    Based on some comment feedback, it sounds like CH is looking to manufacture some additional, and needed accessories, like sacrificial lenses etc., which would be amazing, or even the ability to update tubes, as the housing and features are legit as a base to build on. Appears to be a great entry into the NV world.

    Looking at this I'm very happy that I chose a milspec 14 with an echo. It's just so good! Wouldn't mind a jerry-31 as a high light bino system, ill just use the 14 as a lower light system.

      Your ECHO+/4G is way better now. But the Jerry is definitely a good unit for the money. But if you have the budget, definitely go for the 14 with ECHO/4G tubes..
      What is your FOM? 2300 right? That's way better than 1300 FOM with technology from 1996 (XD-4/NVT-4)

    Great vid! So how would the Jerry 31's/14's compare to lowest performing PVS-14's or other lower end mono/binos? I think that would make for a great comparison video seeing as how someone shopping at this price point would be looking for the best performance he can get at this price point. What does the mfL compare to in terms of light available to the device in a real world scenario? Would 1.00mfL be equivalent to a full moon, and 0.01 be pitch black to the naked eye/ no moon + clouds?

    • @coldharboursupply
      @coldharboursupply  7 месяцев назад +3

      @@d4ngru5h83 It doesn't really equate very well because foot-Lamberts is a measurement of the brightness of a surface per square metre. But, as a frame of reference, a movie screen in a dark movie theatre typically outputs about 16 foot Lamberts, so 1mfL is actually quite a bit darker than that by about 5 orders of magnitude.

      @@d4ngru5h83 if you every want to go gen 2/3, I highly advice to buy a pvs-14. The mounting options are great, parts are readily available and you can use them with all sorts of tubes. Not only that, 3rd party accessories also just about always fit milspec 14's. The 14 is an all-in-one mono.

    • @coldharboursupply
      @coldharboursupply  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@d4ngru5h83 We do not really deal in Gen-1 devices but these will see much better than any Gen-1 due to Gen2 and higher tubes having actual micro channel plates which significantly boosts intensification.
      What we can say is the image will be a lot better without illumination. With illumination, even low spec Gen2s will blow gen1s out of the water. The Jerry-14 will be a substantial upgrade as its a modestly specced gen2+ tube.

    • @coldharboursupply
      @coldharboursupply  7 месяцев назад +1

      It honestly does not matter for most users. I would say look at the autogating section of the video versus just reading online. AG is great, but NNVTs do fine with their BSP. If your goal is protecting the tubes against light damage (which is the goal of most consumer users), the NNVT's BSP is more effective. If your goal is contrast and resolution then autogating will have the advantage, especially moving up to a Photonis tube.

    Pretty impressive. One thing about these products is I feel people tend to upsell themselves based on what gives the most value. Maybe the most bang for buck is a more expensive unit. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to get something slightly cheaper, more in one's price range, when a better value unit costs $500 or $1000 more. These are important factors to consider, but ultimately, you've gotta make peace with getting the best device for your budget, rather than paying more in total. The best night vison is the one you can have in your hands. Does nothing if you don't actually buy it.

      Well I'm very much the person who won't skimp on body armor but optics can be a nightmare to pick from so having a decent one that can take some rough and tumble is hard to do....
      Especially if their like 4,000 -6,000 personally I couldn't replace that kind of cost if it broke or didn't work! So I am looking for something just honestly not sure what to choose you know

      Digital uses an illuminator and to anyone else using nods you will appear highly bright and visible for 100s of yards. Analog night vision is worlds better because it doesn’t need ir light to work. Thus the cost.

    $2k+... I'll just use a strobe light (flashlight) on my integrally suppressed semi-auotomatic 12 gauge with a 25 rd drum of 00 as a countermeasure.

    Yall know yall can get real pvs 14s for the same price, and sometimes 500 dollars cheaper? I was expecting to see a sub 2k price with all this 'cheapest nvg' talk. pvs 14s go from anywhere from 2k-2700 right now.

    Lighter means more plastic. More plastic, the cheaper for manufacturer to produce and then raise price because an "improvement" has been made. Night vision has always been out of sight for the common guy to afford. When only one person in a group has it then that limits night fights as a group and can only be used for pathfinding or spotting for one guy. Hunting hogs are the only other reason to have one. Then you need to have a big appetite or barbeque per each hog. It would take you several years to get back your money's worth through hunting. Three thousand dollars is insane to spend for the device. There are all kinds of night fighting techniques that can be relied on just as concretely. I have such a device and know how to use green lasers as well, which I also have. But nothing beats doing it the old fashioned way, after all, the devices are sensitive and may not be relied on when you need it most. I would not use one without a second one on hand. I am a Nam Era homeless disabled Marine and learned a lot about night in the Corps. If you are homeless, keep your stuff stashed where you can refer to it but never be without it somewhere.
