Wow! What a shame some books etc couldn’t be salvaged before rot descended on this once nice big house. I hate waste also. I’m an avid reader and a book collector and it breaks my heart to see them rotting away. How did the place become such a mess I wonder. Nice property was probably once their refuge from the crazy world. You really should wear a mask in there. Between the black mold the circulating dust from animal droppings and other rotted things you don’t want circulating in your lungs. I appreciate seeing places like this but please don’t risk your health. Thanks Brandon for this cool explore. Be well and safe.

They say hoarding is a mental illness but what if if it's books neatly stored on shelves, I know they didn't read them all (not enough time in a life to do it and take showers too 😉), even had Pinocchio at 17:57.
The roof had to have been bad when they left or was sabotaged.
Thanks for the tour Brandon and do be careful on those long time water saturated floors!

  • @cruizzer77

I think we can assume that a woman of Dutch origin who was born in 66 lived there, however interestingly there's little evidence that anybody else did, neither a husband nor a family, especially surprising it is because the house is so big. Some are not clearly visible but basically all of the clothes that are could be women's clothes I think. And I'm pretty sure she was actually teaching German, the first German book I spotted was at 5:47 "Wie Geht's?" which means "How are you doing?" and is a basic German language course. There are many more German books visible later for which to read your German must be pretty good. I don't think that German is spoken anywhere in the Netherlands but Dutch and German are very close and it is not too difficult for the speaker of one language to learn the other. Therefore it makes sense she teaches German as there would not be many jobs for teaching Dutch in Canada I think. Furthermore it would be very plausible too that she might even be a native speaker if her mom or dad had been German. In general it isn't too surprising that a teacher has a whole private library, is it?
However this is another case that lets me wonder what happened. With her born in 66 means that either something has happened to her or she is living elsewhere now. It almost makes me think that she might not have returned from a visit at home in Europe for whatever reason. Maybe she is alive but unable to return to Canada and is still paying the bills from abroad, probably not knowing at all what state the house is in now.

I think that's the first explore that made me physically ill. That is a massive and eclectic book collection. Those racks and racks of really fine color pens (one you called makeup) suggests children were encouraged to read and express themselves in art. There were a lot of children's book and art in nearly every room. That multivolume set of the Mahabharata downstairs was lovely to see and likely quite expensive.

Always crazy when the power is still on. That type of decay has a really gross funky smell. Those markers stood for me right off as well! I agree about up and leaving because there is so much left behind. It had a great late 60's modern kitchen. Brown Bombers hahahahaha. That first bath room EEEK ! Yeah that container in that room is full of water. So many books in this place, at least they read lol. I wanted one of those slimline CD players 12:36 . Love Pandas; my first stuffed toy was a panda lol. Holycow that first room on lower level. It always amazing how fast some of these places can decay! You probably should have had a mask- eek! Go to the GYM lol, I am back to walking 1.5 hours a day. I think I have had some of those books. Yikes that fridge,, they must have fled with that much food left behind. This place definitely should be razed. That was a cool hot-tub. Another awesome explore Brand ~ Keep Orange Crushing It!

I think they packed a suitcase and flew to the Netherlands, quickly, unexpectedly. And they stayed there. I was so disheartened to see those old books in the bedroom next to the bathroom so rotting away. They don’t make things like that anymore, so once they are gone, they are gone forever. As far as the house, I wonder if it was constructed cheaply, why the roof was caved in like that. I think it was built about 1960 or maybe 1970. Maybe it never received any maintenance. If it was built in 1970, it would be ready for a new roof about 1990 or 95, and maybe it didn’t get it. Once it gets a hole or a leak, decay takes over quickly. Weird situation. It was a beautiful house in a rustic, private location. What made the occupants just leave? And who is paying the electric bill and why? It is a wonder that an electrical fire hasn’t destroyed the rest, but of course it is rather damp in there-it may not burn it’s so wet! The animals of the forest have had a cozy nest for ten years-lucky them!

I feel like the occupants truly cared about the home. The neat organization of all the books says they must have been particular people. My guess is they went back home to Europe on a trip and passed away somehow. Car accident, who knows. With no family in Canada to tend for the house, it just went abandoned. As far as the power, maybe the bill is being auto drafted from a Canadian bank account that was never closed out.
