It’s more of a hate that they love each other. I think some part of junior truly loves Tony because he just is your prototypical gangster through and through, and I honestly think junior takes pride in knowing he probably had a small hand in Tony being the way he is. On the flip side they both have to constantly compete with each other because at the end of the day they are both the bosses of New Jersey, and their egos are simply to big to admit that both of them are the boss of the family. Even if in the end it is Tony who is all alone with that responsibility.
