- This is just a little video made to contextualize some rare footage we found of Dee Dee Ramone in 1969 being filmed in New York for a documentary about drugs. The footage shows that no matter what Dee Dee was always Dee Dee. Punk Media Research Collection.
THANK YOU DINO! I am honored to be part of this. Dee Dee Ramone is the whole reason I started taking photos. He was and remains the MOST handsome man I ever met or saw. He had such great charisma, his own charm and so funny, so smart. But never knew it.
We had fun hanging out when the Ramones were unknown outside of a small circle of people in NYC. Their first west coast tour was challenging for him due to his addiction. He was trying to stay clean. Poor baby.
Dee Dee Ramone was so special. Whatta talented, sweet, but ultimately sad man.
THE RAMONES STARTED PUNK! Malcolm McLaren created the Sex Pistols, after knowing (briefly managing) the Dolls and seeing the Ramones perform in NYC. RAMONES WERE FIRST. Johnny Rotten is a ... I won't swear, but I knew him too. Yech!
Joe Strummer was great, though. He'd tell ya the Johnny Ramone encouraged the Clash to play. I loved photographing The Clash, especially in England. All started with Johnny, Dee Dee, Joey and Tommy Ramone. G-d bless their souls.
Those were the days and nights, my friends. I knew they'd end, which is why I photographed as much as I could. Rock on!
WOW, seeing Dee Dee at 17😲. Now if only Marty McFly, was with the camera man, to tell him "Keep rolling on the kid, he's gonna be one of the Kings of Rock n Roll"

And of course Detroit...Marky was paying homage to Iggy & the Stooges. People forget about the Stooges & of course Iggy but they were first. 1969 okay, all across the USA Another year for me and you, another year with nuthin to do. A lot of music fans didn’t like that song, those lyrics but that song, those lyrics were punk rock. Nobody knew it back then. I’m sorry Marky but that was punk rock. Nobody knew what it was and they didn’t like it, except me & you. Think about it, how depressing., another year with nothing to do? That’s punk rock in a nut shell. So maybe it was a 4 minute song, they just stretched it out but the lyrics were rather short and simple, and to the point, then again, all of rock is like that, song writing. I could be wrong but the essence of punk rock is that the masses don’t like it. Ask yourself, what’s punk rock? Simple music a lot of people don’t like. And that’s okay, we like it. Others may have better & different ideas
