  • Meadowlarks are at once familiar and yet surprisingly little known.

I grew up in north central Iowa, walked a mile and a quarter to a three room country school. My route took me past a 40 acre pasture with about 2 dozen dairy cows. There they greeted me every morning along with a pair of meadowlarks singing so very agile and lively. Oh how I miss that gravel road and the sound of those dear birds !

I love spring! Robins sing in early morning and evening, while meadowlarks sing a lot during the day.

I put up an increasingly elaborate "bird feeder" everything station outside my living room window when I inherited the family farm house.
Unfortunately I twice found little bundles of feathers. I have indoor / outdoor cats. So took down the bird station. Really miss the birds.
Next time, I'm getting a dog.

Here in Louisiana these were common years ago haven't seen or heard one in several years I blame that on loss of habitat what once we're open fields are now patches of woods that went into tree farms years ago along with some old pasture areas
