Since I have been using the ruler with the squares on the bottom and triangle on top, all my half-square triangles match perfectly! So glad to see it used in different ways.
A carryover from my garment sewing education, I am a pre-washer and straightener. That means I have strips of fabric from straightening the edges of my purchased fabric along the cross-grainline (since clerks at the fabric counter no longer tear the yardage). I have been watching quilting videos for [years] on Public TV and now on RUclips but am just getting started at actually trying my hand at quilting. I have been cleaning up my strips and scraps by sewing 4-patch and 9-patch blocks to get familiar with basic quilting techniques. It's so fun to see those corners matching up! Next I want to practice HSTs ... so many different ways to approach them. I appreciate you illustrating the most common techniques in this one video. I think I may have one of Eleanor's rulers even. After my HST practicing I'll tackle the Flying Geese. I know Eleanor has some fantastic ways of streamlining those as well. Have you done a demo on Flying Geese? I'll look for it when I get to that point in my practice.
Thank you for this info, I’m heading to the site to order it right now. I’m getting tired of my squares not always coming out the same size. I’m new to quilting it different then sewing garments like I’m use to
Laura as usual a wonderful tutorial does quilt a day have a monthly collection like Annie’s company does where you pay so much a month and ya get the material and the free pattern of the month that goes with it thanks for sharing always enjoy watching your videos you’re a wonderful inspiration to quilting
Hi there. Loved your video. Simple but clear instructions. I am a new quilter and I'm getting my techniques improved but I have a dilemma. I have 3 sizes of squares (2 1/2", 2 3/8", and 2 1/4") as some are sewn well but the cutting wasn't precise, and vice versa. What can I do to remedy this? A shame I didn't do this method from the beginning but I cut squares individually.
I noticed in the beginning of the video you cut a big square turn into your half square triangle so Does it matter what size you cut the square at in the beginning because I want to make a half square triangle quilt with half squares that end up being about 10 inches so do you think I should cut a big square at 20 inches and then use your method to trim down the square into half square triangles that are 10 inches so Please let me know this as soon as possible
It is only because it looks like she started with a layer cake. When you cut from yardage, your starter square is much closer. I generally only have shavings, and the accuracy is way worth it!
I did make them bigger than was needed just so the camera could pick it up better. When you follow the directions you do not waste that much. I should have mentioned that sorry! I too do not like to waste fabric :)

You are amazing!! Such an easy way to do things...Thank you!!
Thanks for the info, I have not seen this ruler. Looks like it works great. Have a good day.
I love this ruler! Use it very often.
Very informative - thank you....
Thank you for showing us how to use this ruler. It sometimes can be aggravating to use specialty rulers for visual learners like myself.
Thank you great explanation
TFS, I use your vlogs as guidance for learning all thetime.
thank you :)

This is wonderful thank you

Thank you.
Awesome
Merci!!!!!
Thank you for this instruction. I collect items with bees. What fabric did you use for this?
Same here!! I love all things bee!
the fabric is from Timeless Treasures they have a few different lines
I am way to cheap, I cannot stand to see all that fabric being wasted.
THOUGHT THE SAME!

@@SewVeryEasy glad to know I'm not alone...lol
What a waste of material. That new ruler should go to a 5" instead of a 4 1/2" triangle. To bad
S. Woods Miss Negative 👎
I’m sure it’s only for demonstration purpose, easier to see
Laura is awesome
I thought the same thing. I didn’t find this comment negative nor demeaning to Laura, just something you were pointing out.
@@nlm6054 Some people just need to call other people names don't they?
@@kellythomason2960 exactly I just thought it would have been nice for it to go all the way to the 5 inches
