Yo reid I have to know and it wont change how I love your vids and watch them still errry day, but did you come from money? Like trust fund money or some shit cause I really get that vibe..... Anyways love the channel
Christian Knight Look at my early videos from 2016. You’ll notice I also started with no budget and no fancy gear. You’re looking at 10+ years of music producing, 3+ years of entrepreneurship, and 3+ years of regularly posting life-changing content on RUclips. There’s absolutely no need for trust funds when you have creative discipline, song placements, and your own business! 🤷🏼♂️
Enjoyed the video. Great content! I only suggest a few things with number 4. It's a great idea to have the lap top cooled above the AC vent but I would also suggest to have it lifted above it maybe 12 inches or so to prevent any problems with your home's heating and cooling system. The pressurized air can back up into the ducts and cause problems if it isn't able to escape for long periods of time. It may also be good to place some sort of filter between the two to prevent the dust from the air ducts from damaging your laptop over time. I hope this is helpful. Take care buddy.
Hey gang, gotta say... don't fault Reid for being successful. Most pro producers wouldn't give you 10 seconds of free advice, even if you were related to them :)
When yall think studio equipment and being expensive you have to get things piece by piece you dont just by everything.. I look at it as some people spend a 500 a month on eating out clothes or whatever, like I do I sacrifice forget the clothes and ordering out save that get a native instruments keyboard that month next month grab beat machine there you go got a start sacrifice is all..
Save for the bigger, more future proof purchases instead of falling for the consumerist cycle of work-buy-work-buy. Your goal should be to get to the point where you can honestly tell yourself "That's enough buying. I already have a great (x type of gear), I'm just craving the adrenaline rush of spending money and don't actually need a better piece of gear."
@Torgul: if you already have a 2-floor 4-bedroom house, trust me, you can afford several Junos and laptops. I don't know what real estate is like in the U.S., but in my country, if you had a house like that, you could pretty much buy your entire studio in one go.
I sit in a black and white room when I'm doing my creative work. I don't want a bunch of stuff and colored lighting cluttering up my work space. Love it. Each to their own.
Here's how I would do handle the multiple studio thing: - Have one room that's your main studio. Make sure it has a closet. Put your PC in that closet so you can put the most beefiest cooling systems without worrying about noise. This will act as your main PC. - Use low power PCs that can handle streaming on your other studios. Make sure it has the same number of monitors as your main studio. These will act as your remote PCs. - Use local remote access to access your main PC from your remote PCs It'll make recording and organization insanely seamless and would save you a bunch of money from having to purchase mutltiple music production capable set ups and into better gear or file reduduncy.
The peltier chips that cool the Sony mic are about $2-3 each and could keep a lap top pretty cool, just in case your A/C breaks down (AliExpress has tons of them). I have to agree with the lighting tip, I can't play well under white lights compared to coloured lighting, it makes a world of difference.
Thanks for the tour of all of the studios in your house. Makes me feel good that I made some similar purchase decisions over the past year when I got back into my home studio as a hobby (expensive hobby!). Just finished making my bass traps and acoustic panels so I think I'm almost close to getting it where I want it to be.
this was one of the best home studio tour I've seen..... and the sad thing about it(in the very best way possible on Reid's part) was, it was done by a puppet, very good video Reid... but I have to say it kinda was a low key flex on em though lol... You could go back though and point out the things that you feel those that don't have that kind of budget could buy and keep - let's say their studio setup under 1500 - 2500 dollars so that the little guys can have some where to start before they go crazy trying to copy or think they have to mimic your exact setup.
For your portable set-up, the IK iLouds will fit in your bag along with all that stuff. I refuse to put my most expensive/delicate equipment in main luggage, but I was easily able to get my laptop, interface, headphones, controller and speakers in a carry-on rucksack. I really want to get the iLoud MTMs next, although they are a bit bigger.
macs are known to overheat. LOLs. I recently bought used 2013. Don't forget to open the bottom case and blow out the fans with canned air from the fan fins. Also probably repaste the heatsink with artic silver thermal paste. Overheat of the laptop could protentially messed up your screen with staingate. I hope apple has fixed that in the newer models. Also careful with buying screw drivers from ebay. They strip the screws. Pay more for the better quality screw drivers so they don't strip the macs screws. lesson learned these past weeks of messing with them.
For budget home studio folks, look for used Panamax Home Theater Power Conditioners...much better value than "music" oriented ones and they are rack mountable. They normally cost a lot more than "music" ones when new but used, people don't know what to make of it so you can usually find a $400 one for $50.00-$100 and have way more features.
one thing is missing , if you have ROLI Keyboard , and/or fingerboard for slide & glide , your studio looks professional & your production includes emotions in tracks .
I own two 2-channel Neve 1073 DPA's (Pre only/No EQ's). The closest Neve 1073 plugins are UAD, Slate and Kush in my opinion. I never try to copy settings though. I just use my ears to dial in the same tone and vibe and those companies haven't let me down.
sad when you only have a computer, cheap audio interface, midi keys, headphones and a few vst plugins. life in Russia, what could be better😒 Nice studio bro, hope someday to collect at least part of this)
Vintech, Tube-tech classic setup you have great taste! Like your setup I would get the Focal Trio11Be's instead of the ATC's but that's just my personal taste. Great job showing your setup man! Your right the new Apollo X sounds amazing
Thanks again for the knowledge you share. I have a question regarding gain staging and mixing. I do most of my work in the box, and i use vst plugins to play instrument, so i was wondering if you usually reduce the plugin output so the track hits -18dbfs before converting midi to audio or you convert and then use a gain utility or trimmer to reduce it to -18dbfs since most of vst plugging play hot signals?
Acoustic treatment/studio foam can honestly make or break a recording and mix. Even the house brand that Guitar Center carries made a substantial difference for my home studio.
I WISH you had been around to teach Ed McMahon that intro for “Heeeeeeere’s Johnny” You do it so well !!! Ps. Oh, and super great tutorials for us “learners” out there. Thank you !
Great Video! I got a question though. Do you know any kind MIDI controller or something like that Furman thing, where I can put close to the microphone to control my DAW. I mean, a controller that I can, play, stop, record, undo, redo, which has the smallest size possible, just with those buttons I've said, whitout pad or keys? I produce myself alone, anything like that would be very handy. Thank's puppet.
I love your videos, I see you have a window on your left side of your mixing position. I wanted to ask your opinion on it because I have a window on my wall and I currently have it behind my desk. would it be better to have the window on the side or behind?
Awesome studio! My wife and I have something like this only she does video and I do audio, so her room looks like a movie theater with 7.1 genelec surround and my room kind of looks like your A room with a photo backdrop added (that has acoustic blankets cut down the room size for recording) and I dumped my rack gear because I love the apollo unison pres with the Townsend Labs sphere mic modeling, so I can have the same signal chain from anywhere in the world with a twin. But enough blabbering - QUESTION: Do your led light bulbs, in the ceiling fan, buzz slightly? I tried several bulbs and all buzz. I even had an electrician come out with no success. If they don't, what's the brand and model?
What was the main reason for switching from warm audio vocal chain to vinteck audio ?? Please do answer in UK I couldn’t find vinteck but warm audio. I have seen the videos but not sure why you have switched??
is it wrong that im a full grown man and i wait for the "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiits" and puppet rise up at the start of every video like a big kid looool :D (also quality and straight up no bs perfect videos tho lol )
@Reid Stefan I know my comment may not get answered but, how is the capability of your Apollo Twin with your Razer Laptop? For example, have you had any driver issues, sound bugs, etc.? Being that it is a Windows instead of Mac OS.
if you raise the laptop slightly so the cold AC air flows *past* it, it will work even better. Most of the cooling process is moving heat away, not just pushing cold air on something
Nope just gotta get a adapter if you have mini HDMI sometimes laptops do or thunderbolt to HDMI for macs. ^^ Then go to settings displays and there should be the second display if not there is a option change display settings on windows. for Mac its settings display. ^^
When the hand started pointing that’s when I realized he IS the realest puppet in the game
Naw when he lifted the dinner table up and down thats when i knew "realest puppet...in the game."
Sorry guys, but he actually IS real !!!
I saw him near 4th & Vine getting flowers the other day !!! 😂
Your whole house is a studio....you are living in the mix!

Why do you use a laptop on the floor instead of a desktop pc? It’s makes for easier upgrading, like ram/memory space/ etc.
"buy test, return"
online reviews and comparisons on forums are still a big help in the long run, and not just in music production at that

Whiteboard power! Totally agree on how helpful it can be to organize your work flow.
That second monitor exclusively for spectral analyzers... I love it.

I'm an ole G Reid, getting back to it. You're inspiring, thanks much for the time you've put in to all your content.
