The ocular lens of the Jerry should not be used with WP. It is obviously meant for GP which has a mainly monochromatic spectrum which will avoid chromatic aberration. The WP result looks like a deal breaker.
White phosphorous is monochrome. Also, the lens has nothing to do with the color output of the image intensifier. You're staring at a sheet of phosphorous, with no practical, optical connection to the front lens. Essentially inverted shadow-puppets. The color of the wall you cast shadow-puppets on has nothing to do with chromatic aberration. If there's artifacts from the lens, it will show up long before any phosphorous picks it up and converts it to monochrome. My only experience is issued PVS-14s, so If this is a different technology, or I'm missing something, let me know. I just think you might be confused.
@@Ranstone White phosphorus would be a very bad thing to have, but it's a phosphor screen. White phosphor is not fully monochromatic. Otherwise it would always look pure blue or pure green.
@@aesthetic8780 That's incorrect. Photonis makes intensifiers to the same sizing standard as all 18mm MX-10160 that L3 and Elbit use. Any housing that "fits Photonis tubes" should also fit L3, Elbit, Katod, etc intensifiers.
@@coldharboursupply Obviously. But this is not what I meant. As I know you can only throw photonis/nnvt tubes in it. L3 dont fit without modifying the housing. L3 has different placed connectors on their tubes!

I think getting a nice modular monocular thats Gen 3 and filmless would be better. And also that way down the line if you want binos you can just purchase another of that tube with similar specs and bridge them and get them culminated. But at the same time the Jerry 31's can be purchased as well as a C5 Clip On Thermal Imager for about $8k. That's very cheap for duals that have a thermal overlay, only catch is the tubes are 90's tech and lack anywhere from 500-800 FOM compared to Gen 3. That's also not even considering the increased clarity with Gen 3.

wau thx a lot for this content. Very informative and not only regarding Jerry 31 Binoculars but also about tubes and their features. Auto-gate vs BSP is kind of info you can't get anywhere else. If I got it right, BSP helps to protect tubes in a different way than auto-gating with impact on resolution. Is there any advantage compare to auto-gating ?
BSP lowers the voltage of the Photocathode, whereas Autogating pulses the power supply. In a very layman's terms, autogating preserves more resolution than BSP and is used on a lot of modern nods. All modern tubes will have BSP, not all will have autogating, Photonis tubes and NNVTs-AG will have both AG and BSP whereas the NNVTs that are not autogated will have BSP. The autogated tubes will use a combo of BSP and Autogating to protect the tube versus only BSP for the NNVT-4s. BSP alone protects the tube plenty with a higher impact to resolution than the BSP/AG combos of the other 2 types of tube. The main disadvantage to BSP is the dropping of resolution. However, in some cases this is less visually distracting because the tube does not have to pulse as can been seen in our flaring test, this depends on the frequency and intensity of the lights you are exposing the tubes to. I have elbit wp xlsh tubes that are well matched, decent specs like 28 snr, 2000 fom, .9 ebi, and 1.0 halo. Being that they are pretty high specs for xlsh tubes, they each have 2-3 small blems. Likely the reason they got knocked down to xlsh’s. Even with decent specs, I feel like they leave some performance to be desired. I’ve used them in the darkest of nights in thick woods and even been in a subterranean environment where pretty much all types of I2 nvgs will struggle or just be ineffective to the point you need to either use your peq the entire time, or switch to thermal. I’ve got about 8 ish years experience using different types of monoculars, Binos, and thermals. I think the specs of these jerry 31s will leave a lot to be desired for people who intend to use their NVGs professionally. You usually don’t have the luxury of utilizing a supplementary light source. With the low specs, and lack of auto-gating, poor lowlight performance I think they are not a good choice for the population of people who are looking for binos for professional or duty use. Obviously you have to find a good balance of cost and performance that will suit your needs. I definitely see a ton of applications where users of these binos will be more than satisfied with the performance and their ownership experience will be superb. It’s still very exciting that companies are making nvgs more and more affordable, particularly WP, articulating duals because that’s what all the cool kids want. Thank you for the great comparison video and all the information!
