That content warning at the beginning was so eloquent, I’ll be using your phrasing from now on. “Eventually in our lives we all must face these uncomfortable topics head on, but to each their own time, so if it’s not yet your time, come back when you’re ready”. Seriously so well put.
babe wake up floppycock just dropped another multi-hour analysis about something I've never heard of which will inevitably become one of those videos I watch several times over because goddamnit it's just so good
I find the Salome reference very interesting. Because Salome's story is that the king asked her to dance in exchange of anything she wanted. She then danced and asked for John Baptist's head *because her mother told her to*. Both the dancing and what she asked for where her mother's instructions and wants, even if she herself had nothing against John.
Also fun about the witches cutting Suzy's hair, though this could completely unintentional. It was common folk belief, not everywhere of course but in many places, that a witch's power came from their hair. This is why in several witch trials that took place, women were shaved head to toe in order to deny them any of the devil's power while imprisoned. Of course the witches are taking Suzy's hair as a taglock, a magical connection that will give them power of her. But taking her hair could also be seen as in some way trying to limit Suzy's own power. Similar ideas were spread across many cultures, the significance of hair. It is not only tied to spiritual and otherworldly connection, but to one's own personhood, an idea we can still relate to today.
I found you from your Who's Lila video but I've fallen in love with your channel. You're well organized and you're great at visualizing and justifying your theories. I'm excited for this video and for all of your future content.
Same after watching the who’s Lila video I’ve been a fan ever since it was legit such a great retelling of the story and explaining the concepts but also exploring others and I appreciate how long they are too
1:45:44 for those unaware, Tangerine Dream is an electronic band that's still going ever since their debut album in 1970. Their particular "cosmic" sound has been massively influential, incl. on the score to this very film. TD are best known now for a) inspiring the Stranger Things music, and b) their scores for Grand Theft Auto V, Risky Business and other films; but their 1970s albums are still openly revered.
Loved them since i first heard of them in 1977 with their score for Sorcerer. They've changed over the decades, but they still DD reserve respects...oh, and it was fortunate to see them live in 1986, third row center.
I have always felt the dream sequences are just as important as the main story. The problem was no one was talking about them at all! And they are so fast its hard to keep up what is happening let alone analyze them. You, my man did an awesome job!
This film leaning more into dance than the original was such a great choice. Dance is such a visceral art form that lends itself to horror beautifully. They really push the natural body horror that it already kind of is to its absolute limit with the Olga/Sarah sequences and I adore it for that so much. The switch to a more contemporary style from ballet also gives it such a unique, bestial flavor that really sells how this coven worships a primordial entity that existed before there were even humans to dance. It evokes the movements of animals crawling on their bellies in the dirt, so much so that you know exactly what Suzy means when she mentions that it reminded her of animals fucking. The choreography is such that the viewer can come to that conclusion themself before she even says anything about it and I think that's so impressive! The general vibes of the dance are spot on, but I also really enjoyed your deeper analysis of the more specific pieces of choreography. Also, amazing catch about Klemperer and Anke's papers. The conclusion to his story always left me feeling unsatisfied, like I was missing something, and it turns out that I totally was! I never considered taking anything the fake Anke says as fact, but that's a very intriguing conclusion. Was really looking forward to this one and you did not disappoint. Great work!
Volke is very much meant to be a fascistic work. The german "Volk" while being a german cognate of "Folk" obviously, is also the idea of the rustic, good christian, often rural "folk" idealized by Nazi ideology. The idea being that jews and other marginalized diverse groups were traditionally associated with the urban and metropolitan areas. This all plays perfectly well into the Nazi symbology present in the character of Miss Blanc, her dance Volke, and Susie's red, black and white theming during it. Hope this was clear and helpful! Love your work!
Oh lord those skits T_T First time anything like that made me tear up. Especially your suggestion to not be paralyzed by this gaze. Im just starting out my adult life, and oh every desicion i make feels so scary and like im doing something wrong. Ive felt this way my whole life, but now it feels people expect more of me, as if ive had any time to learn not to be so afraid. Ive been afraid to do even things that just make me happy, like creative projects or playing games even. I feel like thats one of the reasons i was so drawn to your channel ever since i watched that Lila video, you radiate this genuine awe and love for these pieces of media. And the amount of love and effort you put into each video is just inspiring. I want to do the same, I want to share the love and theories and stories i have without such fear. I dont want to be so paralyzed anymore, ill try more to explore even if i get things wrong! Thank you truly for the reminder, i hope you know now how much it means to a stranger on the internet.
Thank you for enjoying. These skits I feel were visually the weaker, but at the same time they were the most vulnerable. I'm glad it resonated with you and hope you make that first move to jolt yourself out of paralysis. I liken it to sleep paralysis. Where you're body does not want to move or wake, so you muster that small bit of motion or noise to wake yourself up. I hope you too can jolt yourself out of that paralysis that so many of us suffer from and GET CREATIVE!
The bruised abdomen scene, along with the painting with blood, the arm birth logo, the mother grabbing Susanna’s arm. It makes me think that Markos may have made Blanc miscarry at some point or sterilized her, and that Blanc longs for a child, but hides it with her hate of men. She begins to show more of a motherly role towards Susanna after this.
I'm commenting again because I had a thought™ Tilda Swinton plays both the Doctor and Markos (besides Blanc), both old people. But the way she portrays their breathing is so different, and it showcases the nature of both characters. The Doctor's voice is raspy and his breathing comes out hard, like he's forcing his lungs to work harder than they would naturally. This is normal for an old person, his breathing is shortening with time, ever closer to his proverbial and literal last breath. He is an old man, nothing more. One weighed down by his guilt, but not someone who revels in wickedness. Markos, on the other hand. Her breathing comes out harsh and raspy, forcing lungs that ought to be long dead to keep working. And I have to sing Tilda Swinton's praises here in particular, she made Markos talk and breathe as if she was enjoying every stolen breath. As if she knew she should be dead long ago, but takes pleasure in feeling herself continuing to exist. But not in a way where she seems happy to be alive, where she revels in her own strenght. Because that strenght is not her own. It's stolen. And THAT is what she revels in. Her cruelty, portrayed masterfully even in how she BREATHES.
1:39:20 the diagram looks like amateur dance notation, so that tracks with the interpretation. There are some examples online that are so gorgeous to look at, you can almost feel how the dance would take place just by looking at them! Some notation systems look a lot like occult sigils or runes too. As a fan of the original as well as the remake, my favourite part of this movie is that they made the art of dance directly connected to the witches and their spellcasting, whereas in the original it felt only circumstantial that the witches were using a ballet school as a cover. I love Argento's, but this remake is so meaty and unique, it feels like a completely new movie, I wouldn't even want to call it a remake. A sequel to this would be amazing! So happy to have found your channel, you are very charming and have a wonderful presentation style, hats off to you!
I think you are about to get a huge influx of viewers after Wendigoon's "Faith" videos. I think you deserve it, I loved your "Who's Lila" analysis and can't wait to watch this one!
"Gaelic Irish is that a thing?" In English, the Irish language is just called "Irish", but the Irish word for "Irish" is "Gaeilge", and so "Gaelic" is also sometimes used to mean Irish. "Scottish Gaelic" is a different, albeit similar language, so it is almost always helpful to qualify the word "Gaelic" as "Irish Gaelic" or "Scottish Gaelic". So, overall, the only issue you really made in saying "Gaelic Irish" is that the order of the words, "Irish Gaelic" would be more proper.
i love this movie so much. I'm glad someone actually covered it. Also as I'm learned in the occult, I knew the "blocking tape" was arcane geometry. Its a sigil. A glyph. A curse. Lots of subtle hints in this movie. I love both this and the original. They're both worthy of praise and respect.
While I was watching Wendigoon's Faith video, that meaty 7 hours of Who's Lila analysis caught my eye in the recommended sidebar. When he endorsed your channel just a few minutes later, that sealed the deal on what I was watching next. Been loving the content ever since.
I have never clicked on a video faster. I hold a near obsession with Suspiria and I love the way you present your essays. Too many times have I cornered friends to listen to the original soundtrack by Goblin while frantically explaining the connections between Suspiria and 'Levana and Our Ladies of Sorrow' from 'Suspiria de Profundis', especially the conflict between Mater Suspiriorum and the younger Mater Tenebrarum. The Three Mothers trilogy carries such raw themes. Your videos are a wonderful simulacrum of those kinds of encounters and I mean that with a sense of shared passion of the topic. This was a spectacular piece as always. One of the things that always comes through with your videos is your personal investment in the subject matter. I hope that you continue to follow that fervor and what fascinates you for your video topics. Your presentation and the production quality of your skits makes any subject a treat, and the accompanying recipes are absolutely something to keep in mind
Hooray! Feels like christmas to get another essay from you. Your taste is incredible and you have already built such an impressive portfolio of essays. Consider me a fan! Have a great week peacock and friends ❤️
I love how much I actually learn from your videos. So many media analysts and critics don’t do the amazing research that you do. I seriously feel like I’m in a college level film class at times. You are awesome!
Epic stuff! Suspiria is easily one of my favourite horror movies (the original and the remake), so it's amazing to see it broken down so comprehensively.
You’ve done it again FP! As a woman I can’t help but remember how it’s said that a woman’s history is told through their foremothers unlike men and their forefathers. I think in that context, this was why this movie was a successful remake of the original “Suspiria.” Btw, Suspiriorum is the oldest of the Three Mothers and the fact that she’s passed onto a member of the current generation in the film makes sense. You can even read the Three Mothers as symbolic of the Triple Goddess/Hecate/The Fates who grant death and represent the phases of womanhood to humanity. The three girls saying they wish for death at the end can be interpreted as them accepting Susie/Suspiriorum as their Mother, as Suspiriorum would represent the “crone.” However, you can also read it as the three girls rejecting the “maiden”/“mother” part of the Three Goddess who represents life (Madam Blanc) too which is why they are killed like the rest of the women who are with Marko (Marko representing death that is), the previous incarnation of the Three Goddess. I also would just like to recommend the movie “Come True” (2020). I think you’ll really like this unconscious romp of a film!
I'll check it out! Thank you for all thT background aswell! My major flaw having gone into this was not having watched the original films, so I appreciate it!
@@flawedpeacockis that a flaw (peacock)? I think a piece of media should be able to stand on its own for criticism and analysis. If you wanted to do another 7 hour tour de force you could have included the original film as well, but you decided not to and that's fine. You could always come back to "Suspiria" in reverse, analysing the original with the remake in the background. It's really up to you, obviously.
Truly commend you for the time and effort you’ve put into this. I love this movie. It’s one of my favorites, but there is not a lot of conversation, much less analysis. Your attention to minute details, text on screen, movements, sounds, is just incredible. Your interpretation of the dance??? Holy shit. I could live inside your brain and listen to you work through symbolism and imagery on any subject lmao
You don't know how much happiness this video gave me at this harsh time. Suspiria by Luca Guadagnino is one of my top 10 movies and seeing you make a 4+ hours video about it is just....pure joy poured into my soul. Thank you so so much for your work and dedication for every single video you make. I can't even count the number of times I have rewatched the three-part Faith series, Who's Lila, and Suspiria videos. Love your content and can't wait for more. Also, if I can and may, I would recommend you check out a game, called Metaphobia (a point-and-click mystery game). I played it a long time ago and still think about it ending from time to time, but didn't see everyone was talking about it enough. It's free too, no dime spent, just a small, free, and interesting game.
I enjoyed doing this for Who's Lila so here we are again: A STRING OF COMMENTS! This one is going to be a bit more scattershot, but you deserve every drop of engagement I can wring out. Here we stand at 18:18 in the video, and I think everything so far has been solid coverage. The skits were good, the intro was great (although I haven't had the energy to follow along with any of the interactive / hidden video elements to date, I recognize their presence), and "DickByBoringDick1992" got me so hard I simply HAD to pause and drop this one in. Your comedic timing and absolute no-sell of your own jokes (see also the earlier language transition) are just perfect.
I'd like to note that there's a decent bit of christian symbolism at play in the movie as well! I believe that it could lend an explanation for the deal with Griffin and eventually Tanner that you were looking for. I think Griffin/Tanner represent scapegoats in the biblical sense, the one upon which the sins of all others are placed upon, and then summarily punished (often banished) for those sins to cleanse the flock and allow them a clean slate. I think because Tanner seemed to be the most devout to Markos, she was chosen by mother suspiriorum to be the scapegoat that would be punished for the crimes of the Markosites. It could also be why Griffin seems to exoerience a much tamer echo of the effects of Olga's punishment for leaving the company, as well as being in the periphery but usually seperate from the dancers (like in her little balcony area). I'd also like to note the distinct way Madame Blanc gives Susy her boon (which looks v much like the shimmer that Susy sees for the rest of the movie) in the beginning, the hands and feet, very reminiscent of stigmata (the wounds of christ). Christ is also seen as the ultimate scapegoat in christian lore, and we see Susy's mother refer to her as "my sin, a stain upon the world" and Susy is at least in the eyes of her mother, not her daughter, socially banished from her family and eventually literally leaving it. Later in the film, however, when Susy has embraced her role as suspiriorum, she is shown holding one of the dancers in the pose of la pieta, Mary cradling christ -her child's- body. An interesting shift, starting as the child and ending as the mother. Though this could simply be implying that Susy and Suspiriorum are not the same entity, and suspiriorum has fully overtaken susy, which is very evident by the everything about that scene. Also if I were to get a bit floppy with it (thanks for the new phrase), then looking at it through a christian lore lens, its possible that the shimmer is the holy spirit part of the trinity, and at the end we are seeing Susy, suspiriorum, and the shimmer revealing themselves as 3 hands of one entity, not unlike a version of christianity's holy trinity? Also resurrection of a dead person specifically stated to be a loved one and christ allegory making madame blanc into a lazarus/mary magdeline mashup figure might be something? I think that may be the floppiest of my reads lmao but it's interesting to me all the same My friends say I'm great at the noticing stuff part, but not the tying things thogether part, so forgive me if this is all nonsense lol. Anywho, fantastic video, I'd be delighted to see you cover more films or shows, you have an incredibly affable presentation style! Stay floppy, and I'll be keeping your channel in mind! :^)
It's become standard for me to fully experience the subject matter of your videos before watching your video itself. I can't recommend this enough to other viewers of this channel; for Who's Lila, specfically, doing so was an amazing experience, and showed me one of my new favorite games. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole Who's Lila video, waiting for analysis of each part of the game, and it fully delivered. Alright, I just finished up watching Suspiria, so let's get into this video. I'm hyped!
Never heard of or watched Suspiria before this video, but I'm glad I did take the time to watch it before watching this analysis video. I think you did an absolutely fantastic job from the skits in between sections to the in-depth analysis, pointing out easy to miss details and going above and beyond to really pull out the meaning from things. It's content like this that makes me appreciate the subject media even more, and I appreciate your videos. I'm excited to see the Inscryption analysis next and I hope your channel continues to grow and succeed, you deserve it.
Your interlude in the ‘who’s lila’ video where you described a dream with all your friends made me sob and I can’t explain why. It was beautiful. I was so happy to see this uploaded when I hit about hour 4 of that video. Keep up the good work. You’re making the desiccated corpse of an english major inside me shamble and shake and it feels great.
You've brought me a newfound sense of curiosity, motivation nearing on an itch to learn more. Something i havent experienced in years, because of previous trauma surrounding learning. Blessed be your work, and all the time and effort you put into these videos. It shows ♡
Another fantastic analysis! It's odd but the first time I saw this movie I wasn't any more aware of the hostage situation story and then literally just a few weeks ago I did a bit of a deep dive on it and man is it such a messed up story. Like, think very recently post 9/11 American talking heads on Fox News levels of nationalist propaganda and xenophobic scapegoating. I know you mentioned about how that lawyer had to flee Germany, it was because they were threatening to pass a law making it that even a defense lawyer could be counted as culpable in the very act of providing a defense! Personally, I'm American so it's not like I've never seen absurdly blatant miscarriages of justice but learning about that history on this side of the George W. presidency makes it all the more shocking to hear the EXACT SAME SCRIPT about "fighting terrorism" in 1970s Germany. To my interpretation, I think Markos represents that old Nazi history still parasitically feeding off the German people in the 70s (HEY I ALSO LEARNED THAT MANY OF THE POLITICIANS IN POWER THEN WERE FORMER NAZIS ISN'T THAT GREAT AND DOESN'T THAT JUST SAY SO MUCH) with Blanche representing the conservative party of Germany at the time which in it's actions and philosophies was no where near removed enough from Nazism to lead the nation towards any sort of healing or progression forward. There's probably more of this political analysis waiting for someone better educated than myself but I think that's where your last whiteboard that you struggled to fully realize may lead to!
Dammit I'm very pissed I scrapped that final last minute whiteboard. I think you would have really enjoyed it. I was making very similar connections, but I felt I just didn't know enough about German politics. I'm glad that I've found others who notices the political aspects to Markos and Blanc.
This movie was such a wild ride tbh. It took the general idea the original offered and built on it in a way that I honestly felt like it was the version the original wanted to portray, but couldn’t due to a lack of budget or inability to consider how to do it. I found that, in the entire film, we are seeing how the school has finally come to be in the presence of a woman who was the “true” Mother. Her kindness, quiet nature and natural talent was something that was long awaited but not accepted by those in power for so long. Something about the long standing “power” held, made it harder for them to release it. It made them selfish. In a sense, it made them more unworthy. In the end, when she’s telling the husband about his wife. Even though she’s telling him this sad and heartbreaking truth, she’s still so maternal. She’s so loving. Warm. It’s an example of why she was the the choice to give to the Mother. This movie is *chefs kiss* Also, if you have a nervous laugh like I do, watch the original. There’s a deadass awkward moment of everyone sleeping (or trying to) in the main area and the head of the school is just SNORING like a Sith Lord and it’s funnier cause all you see is this shadow of her? It’s… it’s so perfectly executed and made me laugh longer than it should have (Just fyi my laughing should never be peak comedy. I laughed at What Happened to Baby Jane cause no one told me it wasn’t a comedy. I thought it was a dark comedy. I was wrong. 10/10 watch under the false impression that it’s a comedy tho. Makes the ending even more hilarious.)
Randomly decided to watch some lore on faith the unholy trinity, found a channel with 3 videos on it. Thought to myself, "i will keep this in mind". Loving every video, the attention to the details, the whiteboard. Keep up the good work my good sir.
Extremism, no matter where on the political spectrum, is always destructive. I think that is a running theme with both sides of the coven (along with the political real-life happenings.) You could go further and say that Suzy tries to escape the very strict bounds of her conservative upbringing to a new life as a dancer in the big city - just to end up in a different authoritarian regime. You pointed out the two sides of the coven going differently about the brutal jobs. Maybe the Markonites symbolising the almost businesslike evil of the Nazis, while the Blanconites show more of the joyful cruelty of other regimes? One isn’t better than the other, it’s just different. Moving from one ideology to another, even an opposing one, doesn’t guarantee you end up in a better place, just as following in your parents footsteps can lead you to the same terrible places as rejecting their ideas.
Wow. This video had me tearing up. Watched Suspiria for the first time in maybe 2020. Reliving my feelings of awe, shock, horror, pain and despair for my own troubled childhood and overbearing mother through your analysis was cathartic. Wonderful. Love your Who's Lila analysis too. That video actually got me into Tarot.
Your work is so good that it made a movie I wasn't a fan of seem super interesting. Your 'Who's Lila?' video was how I discovered your channel and you've been my favorite content creator ever since. Keep up the fantastic work!
Absolutely losing my shit over the Novum shoutout. I love going back to his Hereditary analysis from time to time, and I was *just* thinking how similar you two are in that you're both S tier researchers/theorizers/presenters!
This man is literally using our/his favorite games/movies as a way to build his own universe in his videos. Detective Vyor (Viewer). Are we and Vyor one of the same or are we separate with the same desires to find out the deeper meanings and stories of our beloved media? Amazing channel! Really grateful I stumbled across your channel (or y’all’s channel 😉😉) when the first Faith video came out! 10/10 would recommend to anybody
Ykw Vyor is more akin to Detective Yu, he's sort of become one of my favorite of the characters, idk why. The character the lore, I'm basically winging it on a video by video basis.
I’ve only found this guys channel a week or so ago and I love his content! How long the videos are, and how accessible and accommodating his content is :)
Your 4+ hour long videos, really shows how hard it is to explain surreal themes using narration. It really puts surreal film and media into perspective, and shows how well good visuals and story can convey the directors or programmers vision better than a written or oral story ever could. ala suspiria, inland empire, twin peaks, memento, who’s lila, you name it. Your channel might as well cover anything surreal at this point, your synopsis are always thourough and in depth but these last two videos are great stuff dude!
only a true master could so effortlessly make wendigoon say flaw peacock 🙏🙏 super excited for this vid though. ever since the skinamarink analysis i’ve been a huge fan!
Even though i struggle to keep attention to most series and other long content because of adhd, I love watching your videos and thinking about and getting into the little details of a peace of media. The way you go through everything is very nice and satisfying even with a complicated plot. Looking forward to more! :D
I love how on your second video you were worried about having peaked, and literally every video I've watched of yours has been a BANGER ❤ Thanks for all the hard work!
Im very surprised that you arent more popular! I know there is a painstaking love that goes into creating these long video essays of media choked full of subtext and lore. Happy to be a new subscriber and cannot wait to work my way through your catalog. Next on the list is your Lyla analysis. Super excited!
I could honestly listen to you talk all day (and I practically have). The passion you wield through your voice is highly contagious. Wishing the best for you.
it took me 3 days of coming back to this video in sittings to get through it, but wow. i will never not be in awe of your thoughtful analysis, your personal reflections, all that attention to detail that is exactly what i adore from video essays. i love seeing someone creating from the sheer love and passion from it all. and as a survivor of complex trauma, i think that you captured the gaze incredibly well: it really does leave you with this feeling of no escape, that anyone around you could be someone that knows your abuser(s) and you could have what peace and solace you've made for yourself snatched away. klemperer's reaction to patricia was also incredibly real, it's so common for survivors of that sort of abuse to be painted as delusion. i'm far past all of that now, but this is a movie that'll stick with me for a long time, in large part thanks to the new knowledge you brought to the table. keep on going, dude, i'm excited to see you cover one of my favorite games next 💜
your vocabulary is partially the reason i love your videos so much. (scrumptious dumptruck would be a great band name) you are a joy to listen to, thank you for entertaining me while i do data entry all week! looking forward to more :)
i found u from the analysis u did on the faith series and i meant to comment every single time but i was sooo overwhelmed in part because brother ur videos are not only beautiful to behold but also kept me company when the going was rough. so here's the thank u comment suspiria is definitely the movie ever holy crap
To me, the hook symbolizes the rib of Adam, made into Eve, the first woman. The curve and the flattened shape of the hook with the blunt end, really reminds me of bone.
Also, I watched the original suspiria and loved it. And refused to watch the new one, I came across your Jennifer's Body video, and then saw you had this video. I HAD to watch it now. So tha k you for making my world a little bigger.
This video is awesome! You have a real knack for breaking down big fancy philosophy; you legitimately have a better understanding of Jung and Lacan than some other students in my advanced english classes.I watched this movie before and was so confused about the breathing. It unsetlled me in the movie, I had a real brain blast moment when you explained it. I've watched all of your videos and this one is just as chef's kiss as your others. You've got allot of passion for your topics and it really shows! Makes it SUPER fun to watch. :) PS: I was looking at that book patricia had in her diary and I think its about Lacan's theory of "imaginary" things. I think the ending of that would be something like "blurs the lines between the symbolic and the real". TLDR; "imaginary" here is something controlled by a person's unconscious mind. things are "imaginary" when someone confuses the "Real" and the "Symbolic" An example of someone suffering from psychosis will look at reality (the "Real") and think it represents something beyond what it is -- for example paranoid delusions. And example of someone confusing the "Symbolic" for the "Real" are people who suffer from severe anxiety believing they have an illness so intensely that actual physical symptoms start showing up. I hope that explains it... I'm not as good as you at breaking these things down lol
For anyone interested, this is the "fancy dancy" quote I was describing. "What is Real is misrecognized as Symbolic (for example, as in particular sorts of obsessional-neurotic and paranoid-psychotic symptoms, certain meaningless contingent occurrences at the level of the material world of non-human objects are viewed as though they were meaningful signs full of deep significance to be deciphered and interpreted) and what is Symbolic is misrecognized as Real (for example, as in psychosomatic-type “conversion symptoms,” unconscious mental conflicts encoded in language and ideas are suffered as bodily afflictions and ailments)."
Oh my gods, Suspiria is one of my absolute favourite mòvies, and there aren't a lot of Suspiria videos out there, so i literally jumped when this video popped up in my timeline and i immediately clicked and liked it ❤
OH FRIC another Flaw Peacock jam? Dude I don't know if you realize this but you're easily one of my favorite creators on the entire platform. My friend and I have a meme template of you that we use all the time. You're amazing 🥰
I absolutely ADORE Inscryption! I only know a bit of the ARG, because I was late to the game in a very literal sense, so I'm glad you'll be using it in your analysis. Can't wait to see your take on it!
Thank you for putting this together and sharing openly. Loved every minute of this movie and your video. Highlighting the corporeal ties to women, dance, the human body, and breath are truly outstanding. Helena Markos appearance in general is shocking, let alone her lactation during the ceremony.
I notice something new every time I watch; recently I just noticed that at the final dinner (the last supper?? Lol) Susie is the only one without any food on her plate.
Can't wait to watch this. I find Suspiria to be massively underrated and would probably be a modern masterpiece if it wasn't sharing the name with such a highly regarded classic. The "dance" scene is one of the most difficulty to watch scenes ever put on film and Dakota Johnson really captures both the intensity and innocence needed for her role. This is a reading I haven't seen before and after your previous vids (and the length of this one) I know I'm in for a great ride. Kudos!
I just recently watched 2018 Susperia, and I knew I NEEDED some sort of breakdown of the film. There was so much I missed that I wasn't even aware of. Both the film and your video covering just about everything (along with your skits) are truly an artform
I like how the Shimmer looks like both intangible smoke but also visually looks like the very dance Susy is performing. Almost a more abstract form of the smoking all the Hexen do. I hope to be able to watch it soon.
Tremendous work! Mentioning Simone de Bouvier AND David Lynch in one session won you a subscriber. I’ve got five pages of notes on this movie. Mostly about the influences of Greek theatre on the very Aryan motifs in the final act. Thank you!
Just finished watching in a single sitting (I lead a very healthy lifestyle) and even for a movie that i didn't know existed until you decided to cover, I enjoyed it almost as much as your previous projects. I admire your vulnerability when discussing delicate manners, it's a pretty refreshing demeanor to present a video essay in, where many i've seen tend to shield themselves in agressive comedy, for example. You won't believe how stoked i am to see you analyze Inscryption.
I just saw the movie this week and it's marvelous, a great work of art in every way possible. And I don't have enough words to thank you for this video, you are truly amazing! I felt like we were talking gossip while drinking coffee as old friends catching up. I learned so much and all my thoughts and compreension of this film blew my mind. Love this so much! Kepp doing this great job!
"In this vast, neurodiverse world, it's a strange phenomenum that we are also profundly affected by the GAY-"
The far-right in a nutshell.
@@maltyfredboop REALLY LMAO 😭😭😭
I mean that’s technically true if you are gay lol

That content warning at the beginning was so eloquent, I’ll be using your phrasing from now on. “Eventually in our lives we all must face these uncomfortable topics head on, but to each their own time, so if it’s not yet your time, come back when you’re ready”. Seriously so well put.
"Eater of Baby Food" and "Listener of Rattles" my favourite Dark Souls bosses
I thought that was just Bloodborne canon.

I just rewatched the film and I think Susie is the only central character we don't see smoking. That seems to be another hint about breath symbolism.
Just from the shape, i think the Hooks used by the witches are sharpened Ribs. Would make sense given the link to breath magic
That is so damn good. I think you hit the nail on the head!
Watched that one and binged the rest. Agreed with everything you said and it's presented in such an engaging way I could watch floppy analyze anything
Same after watching the who’s Lila video I’ve been a fan ever since it was legit such a great retelling of the story and explaining the concepts but also exploring others and I appreciate how long they are too
Dude same. I would not have watched Suspira if it wasnt for his dedication that goes into these projects.
Pppp
Great work!
Should have warned me bro, I would have taken a PTO day for this.
I just EO'd sick!
My pure luck of having the day off!
I wish I had pto at my job for that reason

I hadn't considered the cigarettes as "wands" due to the period and setting - Germans are big smokers. THANK YOU.
Shoutout to analysis videos that are twice as long as the movie they’re about, gotta be one of my favorite genders
I'm commenting again because I had a thought™
Tilda Swinton plays both the Doctor and Markos (besides Blanc), both old people.
I noticed the pattern surrounding the central star looked a lot like the Web of the Wyrd.
@@juncohill I referenced the two and the floor pattern is actually pretty close, just being a bit more star-like and misses the middle line.
Kind of confused by the conflating of all sigils and glyphs with curses
@@5h4d0w5l1f3 That's okay, it doesn't luckily make you miss anything from the movie itself. These are just tiny eastereggs of sort.
While I was watching Wendigoon's Faith video, that meaty 7 hours of Who's Lila analysis caught my eye in the recommended sidebar. When he endorsed your channel just a few minutes later, that sealed the deal on what I was watching next. Been loving the content ever since.
nothing like some good old meaty flaw peacock
“The took this poor man’s phallus, and turned it into a listening device.” I had to pause I laughed so hard
Hooray! Feels like christmas to get another essay from you. Your taste is incredible and you have already built such an impressive portfolio of essays. Consider me a fan! Have a great week peacock and friends ❤️
“Nice ass”
“I’ve got a very… wide… sense of humor.”
YOURE SO FUCKING FUNNY
I love how much I actually learn from your videos. So many media analysts and critics don’t do the amazing research that you do. I seriously feel like I’m in a college level film class at times. You are awesome!
Epic stuff! Suspiria is easily one of my favourite horror movies (the original and the remake), so it's amazing to see it broken down so comprehensively.
You’ve done it again FP! As a woman I can’t help but remember how it’s said that a woman’s history is told through their foremothers unlike men and their forefathers. I think in that context, this was why this movie was a successful remake of the original “Suspiria.”
Btw, Suspiriorum is the oldest of the Three Mothers and the fact that she’s passed onto a member of the current generation in the film makes sense.
@@flawedpeacock No worries! Motherhood is never easy to research lol much less parenthood in general. Keep flopping like the Flawed Peacock you are!
It's really up to you, obviously.
you're the only person who can make a 4 hour video and have me wanting more, much love
5:32 Look ma, I'm on TV!
Thanks for the re-shout out! ❤ Now to strap in and watch this monster of a video.
I think that may be the floppiest of my reads lmao but it's interesting to me all the same
My friends say I'm great at the noticing stuff part, but not the tying things thogether part, so forgive me if this is all nonsense lol.
I'm hyped!
Even in a video where it's a test of "speed," you still kill it with high quality. Gonna have to watch this a couple of times
It shows ♡
Thanks for this. Glad to see I’m not the only one this obsessed with this film.
The problem is that literally everyone in Germany after the war was a former nazi, it’s like the CCP they were the only game in town.
Starting a petition to get this man as big a whiteboard as he wants.
This movie is *chefs kiss*
Also, if you have a nervous laugh like I do, watch the original.
There’s a deadass awkward moment of everyone sleeping (or trying to) in the main area and the head of the school is just SNORING like a Sith Lord and it’s funnier cause all you see is this shadow of her? It’s… it’s so perfectly executed and made me laugh longer than it should have
(Just fyi my laughing should never be peak comedy.
So glad to be hearing you say we'll be keeping that in mind again
The commentary over the montage of the head exploding sequence has me crying wwidiediiddiff
I adore psychological horror, I'm amazed I've never heard of this movie! So, thank you! Your channel is becoming one of my favorites these days.
Really grateful I stumbled across your channel (or y’all’s channel 😉😉) when the first Faith video came out! 10/10 would recommend to anybody
Ykw Vyor is more akin to Detective Yu, he's sort of become one of my favorite of the characters, idk why.

Yay! I'm so glad there's more Flaw Peacock content!
To me, the hook symbolizes the rib of Adam, made into Eve, the first woman. The curve and the flattened shape of the hook with the blunt end, really reminds me of bone.
You're quite the wordsmith. The phrases you come up with to describe things take me all the way out. 🤣
Also, I watched the original suspiria and loved it. And refused to watch the new one, I came across your Jennifer's Body video, and then saw you had this video. I HAD to watch it now. So tha k you for making my world a little bigger.
I'm so delighted you did such a deep dive into this extremely overlooked movie! Thank you xx

The way you lined this up with yourself in the frame is perfect 😂
This video is awesome! You have a real knack for breaking down big fancy philosophy; you legitimately have a better understanding of Jung and Lacan than some other students in my advanced english classes.I watched this movie before and was so confused about the breathing. It unsetlled me in the movie, I had a real brain blast moment when you explained it.
I've watched all of your videos and this one is just as chef's kiss as your others. You've got allot of passion for your topics and it really shows! Makes it SUPER fun to watch. :)
PS: I was looking at that book patricia had in her diary and I think its about Lacan's theory of "imaginary" things.
I love hearing your references to Armenia in those skits. I'm second-generation, so I'm happy for any shoutout I can find.
I love this analysis, it really is a movie that benefits from multiple viewings to pick up on all the things going on in any given scene. Great video!
The most exhaustive and entertaining video I've seen about one of my favorite movies, wow!
Great dancing, detective
I absolutely ADORE Inscryption! I only know a bit of the ARG, because I was late to the game in a very literal sense, so I'm glad you'll be using it in your analysis. Can't wait to see your take on it!
I started watching you recently and just finished binging all your vids, I can't wait for this one, too!!
FIRST SKINAMARINK, THEN FAITH, NOW SUSPIRIA. WHY DOES THIS BEAUTIFUL MAN COVER ALL OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS
Kudos!
Just finished the video after 2 days of on and off watching. Nothing else on the internet like your content or personality, love it all so much
I just recently watched 2018 Susperia, and I knew I NEEDED some sort of breakdown of the film. There was so much I missed that I wasn't even aware of. Both the film and your video covering just about everything (along with your skits) are truly an artform
I haven't even watched the vid yet but I know it's going to be awesome!! This is going to be a treat!!
Thank you, Bingo. I wish I had more time for a more in depth shout out segment. I checked out your New grounds page and your art is so damn cool.
I love seeing how the channel's popularity grows and how much attention the videos get.
I just watched this film for the first time recently and got so excited when i saw you were making a video covering it! I'm so ready for this
My day off just got infinitely better! Please take all of my free time with your content.
And thus the greatest among us was born, DickByBoringDick1992. You mad lad, don't ever stop. You are a national treasure.
