    The reason the Amazon helmet covers and counterweights are so cheap compared to the TNVC version is they're not NIR compliant. They light up like a lightbulb under any IR light

    • @wongkeebs4327
      @wongkeebs4327 Год назад +1

      Would you mind explaining why this is important? Why does NIR matter for the civilian and does this mean it glows passively or when illuminated by a laser?

      @@wongkeebs4327 NIR compliance isn't really a real thing, it's a marketing hype. Basically if a manufacturer uses knockoff cordura fabric then under night vision it will be a different shade than normal. They don't actually glow like people claim, it just means there is a disparity between visible and IR camouflage (think like a change in tint). So NIR compliant fabrics have a coat applied to change the tint. No one in the military really worries about NIR compliance, if you are going to be detected at night it is going to be by sound or your thermal signature.
      If you are worried though, simply look at your clothing in your night vision. Does it look acceptable? Then you are good and don't worry about it.

      @@wongkeebs4327Doesn’t really matter for a civilian. Only matters to civilians that don’t want to glow under NVGs. NIR compliant materials mask the inherent radiance of IR light they produce. But even then people that go and buy all this stuff end up throwing it in a washing machine and all the optic whiteners in the detergent make that stuff look like a light show under NVGs.

    I chose the path of outfitting two people with a complete single tube setup over duals. That being said (and when it’s just me stomping through the woods and stargazing) sometimes I will put both 14’s on a pano bridge and increase the field of view to 75 degrees (more like 70 useable).

    a full cut helmet with TCAPs is better. yes it's not the cool guy thing, but it's more practical. better ballistic coverage, bone conducting mic, no earcups squeezing your head or breaking their seal, and you can still use your earpro without a helmet on. also they run on a single AA

    If people want to get into night vision and are dead set on Gen 3, got Omni 7 or Omni 8 Tubes. You reallyyyyy can get them at crazy prices. I just replaced the Photonis tube in my Tanto PVs-14 for 1100. I feel bad for guys who have chased the crazy spec sheets to notice my 1100 Omni 8 tube didnt preform much difference than some people whove paid over 3k+ for their PVS=14. Yes, theyre green and we all know white is the new hotness....but like you said with the filters, it makes it SOOOO much easier on the eyes. It cuts light output a bit, but maybe 15-20%. If its too dark to see, just take the filter off. Other than that - Omni 7/8 tubes are amazing and it was new to me that they dont even go for that much when you can find them

    6:19 having the device turned off won't protect it from sun/bright light damage, it may not happen as quick with the power off but it will still get damaged. The test I saw was on the dirty civillian channel, it did also show they are a little bit more robust & forgiving than some ppl give them credit for & black boxing them can help fix some blems, but definitely have your device turned off & with the cpas on during the daytime, this is too expensive of an investment to risk permanent damage

      @@Tattlebot Yeah the test I've seen have shown the tubes to be a bit more robust than ppl think they are, but they will get ruined by bright light exposure, it just depends on what type of light, how bright how close etc. as for the sun test it left a huge arcing blem across most of zone 1 & a good bit of zone 2. Though it wasn't instant it was within a very short time, likely within a few min there would of been the start of the damage, after half hour the tube would of had the start of the arc & already been unrepairable by blackboxing

    I’m not trying to be rude or be that guy or even a Karen or Kyle. But if you’re going to get a ballistic helmet then save a little bit of money ( it’s not like you are going to combat) and wear your bump cap longer. It’s lighter and it actually breathes more than a ballistic helmet unless you are going with the air frame or if you already have a ops core bump helmet they make nij lvl 3 low profile armor plates. By cutting the ACH or MICH into a high cut you’re not getting the nij lvl 3 rating any more. By cutting the ACH you’re weakening the ballistic material in the shell. Yes you could always buy a slapp plate but that’s only for the front. You don’t need to go out and spend your rent/mortgage money on a Wendy helmet, OPs core helmet or a Galvion Helmet honestly you’re paying for the name. Those big names start out around $1500 usd and run upwards of $2500 usd. There’s plenty of other legitimate companies out here that sell them all day long for $500 USD or less. There’s plenty of videos out there that prove that those helmets hold up the same and sometimes even better

    • @p51mustang24
      @p51mustang24 24 дня назад

      I think people have tested the cut ACH's and they still work. Just search it.
      But decent helmets from Armor Source and Protection Group Danmark are available around $500 +/-
