It's December 30th, 2021. Magic Mountain is closed today for rain, so that means I get a free day off of work. I watched this series as it came out just after I hired in. It's been 9 months now that I've worked at the park. So far, it's been a blast. It's weird how things line up, isn't it? It took the world coming to a complete stop and then slowly turning back on for me to step foot in the park that I've lived closest to for my entire life, and it wasn't even as a guest but as an employee. And still, it just so happened that the year I show up is the same as its 50th anniversary... not unlike when I visited my first theme park, Disneyland, for its own 50th anniversary 16 years ago. This year has been such a (for lack of a better term) rollercoaster for me, for the park, and for the world. It's only fitting then, that it would cap off an intense ride of 50 years for the park with the most. We'll see what 2022 has in store for me beginning my second year with the park, the world entering its 3rd year of covid, and Magic Mountain entering the next 50 years as the thrill capitol of the world.
We were passing by the " Future site of Magic Mountain" when we all yelled, pull in!!! We drove down Magic Mountain parkway, then, it was a wide swath of dirt. The tower was up, & seemed quite a distance away. I recall a huge American flag, waving proudly at the top. When it opened they're were Many visits, & wonderful times.......I remember seeing kc & the sunshine band in the amphitheater, & we're all impressed at such a great skilled, diverse band. THEY JAMMED!!!! What a great group.....My brother just sent me this vid. 2 days after, I came across old 8 mm film Rolls, marked Magic Mountain 1975. I can't wait to see them...Valencia has always been one of my Favorite location's. I love d land, & Knott's, but magic mountain has a feel, that I love even more... 👍 I'd rather work they're too!!! Lol 🎶
@Micycles very weird question: I went to six flags recently and ran into this hilarious ride op. He was playing drums with the gold rusher brake run and was one of the funniest ride ops I’ve met. He would shout things that got guests hyped for the ride and made people laugh. I was wondering if it was you. He said he was an enthusiast. The chances are crazy but I’m still wondering
@@Bellathebear777 I enjoyed your comment. I grew up just outside of New York City and have the same kind of amazing memories for Action Park and Six Flags Great Adventure, both parks in New Jersey. We never went to amusement parks regularly as kids. When I was an early teen my sister and I were basically best friends and our parents surprised us with season passes to six flags magic mountain for the summer. It was such an amazing summer and I always look back on the park with nostalgia.

I grew up with this park! When I celebreted my 10th birthday party there and as a teen went in many dates there! It was such a fun place! I worked for a company that had their company picnic there! As an adult it brought back all those happy memories! When I heard about the possible closure I was devasted! Even though I haven’t been to the park in years, it was a big part of my childhood and teen years!
This was a really good documentary. Growing up in Valencia, Magic Mountain was extremely close. I have fond memories of going there many times when I was younger. I haven't been since the late 2000's, but most of my memories of that place are from the 80's and 90's. Well done👍🏼
Merry Christmas! Thanks for this Christmas present! I don’t mind that it’s a re-wrapped compilation of a previous gift since it’s just that good. Keep up the good work, Airtime Thrills!
OUTSTANDING! I've been coming to the park since 1974, when my grandparents lived in Saugus. Thank you for your work and for the chance to relive memories of the early days!
Very well done, a lot of research was done for this video. My home park is Six Flags Great America, I first went there in the 70's. As a former employee from 1990-92, I noticed that theme parks, began catering to young people, and leaving family friendly rides and attractions behind. Back in the day if you had 3 or 4 rollercoasters, that was considered a lot. Since 2000 it seems that they have to have the biggest, and most of any park. Since then you have coaster enthusiasts, who travel to all parks to ride the newest coaster.
Thank you for all of your hard work!! We all appreciate your content so much, and I can speak for everyone when I say I can see the passion and heart you put into these videos. My passion and knowledge in this industry is solely fueled off of your content and I couldn't be more proud to say that!!
This has got to be one of the MOST THOROUGHLY researched documentaries I've watched to date. The old photos, videos, advertisements, commercials and newspaper articles is impressive to say the least. You even brought up information I had forgotten about. Keep up this awesome work!
Nothing will ever beat the Viper, for me. I love how you can just ride it over and over nowadays because it's so old... I was like 10 when it opened and it was the most intense coaster ever made basically, and the lines for it lasted forever... such fond memories of that park. Need to go again!
I remember when I was 10, in 1993, I waited with my sister and her boyfriend in line for Viper. I was so, so scared. 7 loops! I boarded the coaster, started freaking out, and they let me get off before we took off. I caused such a scene! I went the next year and was so proud of myself, and it cured me of fear of rollercoasters for the rest of my life. It was such a blast. To this day Batman and Ninja are my favourite rides at that park. My family always went to Red Robin after Magic Mountain. In Junior high, my friends and I all had season passes and our parents would argue over who would drive us this time. So many memories. My dad loved Knotts since his childhood, and I remember watching everyone go on corkscrew when I was too short. Southern California was such a great place to grow up in the 80's and 90's!
Chris, Thanks for bring back the memories. I've been going to SFMM since 1975, I rode Revolution in 77 and Colossus about a week after it open. I seen a lot of change and have rode every coaster that has come and go. This was amazing Video, Thanks again!

Freaking sweet documentary! Magic mountain has been my favorite park since I was in high school back in '92. You did an amazing job with this long form video, quilty is top notch! Would love to learn deep history for more parks. I could only imagine the difficulty to put this video together, but if I could give it a thousand thumbs up, I would. Thank you.
@@AirtimeThrills I wish you all the luck in the world. You definitely have a skill in research, editing and presenting these videos. I had never heard of your channel before this. You gained a subscriber and I can promise you there will be thousands more to come.
It would be (if even possible???)..Very difficult to find another Documented Coverage on the history of a theme park that comes close to matching this one....Amazing job👍💯
What an awesome documentary! Good job my dude! I can’t believe this doesn’t have 50M views. SFMM is a piece of history and is still at the top over 50 years later! 🇺🇸
Thank you for this journey. I was there in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I have not been back since. Wonderful memories there! I've driven by a couple of times realizing I'd probably not recognize it with all it's changes. Thank you again for sharing this. 🏍💨
Loved this documentary! By the time it was over I didn't realize 2 hours had already passed because it was that good and I was so invested, especially being a roller coaster enthusiast and a SoCal resident. It was awesome, not only to learn about Magic Mountain's history, but to go down memory lane and relive some of the moments you mentioned. I was actually there during my spring break in 1993 when TLC was supposed to perform and all I remember was all the chaos that happened and being terrified since I was only 15 at the time. After all the bad press, changes in ownership and management, and even a bankruptcy, I'm so glad that Magic Mountain not only survived, but continues to evolve and remain one of the top amusement parks with the best roller coasters in the world. Thank you for making this awesome documentary!
Phenomenal work on both this and the Kings Island documentary. I would love to see more of these. I have watched them both multiple times and find these histories fascinating.
This was a great documentary! It actually made me emotional since i grew up in LA and visited that park from the early 90s to early 2000s. In my 40s now living overseas… one day i’ll visit again
WOW.. WOW.. What an incredible documentary. I was born in the LA area in 1975. I visited the park regularly growing up, before moving away in 91.. There are so many rides that no longer exist that you brought back for me. I was just there for the opening weekend of Fright Fest with my little girl. She's finally tall enough to ride the 48 Inchers.. We loved your video. I can't imagine the amount of time to research and produce this epic.
I moved to Saugus in 1991 and Magic Mountain was not only the local theme park my friends and I all went to, it was also my first job when I was 16. This video is nostalgic in all the best ways. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to telling the story of the park and the town.
I grew up with Magic Mountain I remember the Gold Rusher was my very first rollercoaster. I was too scared to ride the Mountain Express that first visit. I loved the Galaxy and was sorry to see it go! This brought back many memories! Thanks for doing such an amazing video truly amazing .
Hahahaha I remember the Gold Rusher. One time we went to MM no one was going on it so we went on it over and over again with no wait. Fun times! My favorite is still the Revolution but the Gold Rusher holds a special place in my heart.
As a native SoCal resident who has been going to Magic 🪄 Mountain ⛰ all my life this brought back memories. Spot on with everything. I was there opening day on many new coasters & it’s the same age as me. 50. We grew up together. I’ll be making reference to this on my memories for this amazing park. Fabulous job!
Great documentary. The family & I are recent season pass holders and have been to the Park 30 times this year. I had a general idea of its history, but this documentary really educated me. Great job. 👍
Wow! That's an awesome complete documentary of the history of Six Flags Magic Mountain from parts 1 to 5 between May 6th to June 3rd, 2021! This is what I was thinking about whats gonna happen after you finish the 2010s episode of Six Flags Magic Mountain! This Documentary is the best!
Thanks Chris. I'm almost shocked that I sat and watched this for 2 hours but then again I'm a coaster enthusiast too and this documentary was just what the doctor ordered for me on a Saturday night at home enjoying some peace and quiet so, kudos to you. Now, next on the agenda is to actually get an opportunity to meet you in a park as I am a big fan. Great job!
Very well made! Loved every second of it (though it could be slightly over dramatic at times, but you know what that’s actually a strength so never mind)
I watched this in one sitting and it was highly informative and enjoyable! Thank you for putting this together. I look forward to visiting Magic Mountain one day.
Thank you. What an impressive piece of storytelling about a park that has been near and dear to me since I was a kid in the early 80’s. I still have a Sarejevo Bobsled mug.
I appreciate all the work you put into these videos. I grew up in SoCal in the 80s and 90s and watching this unlocked so many memories. Free fall, Tidal Wave, Ninja and Viper were my absolute favorites. Not sure when I stopped going but it was definitely pre 2000. It always had such a bad reputation. Would love to check it out again someday. 💙
@@AirtimeThrills After seeing this, I've gotten really inspired to make one of these for Six Flags Great America. I was wondering if you were planning on doing one for SFGAm's 50th or not?
I didn’t see the original series of videos, so this is new to me. Wow, what an amazing piece of work! 👏 As an East Coaster, I’ve been to SFMM twice, and it is a special place, for sure. Great job!
I graduated from Westminster High School in June 1971. Our Class of '71 opted to have its all night party at Magic Mountain instead of Disneyland. We were the first high school to go there. Some of the rides weren't even operating yet. We were given coupons to return at a later date. The entertainment included Kenny Rogers (before he was a country star), John Davidson and a band called Redeye. I took my girlfriend (future wife) and we had a great time. We're still happily married and have 4 grandchildren. We took our two boys as they were growing up back in the 90's. Our main focus was all the great roller coasters at that park. Then the park become a little run down and security was weak. People were jumping lines, there were globs of chewing gum stuck on the trees. That was the last time we visited Magic Mountain. But, we still have very fond memories of going there in June 1971.
This video had me so invested I didn’t realize I’d been watching for 2 hours!! I thought this was 45 minutes max! Well done, definitely just gained a loyal subscriber.
What a genuine piece of work you've made, my friend. And not a moment too soon. I was planning on re-watching this just the other day! A true homage to my favorite park on this planet. EXCELLENT WORK!
Great job on this! I love knowing the history of a place before I go. I've never been to Magic Mountain, though it's been on my radar since I was a kid. I never got to the West Coast until I was an adult and had sort of stopped riding coasters. Now that I'm back into it, I cannot wait to go to Magic Mountain and Knott's. I need to get there before I'm too old and crotchety to ride all these great thrill rides.
CROTCHETY prevents alot of things. you get put on meds, get walkers and canes and orthotics. you have to watch what you eat. you get to pay the seniors rate though
Hey.. I'll be 59 in April & can't get enough of this stuff....in the future I'll be like Grandpa from "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory"....going well beyond just Fizzy-Lifting Drinks though😂
This reminds me of the days when my father and I would come to Magic Mountain: Gold Rush, Jet Stream, Log Jammer, etc. My father is riding the mountains in heaven right now, but I am still here to remember the beautiful memories of Magic Mountain in the seventies. Thanks for the wonderful, well done story.
Wow, Six flags Magic Mountain is that old. I’ve been going there since I was kid in the 90s. I just went before the pandemic. This a good doc and probably one of the first I have seen.
This series has become one of my favorite videos to watch on RUclips and it doesn’t matter how many times I watch it it still makes me smile knowing how much history my favorite theme park has
Just came across your channel and the documentary, and, let me tell you, this is really good! I never knew so much about this park and it's practically in my back yard!
Great video. Having grown up in Valencia Glen , our family moved there in 1969. (mom still lives in my childhood home ) . Myself and our next-door neighbor, She was 5 and I was 7 won a contest through the Signal newspaper I believe, to actually open the park. We cut the ribbon with Bugs bunny . The picture still hangs on the wall at moms house. Worked there also while a teenager. Spent plenty of nights working the arcade. Great place to grow up in Valencia. Great memories. Thanks.
At 41:25 Z-Force is the reason I watched your video. That was my favorite ride. Your documentary was very informative and interesting. Thank you for your presentation! It's been awhile since I've been to the park. I believe my last roller coaster ride was on Goliath. These Coasters are real extreme to me at my age. So I will go just to watch other people ride. I did see they closed the other ride I used to watch people on called "Spin Out."
This was a awesome video .im 54 from Bakersfield calif and have been going to magic mountain since early 70s every year.you did a amazing job with the timeline of the rides and everything awesome job.
I came back to make sure I upvoted. I did. I'd already watched Son of Beast and found the depth detail and length of each chapter of this history to be just right! Thanks!
This makes my heart happy. I was born in 1972 and lived in Newhall/Saugus/Valencia/Canyon Country (as it was known before "Santa Clarita") until 1986. Needless to say I basically lived at Magic Mountain since it was the only thing to do in town at that time. I miss those damn trolls and I have pictures of my 4th birthday in the park! Saw my first concert there (Flock of Seagulls) and was part of media day when they opened the Sarajevo Bobsleds. Thanks for a great stroll down my memory lane!
My 1st visit was in 1973 (I was 6 yrs old) Remember arriving late evening & eating corn on the cob. Rode a few rides. Del Holland was "my" GM @ defunct AstroWorld. I worked winter work crew when I met him for the 1st time. He shook my 19 yr. old hand while I had muddy boots on & sweaty from cleaning the park & said "Hi! I'm Del the new General manager. Now that's how classy of a guy he was. I'd see him @ IAAPA many times as well. He did a LOT for Six Flags. Great vid on one of the 3 big parks that opened the same yr. WDW & Six Flags Mid-America. They've all been through some times!
This video provided me with a nice nap, I don't like to go on roller coasters, and sitting here in my lazyboy recliner is as close as I want to get. Thank you for this. (I'm 63, and I had my fun in younger years)
Growing up between Michigans Adventure and Cedar Point, I never really heard of the problems that Magic Mountain was having. A child of the late 80s, it was always Cedar Point vs Magic Mountain and all we heard was whenever SFMM got a new ride and we could speculate that CO would then get one. These documentaries are nice to see how much the park has grown through the years without me actually having to visit it.
I've been so busy working at theme park i missed this! it popped up today!! i love this series so much . The park i work for are very much like magic mountain in the early days. The owners have taken the MM formula and applied it to their park and its working. thanks to your Documentary i have a better understanding of their vision! happy new year from Victoria Australia!!
I never comment on these things but I had to tell you that you did a phenomenal job on this. I don’t make content but I can only imagine the time and effort that it took. So I had to tell you good job sir. Thank u
haven't finished this video yet, about half way through, but i love how much work and editing and researching that went into this. Thanks for the informative video I love roller coaster documentaries
Treated this video as a podcast and let it play in my ear while I was busy at work. So thank you for having a 2hr long video for me haha. Would love to see more from this series. Feel like the next obvious parks would be Knotts or Cedar Point but I would be down to see a Dollywood or maybe even Universal Parks. The Kings Island video was also splendid
Oh my!!! So enjoyable! We were there when it first opened, I was a kid and it was a great family park. I loved the dolphins, and animal park, with the driving cars behind it, great memories with the entertainment The Supreams, and a christian night with the late great Keith Green, and all. Thank you for all the work you did to do this video.AWESOME!!!
I just finished the full 2 hour documentary, and I loved it! I found it very to be very intriguing and barely paused during the entire video. Awesome job on your research! I only attended Magic Mountain once back in 2017 but I still reminisce on the awesome rides I went on with my friends! I can't wait to introduce my family to this amazing theme park in a few weeks!

OUTSTANDING! I've been coming to the park since 1974, when my grandparents lived in Saugus. Thank you for your work and for the chance to relive memories of the early days!
Wow, blown away by this series! I’d love to see a similar treatment of Knott’s Berry Farm...funnel cake 😋
Next up is Kings Island but Knott's would be pretty fun to cover also
Very well done, a lot of research was done for this video.
I appreciate that, thanks!
Viper is still amazing
Yea I was there to it was like 70mph top speed a year later I could tell they lowered it.
Omg viper gives me concussions
@@jmichaellopez4765 I LEARNED TO KEEP MY HEAD FIRM AGAINST THE HEADREST TO PREVENT THAT...LOL
0:02 Awesome Behind The Scenes Look About Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park. Thanks Mate. X
This was truly the best documentary ever, Airtime Thrills thank you for you’re amazing care for SFMM and always having amazing content
Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked it
Chris, Thanks for bring back the memories. I've been going to SFMM since 1975, I rode Revolution in 77 and Colossus about a week after it open. I seen a lot of change and have rode every coaster that has come and go. This was amazing Video, Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! I imagine it would be interesting for anyone living through all of it. I only remember things from the late 90s and forward
@@AirtimeThrills we drove down magic mountain parkway, when it was a dirt road, the tower was up...."Future site of Magic mountain" we were COOL!!!! 👍👍🎵🎶🎵.
Oddly enough, my bro just sent this vid to me, while 2 days ago, I came across 8 mm, film rolls, marked "Magic Mountain 1975.
A friend has a projector, going to CK em out... 👍
@@Bellathebear777 Wow old film from the park from 1975...how much of that did you find? That sounds amazing.
I feel like this is a personal gift from your family to ours. Thank you
Wow I actually watched this whole thing. Amazing history. Definitely a place of memories.
Thanks for sticking all the way through
The best coaster doc on RUclips.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching! Making this documentary was the biggest challenge I've ever done on youtube so I'm glad so many people have gotten to watch it
@@AirtimeThrills I wish you all the luck in the world.
This was great to watch! Never knew the history prior to my visits as a kid in the 90s. And I haven't been back since X. Truly enjoyed this video!
Thanks for watching! I also grew up with the park in the early 2000s and have been fascinated with the park's history
Grew up across the street from this place. Thanks for a trip through time
Thank you for this journey. I was there in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I have not been back since. Wonderful memories there! I've driven by a couple of times realizing I'd probably not recognize it with all it's changes. Thank you again for sharing this.
🏍💨
Thanks for checking it out!
Really?? TLC Were Supposed To Performed At The Six Flags Magic Mountain?? NO WAY
Phenomenal work on both this and the Kings Island documentary. I would love to see more of these. I have watched them both multiple times and find these histories fascinating.
Thanks!
This was a great documentary! It actually made me emotional since i grew up in LA and visited that park from the early 90s to early 2000s. In my 40s now living overseas… one day i’ll visit again
this was absolutely wonderful! Thanks for the history and greatly appreciated!
WOW..
Thanks for watching! It was a tremendous effort for sure
I would have loved to see the park back then, my first visit wasn't til 1992 and I was a little kid. Would have loved to see it in the 70s
I've been going to the park since it opened. Have taken my kids and grand kids. Loved the video. Thanks for the great job you done.
Hahahaha I remember the Gold Rusher. One time we went to MM no one was going on it so we went on it over and over again with no wait. Fun times! My favorite is still the Revolution but the Gold Rusher holds a special place in my heart.
I didn’t even notice it was 2 hours until a couple minutes in and plan to watch it straight through love these vids
Did you make it??
As a native SoCal resident who has been going to Magic 🪄 Mountain ⛰ all my life this brought back memories. Spot on with everything. I was there opening day on many new coasters & it’s the same age as me. 50. We grew up together. I’ll be making reference to this on my memories for this amazing park. Fabulous job!
BRILLIANT DOCUMENTARY ! So detailed and informative for even the casual viewer. Two hours well worth spent and recommended to everyone.
Thanks! I appreciate it
Great documentary. The family & I are recent season pass holders and have been to the Park 30 times this year. I had a general idea of its history, but this documentary really educated me. Great job. 👍
Thanks for watching!
The music for the part where colossus is being introduced low key kinda scared me lol. Great video!
Thanks! Colossus was supposed to be scary so the music did its job
Wow, this documentary is amazing. Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching!
@@AirtimeThrills After seeing this, I've gotten really inspired to make one of these for Six Flags Great America. I was wondering if you were planning on doing one for SFGAm's 50th or not?
@@plighting_engineerd i actually am planning on doing that for their 50th in 2 years

I didn’t see the original series of videos, so this is new to me. Wow, what an amazing piece of work! 👏 As an East Coaster, I’ve been to SFMM twice, and it is a special place, for sure. Great job!
Thanks for checking it out!
One of the best videos on RUclips. Amazing.
This is the best coaster video I have ever seen! Congratulations on this amazing series, I very much enjoyed it!! Merry Christmas!
Thanks! Merry Christmas!
@@AirtimeThrills You’re welcome!
Mad respect for this post on Christmas! Merry Christmas Chris!
Thanks! I appreciate it
What a genuine piece of work you've made, my friend. And not a moment too soon. I was planning on re-watching this just the other day! A true homage to my favorite park on this planet. EXCELLENT WORK!
Thanks! I appreciate it
Great job on this!
I'm inspired when i see old grannies riding extreme coasters, like there's hope for all of us
CROTCHETY prevents alot of things. you get put on meds, get walkers and canes and orthotics. you have to watch what you eat. you get to pay the seniors rate though
Hey.. I'll be 59 in April & can't get enough of this stuff....in the future I'll be like Grandpa from "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory"....going well beyond just Fizzy-Lifting Drinks though😂
Thanks Chris. This is pretty dang good!
Glad to see that take two of this hit the RUclips algorithm right. Congrats, Chris!
Thanks! It definitely did this time around
Great documentary that I'm glad I got to binge watch in one full sitting. Great work!
I havent even been able to binge it in one sitting...that's commitment!
Watch all of this loved it , you should be proud how you put all this together thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching!
Well done to this video series! I love this park and cannot wait to go again this summer!
This is even better combined this way. This is fantastic. Great work. Thanks for awesome content!

Thanks!
this was an awesome documentary!! loved every minute of it.

…your documentary was more interesting & more in depth then I ever imagined!
RUclips censored the words ‘Wow’ & ‘Way’ from my comment above?! …huh?
Thanks.
What a great informative documentary! Thank you!!! 🙏
Lot's of time and files for this upload. Well done.
Merry Christmas Airtime Thrills! Excited to watch this video!
One of the greatest theme park documentaries I've seen. It'd be awesome to do other parks like Cedar Point or Kings Island!
Thanks! I got kings island queued up this year
At 41:25 Z-Force is the reason I watched your video.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it
Amazing video! Really appreciate the work that you put in to this.
Thanks for watching!
I came back to make sure I upvoted. I did. I'd already watched Son of Beast and found the depth detail and length of each chapter of this history to be just right!
Thanks!
Thanks! I appreciate it
This makes my heart happy.
Great story, good to know Del is a good guy
He still is very much a classy guy!
This is some pretty amazing journalism to me
I've been so busy working at theme park i missed this! it popped up today!! i love this series so much . The park i work for are very much like magic mountain in the early days. The owners have taken the MM formula and applied it to their park and its working. thanks to your Documentary i have a better understanding of their vision!
happy new year from Victoria Australia!!
Thanks for checking it out!
Very cool and really well done. I grew up in SoCal starting in 1969 and it was fun to see the early days of Magic Mountain.

Thanks! Knotts is appealing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching it all the way thru!
This was amazing! Thanks so much!
