Hell, I TRY not to mix cleaner and I still cause reactions sometimes because I trusted my gut, like when I used tin foil to shield the overspray from my oven cleaner and it started letting off flammable gas. Don't mix things and the second something starts seeming weird, remove it to a safe location and ask a professional what the heck happened!
I wouldn't say it was a hack or a tip but on TikTok, this stupid ASMR cleaning where they use a whole bottle of Ajax and Fabuloso into their sink, toilet, and bathtub. I can't even describe how mad it gets me, not only is it bad for the environment but you are destroying your pipes. I don't care if ppl use harsh chemicals but use moderation and be conscious about it. I swear TikTok ASMR cleaning triggers me.
I’m a professional cleaner and these videos make me sad for so many reasons. The mixing of chemicals, the clogging of the pipes and the waste of products is insane
I just saw this video where the woman poured like 2 cups of every darn laundry detergent, fabric softener, bleach etc. she had into her washing machine with water. And she had lots of them...😵💫😬🤷♀️
It is horrible. I saw a lady that was dumping bottle , after bottle of laundry detergent, box after box of dry laundry detergent, she used tons of individual packets of laundry detergent, Fabric softener bottle after bottle, bottle after bottle of fabric softener pellets. Then tossed in with all this stuff either kid's stuffed toys, or dog toys.. that would have taken 10 rinses or more. She claimed touching these soaps, softeners were soothing to her.. that was probably 100s of dollars of cleansers such a waste, and harmful to the environment. Wth.
This isn't a hack or anything I've seen online, but I've recently realized that if I'm doing an all day or deep cleaning it's so much easier to have a crockpot meal going for dinner than to think of making something, and then messing up my nice clean kitchen!
One of the best pieces of cleaning advice I've ever received was from you. It was the whole concept of letting your cleaning products 'dwell'. Giving it time to work before wiping it off. It changed my life, and every now and then I watch you for an update. Thank you for practical and effective advice.
Thank you, Melissa! Hope many of those "deep cleaners" see and hear you. The worst hack I've seen is to wash your floor with boiling hot water, dishwashing pods and desinfectant. How to ruin my flooring 101! How long would I have to rinse the floor to get all that strong alkaline solution washed away! You could literally disolve the skin of your feet walking barefoot in your home! And imagine you let a baby with it's thin and more vulnerable skin crawl on such a surface!!! Let alone the selective breeding of desinfectant resistent bacteria, by using desinfectants indiscriminatelly! As a microbiologist: there should be laws against the misleading advertisements for chemical desinfectants! Use steam, it is much safer!
As a critical care nurse of many, many years, not only have I seen deaths from the mixing of cleaning products, but if you do happen to survive, you might have injured organs such as brain, lungs, and kidneys to the point where your life is changed forever. Be safe. Never mix chemicals.
The “hack” that I found most ridiculous was when someone showed how to “clean” a toilet by squirting in about 50 different products of all different colors! Heaven only knows what chemical reactions can take place to say nothing about wasting product and money. 😱
I would say the cleaning "hack" that makes me wince the most is using oven cleaner on so many things. It's so caustic and the fumes (even the fumeless ones) are so strong, it would gas me out. The other is using toilet bowl cleaner on other fixtures, like the tub. It will absolutely eat the finish off of things like faucets and drain plugs.
That fake bi@@h Aurikatarina is terrible for both of those things. And u can tell her videos are staged cos she never has a hair out of place - her false gel nails, inch thick makeup and hair are always perfect after apparently cleaning the filthiest hovels. Plus her clothes never have a speck of dirt on them. Whereas when I'm doing heavy cleaning I wear the oldest trackies I own and afterwards, they are RUINED with stains, grease, etc and have to be washed right away. I think Auri has in a cleaning firm probably her own, as she claims she managed her family cleaning business for a few years. And Auri just goes in for the 'money shots'. Agree re the oven cleaner it's VERY toxic. I had to stop using it cos of the fumes. I invested I'm a good quality steam cleaner which does an excellent job.
@@rebeccaoprea9917 yes it can do u really need to use loads of old newspapers or old towels to protect worksurfaces. Sorry to gear about ur countertype. 2 remedies tyat sometimes wirk is a bit of mayonaisse mixed with cigarette Ash mix into a paste and run around the ring mark in a circular motion. Or half and half nix of toothpaste and baking sida (just plain white toothpaste not the gel stuff or the whitening one). Both these might take a few goes to get the stain out, if at all, but with a try. Oven cleaner is extremely caustic I used it one time on the wire mesh insert from Mt extractor fan, which was full of grease. I sprayed the cleaner and let it soak for 3-4 hours while I cleaned the oven, but it ate a hole innthe mesh!! I had to buy a new one which ended up costing me over €50 I was bloody livid
I must thank you guys for coming up with a microfiber cloth that really works I am legally blind completely blind in my left eye and legally blind in my right eye and without your cloths which are so fantastic especially the general cleaning cloth and the woven dish towel I would have a much harder time keeping my house clean. I would not be able to find the dirt or spilled juice or leftover spaghetti sauce cloths literally stopped when you hit a dirty spot which then allows me to know that there is something more there that I need to scrub. One of my least favorite reasons for wanting to get granted counters was because usually they are a dark color and you cannot see anything spilled. Well we got a lighter color and it was still hard for me to see anything that was spilled or on it. Every night I use the amethyst general purpose cloth with soap and water and I clean the entire countertops and candle to the refrigerator and then the table that we eat on. It makes things a whole lot easier and it also ensures that I do not miss anything. Thank you so much for such a wonderful product. The towel also stops once it hits any stuck on food or spot that needs to be cleaned off before I run over it with my clean cloth. This allows me to use a sponge to clean up what needs to be cleaned up and then be able to run the dish towel over it remarkable products!😊 I I am a bit of a clean freak and I thoroughly enjoy a clean house with your products I am well equipped to do so😊
Like you said, the indiscriminate mixing of products drives me nuts. It’s so dangerous! It’s housekeeping 101 basic rule! It’s the first thing I trained people on when I was a housekeeper.
I would definitely have to say the trend that bothers me the most is what some have mentioned already...and that's the over the top amount of cleaning products for one surface. Also, when they use just one product but they use way too much! It's so unnecessary as it just leaves a horrible film on their surface...you know it does lol! It still is not a clean surface at that point as you know the film left behind has to be unreal. By the way, thanks for the tips about the microfiber cloths. Appreciate the content! 😊
The product mixing always reminds me of that episode of King of the Hill when Peggy had a cleaning column in the newspaper but didn't know what she was talking about so she accidentally gave everyone a recipe for chlorine gas.
Your channel has changed the way I think about cleaning. I have perfectionist tendencies regarding cleaning ~ it’s a drawback for me. I’ve rarely felt that what I clean is “clean enough”, so I procrastinate. I’ve learned some excellent efficient techniques from you that make it easier for me to say “ I think this is good enough “ and move on to all the other parts of the house. Thanks! Oh, and not to mention the $ saving part of making your own cleaning products 👏👏
Thank you so much for making this video. I feel like I’ve been duped a lot by false cleaning “hacks” that don’t work. Like products that are more expensive that are supposed to be amazing but its the same as the products I already have. Idk why we fall for this stuff, as if a different product will be magic all of a sudden and make the cleaning easier? Idk. I’m sticking with my original tried and true products I’ve used my entire life.
It still amazes me how SO MANY videos are out there giving advice that can put a person in the emergency room. There needs to be regulators. Thanks to you and your professionalism, we can learn what NOT to do. Oh, and your pauses were great because we can see how concerned you are about the BAD ADVICE being given on those videos.
I have a pre saved list of things not to mix and I will shamelessly post it in comments. Some ppl need to be told not to hurt themselves, but also their families and pets.
Thanks a lot!! I recently found a video where they suggested to use HOT water to clean the floors, forgetting to say that marble floors can be heavily damaged by it. It’s ridicolous to see how many wrong tips you can find on the web. 😮
This is SO helpful! As someone who wasn't really taught how to clean growing up, I'm doing my best to learn now. I've saved so many of these tik tok cleaning hacks thinking it's what I should be doing. Is this a series you do? I'd love to see more videos like this.
In my country, after mopping the tile floors (they are all tile), it is so popular to go over everything with a cloth dampened with fabric softener for the yummy smell that a national brand finally started making a fabric softener-scented floor cleaner. If you are wondering if fabric softener makes tile floors slippery, yes, yes it does.
@@stellacalder5023 yes. They do. I’ve seen videos of people boiling cleaner or putting it in a diffuser. Seems they want to wreck their lungs and kill more brain cells
I hadn't heard of enzyme cleaners before watching your channel. Can you give an example of a specific one? Will products in the store be specifically labeled as an enzyme cleaner?
@@theaclose5427 Np 🙂 Sorry I couldn’t think of any specific brands off the top of my head. Looks like the lady on this channel recommends Biokleen. I looked at it on Amazon & it’s kind of pricey. Was going to see what the stores around me carry.
I have a housekeeping business. I really appreciate you addressing this. Some of those dangerous mixtures are scary, not to mention the stuff that is just nonsense for cleaning.
When she started to sprinkle that Comet over the bathroom floor, I could not help but think of that scene in "Mommy Dearest. " Thanks for the great video.
Thank you so so much for this video!! I'm super OCD about cleaning and I watch all these videos and feel like my house is a filthy disaster after watching someone use 45 products that cost way too much money to clean their already clean surfaces.
I love your practical tips for cleaning. I hate cleaning, but your tips make it easier with no time wasted. I’ve purchased some of your products and I love them.
My pet peeve tiktok video is the toilet bowls filled to the brim with different cleaning products. All I can think of is the fumes coming out of those things!
I have had Melissa’s microfiber cloths for about three years and they are the best cloths I have ever purchased, and they still look like new,it does cut down on cleaning products, buy them,it is worth every penny.
I saw the first video on Tik Tok and believe to had left a comment in it, because she reminded me of when I was living in Puerto Rico and used to clean the floors on my knees with a bucket of soapy water, a scrabbling brush. I used to scrab the floor with the brush, then pass the towel to clean n dry, I would do the same until I was all done with the floor. When all the floor was clean, I would take a clean towel and with the broom dry all the floor. I was so used to doing this, that when I move back to here, I continue cleaning my floors the same way for some time. I still do so at times but with the towel only, for me the floor looks way cleaner and fresher. About the powder the lady use, I wouldn’t use it on floors specially if their are kids because that leaves behind like a powdery source on the floor and that’s not healthy for kids.
They fully know and aware of what they’re doing Melissa. It’s the same with 5 minute hacks. They do it for rage bait. They know people, like me right now, are gonna comment and correct or mock or get angry
Can you recommend an enzyme based cleaner? Most enraging was someone raved about an easy way to finally get baking sheets clean, especially in the corners. She had before and after pictures. It was your typical baking soda and vinegar and maybe dish soap kind of solution. In the comments, everyone including me complained that it had not really done any good. She unironically explained that it had taken her hours and hours and maybe even days of scrubbing and soaking, scrubbing and soaking. Maybe she should have mentioned that.
I found the oven cleaner and saran wrap method effective. Where u spray the oven cleaner onto a burnt baking sheet, then cover it quite tightly with saran wrap leave several hours or overnight and then scrub. I left mine overnight and it DID do quite a good job and made some of the burnt areas melt, but I still had to scrub a bit, altho the time was much reduced. Sometimes u can repeat it a second time if necessary. Just protect your surfaces with lots of newspaper as the oven cleaner can be damaging and beware if using it on certain surfaces. Eg it damaged the filter of my extractor fan, which was a metal one you can remove, clean and refit - it's supposedly metal but I sprayed oven cleaner on it l, left it 3 hours while I cleaned the oven, but the cleaner left quite a damaged hole in the wire mesh, and I had to order the piece from the manufacturer which cus me 95 euros. So just be warned.
When I was very young, I tried to clean the shower for my mom. I ended up very sick because I didn't know not to mix different kinds of cleaning products. Thank you for helping everyone with this video ❤
Hi! Love your videos. The worst cleaning advice I saw was a video of a women mopping with cinnamon…. Not cinnamon oil but cinnamon spice you would buy from Walmart 🤦🏻♀️. People the days. I just use plain old vinegar and water sometimes a natural cleaner but if I’m trying to save money just diluted vinegar.
Hey melissa? Can you give an example of an enzymatic cleaner here in Canada? Everything i found online was made for cat urine, and I want something for the cabinets like you used in an old video.
Dear Melissa, I have been watching your videos for years now, and to answer your comment question, I honestly don't watch anybody else, lol!! Because your videos have helped me SOOO MUCH and well, I trust you because I've put your tips to the test and frankly, THEY WORK. I first discovered you when I was looking for how to clean a toilet. Best toilet how-to I found, of the ones I watched that time. Good enough for me, I have never needed to look elsewhere, never even been curious. But then, I appreciate anyone who saves me time and knows what the heck they're talking about. I'm a huge fan!! Also, as someone who used to work in TV news production, and occasionally dabble in my own video production projects, I thoroughly appreciate and enjoy the production work of your videos - very well done, and I love the sense of humor, lol!! KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!! 💕
I followed a clean floor hack that used washing soda in the recipe, after drying my tiles ended up with a powdery white coating, I had to wash the floor again to get rid of it. Great cleaning hacks aren’t supposed to create twice the work. My clean freak Aunt used a similar powder cleaner to scrub their tub daily, she wore the enamel through on several bathtubs. Cousin was giving his kids a bath when they complained that their bottoms were hurting, he found they were sitting on the reside and ended up with skin damage.
Hi Melissa, one of the worst cleaning hacks I have ever seen and believe me, I cringed and then was extremely worried for the health of the person cleaning, is a video of a lady using and mixing about 8 different cleaners in a toilet all at once to get a clean sanitary toilet bowl. She piled one in after another. I am not even sure she had any ventilation. I was so scared for her health and told her she could die from inhaling all of that and basically she told me her mother and grandmother clean the same way and for me to ummm mind my business. I normally do not comment on things like that but I was seriously concerned for her health and the health of anyone in her home. I just pray they are all alright.
I'm actually shocked that there wasn't a toilet bowl cleaning clip where the person puts a crap ton of different products into a toilet bowl at once. The mixing of chemicals is the nightmare for me.
I saw a wood floor cleaning hack where she used extremely hot water and laundry detergent! I even commented to her to NOT do that. That she was going to ruin her expensive hardwood floors.
Saw someone use a strange concoction of a lid of a pot and towels to clean a coach and rugs. And people using toliet bowl cleaners to clean their bathroom showers and sinks. Too much mis information for me. Your channel is really helpful.
I only listen to you. I learned how to clean from you. I use the three wave system, work from left to right, the s pattern, the w pattern, bought and your read your book. I work in an office and I teach the others in my office your cleaning methods and they love it. You're that awesome! 😊
I am exhausted after the first video. That Comet cannot be a good idea for that floor and mixing those products is a no no. I just mopped my floors. DIY vinegar, alcohol ,water and Dawn and essential oil. Just like Melissa has taught me 😊 I can’t imagine how sticky that shaving cream floor is. Yuck. Girl when I was a kid we had a dining room with real wood framing and my mother cleaned it with Pledge then went over it with a product called Liquid Gold. I think it did a semi decent job but it was like putting baby oil on it and we had to avoid getting really close to it so we didn’t touch it and leave fingerprints on it. Bless my mom’s heart. I also believe to each his own but come on , some of these are bizarre. In my opinion perhaps Downy can mask the smell of pee but mask is the operative word. It doesn’t clean and or disinfect the area with pee on it. I vacuum almost daily because it’s easier for me with tile floors. And I take a dry microfiber cloth over exposed surfaces frequently to cut down on dust. As far as this collection of videos the one with Comet and glass cleaner stopped me in my tracks. I have a relative who is a Respiratory Therapist and the thought of mixing anything with bleach would freak she and I out. Also if there is a member of your family who has asthma or any type of lung disease mixing chemicals can exacerbate their illness. I recommend watching Clean My Space videos and learning correct, practical ,safe and efficient and effective ways to clean. Thanks Melissa ❤
I watched a cleaning video about 5 years ago that mixed bleach and toilet bowl cleaner... It's about the closest I have come to dying. Had to spend a week in hospital from the resulting pneumonia. All because the concoction in my toilet had turned to chlorine gas, which is deadly!
I love the pH neutral cleaner for my luxury vinyl plank flooring! When I tell people that it makes my floors soft, they have no idea what I mean, but after feeling it, they get it. Best cleaning stuff ever!
I can almost guarantee that the floors in the 1st clip are still gritty & sticky with all of the Comet and other cleaners she used.🤦🏾♀️ Clip 2, they probably works or worked in either a Group Home or a Nursing Home (if you know then you know).
It scares me when I see comments under videos like those and say “ if I’m not having trouble breathing after it’s not clean” like what!? No it just means you are a silly goose who’s probably got a chemical burn in your lungs! Doesn’t matter if grandma did it for years it’s not safe!
When folks correlate strong chemical smell with clean and mix chemicals or use a large amount of one particular chemical the long term damage to their lungs can come back to haunt them. It’s not worth the possible permanent lung damage.
@@brendarose3941 exactly! But good luck telling them that they are so set in their ways because “grandma did it and lived to be 95” okay people smoke 5 packs a day and don’t get cancer doesn’t mean smoking is good for you!? Ignorance is bliss🙄
Can you even imagine what the floor was like to walk on afterwards? I would love to know how many times the floor had to be rinsed. If someone were to walk across the floor and pick up Comet residue on their socks and track it through their house they could deposit Comet onto something that would leave a discolored area from the bleach in Comet. Plus the residue can’t be safe for children and pets.
I have perfected the art of cleaning - keep it simple, inexpensive and do it as you go in other words don't deal with it after a week/month etc, deal with it in the now and limit yourself to 3 reserved microfibre cleaning cloths a fourth for dusting. These can be the cheapest you can find. The cleaning solution I use is the cheapest laundry liquid detergent on the market. I use it for floors, the bathroom even the toilet. In a spray bottle make a dilution of detergent and water. For the toilet spray the entire unit and wipe down, rinse the cloth. Spray the bowl and scrub, using a toilet brush, do it every time you use the toilet to ensure it is clean for the next user. No disinfectant required. For floors, sweep first to remove debris such as hair etc then mop using a microfibre cloth rinsed in detergent solution, rinse and wipe as you complete each section of the floor use a doodle bug mop tool to push the microfibre cloth around the floor. For damp dusting, wring out a microfibre cloth rinsed in very dilute detergent solution (no bubbles), and wipe surfaces, dry immediately using a dry cloth or paper towels - this is ok for furniture woodwork etc. You will save money. Kitchen - cleaning the refrigerator - same deal as for dusting but I use dish detergent instead. For the oven don't wait until you need a jackhammer to remove built up grime -make a paste of baking soda and brush it on surfaces of the oven (pre warm the oven but not hot) - after applying the baking soda paste wait half an hour then start to wipe it away - do a test run on the oven floor first to make sure you are happy with the result. This works on fresh spills not carbon dated ones. Bathroom - if you used the shower or bath clean it by spraying the surfaces with the diluted detergent mixture after use and just wipe it down then its fresh for the next person and you never need to do the weekly clean trying to remove built up soap scum.
My wood floors have a groove where the planks meet. Over time, gunk gets in those grooves. What’s the best way to either prevent that or clean it without getting out an old toothbrush?
I don’t know if you’ve saw the cleaning “hack” to clean fabric sofas… You see people putting a dishwasher tablet into a bowl then dipping a microfibre cloth into it. Then wrapping a cooking bowl lid with the damp cloth and wiping sofas with a dishwasher tablet solution.
I saw that! Then I laughed out loud! What difference would using the lid make? What about getting in the crevices? I wonder how many people tried that and ruined their furniture.? 🤪
This video makes me laugh. I often run into such videos on different issues...from cleaning to kids raising to anything. They all remind me of toxic people who get a kick of others' failures. I was clueless to these things until I notice my own sister would recommend to me and to anyone who'd listen to purchase stuff that she had purchased herself and hated! After I caught her throwing away a type of 'blackbean' pasta that she had recommended to me, I became wise to her. Yes, I had bought and made and took a bite of that pasta myself...and threw away the cooked and raw remainder. But that was the end of it. Either for content or just because some people get a kick out of 'controlling' others or whatever, I think it is toxic. I can't fix them. But I can just dismiss them and laugh.
You can buy a multi surface furniture spray that is excellent at repelling dust. It's by Pledge. I use it on non wood surfaces, including glass once a month. However, I use it sparingly as too much can gunk up a surface. I use lint free cloths for this as microfibre cloths can absorb too much of the product and not provide the sheen layer needed. For vinyl floors I use an enzyme cleaner, extremely hot water and a cotton mop. I wring the mop thoroughly and often during the process and only use tge exact amount of cleaner per litre of water used. No bleach or scourers should ever be used on vinyl floors. It destroys their protective top layer. For stubborn stains and gunk I put a dash of neat cleaner on the area and cover with a hot damp microfibre cloth. Wait 5 minutes and wipe it off. No scraper needed.
I submit this with love: "To assure" means to promise or say with confidence. "To ensure" means to make certain. "To insure" means to protect against risk by regularly paying an insurance company.
The only thing that annoys me with cleaning tiktok is half the accounts just over use product for content because they know it gets views and they repeat it all the time just for the views. THe worst ones are the cleaning toilets ones.

I only get my cleaning advice on this channel! The first video of yours I watched was the dishwasher cleaning one, it was hilarious and very helpful, been watching ever since.
The most irritating cleaning "hack" I have come across is the chemical concoctions in the toilet! That is sooo incredibly dangerous and expensive! I came upon your videos recently while watching #ClutterBug's organizing videos and now "Clean My Space" is my go-to for cleaning questions and products! Thank you so much!!!
Great video as always, thank you! I got a question: I use vinegar instead of fabric softener, which I think is fine. BUT: If I stick my microfiber cloths together with other items in the machine using vinegar will this mean I am doing exactly that no-no and ruin them? Or is it vinegar doesn’t harm them? For cleaning I use microfiber cloths applying my homemade mixture of water, dish soap and VINEGAR anyways - so you see me at a loss here. Please help! 🤗
Mine is probably when they have an expensive product, right or wrong one, and use WAY too much of it and then spend extra time having to remove all the excess! What a waste!
I hope this means you have time for regular content again. Even remaking old content into new videos would be great. Reminders are a good thing as well as saying to yourself “oh look I am doing it right “
You are so right! People need to be very careful when dealing with bathroom cleaners. They have strong chemical agents and that’s why the packages say use only as intended. Mixing chemicals is very dangerous as well.
question please: my daughter's kitchen is old, cheap vinyl and even though they use the easy prewetted mop pads frequently, (a dog that pees in the same spot when no one is home - don't as me why they don't put a pad down, i dont know) the floor always seems "sticky". so i had recommended to her to mop with water, vinegar and a small dollop of dawn. but now i'm watching what you are saying about enzymatic cleaners (which make total sense for the bathroom! duh!), so should she use the enzymatiic in the whole kitchen? or just on the spot?
thank you! part of the problem is that i babysit one day a week an they have steps down into the garage to get to the back door to let the dogs out. i am unable to manage to get up and down them. their older dog will hold it all day, but the younger one just keeps hitting the same spot. they let them out as soon as they get home and i they are going to be late, they call his mom or dad to come over and let them out. i can barely get iin the front door due to excessively high steps and super bad knees and ankles. thanks for the suggestion. @@stellacalder5023
Something I would like your advice about... I see shorts with ladies using a spin mop to wash their walls... kind of seems like an good way to do that quickly once a year... but I imagine over doing that would ruin the paint...
I’ve seen one where you put a bottle of Fabuloso in your toilet tank after you puncture a hole in it. It’s supposed to keep your toilet smelling fresh after each flush. Not sure if it works, my concern is overflowing suds. Thank you!
I just scroll past those "hacks"... followed you for years now and things like bicarb, vinegar and rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peixide has become my basic cleaning stuff. i can't stand all the other chemical odors. oh, and of course my essential oils. i use microfibre coths I buy from Verimark in SA🇿🇦, they seem closest to ypurs, (it might even be yours imported and cut?), anyway the 3 best things I have learned from you still has to be S-pattern cleaning, working top to bottom, left to right in any area and most important one... squeegy in the shower. Thanx for this video M, greetings from SA🇿🇦
Many, many years ago, I mixed Spic ‘n Span (sp?) and Janitor In A Drum (discontinued thankfully) in a bucket to mop my rental house kitchen. It EXPLODED!! Thankfully, I smelled it in time to flee, literally run, out of the kitchen. Don’t mix stuff if you’re not cooking food.
Never use Baking Soda or baking soda based powder to deodorize carpets and rugs. It’s tricky to get out of carpets and can wear them since it’s an abrasive. It will ruin your vacuum cleaner, especially bagless since the dust is incredibly fine, passes through the filters and straight into the motor. The dust gets into fan causing vibration and bearings, wearing them out. It then clogs the exhaust HEPA filter, reducing airflow and cleaning power, and makes the motor run hot and burn out. If your carpets have an odor problem, use an enzyme based odor remover for carpets.

Just fyi, fabric softener no longer softens fabric. It has practically zero softening effect on clothes. If you look up what the most effective fabric softeners are, nobody talks about softening; it's all about the smell! I deeply wish that the manufacturers would get back to making fabric softeners that actually soften fabric. I really miss that. I became a homemaker in the 70s, when fabric softeners actually did that. It was wonderful.
Most fabric softeners make your clothes highly flammable and removes the flame retardant on babies clothes, vinegar in the rinse cycle softens clothes.
I only use the scent beads anymore. I don’t mind them because they dissolve and I get the Downey ones that are white so they have no added dye. Love them. 😊
You also can’t mix windex with a Mr clean or Lysol cleaner either. If you are going to mix cleaners you have to read the material data safety sheets first. I am not allowed to keep both bleach and glass cleaner in the same cabinet at my work let alone mix them together

This trend infuriates me, so much waste and so bad for the environment all so someone could make a video.
I just saw this video where the woman poured like 2 cups of every darn laundry detergent, fabric softener, bleach etc. she had into her washing machine with water. And she had lots of them...😵💫😬🤷♀️
It is horrible. I saw a lady that was dumping bottle , after bottle of laundry detergent, box after box of dry laundry detergent, she used tons of individual packets of laundry detergent,
Fabric softener bottle after bottle, bottle after bottle of fabric softener pellets.
Honestly. This is a great point. I know the last thing I want to do is cook if I’m spending a huge amount of time cleaning.
Now that's a hack! And...I might have just girl math my way to thinking I should get a crock pot... Any suggestions?
@just_jhe there are several different sizes on sale on Amazon right now. Only for a couple of days, but the sale prices are great!
Plus use a crockpot liner and you don't even have to clean the crock when you're done!
Agree!
One of the best pieces of cleaning advice I've ever received was from you. It was the whole concept of letting your cleaning products 'dwell'. Giving it time to work before wiping it off. It changed my life, and every now and then I watch you for an update. Thank you for practical and effective advice.
Yes it took me forever to learn this too, but it is a priceless bit of knowledge! ❤
Can’t use steam on natural hard wood floors
@@yvonnelanese-coppola4999 Well, the hack used boiling water...
I agree! I bought a cheap Shark steamer on Amazon last year. It's perfect!
I like a good bucket of hot water with a dash of dish soap for my floors, but boilinf straight out of the kettle water is a bit much
As a critical care nurse of many, many years, not only have I seen deaths from the mixing of cleaning products, but if you do happen to survive, you might have injured organs such as brain, lungs, and kidneys to the point where your life is changed forever. Be safe. Never mix chemicals.
The “hack” that I found most ridiculous was when someone showed how to “clean” a toilet by squirting in about 50 different products of all different colors! Heaven only knows what chemical reactions can take place to say nothing about wasting product and money. 😱
They're mixing chemicals like they're trying to discover a new element
I saw that! It was alarming. I had to guess she was doing it for views?
The oven cleaners actually left a ring stain on my granite countertops.
This allows me to use a sponge to clean up what needs to be cleaned up and then be able to run the dish towel over it remarkable products!😊 I I am a bit of a clean freak and I thoroughly enjoy a clean house with your products I am well equipped to do so😊

of these videos! There are So many TikTok cleaning “hacks” that are bad and I’d love to hear your expert advice!!
I can’t stand all the product mixing! People thinking they’re chemists on TikTok. That’s going to end so badly!
Thank YOU for calling out the nonsense of tik tok cleaning hacks -- you could make this into a whole series and never run out of content!
Totally agree
@@_Julie_Beecan you please share it here x
Thanks a lot!! I recently found a video where they suggested to use HOT water to clean the floors, forgetting to say that marble floors can be heavily damaged by it. It’s ridicolous to see how many wrong tips you can find on the web. 😮
MARBLE FLOORS? Maybe hire a cleaning professional? They could properly care for your entire palace.
This is SO helpful! As someone who wasn't really taught how to clean growing up, I'm doing my best to learn now. I've saved so many of these tik tok cleaning hacks thinking it's what I should be doing. Is this a series you do? I'd love to see more videos like this.
My big cleaning annoyance is people using laundry detergent to mop their floors. Oh! And people diffusing CLEANER as opposed to oils.
I use one says that used for what used for and follow their directions on the label really simple.
@@stellacalder5023 yes. They do. I’ve seen videos of people boiling cleaner or putting it in a diffuser. Seems they want to wreck their lungs and kill more brain cells
@stellaolive5023 no mistake..yes people do it..disinfectant in their plug ins..diffusing certain brands of multi purpose cleaner etc.
I’m so sick of TikTok’s where people are making what I call chemical cocktails to “clean”
My cleaning pet peeve is people mixing vinegar and baking soda. They weaken each other. Use one then the other!
It’s perfect for calcification, bc it’s changing the ph value
They actually neutralize each other. You're left with a liquid that's essentially water.

I hadn't heard of enzyme cleaners before watching your channel. Can you give an example of a specific one? Will products in the store be specifically labeled as an enzyme cleaner?
Yes, they’ll specifically say enzyme on the label usually but definitely in the ingredients. A lot of pet cleaners are enzymatic.
@jstu8 thank you! Especially for the tip about checking the ingredients list.
@@theaclose5427 Np 🙂 Sorry I couldn’t think of any specific brands off the top of my head. Looks like the lady on this channel recommends Biokleen. I looked at it on Amazon & it’s kind of pricey. Was going to see what the stores around me carry.
Melissa, having you rating TikTok’s could be a refreshing topic for the videos on this channel
You’re super obsessive compulsive disorder??
I love your practical tips for cleaning. I hate cleaning, but your tips make it easier with no time wasted. I’ve purchased some of your products and I love them.
My pet peeve tiktok video is the toilet bowls filled to the brim with different cleaning products. All I can think of is the fumes coming out of those things!
Those [laminated] wood floors just had its laminated surface ripped off from comet bleach scouring & wasted a New mop?!!!
I love BioKleen products! I use their all purpose cleaner concentrate for almost everything!
I too use Biokleen products and recommend them!
When I was very young, I tried to clean the shower for my mom. I ended up very sick because I didn't know not to mix different kinds of cleaning products. Thank you for helping everyone with this video ❤
Aww that was sweet of you though and glad you wound up okay.
Ow, watching her scrub Comet into that poor floor made me feel like someone was scrubbing ME down with a Brillo pad.😢
Thank you for this video!!! I’m so confused as to why it’s “trendy” to use products off label 🤦♀️
Thank you Melissa! I have very old (1978) linoleum I cannot change yet. I used enzyme cleaner and voila, cleaned dirty old floors! Thanks again.
What enzyme cleaner are you using?
I love your approach to cleaning. I want something fast, easy, and effective.
The mix of ammonia and bleach was what got me!
0:54 as a professional cleaner I’ve only ever done this when I’ve had stuff stuck on the ground etc.
I see these videos and just shake my head. Love your videos - I have learned so much about laundry & cleaning that I had no clue!!
OMG - I have never heard anyone elso call it TINKLE! Growing up, we had to use the word tinkle but you are the first who has called it that!!!
I only listen to you. I learned how to clean from you. I use the three wave system, work from left to right, the s pattern, the w pattern, bought and your read your book. I work in an office and I teach the others in my office your cleaning methods and they love it. You're that awesome! 😊
Great advice! What enzymatic cleaner do you recommend? 🤔
My first thought was that the floor would be SO sticky when she was done.
My first thought with the Comet was how on earth was she going to get the powder residue up.
I remember Liquid Gold!
That comet cleanser is going to take weeks to come off.
Ikr? And imagine having your family and pets walking on that stuff! Ew.
I can almost guarantee that the floors in the 1st clip are still gritty & sticky with all of the Comet and other cleaners she used.🤦🏾♀️ Clip 2, they probably works or worked in either a Group Home or a Nursing Home (if you know then you know).
Comet leaves a powdered grit. Now, it will be all over her house.
Now I want know....
It scares me when I see comments under videos like those and say “ if I’m not having trouble breathing after it’s not clean” like what!? No it just means you are a silly goose who’s probably got a chemical burn in your lungs! Doesn’t matter if grandma did it for years it’s not safe!
Silly goose sounds quite polite compared to what I want to call them.
@@johnclaybaugh9536 I didn’t want RUclips to ban me so silly goose it is 😬😂
@@kianadoescod6402 lol. RUclips seems to dislike half of my vocabulary.
The lady with the comet looks like an obsessive cleaner - first comet isn’t for wood or vinyl flooring it’s meant for sinks plus it leaves residue
I was thinking of Joan Crawford when I saw her using all of that comet on the floor.
Thank you so much for your expert advise. There is some weird shit out there 😅
I have perfected the art of cleaning - keep it simple, inexpensive and do it as you go in other words don't deal with it after a week/month etc, deal with it in the now and limit yourself to 3 reserved microfibre cleaning cloths a fourth for dusting.
Thank you for practical but smart ways to clean. Love your videos.
I don’t know if you’ve saw the cleaning “hack” to clean fabric sofas…
You see people putting a dishwasher tablet into a bowl then dipping a microfibre cloth into it. Then wrapping a cooking bowl lid with the damp cloth and wiping sofas with a dishwasher tablet solution.
I saw that! Then I laughed out loud! What difference would using the lid make? What about getting in the crevices? I wonder how many people tried that and ruined their furniture.? 🤪
I hear the rage in your voice. 🤣🤣🤣 Love this format. haha
THe worst ones are the cleaning toilets ones.

i just use water mixed with either vinegar or a tiny amount of dishsoap. no mess, no waste of money, no smell, no allergies. highly effective.
If you add a little rubbing alcohol the floor dries faster.
I have done this with no issues , the one thing I don't do is dry them with heat.
Thank you so much, so nice of you to take the time!
Mine is probably when they have an expensive product, right or wrong one, and use WAY too much of it and then spend extra time having to remove all the excess! What a waste!
Appreciate this bc I have years of experience and soo many do it differently.

Something I would like your advice about... I see shorts with ladies using a spin mop to wash their walls... kind of seems like an good way to do that quickly once a year... but I imagine over doing that would ruin the paint...

There's an expert cleaner on social media who sprays oven cleaner on top of glass ceramic stove tops. I just can't do it because it seems so harsh.
Comet on the floor AND scrub with the brush!! Oh My! Damaging the floor big time!
Nice video. Thank you.
I've heard of washing floors and walls with tide powder detergent. I agree not to use products that are not designed for cleaning. Great video.
Hello hello love love love your videos. Love your tips and tricks for cleaning a little easier lol

How's the weather in Winnipeg??
As a fellow Winnipeger, so snowy! Lol
Hello & sending you 🌞 from SW Florida; please send cool (not hoodie weather kinda cold) temps down south PLZ.
Putting comet on what looks like vinyl flooring will probably destroy the finish
Great video! What enzymatic cleaner would you recommend?
If you have seen her previous videos, she recommends Biokleen Bac-Out Stain+Odor Remover.
@@mrodriguez7135 Thank you for letting me know!
The best fabric softener is vinegar.
Most fabric softeners make your clothes highly flammable and removes the flame retardant on babies clothes, vinegar in the rinse cycle softens clothes.
I only use the scent beads anymore. I don’t mind them because they dissolve and I get the Downey ones that are white so they have no added dye. Love them. 😊
We’ve really mostly used it for static reduction
You also can’t mix windex with a Mr clean or Lysol cleaner either. If you are going to mix cleaners you have to read the material data safety sheets first. I am not allowed to keep both bleach and glass cleaner in the same cabinet at my work let alone mix them together
