  • Davi Kopenawa is a tribal chief and spokesman for the cause of the Indigenous Yanomami people of the Brazilian Amazon. Their territory has been officially protected since the 1990s, but during the Bolsonaro era, a huge increase in illegal gold mining threatens to destroy everything. Davi seeks support to stop the illegal mining from wiping out his people. He appeals to law makers in Europe to put pressure on the Brazilian government. His message is that the world needs to heed the warnings of Indigenous people, the true protectors of the earth, before it is too late. Holding Up The Sky is a documentary film by Pieter Van Eecke.

The Yanomami tribal chief is saying what leading scientists are saying about global warming and its effects. And it sounds like the tribes knew of it before the scientists!

2024 and they still need to fight for the right to be on their own land. They are part of the land... there is no forest without the people who have been there for thousands of years. They are survivors!
