- And the president is part of the problem.
This is Part 3 of Vox Atlas: The Amazon, a three-part series about the world's largest rainforest, why it's in jeopardy, and the people trying to save it. Watch all three parts right here on RUclips.
Part 1: • The destruction of the...
Part 2: • The war for the Amazon...
Brazil has over 900,000 indigenous people, most of whom live in the Amazon. After centuries of persecution, they were given extensive rights under a new Constitution in the 1980s, including the right to claim and win back their traditional lands. Since then, hundreds of indigenous lands have been demarcated and protected by the Brazilian government.
But in the last few years, those lands have come under attack by landowners, ranchers, loggers, and farmers who want access to the resources inside these indigenous lands. And since Jair Bolsonaro became president, the number of invasions into indigenous lands has skyrocketed.

What remake? This stuff has NEVER stopped happening...
Sadly its not 'a modern remake'. Violence against Indigenous people is ongoing.
Now it’s being recorded tho

@@michaeltheundeadmariachi4494 funny thing is that the midwest corn belt during the summer months produces many times over the amount of oxygen than the Amazon
For future viewers of this video. In 2019, the area you now know as the Great Desert of Brazil, was once a lush rainforest that supported indigenous people for centuries.
8:00 "this land" he didnt even tried to pronouce it LOL
Lets just all remember this happened in the US times a 1000 ;-)
bloocarty actually even in 2019... with the issue of the dakota pipeline donald trump signed an executive order that push the construction of the pipeline against natives will because it will pass throw their reserves.
The people are not important, its the forest that is important
Marlo, and we can add indigenous australia to the list.
This happened in the US, Hawaii, Australia, and other parts of South America.
Greed has always destroyed.
@@caroselloshow5615 there are no real natives left in the US they are all gone, dead, thankfully though.
This is just sad the same thing is happening to the Khoisan of Botswana. These highly capitalistic governments, that boarder on autocracy are threatening to destroy the world. Why isn't there a global agency that protects indigenous people, when you weaken indigenous people you weaken nature, which in turn affects all of us.
Two years later, this video is still relevant.
Say it loud, say it clear! Way to go, Vox ♡
Mr beast : plant 20 million tree
Jail borsonaro : im about end this man career
Ecosia: just use me, u don´t even need to donate money bruh
30% of the pantanal forest was KILLED IN THE FIRE, it was the most preserved forest in Brazil
I read a book about this once. The Pirahã tribe's villages were being invaded by Amerindians, once one of them said: "they sound like they are always crying". The anthropologist who was with them had the sense and said that they needed the permission of the Natives.
It's quite intersting that tou haven't talked about the resources underneath these indigenous areas. They're Just "protect areas" because past Brazilian presidents like Lula and Dilma had accordances with countries like Holand, France and Germany to receive money in order not to explore those areas. Indigenous people wants to join the society and not live on the "margins" of it. I am Brazilian and i leave here to better know their situation. One more thing... Try to consider Brazil's neighboors Amazon portion, you'll find REALLY "INTERESTING" things about it
This is the norm in the planet earth.
Fun fact: There's no such thing as "protected lands" in Capitalism and Colonialism.
can we just put that president into a jail?
No
Looking at his family affairs, that might happen sooner than you think. Not soon enough though.
l am brazilian and we lost faith on the left, corruption, bad economy, etc. We wanted change, so we voted on bolsonaro, which if from right.
Shame on you Brazil for electing such president
After 200 years, the Brazilian people will apologize to the indigenous people. When Amazon had become a relic of the past...
The history repeats itself time to time.
