What an incredible and so helpful video. I am a medical student from Brazil interested in training and working in the UK and you channel is definitely helping me achieve that. I wonder if you could do a Vascular Surgery training pathway video in the future as well?
Wow 🙌 thank you very much Dr Ibrahim for doing this very detailed video after you promised over a month ago. My daughter will definitely benefit a lot when she gets to listening to this. She calls me her research assistant 🤦
I am only 15 but I’ve became very interested in surgery and I have looked at nursing and being a “doctor” but I have really found interest in being a surgeon more specifically anything to do with the cardiology and orthopaedic surgery
The one thing I don’t understand, if I am overqualified to apply for core surgical training because I have been working as a surgeon outside of UK for two years, I should fill alternative certificate of surgical competency. But when I come to Uk do I have to do a CREST form or I can just start non training job and prepare for MRCS and then apply directly after MRCS for St 3 surgery training ?
Thankyou so much guys! been following you channel from early days when you guys began! very informative and helpful indeed. Can you guys make a video about IMG's who have done their house job and 4 year training GCC and now if they want to come to UK? specifically for ER. Thankyou.

Hi there , thanks for the great informations but it is still kinda fogy for me as am non uk graduated and i have accumulated more than a four years of experience as orthopedic and one year as ER and still didn't regester yet and going through the plab process, the accumulated experience you mentioned before the regesteration or after the GMC regesteration?also which route is suitable for such a case ? and what are the best way to get accepted as an ortho?
Thank you doctor, wonderful video. I have a question, when applying for CST, is there any CST post specific for T&O I should apply to or I can apply for CST in general?
Very helpful and informative. I have a masters in trauma and orthopaedics from an African country which took me 3 years and over a year of work experience. I am interested in training and working in the UK. I dont mind doing the specialised training again. Your advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you so much for the great presentation, I have a question. I have graduated from medical school in Saudi Arabia and got the GMC registration this year through PLAB pathway. Since i have been graduated, i have been working as a home officer or non training job in Saudi Arabia in general Surgeon field which is 4 years. My question is, I don’t think that I can able to join the core training as I am overqualified as per the information you provided. What is the route for me. I understand that there is alternative core competency, as I am starting to prepare my self to apply . And is there any chance for me to join the Ortho abs Trauma ? Thank you so much..
Is surgical rotations during internship in the home country (India) counted as a criteria for over qualification? For example if I have about 5 months of surgical rotation and I work for about a year in a non training job either in India/UK before applying for CST, would I be overqualified for CST? Thank you for these amazing, informative videos...
@Road to UK I have 3 years Post MS(Ortho) academic experience & 3 years as junior registrar . Total 3+3 = 6 years academic experience in India. Is it wise to appear for MRCS and again join ST3? Or as per new guidelines apply for FRCS T&O via JSCFE & collect CESR for equivalence of CCT. I plan to be qualified as a consultant in the UK .
Thank you sir for such an incredible and informative video on orthopedic speciality. I am about to complete my MS ORTHOPEDICS degree from india and i am very keen on settling in the UK. Please tell what path should i be taking in order to become Orthopedic surgeon in the UK.
Hello, I have a question regarding "max 1.5 years surgical experience for core surgical training". Does it count 6 year rotation (internship year for MD)?
Hi...may i know what are all the things we need to do to increase our portfolio before coming to UK like log books, audit. Can u give an idea about that
Hey Ibrahim, I heard that the RLMT has been scrapped all together by the new Uk immigration laws. Does this mean Imgs can sit in first round even if the doctor jobs are moved away from the shortage list in the future? Non information is available regarding the cancellation of RLMT in total.
RLMT was removed about two years ago, but shortage occupancy list was put into place later. If or when either may be restored has not been clearly stated. It's best to take the opportunity while it is there.
An academic degree can be obtained without PLAB, but it would not get you GMC registration. Without GMC registration, you cannot work as a doctor in the UK.
Nice video Dr! If CST is this competitive, is the Run-through T&O ST1 more competitive than this? Like how difficult is it to get into the run-through Training? Does it depend on the portfolio?
Asalamu alykum doctor, i have a quick question about 18 months of surgical doctor, does that include the internship years aswell, or do the 18 months begin after gmc registration? Jazak Allah kheyr
That's not bad for competition. In India , there are less than 1000 speciality seats total and only the top 0.1 percentage of people get the seat. This seems easier.
Asalamwalaikum Dr. Ibrahim. Thank you for this informative video. I want to know that after passing phase 2, if any trainee quiet the speciality training, would they provide any certificate? If yes. Then is this certificate equivalent to MD/MD degree in other country.
Thank you very much brother for your helpful channel and the amount of information we get .i have question: for ST3 application , how can i be qualified or over qualified ? I mean is there in surgical experience or age of applicant restrictions ???
Hey! You are doing amazing work. I have a bit of a situation at hand atm; I am on a Tier 2 visa working with a Bristol based Tech company, whilst my wife is an MS ENT doing her SRship with the same hospital. We are confused what pathway to choose, 1.MRCS -> GMC-> Applying directly for NHS registrar jobs (or SHO? Is it possible to get registrarship directly?) 2. Mch in Otorhinolaryngology at Edge hill and completing MRCS (I am hoping for her to atleast get the Part A done before the course starts) concurrently. Also, can the process of reaching the ST-7/8 (Consultant) be expedited? Or mandatory 5-6 Years of surgical medical training needs to be done before writing the FRCS exam? Thanks a ton for all the information 😊
Completing MRCS would be more sensible and then once registration is obtained, look for a job. As for training, this may help in getting a better understanding: sfo.entuk.org/training-structure
hi, I want to choose to be an orthopedic surgeon by studying or masters program, not by giving exams or such, it been 3 years since I graduated from mbbs. And I need proper studies to prepare for ortho surgery. What should I do? thank you
Hii It's very useful series. It you don't mine can you give just little bit of idea on private work as uk has NHS and I assume that most people would prefer it so why can one prefer private work is it due long waiting or great service provided by private hospitals?
Private work is something you'd need to seek on your own. In the UK, just because you work in a private hospital does not always mean that there is no wait time or that the care would be better versus the NHS.
Hi Ibrahim & ibreez I have a special request for you ☺️🙏🏻🙏🏻 Can you make a video about the satisfaction and happiness level of trainees in England?? As an international graduate I know many residents in America who were victims of suicide and burnout and this was one of the reasons that scared me to train there! There is no such data. Your obtaining GMC registration after clearing PLAB is more on what GMC may ask of you to provide in the process of registration than simply just pass the exam.
