    I spent 4 days in Yerevan in 2019, and loved it. I would go back any time, and Armenia is on my list to spend a month in when I retire (next year, hopefully). I climbed Mt Aragats and one fascinating part of that was spending all day with my guide - a 20 something, well educated local. I got an insight into his generation's view on things like Russia, Turkey & Azerbaijan, particularly useful after what has happened since then. .

      @Henzo88 I spent 4 years in Azerbaijan a few years ago. I have never seen or heard any racism talks there even in our sharpest political conversations. Meantime Armenian taxi driver in Moscow spent 34 out of 35 mins drive talking about Azeris. There was so much hate. You should have seen his face when I told him I live and work in Azerbaijan 😁

    • @GG-zw6rm
      @GG-zw6rm 3 года назад +2

      @Henzo88 Had no idea about it. Again I have never felt any racism toward anyone in the company with ratio of 80% international staff to local. You can’t just be racist toward Armenians and not to be racist to others. If you are racist to specific nation it most likely means there was a history of negative relations between the countries. I know there was one. I can’t judge much since I don’t know much about it.

    I visited Yerevan twice back in 2015. I'm planning on retiring to Yerevan in summers (May to October). Things I'd like to know:
    1. How much is a service laundry in Yerevan including wash, fold, and ironing? Is laundry charged by article of clothing or by kilo?
    2. How much does a house cleaner cost in Yerevan per hour?
    3. What are the best areas of Yerevan for ex-pats?
    4. What is the best medical insurance for ex-pats in Yerevan?
    5. Is Airbnb the best site to rent a flat in Yerevan for 6 months?
    6. Do most Airbnb flats in Yerevan include at least a weekly cleaning and change of linen and towels?
    7. Is it worth learning Armenian or are ex-pats better off learning Russian?

      @@arthurm.578 In medieval written sources the name of the city where Azerbaijani Turks had been the only inhabitants since ancient times, is mentioned as Ravan, Iravan or Irivan. At the begining of XIX century after the Russian troops occupation the name of the city was written as Erivan, later on it was called Yerevan for the first time in the history of the twentieth century, after its conversion to the capital of Armenian state. Armenian historians are trying to bind the name of the city (now being called Yerevan) with the name of Erebun Fortress (Irpuni) built during the ruling period of Urartu Argistinin Tsar I (in 782 BC). Erabuni Fortress was buil only for the purpose of military fortifications and city infrastructure was never formed around it.
      As the Urartunians had nothing to do with the Armenians, an ancient city of Irevan had neither spatial nor historical connection with present Iravan city. There was a significant time distance between the Iravan settlement, which was an ancient dwelling and formed as a city in the Middle Ages and Erabuni fortress revealed during the archaeological excavations in 1950. Only in the second half of XX century the territory of Ganli Tepe (hill) where Erabuni fortress was located, was annexed to the suburban area. According to the found cuneiform and belonging to the Urartunians times it has been found out that the vally of Aghri (the left bank of the river Araz and down stream of the river Arpachay) used to be the country of Aza people untill the area was occupied by the Urartus in the first quater of VIII century BC.
      Originally the name of the city Irevan and majority of hydronium (river, lake, spring, etc.), oronium (mountain, pass, valley, plain, etc.), oychonium (dwellings, streets, blocks, etc.) around it and being closely tied to Azerbaijani Turks language, once again shows that this area used to be ancient settlements of Azerbaijanis. There is not any sample belonging to the Armenians among the artifacts found during the archeological excavations in the territory of the city Iravan so far. During 1200 years--from the period of the Urartuians collapse till the establishment of the Arabian caliphte - the name of this settlement was not mentioned in any sources. Some Armenian historians acknowledge this fact objectively.

    Wow, Alina! Once again you shared a keeper. Looking forward to more of this city. I knew nothing about where you are here, but I appreciate especially all the information you supplied in this video. Quite interesting about the food, definitely some things I have never had and it is great in your explanations of those. Yeah, watch the wine there, the older it is appears to be the stronger side. I know also you love to climb steps, but do take your time with those, OK? Great times with you are always a special treat! Cheers!!

    09:09 - Yerevan with a subway putting so many much bigger and "richer" European capitals behind such as Belgrade, Zagreb or Bratislava without metro. I love the Caucasus. Such a unique and interesting region. Time to visit after the amazing experience with Georgia.

    Alina's video truly is a TRIBUTE to the city of Yerevan & its beautiful architecture, local art, market, wine, brandy, cousine & rich ancient history. A roadmap to find & enjoy the best places in town. The cascade complex is by far my favorite & the most iconic landmark in the city. The choir performance at the Cathedral was heavenly. The dancing fountains & the gathering of the people at night at Republic Square was an awesome experience to watch. Alina thank you for sharing this great adventure. Wishing you many blessings and more iconic places to find ahead.
