Kings Island is where I grew up. Visiting this park every year was the highlight of my Summer. So many memories with my family were made here. Thanks so much for reminding me of an unforgettable childhood 👍
This video showed up in my recommended videos and I'm so happy it did!! I grew up in West Chester, OH close to the Mason border and KI was 10 minutes away from my house. It was the early-mid 90's and I will always remember the excitement I felt in my stomach when I saw my mom putting her "mom shorts" and fanny pack on because I knew we were going to KI that day. My very first job when I was 16 was a photo booth attendant at Vortex (RIP). I spent all of my teen summer years at the park every day. Watching this made me feel warm and fuzzy, nostalgic and also made me cry. KI is forever my home park and my happy place. Now I get to take my daughter and have her enjoy the park too as I still live in the greater Cincinnati area. Thank you for making this incredible documentary!!!!
This was one of the few pieces by any RUclipsr that I anticipated when you released them weekly. All of your content is top notch but KI has been my home park since I was born so this documentary was like a trip down memory lane. My earliest memory being seeing Smurfette and whoever was under the costume remembering me from the year before lol. Probably 1985-86. I have now watched this as a weekly series and as a complete documentary. Very well done!
WOW! EMPRESSED! This is my home theme park. I was only 11 when it opened. I remember Coney Island as well and riding the shooting star at a very young age with my dad, and mom wasn't happy. She tried again that same scenario at 12 when I wanted to ride the twin racer; again I won and got to ride. Anyhow a very well put together documentary of now my favorite park in Ohio. While once Cedar Point, we are now complete with our Giga coaster, Orion and I can save my gas and a 4 hour drive. At 61, I'm still up for a thrill.👍

Ugh I miss Vortex so much. It was my favorite ride there. I was so upset when they announced its retirement. RIP Vortex! I’ll forever have so many great memories riding you!
We need to start a campaign to bring an RMC/Vekoma Vortex reborn to the park. The land is open and they could use a shorter inversion machine to fill that hole. They will probably end up with a B&M wing/drop coaster on that land eventually
It’s surreal to me that in just 4 weeks time, I will take my first steps back into Kings Island, flanked by my friends after 18 long years, and having lost 115 lbs. I’ve worked hard to get here, and I’m ready to experience the park once again, this time as a Cedar Fair park. I love watching this documentary to get my hyped up for one of my favorite places to go when I was young. I may be older, but after 18 long years, my time has finally come. ❤️
@@rdm3815amazing. My first ride was on Flight of Fear (I know, why not Orion or Diamondback, but those came later on) and when I went on the ride back in 2005, I got ejected off the ride because the restraint could not safely close. This time, it fit perfectly and I felt redeemed. In fact, I even screamed “Sweet Revenge!” as the ride shot me in. I would ride every coaster except the coasters in Planet Snoopy, Invertigo (because I don’t like going backwards on rollercoasters) and Adventure Express as it was still being worked on for Adventure Port. Diamondback became my favorite coaster for Kings Island, unseating Flight of Fear. The day ended fantastic and I look forward to going back next year.
The most comprehensive, engaging and educational documentary on my favorite amusement park. And now I learn it’s yours too! I appreciate your well researched and classy videos!

King's Island just blew me away this weekend. We went for Haunt on Sat night and Sunday night. It had been raining on and off most of Saturday, but they had full operations with max trains on every coaster (except Banshee which had two trains damaged in a collision on Sat). All night Saturday and all day Sunday, we were able to walk on to any major coaster in the park with the longest wait being Sat night for the Beast for a 10 min wait. KI's coaster collection is incredible, with three uniquely good wood coasters, a top tier B&M collection with Orion, Diamondback and Banshee, and great supporting coasters in The Bat, Flight Of Fear, Backlot, Adventure Express and Invertigo. Hell, they have a world-class kiddie coaster collection with the new shuttle coaster, a kiddie invert and a wood coaster. I can't recommend a visit to KI enough.
Very detailed and well researched! I’m glad you put all the segments together. I love videos like this about the history of parks and am looking forward to more. Well done, Chris!
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together, I have been going to the park my entire life and currently live just 10 minutes away. Lived in Cincinnati from 1983 to 2014.after coming from Holland . Breathed coney island's water park growing up, with my mom and four brothers endless water fun, all day long. Kings island was also a regular summer visit and when paramount took over I applied and worked as security both hot summers daytime, walking around about every square inch of the park and worked 3rd shift, checked ride, building Park alarms checks etc with the park police, (weekends , bonus pay, down season months while attending college in Athens). Kings Island is one of those parks whose history is some of the most fascinating out there. That flood in 1968 was a blessing in disguise if you think about it because we probably wouldn't have this amazing place had it not happened. I can't wait to see which park you'll make one of these documentaries for next. I am sure it will be just as if not more interesting to watch as this one or the one you made previously about Six Flags Magic Mountain.
I am currently working on an Astroworld documentary and then we got 50th anniversaries coming up...great adventure 2024, kings Dominion 2025, six flags great america 2026
Grew up going to King's Island and in 2004 moved to my mothers and we always went to Kings Dominion. How crazy I didn't know at the time they were both Paramount parks! My all time favorite ride is the Son of the Beast. I also got to ride Hypersonic XLC many times. Amusement parks are my favorite thing to do. The nostalgia and carefree fun for a day, if I was rich I would go to every park in the world!
Great job, I love kings Island and started in 1972 so I know all this history well. I still attend several times each year and look forward for the next new coaster!!
When I was growing up, I found myself spending at least one day every year down at Kings Island. As I went into the 90s and my teens, it became the pinnacle of my summertime when I would make my way down to Kings Island. After 2005, I found myself physically unable to go back to Kings Island after gaining so much weight. I knew that I would be unable to ride rollercoasters because of it, and it depressed me because of how much I loved it. This year, with many reasons for me to do so, I began a journey to make significant weight loss, and in the span of 4 months, I lost 75 lbs, dropping from 325 down to 250, and I am continuing my weight loss journey as well. I’ve already decided to go back to Kings Island, even though I’m now in my 40s. I am so excited to go back to Kings Island , even if it’s my last time to go ride rollercoasters. I have loved this documentary, as it covers the history of this legendary park, who has had such a history in my past. Chris, you did a great job with this documentary, and you gave it such comprehensive coverage. I’ve been a subscriber for a long time now, and your videos are great. Just goes to show that people named Chris, just are as awesome as you might think. -Chris Parson
Hey man! Congrats on the weight loss!! You should be very proud of that!! I myself have gone from about 305 down to 225. I'm 58, but still very interested in riding coasters. My issue currently is not having the $$ to travel to parks. Also, I live in Winnipeg, Canada, and my closest park is Valleyfair in Minneapolis - about a 7 hour drive away!
My mom worked at Kings Island back in the summer of '73 and '74 between her junior and senior year of high school and right after graduating. She was on the crew for The Racer and The Monster.
I loved this docu. Kings Island had always been my favorite home park. I'm lucky enough to live in-between Kings Island and Cedar Point. Can you please do the same type of docu for Cedar Point? that would be amazing, thank you!
Very well researched, great video. Brought back some memories. I recall not liking the Paramount theming. It was like walking through a big ad, and felt cheap. I’m so glad they changed hands again and got through the pandemic OK. It’s a fixture of the Cincinnati area.
THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL VIDEO! Born and raised in deerfield township...and being born in 65 my parents took us on opening day 72 ive been back every year. Glad to see they want to go back in time with some attractions. All of us kids on our street would save our money all year long. We would pick a day and a parent would drop us off a half hour before the park opened and when we paid and went through the gates...we ran screaming and yelling with joy. If we split into groups we would make sure to be at the eiffel at 12 and 3. My dad would be waiting in the lot to pick us up after a long crazy fun day. Oh glory days they were. I miss so many of the old rides but time waits for no one.
I grew up going to KI. I loved roller coasters so much but I can’t ride them anymore, they make me sick, the ones that go upside down more so. I will always ride the Beast no matter what though. I ride vicariously through videos like this!
I had no idea that Kings Island was first known as Coney Island. It's true, you learn something every day. And I also never knew that Kings Island had such a tragic past. This documentary is very thorough. Thanks for the content.
Thank you for this great video on the history of Coney Island and Kings Island. I only got to visit one time while I was staying in Cincinnati to go to the Kentucky Derby. I really liked the park and it’s collection of roller coasters. I prefer wooden coasters and was really impressed from riding the Beast. It was a great ride and I loved the length of the ride. I have ridden many wooden coasters around the country and place the Beast as one of my favorite coasters. I am glad to see they have continued to invest in keeping it running and hope to get back to ride it again.
I’ve already watched this masterpiece like 5 times prior to it being one whole video but yeah sure I’ll watch it again, why not? For real though, I love the documentary. I’m incredibly happy to call Kings Island my home park, and I love hearing about the park’s rich history
Grew up having season tickets every year to King's Island. My brother and I and our friends had so much fun and so many wonderful memories there. Especially riding the Beast.
this is fantastic! kings island is my new home park and my first real season pass (my family has bought a few for our vacation weeks before because it was cheaper haha). so excited for the 2023 season! 💕
Awesome video as always brother! You really did my old homepark and favorite place on Earth justice! The Beast is true coaster bliss imo, hence the profile pic 😂🤘
Ahhhhhh god I can't wait for April! I'm so proud to call KI my home park. It's such a beautiful, fun, magical place. Hope to see you all there in a few short months!
I remember going to Kings Island every Labor Day from the ages of 5-11 because the company my grandmother worked for Kenner Toys would pay for tickets for their employees and family. And then years later a company that I worked for Data General in North Carolina did the same thing for Kings Dominion in Virginia.
I absolutely love your park history docs! Also can we just take a moment on how kings island took such care in honoring Coney Island’s history and importance to the area. The complete opposite happing with Cedar Fair and Geauga Lake…..
@@AirtimeThrills if you ever decide to do one on either GL or Cedar Point or the history of the amusement park industry as a whole and need help with research/research materials would be happy to help. I like to think of myself as an amateur historian on the subjects, and have been working on writing a book on the topic. I know in the grand scheme of things I’m just a random nobody but it’s where my passion is and has been since the age of 5 way back in 1990! Growing up in Ohio and living down the street from where a former park was, it’s hard not to be
@@AirtimeThrills oh without a doubt. Worked there one season and spent half the summer working in “town hall” and you wouldn’t believe the things I had to know and memorize just in case some weird questions were asked.
I grew up about 2 hours from Cedar Point so that was our go-to every summer. One summer, I convinced my parents to make the drive to King's Island instead. I loved it but the rest of my family preferred Cedar Point, so we only went to KI the one time.
I’d love to see you do a similar vid about Kennywood and its long history. I always loved Kennywood since the first day I visited in the early 2000s as a wee kid. They even featured Garfield for a while and converted an old west dark ride to Garfield’s Nightmare until the 2010s when they turned it back to an old west theme.
Thanks! Yeah the research is the hardest part and takes months. I would love to do Cedar Point but that history goes back so far it would be a helluva challenge
The King Cobra is an underrated gem. The Mantis at Cedar Point by comparison was, yes bigger, but way too uncomfortable and kinda sloggy in pacing. King Cobra had a nice simple but effective layout.
It was OK but it did have a major problem with 1 of its turns. The 180 turn before the dual corkscrew was a high speed, sharp, unbanked turn, felt like I was being thrown from the car. Always hurt my back. Otherwise a fun coaster.
I've lived by kings island my whole life and couldn't even count how much I've gone. thank you for making this, it really brought me back man.

Thanks for the ride down memory lane.
Been waiting all year for this!!!
The loss of Vortex was easily one of the biggest and most emotional losses in the coaster community.
I felt the same way. It was my favorite coaster in the park.
Smoothest coaster I’ve ever ridden and I’ve easily been to 30 different parks. Definitely a loss.
@@SSGTStrykerbro has never ridden diamondback

Congrats on the weight loss and thanks for watching! Glad ylu enjoyed it
I love Kings Island I've been going for 36 years and I really enjoyed this video, brings back many memories
Thanks! Cedar Point would be a beast of a project but one I would be willing to take on at some point
Very well researched, great video. Brought back some memories. I recall not liking the Paramount theming. It was like walking through a big ad, and felt cheap. I’m so glad they changed hands again and got through the pandemic OK. It’s a fixture of the Cincinnati area.
So sweet ❤ love checking in on your family.
Thanks for watching, and glad this can dig up some of the old memories
Yo you did a amazing job on this documentary. I watched the whole thing and thats rare. ✊🏾
I appreciate you sticking thru to the end!
I've been waiting for this!
I grew up going to KI. I loved roller coasters so much but I can’t ride them anymore, they make me sick, the ones that go upside down more so. I will always ride the Beast no matter what though.
I ride vicariously through videos like this!
This is so well done. You've gained a subscriber.
Thanks for watching!
This was awesome! Good work
Thanks!
I was bored today so i decided to watch this entire 2 hour long video in one sitting, great documentary.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it
8:12 Awesome Behind The Scenes Look About Kings Island Theme Park. Thanks Mate. X
I had no idea that Kings Island was first known as Coney Island. It's true, you learn something every day. And I also never knew that Kings Island had such a tragic past. This documentary is very thorough. Thanks for the content.
What a great video man! Nice job!
Thanks for watching!
Great video!!! Long time no see!!!
Thanks Kia!
Thank you for this great video on the history of Coney Island and Kings Island. I only got to visit one time while I was staying in Cincinnati to go to the Kentucky Derby. I really liked the park and it’s collection of roller coasters. I prefer wooden coasters and was really impressed from
riding the Beast. It was a great ride and I loved the length of the ride. I have ridden many wooden coasters around the country and place the Beast as one of my favorite coasters. I am glad to see they have continued to invest in keeping it running and hope to get back to ride it again.
Thanks for watching!
I’ve already watched this masterpiece like 5 times prior to it being one whole video but yeah sure I’ll watch it again, why not?
For real though, I love the documentary. I’m incredibly happy to call Kings Island my home park, and I love hearing about the park’s rich history
That's awesome, and you're very lucky to have this as a HP
Yeah you’re right. You should be grateful to have this as your home park. Mine is Michigans adventure 😅😢😂
Nice! Enjoy the park, there's nothing else out there really like it
Awesome video as always brother! You really did my old homepark and favorite place on Earth justice! The Beast is true coaster bliss imo, hence the profile pic 😂🤘
Thanks for watching!
Such a good video! Very nice job
I absolutely love your park history docs! Also can we just take a moment on how kings island took such care in honoring Coney Island’s history and importance to the area. The complete opposite happing with Cedar Fair and Geauga Lake…..
Thanks! Yep they definitely did well to honor its past
Growing up in Ohio and living down the street from where a former park was, it’s hard not to be
@@kandikidzora i really want to do cedar point but thats a whoooole lot of history lol
@@AirtimeThrills oh without a doubt. Worked there one season and spent half the summer working in “town hall” and you wouldn’t believe the things I had to know and memorize just in case some weird questions were asked.
@@AirtimeThrills it would be fun to see maybe 10-20 episodes and maybe make it a longer history but it is tiresome lol
very in depth documentary on my home park, good job
Absolutely a fantastic account of the history of this iconic park.
Well done 🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
Happy Holidays Airtime Thrills thank you for these videos they are very interesting when im off the za💯💚
Happy holidays! Thanks for watching
Merry Christmas Chris!
Merry Christmas!
Impressive work, happy to add a like and comment.
Thanks!
Nice, Awesome documentary on a fantastic park!
Thanks!
You’re talking too fast , well never mind 😅 I do too!!! Love this video! What a masterpiece!!! 🥰
I was at the media day for Banshee. It was really cold, and so so early. A day I won’t soon forget
Well done, and well researched
Thanks!
Great video!
Thanks!
Great work!
Thanks!
Hey Chris, I would love to see a six flags great adventure documentary as it had some interesting history!
Thats on my agenda next year for its 50th
I grew up about 2 hours from Cedar Point so that was our go-to every summer. One summer, I convinced my parents to make the drive to King's Island instead. I loved it but the rest of my family preferred Cedar Point, so we only went to KI the one time.
I’d love to see you do a similar vid about Kennywood and its long history. I always loved Kennywood since the first day I visited in the early 2000s as a wee kid. They even featured Garfield for a while and converted an old west dark ride to Garfield’s Nightmare until the 2010s when they turned it back to an old west theme.
I’m so happy my friends told me about this video when we were at kings island yesterday.
Well thank you to your friends for the plug
Well done. I know the research for this was probably mind numbing. Would love one day to see something like this done for cedar point!
Thanks! Yeah the research is the hardest part and takes months. I would love to do Cedar Point but that history goes back so far it would be a helluva challenge
This is awesome!
The King Cobra is an underrated gem. The Mantis at Cedar Point by comparison was, yes bigger, but way too uncomfortable and kinda sloggy in pacing. King Cobra had a nice simple but effective layout.
That vortex ad, "feel the grip of vortex before its too late"makes me sad I never got the chance to ride it
Ditto.😮 It sounded interesting, but I'm a Floridian.😅
@Leah Hilton I'm in Ohio. ]= cedar point and geauga lake was my main parks tho. Never been to kings island, the ride looked amazing tho
@@robw5741 yeah it did.
It was OK but it did have a major problem with 1 of its turns.
The 180 turn before the dual corkscrew was a high speed, sharp, unbanked turn, felt like I was being thrown from the car. Always hurt my back.
Otherwise a fun coaster.
