Impressive.
That guide for the tap & die set is brilliant out of the box thinking.
I was half joking about the frame jig and silver brazing, but if you can get yourself a welder to practice brazing on broken cheap fillet brazed frames, who knows?
I'm really happy for you mate. You're channel is going from strength to strength.
Cheers Badger! The die I have for 1 1/8” has a welded on guide for the steerer so that’s where the idea came from ☺️
Ooh, very nice. Now you can make replacement plastic parts in different colours to match anodised metal parts!
Always possible! Might be a bit easier painting the parts though 😅
About 27 yrs ago my shifter lever on my Peugeot broke …the simplex one I found a company sold me a block of nylon and made a shifter unbelievable the tech we have today ….let’s go take it to the limit 😎
You machined a complete block of Nylon down? Nice!
Easy he says! Most of what you said went right over my head 😂
I've been toying with the idea for ages this one sounds just the ticket and price sounds good! Really good.
Yeah I think it’s a great price for the possibilities it unlocks!
Little tip use brims instead of rafts they are allot easier to remove. Also you can get parts 3d printed in Aluminum for Not a crazy price I just learned. So I print bike parts in plastic test them out and then send my design out to be printed in aluminum! One last thing you can use Ultimaker Cura with a ender 3 its what the creality slicer is based off of and it's much better.
Thanks for the tip!
A 3d printer is an unexpectedly good tool for a hobbiest/diyer - once you have one it really opens up possibilities to problem solving.
I recommend dipping your toes in PETG as opposed to PLA - it is much better suited for functional parts (more durable, flexible under stress, heat resistant, also non-toxic compared to ABS).
Great video as always
Thanks! I ordered some PETG yesterday after looking at the different types. It’ll be interesting for me to see how different it prints.
Can't wait for metallic printing to become accessible - gonna print mech hangers XD
That would be AWESOME 👀
@@MonkeyShred was thinking about it today... reckon selective laser sintering might still be a ways off 😂
Makers Muse for you Old Boy 😉 Nice review thanks MS.
Thanks!
Nice work! Cool variation on your content too, if you ever decide to market the parts you make let us know - maybe stick something on retrobike? 👌
I’ve got some different filament to play around with so when I’ve worked that out I might just stick them on RB. Im sure there are a few that would find some bits useful!
I wanted to do some testing with carbon-fiber nylon filament - dubbed "black aluminum" and its possible use for bike parts
Damn. Never heard of that filament before? Sounds interesting.
At 8:40 boi I'm glad you managed to print that piece and save those brakes from becoming scrap.
Yeah, those collars 'break' all the time!
Yeah I’ve had a few comes through my garage. Should hopefully save throwing them all out now eh.
Loved that you were able to recreate the broken parts - having seen your short preview I thought you might be using a printer at your work - but this is cool. This printer looks like it uses thermoplastics. Not a fan of white ..can it handle pigmented thermoplastic polymers? I have lots of technical questions but I think they maybe better directed to the manufacturer. One of my friends has access to a metal printer... the possibilities....
Yeah it can print PLA/ ABS and PETG and you can get them in all different colours. I’ve just ordered some of the latter because it’s more suited to functional outdoors parts than the PLA.
Perfekt for the Shimano ST-6510 Caps which easily brake. There is even something on Thingyverse so you don't have to modell them on your own.
I think it’ll be good for a lot of shifter pods! I know I’ve had plenty missing the caps or pods.
Dude this is sweet! Congrats and looking forward to what you'll come up with.
Cheers Fozzy!
They are amazingly useful. I used mine the other day to fix our shower rail. The world's your oyster when you get better with the modelling. I've been doing CAD/CAM for 20 odd years so felt I NEEDED to get a 3D printer 😄😄
I just need some modelling software on my PC at home now and I’ll be doing the same for everything that breaks 😂 What software do you use for models?
@@MonkeyShred Fusion 360. You can still get it free if you're just a hobbyist and it'll do everything you need. It shouldn't be that steep of a learning curve 👍
@@stuartmooreis ah awesome! I’ve been using Inventor at work but I know licensing for that is big £££
Very interesting. You are one smart guy.
Haha thanks. I’m still learning a lot for the 3D modelling though!
Welcome to a whole new rabbit hole!
You have designed some nice parts!
For outdoor applications I recommend checking out PETG filament, PLA will deteriorate under UV-light.
Do you know if particular colors are more resistant?
@@KarlosEPM Concerning UV-light the less color pigments the better. Thus clear PETG should be the strongest.
Thanks! I ordered some black PETG yesterday after seeing some recommendations and reading a bit more in to it ☺️
I spend too much time shouting at my normal printer. I can't imagine this surviving the "thrown out the window" test!!
😂 yeah best not launch one of these out the window.
very cool, it would be interesting to see how durable the parts you printed out are, would be interested in an update after 'X' amount of time, keep us posted...
I guess the next toy would be a printer to create decals for you yeah?
or a CAD/CAM milling machine lol
Well the PLA isn’t seen as ‘ideal’ for functional outdoor parts so I’ve ordered some PETG that’s been recommended. I’ll be able to try some bits out then.
Any chance you could upload the Raleigh bomber chain guard to thingyverse please
Im trying to print tpu elastomers for my bad quality 25 year old suntour forks.
Its hilariously time wasteful nonsense
Not working out too well then?
cool
It is! Thanks.
Any chance you could throw up the thumbie cap files? Funny enough i got some recently missing the caps and i wanna see if my buddy could print them for me
I’ve seen folks use RIT fabric dye to alter the plastic color of things like action figures. I’d be curious to know if these parts can stand up to the same treatment, if being limited to white isn’t the ideal.
You can get filament in different colours and I believe you can paint them. It’s not limited to white ☺️
Mister this is very immpressive
Thanks for posting
Thanks for watching!
Looks pretty good, and I love the fact of the easy assembly - no need to be an engineer 😂 by the way, something is wrong with the white balance on your camera, it shifts between normal, and then green tint.
I used two different cameras 😅 my LEDs might be playing with the colour indoors too - they’re aqua.
You have to be able to design and draw the component first, printing is the easy part.
Well yeah - that’s a given.
Tops
Now all we need is custom colours and logos then you can sell them on your eBay hope you and the kitty's ok ps do you accept friend on Facebook 😁✌️😉
I barely use Facebook. Literally only have it for the marketplace now. 😅
