  • Armenia is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and it is home to a wealth of history like the last standing Pagan temple on the ground of the former Soviet Union called Temple of Garni. Also in close vicinity is the stunning Geghard Monastery which was built in the 4th century and carved literally out of the mountainside. If you are traveling to Armenia, you cannot miss these incredible historical sites. You can easily visit both in a day trip from Yerevan or stay overnight in the town of Garni. I hope you guys enjoy this video and a big thank you to my friend Gagik for being my local guide for the day!

I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. Geghard Monastery is different from the Western Gothic design but the thing they share in common is the light which bathes them. When you step inside it, you have the feeling like you’re in the presence of God. This is the nearest thing to heaven we’ll experience in this mortal life. You never forget the impact the place has upon you when you depart just as you do when you enter its precincts. That does stand out about Armenia.

This is really nothing . Armenia was three times bigger and used to have one of the most beautiful city in the world if not the most; that is the city of Ani now in Turkey ( called city of 1001 churches ) which was their old capital and was one of the biggest cities in the world.
Armenian architecture is what contributed to the development of Gothic and Romanesque structures. Ani cathedral is a perfect example. The reason why you don't hear about Armenia mentioned in archeology nor their history was because of the genocide of 1915, and ever since then everything about Armenia has been downplayed

Many years ago I saw the Atom Egoyan film "Calendar", and it made a big impression on me. I like his films anyway, but this film had the added bonus of beautiful shots of old Armenian churches (and a pagan temple 😊) set amongst wild and remote landscapes. And two months of the calendar are right here! This is what I was really hoping to see when I found out you were going to Armenia, and you've done a brilliant job. I still want to go and see it for myself though! You even included a free Russian lesson, I am completely spoiled today 😊

This is a very impressive day trip. I didn't know much about Armenia other than it existed as an entity for a long time. The temple is something I never expected to be so well preserved. Geghard Monastery may have started as a hidden church but at some point go big or go home definitely took hold. It is simply spectacular and the aerial shots show the scope of the complex. This was a great taste of history and your meal looked восхитительный. Have a good one.

Wow...Absolutely AMAZING video! Such a pleasure to watch!👌Great exposure to Armenian delicious cousine, people & ancient history. The pagan Greco-Roman temple and the Christian monastery were such lovely sites. The monastery was carved in the stone, just like Petra in Jordan, absolutely incredible. Shout-out to Gagik for being such a likeable person & a great tour guide. He reminds me of Gagik Melikyan, a famous Armenian professor from CSUN where I got my MS in Chemistry in 2010. CSUN still has the biggest Armenian student population in the USA. I graduated from professor Thomas Minehan's research group. Thank you Alina, your channel truly is a GREAT WATCH.

I have an Armenian colleague and she is lovely, she always used to bring chocolate coated dried fruits and wine before Covid when we were working from the office

Keghard is otherworldly, you really feel a sense of holiness or God standing there. There are little crevices where they used to climb from one floor to the other. “Azat” means freedom, so it’s in Freedom Valley. Another unique place to go is Amberd. It literally means fort in the clouds. You will feel you have arrived only one step from heaven.
