  • Documentary by Richard O. Moore. A part of his film series USA: Poetry.
Philip Glenn Whalen (20 October 1923 - 26 June 2002) was an American poet, Zen Buddhist, and a key figure in the San Francisco Renaissance and close to the Beat generation.
Gary Snyder (born May 8, 1930) is an American man of letters. Perhaps best known as a poet (often associated with the Beat Generation and the San Francisco Renaissance), he is also an essayist, lecturer, and environmental activist. He has been described as the "poet laureate of Deep Ecology". Snyder is a winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the American Book Award. His work, in his various roles, reflects an immersion in both Buddhist spirituality and nature. Snyder has translated literature into English from ancient Chinese and modern Japanese. Snyder was an academic at the University of California, Davis and a member of the California Arts Council.

This is an important document of Gary and Philip at the height of their poetic power and should be seen by all students of poetry in America. Amazing that this exists here and can be seen by all, yet in six years only a few people have watched.. Let's change that, friends.
