Outstanding review!!! As a woman hardly versed in such equipment and in desperate need of a shop vac, this review solidifies my choice of this DeWalt wet/dry vac! Thank you!
I purchased this exact shop from Costco about 6 months ago and was just about to unbox it. After seeing your video I know I made the right choice. Aaron, I found your unboxing review entertaining and informative. "It allows you to turn your sucker into a blower, now that in any other industry you'll need to leave a tip for." 😆Just subscribed.
Awesome, AWESOME review! Thanks for this. I purchased this yesterday on a whim as I just bought a house and needed one. I went in blind and was a bit concerned I was going to get a crappy vac. After watching this, I think it’s safe to say this is a very decent unit for the price. Thanks again.
This is one excellent and very comprehensive demo/analytic video. You get a very good idea of exactly what you're buying if you watch this video first.
just bought this unit to replace my ridgid 16 gallon, i do auto detailing and having a small vac is way more ideal i like that i can use my ridgid hoses with this new vac
Thank you for this review. My husband just purchased this for me for mother's day and I am so excited to have it. I will be purchasing the Ridgid Car Detailing Kit for certain. Keep up the great reviews.
I bought this vacuum in January 2020 @ Costco. I love it, but use it once in a while for wet cleanup and the screws on the inside started to rust out a couple months ago...stainless steel without stainless steel screws?
I complained to Costco about the rust, they said called DeWalt - Dewalt was willing to replace and I said no, but they had the same model constructed of plastic, which they shipped to me at no cost...but the screws still got rusty which I will eventually replace with stainless steel screws...
Great video. Just bought it for $79.99 [$99.99-$20] at Costco. Given current inflation, not too bad. I feel confident about using it after watching this. Thnx!
Good job using the dBA scale. The dBA scale is a “human hearing” weighted scale and the best for measuring perceived and dangerous sound pressure levels.
Very nice review! I have had mine sitting in a box for almost a year. Got it going a couple week back and have been very impressed with it.Now seeing all of your review I am even more pleased waiting to get this one instead of the porter cable version.
I have a brand new standard white DeWalt filter in the box sitting right next to me and the white filter can be used wet or dry. So you do not need to remove the white filter when sucking up liquids. It is even washable. It is on the box in nice readable letters.
Great review! I've had several Shop-Vac models over the years and their ONLY redeeming quality is the "pump-out" feature (QPV/ QULP series) with garden hose attachment which has served me well for flooded basements and such. Are there any other shop vac brands that have this feature WITHOUT having to buy an external and powered add-on? Other than a higher drum capacity, this is the only lacking criteria I can think of for the perfect shop vac. Not sure if it's patented but with that company now defunct, would the pump-out design (or similar) be deployable to the market? Thanks again for the great review... it's a year later and I see Costco lists the same model but for $10 more. Seriously thinking about grabbing one.
Thanks for the informative video, Aaron. We appreciate your honest approach and your humor on this review! Do you have any experience with connecting this to any of your DeWalt power tools? If so, what adapters, if any did you have to use? Did you happen use the Universal Adaptor, DWV9190? Thanks again, you just gained another subscriber! Cheers
Thanks for the sub. Yes, I use it with my Delta table saw, Bosch router table and Ridgid miter saw. All coupling is done via two adapters: Powertec Dust Flex Cuff: amzn.to/30jGzII WORKSHOP Wet/Dry Vacs Wet Dry Vacuum Adapter: amzn.to/34yA0Er As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases
“That’s a lot of sucking!” 😂🤣 Great job and you made me laugh. I almost bought this at Costco today, but I think I’m going to splurge and upgrade to one with a poly tank and a higher powered motor. You do get what you pay for, and every single time I buy one of these in this price range it isn’t long before I regret it. Plus, it’s made in China and I try to avoid that these days.
Amazon list the CFM for this vac at about 86. That's a terrible number. I contacted the Dust Deputy company and asked them what CFM they recommended to use with the Dust Deputy. (BTW: They said to ignore the horse power rating as it is a meaningless figure.) The company said to use a vac with at least 150 CFM with the Dust Deputy. They suggested that the CFM number should be the number to use when comparing vacuums.
You gave an exceptional review. I was thinking about getting this just so I can vacuum up pet hair. Because you took the review to a level of layman's terms coupled w/great examples - I'm definitely buying it now.
Alright dude you are a great reviewer, a profound thanks. Can you please continue to review shop vacs and also please include water lift. The bucket test is great but water lift test gives us auto detailers a better idea of what kind of suction power we're gonna get at the tip of the nozzle (like it shows us the pull if you get me) this is very important for tough jobs like pet hair, sand or extreme dirt removal. A special thanks for the HP explanation, I agree 100% this why the egg shaped ridgid vac is often reviewed as the best auto detailing vac by many because even tho is fake propaganda "5hp" only vs. The "6.5hp" (less "HP") it still provides a slightly more powerful suction, of course all these great reviews come from reviewers that test this things outta of the box which is very misleading to people that are planning to use daily on a commercial setting. Main problem with the egg shaped ridgid vac is that it is too small and as a result the filter gets clogged very fast resulting in less suction (see the dilema) oooh not to mention that if you suction water and your filter gets wet it's game over. Removing the filter or improving the filter are not viable options for auto detailers bc it takes too much time and no matter how good or organized you are it is freaking impossible to keep the filter dry/clean in this tiny shit vacs (design flaw) or (maybe they designed it on purpose so you will spend a ton of money on filter replacement). This is why I appreciate your time so much, we need a vacuum that is big enough and doesn't loose suction once you start using it for real. Like it needs to be designed for the filter to stay clean/dry for at least a day and we need freaking suction not freaking lies about HP CFM blah blah blah, like real statistics on real environment (not controlled environment fake advertising BS). Ridgid/Home Depot has cheated us out of our money with their shit filter destroying vacuums with tiny motors from home depot for way to long. WE SHALL START... THE VACUUM WARS
Thanks for the information. I'm headed to Costco after work to purchase. I need to empty my water feature for the season. Wish I had seen this before purchasing the portable sump pump
Did you end up getting it? My vacuum that I inherited from my dad ended up burning out so I'm vacuumless at the moment but I would like to hear what people think about it
Just today I was using it to empty a trough of water and the bottom was leaking from some interior rust spots. If it were you would you try to go through dewalt or back to Costco? I love the way it rolls and looks but now I have a leaking vac.
My ONLY complaint about this vacuum is the absurdly short power cord. Also, you should mention that your peak amperage draw is under a "no-load" condition, and probably with a brand new filter. Your measurement will change with different accessory attachments and the level of filter or bag occlusion. Sucking water out of your bucket will give a more practical measure of peak power draw. Since humans perceive sound intensity on a (approximate) logarithmic scale, I don't see the point of converting to Pascals for purposes of noise comparison. Kind of silly, I think.
Thanks for the great video. I need help though - we used it in the cafe to suck dirty mop water off the floor and didn't take the filter out. Is it ruined? Or can it be cleaned, rather than replaced? Thanks!
First thing is. Your presentation for this dewalt shopvac was the best. I just bought one and so far very happy. My only concern is I need to use this on a garage drain. To remove some water. Is there a specific filter for water for this model. Or do I just remove the regular filter and then suck out the water from the garage drain with no filter.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe the manual says leave the included filter in place. That said, I've never done it this way. Whenever sucking up liquids, I always run without any filter.
I chose this vac from Costco a few days ago. You gave a very impressive demonstration and I like it. There is the only thing that I don't quite understand about the air filter; do you have to remove it when you use it for wet vac? The instruction manual says it can be used for both applications and you reminded us to remove it instead. Which is the right way? I know the dust collector (Bag) must be removed for sure. Thank you.
In your video, you remind people to remove the filter before sucking up liquids. I have this DeWalt vacuum, and the manual says that "The cartridge filter must be positioned over the filter cage while vacuuming liquids." Page 9 of the manual. Which filter is this? The manual calls the dry vacuum filter the "Clean Connect filter". Are these two filters one and the same? Please advise? Thanks for your help.
Aaron: Thanks for this review. The Stanley wet/dry vac has a foam filter for wet pickup. It seems the DeWalt does not have a filter for wet pickup. Do you find the foam filter to be unnecessary?
Costco no longer seems to show this model (I asked an associate and he said they don’t believe they’ll be getting any more). They now have the DXV08SA (smaller 8 gallon variety) for $99.99 😢
You said remove the filter for wet use, the book says it has to to be on to suck up liquids, then dry it for at least 24hours. Makes it sound like if its not on you could damage the motor. Being paper not sure how it would stop liquid. I assume you had no issues sucking up the water with no filter?
I purchased a 10gal Dewalt yellow/ black plastic from Home depot many years back and it has horrible suction and is about 3 times louder to my and others ears vrs a shop vac 10gal purchased two years later at Lowes Saw the $70 at Costco and didn't bite due to that experience.... Perhaps it may be worth it after all.
Does the debris such as saw dust or fine powder like sanded joint compound get blown out? Would the bag prevent this issue and would buying a better filter also help in keeping the debris in the can/bag where it belongs.
nice machine but i sure love my big bertha Shop-Vac 16 gallons 6.0hp 60.5 L with a 24 foot hose (3 hose endto end) i love it i do use a bag and cartridge filter makes suction and air flow is nice .
Thank you, man! I got one recently. I wanted a new shop vac for the garage. This one works so much better than any others I've had like "shop vac" craftsman, etc.
Looked at this today, does the blow blow out while it's sucking? Got a similar vacuum and it's so annoying that while your sucking up, the "blower" function is causing a whirlwind behind it ..
Great information! I didn't know what that little rubber strap on the side was for, nor the blower tops. Quick question, does using the filter bags inhibit the "suck power" or hurt the motor in any way? I figured I might as well use the bag when I got it new and now I really like the idea of keeping the inside clean and better filtering for dust particles.
@@Lida44540392 I'd say it's single use because it would be tough to dump the stuff that's inside the bag. There's no outlet on the bag except the small hole for attaching to the vacuum. I suppose you could use it more than once but I'm not sure if it would be worth it.
It's a shop vac, we expect it to be loud! Very good though. Crush resistant is WHY it is flexible. It keeps it from staying regid and creating a hole when crushed. Also I am a bIg fan of Home Depot. Have never had the majority of your problems\
I haven't always disliked Home Depot. When I lived in Phoenix they were my go-to. However, the Seattle location closest to my house is a disorganized mess staffed by dangerously misinformed mouth-breathers. I hate it.
I own this Dewalt shop vac from Costco and I also own 2 Ridgid shop vacs as well. I think Ridgid power tools are good and the lifetime service agreement is even better if you remember to register your tools in the first 90 days. How ever the 2 Ridgid shop vacs I own is garbage. I forgot to register them so I only have a 3 year warranty on the shop vac.s My Ridgid shop vacs are just over the 3 year mark and has hardly been used. I always run filters and bags in my shop vac. I have 1 shop vac that was only used with liquids. I did run a wet filter on this one and the other one is only used for dry stuff. Like I said in the dry vac I always have a filter and a bag installed. The wet vac as I call it only lasted 6 months before it stopped working. the dry vac as I call it stopped working 2 days after the 3 year warranty expired (how convenient). I spent $159.00 and $179.00 Canadian on my 2 Ridgid vacs that did not work very well. I will never buy another Ridgid shop vac in this lifetime. In my opinion they are junk. Sorry Ridgid but laying it out as it is. Now the DeWalt shop vac I bought from Costco is a beast all in its own. It is quieter and a lot more powerful than both Ridgid shop vacs. It works great for vacuuming out your car or clearing the rain water from my basement window wells when it rains a little to hard. I paid less then $100.00 Canadian for the Dewalt shop vac from Costco. This weekend I will be purchasing another DeWalt shop vac from Costco providing they have them in stock. People do not learn and waste money like I did. Just go buy the Dewalt Shop Vac.
@@PrithviRVarma LOL, I can promise you I am 100% not a bot. I actual had a minor flood in my basement due to heavy rains and one basement window did leak a lot. I used both my 1 working Ridgid shop vac and my Dewalt shop vac. The Dewalt won hands down. The Dewalt shop vac is so much quieter and has a lot better suction. The other nice thing about the Dewalt shop vac is the white filter that comes with the shop vac can be used for both wet liquids and dry material. Not like the Ridgid shop vac that takes a separate filter for liquids. If you decide to buy the Dewalt you will not be disappointed.
@@PrithviRVarma Honestly I am not a B O T. I am 100% a real person writing 100% true reviews. We had average basement flood. It came from 1 of the basement windows. I used the last remaining Ridgid shop vac and my Dewalt shop vac. The Dewalt shop vac was the best shop vac to help reduce the pain of a basement flooding. If you bought it you will not be disappointed. The last Ridgid shop vac quit working at the end.
Unlock and lock filter not working; I turn to unlock position, but hard to pull out filter; finally I managed to pull out the filter but still not able to put back the knob.
Great review! Very clear and concise, I could only add that some viewers are very interested in quality “Made in America” not sure if they allow you to give those details, but it is often Very difficult to determine when searching for various products. Thank You again for an excellent thorough review! Dan Mills
Thanks for the review I just picked one up on sale in store for $69.99. Price to suck value was too good to pass up. Glad your review confirmed my suspicions.
That's normal for the first ~3 hours of use, just the carbon brushes breaking in, although if it's been doing it for like 3 weeks of use then I'd get a warranty claim
was about to ask the same, it the manual it says use the Clean Connect filter for wet and dry but clean it and dry it after each use especially if you want to dry vacuum with it after. I haven't unpack it and use it yet but would be interested to know whether you tried it yourself ? thanks
Nice video. Question: I have melted wet snow puddles with gravel in my garage. I can't find a foam filter, as suggested in the manual, online or in stores that fit the deWalt. I bought this product to clean up the garage floor from puddles and gravel by car drops in a slightly heated garage. Any suggestion of what to us for a filter protector or just take it out?
Does anyone know of a spigot to replace the extraction cap at the bottom? I'm finding it messy and difficult to empty the unit when it's full of dirty water, the dirty water splashes out as soon as you remove the cap to empty the unit. I think a spigot would be much better but I can't find anything online like it
Had to return it back to Costco. Vacuum hose would not clip onto the shop vac. Poor design. When I returned it, Costco guy said he knew exactly what I was talking about and said it’s a known issue.
Hi Aaron, thanks for the serious review which is well shot and accurately dubbed. TBH, I am amazed by your professional video shooting and the magnetic deep male voice. You could be an excellent movie or TV commercial dubber! Keep it up dude!
Hello. I bought this one. I need use a paper filter?? I want to see what you do but i can’t see. I have to use? Or not? Or when is dry surface i use? I don’t know how to use this one! If i want to clean garage i need use? Or it is just choice?

I was wondering this also. The manual says to use a filter for wet use.
If you're sucking up like a cup of water it's fine if you let it dry but I'd just take it out for water
Bought one last year. It's fantastic and has some mean suction power!
I purchased a 10gal Dewalt yellow/ black plastic from Home depot many years back and it has horrible suction and is about 3 times louder to my and others ears vrs a shop vac 10gal purchased two years later at Lowes
Saw the $70 at Costco and didn't bite due to that experience.... Perhaps it may be worth it after all.
I say go for it
Yeah that sounds like a defective unit
Does the debris such as saw dust or fine powder like sanded joint compound get blown out? Would the bag prevent this issue and would buying a better filter also help in keeping the debris in the can/bag where it belongs.
DeWalt sells hepa filters for this unit if you really want to keep the dust contained.
1-1/4 FITS ON 1-7/8?
I need a new house vaccume, would this be more for industrial work or would this be a good choice for home use instead of a traditional home vaccume
is the 10 gallon HEPA dewalt vacuum better than this?
Depends on what you're doing with it
Hi I have this vacuum and want to use it as an extractor. Anytime I use this for wet use all I need to do is remove the filter? let me know. Thanks
Question. Does the filter need to be put in with the bag? Or has to be separated?
nice machine but i sure love my big bertha Shop-Vac 16 gallons 6.0hp 60.5 L with a 24 foot hose (3 hose endto end) i love it i do use a bag and cartridge filter makes suction and air flow is nice .
Can be used on carpet at home? When to use the dust bag?
Good video. FYI, per the instructions, you should use with the filter when picking up water.
Really?
Any facitlity run only vaccum and shutoff blower while doing inside home?
Thank you, man! I got one recently. I wanted a new shop vac for the garage. This one works so much better than any others I've had like "shop vac" craftsman, etc.
Looked at this today, does the blow blow out while it's sucking? Got a similar vacuum and it's so annoying that while your sucking up, the "blower" function is causing a whirlwind behind it ..
Yes, where else would the sucked up air go?
Are these still available? Seem to be sold out everywhere. Hoping to snag one before it’s to late!
horvath3000 I purchased mines from Costco Baton Rouge, LA. They had maybe two left today!
It does not have a sponge filter and I have not found a way to connect anything to the outlet on the bottom so I can do continuous water vacuuming.
I’m thinking about buying the 16 gallon but I don’t see any reviews on it here on RUclips
Are you able to turn this vacuum into an extractor?
I wish you would have gone over the paper bags this comes with. I’m using the vac with a bag and I find the suction, well….sucks!
I don't use the paper bags.
Thanks so much for your thorough investigation and instruction. Sorry you don't have a Home Depot like St George, Utah their advice is very compent
When I lived in AZ Home Depots were fine. I think it's regional.
11:57 "slip it in the rear eh?"
Which home depot has associates offering advices...as the one near my home definitely has none..
It's better for the motor because it keeps the power and the fine dust out of the motor
Is filter bag a single use??
@@Lida44540392 I'd say it's single use because it would be tough to dump the stuff that's inside the bag. There's no outlet on the bag except the small hole for attaching to the vacuum. I suppose you could use it more than once but I'm not sure if it would be worth it.
It looks like Costco is now selling the same model in 8 Gallon, no longer in 10. Do you think 8 gallons is enough for most homeowners use?
I think 8 gallons is plenty
Good and informative! Is there a hose extension accessory available?
I can't seem to find the accessories storage bag that's on your vac, where did you get it?
Was included with the vac
Great review bought one today for $89.
I hate it.
Return with Home Depot is 90 days. With Costco, it’s almost whenever. Electronic devices are 2 years so I’ve learned Costco first.
Mark, I am going to listen to your advice because I was just looking for a comparison between RIdgid and Dewalt. Hopeful that you are not a bot.
Just got this today at Costco. Great review thanks
Thanks for the awesome review. Going out to pick one up now. Cheers!!!
Where you able to use the filter bag? Great review.
I have not, saving it for when I've got a bunch of something really dusty
Great review! Very clear and concise, I could only add that some viewers are very interested in quality “Made in America” not sure if they allow you to give those details, but it is often Very difficult to determine when searching for various products. Thank You again for an excellent thorough review! Dan Mills
the ones sold in the canadian costco dont have a blower option :( i guess in canada we only suck, no blowing for us.
Thanks for the review I just picked one up on sale in store for $69.99. Price to suck value was too good to pass up. Glad your review confirmed my suspicions.
Price to suck value is a solid metric
Is filter bag a single use ??
Does your unit smell like somethings burning when you run it? Just got one yesterday and it has that odor.
no
That's normal for the first ~3 hours of use, just the carbon brushes breaking in, although if it's been doing it for like 3 weeks of use then I'd get a warranty claim
Instructions say to leave the filter on then you say to take it off for wet use. I’m confused
was about to ask the same, it the manual it says use the Clean Connect filter for wet and dry but clean it and dry it after each use especially if you want to dry vacuum with it after.
I haven't unpack it and use it yet but would be interested to know whether you tried it yourself ? thanks
I'd take it out for wet, sure you *can* use it for wet but it usually just turns into a pile of slop
I would just use it with the included pleated filter and then pull it out to dry when done.
@@aaronstestlab thanks, I'll try that.
Take the filter out
Does anyone know of a spigot to replace the extraction cap at the bottom? I'm finding it messy and difficult to empty the unit when it's full of dirty water, the dirty water splashes out as soon as you remove the cap to empty the unit. I think a spigot would be much better but I can't find anything online like it
Sounds like something you'd need to fabricate. You could drill a hole in the middle of the existing cap and place a bulkhead fitting in there.
Had to return it back to Costco. Vacuum hose would not clip onto the shop vac. Poor design. When I returned it, Costco guy said he knew exactly what I was talking about and said it’s a known issue.
nice review! Can you remove the wheel base for this? looking to use this in my table saw work bench.
You can remove the wheels, the base would be tough
Great video, and I subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work. I'm going out to Costco now
It seems like you can not use paper bag filter with this model. Why they are supplying it?
Yes you can
It looks like the DXV10SA at Costco has a 1 7/8” diameter hose while the DXVSA at HD is a 2.5” hose.
When would the bag be used?
Extra dusty jobs?
Alton Industries, not DeWalt, is the manufacturer of DeWalt shop vacuums.
Wait so it does blow air?
Just bought mine today. Can't wait to use it.
You don't have to use the paper filter. I personally do not.
You need a filter for dry
Thanks for the HP analysis, very helpful.
No problem...those wonky advertised HP figures drive me nuts.
