worry about tube burnout if someone starts a strobe or high wattage lamps in the area, but the main reason, is the fact I don't have to swap anything to shoot in bright daylight or moonless overcast night. ANd the so called 200 yard range with the IR emitter is actually much farther!

    • @bargainbintactician

So youre looking at 6-10 hours of run time from each battery pack I'd say.

    • @bargainbintactician
      @bargainbintactician  Год назад

      I've gotten a few questions about this and honestly it must be a bigger problem with other digital units because I havent noticed any latency to speak of. Being a video guy, I immediately went and played around with the advanced settings and set the wraith to be 60fps, with a short exposure time and its snappy. It comes default at 30fps and It does feel a little gooey there, but no frame stuttering or latency to speak of. I can jog/run with the unit on, and pop up to a target no problem. No rendering delay or whatever. it feels like playing a pc game at 60fps. Just nice and smooth. In the follow up video Ill be sure to include more quick movements and such to show it off a bit. Just a cheap USB on-the-go battery thing with a usb out on it. I run a usb cable through my helmet, and plug the batter into the bridge mount, and then slide the Wraith onto the mount, and that USB batter pack can keep it charged for a week or two easy! Now that Im running duals on a third party mount instead of the sightmark one, I have to run a battery pack for each wraith, where as I could have powered them both from a single usb batter pack before iswapped over. Im just playing with a new mount and I like messing with stuff all the time haha
