"remember when i used to do black butler videos?" the ancient texts... I actually started watching you way back then! It's kind of crazy to see how far you've come, but it's awesome, too. You've always been such a kind person, and I'm happy to see that that hasn't changed a bit despite all the passing time.
As an Irish person that has been living abroad for 6 years now, I totally understand your comment about feeling like you're "losing touch with your Welshness". My accent is almost completely gone to the point where people ask if I'm American/Canadian, even some other Irish people! I also find myself not using Irish slang as much because I know people won't understand it here, so I definitely feel like my speech is getting more genericised/Americanised. For me, what helps is listening to Irish podcasts/radio and other things like introducing a bunch of Irish mythology into my DnD campaign with friends, just to feel closer to it!
As someone who's lived abroad for over a decade before, don't trust your home country folk about your accent and the like. They'll always say "you've lost your accent", "you sound american now", etc. Whether it's 90% of what it was, or 10%. And, as elio said, you're your own person, don't feel like you have to be representing your culture. Live your life how you want to; if that's more representative of your "original" culture, that's great. But if it's not, there's nothing wrong with that either! Personally, I've found my happy spot somewhere between the two, and I imagine it's similar for a lot of people that have lived in multiple countries for an extended period of time. After all, there's a reason we wanted to see the other side of the pasture!
Unironically it could be close to that in Japan. Fruit's expensive to unreasonable degrees (which is why it makes a good gift). EDIT: Fact check, 1kg could be as much as $7.84, so not quite $10 a banana, and I'm unsure how many bananas are in a kilogram.

Hey Connor, I don't think you'll see this comment but, I've been a viewer from 2019 and have seen almost all of your videos from your Fiverr shenanigans to moving to Japan and seeing you change over time. I had a very miserable time back from 2019, and the next couple of years where I did my Bachelors did not make things better. But, seeing you move on to do more unknown things and take things by stride has really inspired me to change especially these couple of months as I moved to Europe for my Masters. I'm absolutely floored with how much I resonated with what you were telling in regards to making friends and the feeling of loneliness. I have to say, the people here are very nice and friendly despite rumors circulating that most people are very closed off and are reluctant to interact with foreigners. I also realized that I was an extrovert and was actively stunting my personal development by being my worst enemy. While things do get hard sometimes, I never have the desire to return back at any point. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
That's great, really well done. Sounds like you've been on a road to self-discovery. Congrats on your progress so far, especially for someone as young as you sound. I'm guessing early to mid twenties. Keep at it! I wish you all the best, internet stranger!
From a someone from Europe to a internet stranger, Im very happy you are enjoying Europe and its people, I hope that Europe can help you achieve all your goals and helping you grow, good luck on your journey stranger
About getting a citizenship you need to be in Japan for 5 years straight (meaning not leaving the country for 5 years, if for business purposes depends); can speak, write and read Japanese like an elementary student grade 3 level; pay taxes, health insurance, pension; having good conduct (if you have minus points in your driving license they’ll check into that as well so might as well wait for a year for them to go back to 0); be 20 years of age and have a mid-long term visa(student visa not allowed, working visa, long term resident, permanent resident can apply) Those are just the basics. Once they approved that you can apply they will give you lists of documents you need to pass depending on your nationality and then when you complete those documents, you will wait for 6 months to have your interview and Japanese examination(depending who is interviewing you, my interviewer is kind he just made me take a very easy 1/2 page of written exam while my brother’s interviewer made him read a book) and then after that you’ll wait for the result to come out. For me and my kid it took 2 years to come out 😂 my brother is still waiting for the results 😂
5 years in Japan... and, what, 4 years since the last cosplay video? When are we gonna get that $50-Wish Cosplay vid, hahhh? Thanks, Monke~! Keep being awesome, fella~!
IT'S A FUCKING Q&A. I was scared that Conner was leaving , god it was scary Because of you i actually started a yt channel of my own, damn would behave been heart broken if you left 😭😭
The title of the video nearly threw me off, it almost sounded like you were gonna quit making amazing videos but after your explanation from answering other people’s questions totally changed my mind now 🥰🥰🥰
you and chris's content has definitely helped right now in these dark times. can't wait to see more of your cool travels, because it makes me want to finally want to make the trip to japan.
As someone who only found you like 4 years ago, I wanna say thank you, Connor. You definitely changed my life for the better. Nothing made me happier than seeing that goofy Twitch notification that you're live when I was in my lowest moments. Your subathons kept me company right after I moved and didn't have anyone to talk with. Your cyclethons and rv streams helpng to give some sanity while i worked on my finals. And if it wasn't your streams, it was your VODs that would pop up on my feed at the perferct times. In one way or another your content always made its way when I needed some uplifting. Please keep doing what you're doing and again from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Long Live Monke OUG OUG OUG OUG OUG OUG OUG!!!
Thanks CDawg - The best advice @21:00 - My mom always pushed me to try new things - I was in theatrical productions, orchestras, I learned to play the pipe organ, we did white water rafting and rock climbing, I learned how to make cotton candy from a fair clown and do face painting, I did costume crafting for plays and jewelry making, and that just scratches the surface - Just all sorts of weird and wild things. I HATE interacting with people and get such bad anxiety but once you realize that your own comfort zone may be hampering you, you really just gotta smash down that part of you for a time to just give things a try. There really is nothing to lose (so long as you're not doing anything dangerous).
You actually made me tear up towards the end of this video. I appreciate you and your content, and I'm grateful to have an outlet to distract myself with everything going on in the world. As someone who lives in the southeastern part of the united states and doesn't have the same views of my family and most friends and having to question my relationships, this has been a very rough and lonely time for me. I know I'm not the only one going through this, and I also know I don't have it as rough as most people in my country. Still scared, nonetheless. I thank you for being one of the few distractions for me so I can take a break from crying so much as of late.
Regarding the question how much it costs to move here to Japan: I moved here with no more than 7.5k€ on my account, and my monthly expenses during my first couple months were around 1.6k-2k. Nowadays it costs alot more due to location and general expenses.
Believe it or not, the Black Butler content was what brought me to the channel, never really was a huge anime fan, nor am I now. I watch some series every now and then, by far not like most of the community here. But even when I had NO idea about who or what was the video about, I simply found it entertaining and I enjoyed it. At some point I simply stopped watching it, a bit after you moved to japan i think (no reason at all, simply moved on to other content). Then I saw your videos with Mouse on my feed and was like, O SHT CDWAG STILL EXISTS, what is he up to? Got introduced to Vtubers and now I do it myself as a hobby. Loving every second of it. I fell in love with the content you were doing again. Started watching Aki and Joey again and now watch this channel and your second channel A LOT. I absolutely love what you are doing now and it was AMAZING to see how much you and your content evolved. It really was a punch in the face filled with love and countless hours of fun. Thank you so much for everything you do and bringing me a bit of haha funny time in this shit tornado the world is rn. Thank you Connor
Just wanted to say that the day you streamed the unboxing of the giant monkey I was feeling stressed out because we had lost water due to Hurricane Helene. I was feeling terrible that I was feeling stressed out about it because we were blessed that water was the only thing we had to deal with as opposed to other folks on the other side of the mountains in NC. So I desperately needed a distraction to recenter myself and focus on important things. And I don't know what it is about a giant monkey unboxing that helped me through things, but it did. This might be a bit silly, but it's true. Been enjoying watching your stuff with Chris Broad and others for about a year I think now. :)
As a person who owns a house in Japan, Connor is right. If you're rich, it ain't difficult. Just sign the papers and pay the money. If you aren't rich, getting a mortgage as a foreigner is nigh impossible unless you have permanent residency, and then maybe you have a chance. My partner is Japanese so the house/mortgage had to put in his name for the bank to be satisfied. Another thing that is very important that people don't talk about much is being a seishain (permanent employee). Ever as a Japanese person it is very difficult to get a loan unless you are a seishain. I have J friends who have been trying to buy for years but can't because of this.
I have never heard Lyney and Zhongli pronounced that way that it made me laugh. XD Thank YOU for letting us join you on this amazing journey. I've watched your videos since the Black Butler days and everyday I'm just proud of your growth. Keep it up~
Absolutely relate on the self-mobility aspect. Visited for a month this year, and I absolutely plan to move there in the next few years lol. A walkable city was practically a religious experience.
im a bit older at the age of 35, and ive always loved the idea of going to Japan since the age of 12. The downside is being a poor guy in USA it'll take at least a year for me to save up to come even for a week. There's so many new things i wanna see and im hopeful i might finally meet some people who can help me love japan even more then i already do, even though i havent gotten to go yet. Sadly, im a loner and have low confidence who's not in the best shape these days, so unless i have outgoing people help me i feel itll be a waste, even if i have such a deep desire to go. it doesnt ever feel like itll happen or i always end up putting it off out of obligation or fear of stupid stuff. Anyways thank you for making this video, it made my day better bro. Hope i get to see it someday in person myself.
Drove for the second time in Japan and its just so much better than just staying in the big cities. You get to explore more and experience those "hidden" places or temples. Highly recommend!
You've certainly brought light and joy to my life! You've also reinspired me to find my way back to Japan, a goal I've had on the back burner since my university exchange got cancelled back in 2020. I'm pursuing three different avenues, so wish me luck and give me a cheers if I make it to Japan in 2025!
You and ironmouse have changed my life for the past year now finally making me realise what i want to do for a living thank you for making content for our entertainment (also youtube keeps unsubbing me)
gaijins have it very hard are there is still alot of hate agianst them though mostly from the older generation however thats the majority, outside of that living in a major or minor city is pricey or expensive and can at times feel clusterphobic, if your a teacher like chris thats your best bet because they find you a place on the cheap for being a educator ( usually ) but as connor said the work here is so bad many have unalived themselves r.i.p 😔 bottom line: probably just best to visit not stay long term, enjoy have fun, and try to avoid our terrible negatives for a regular person, rich people with millions like connor come on down and boost our economy lool 🌝
This was very helpful as I have very recently moved to another country (not japan) and many of the points Connor talks about are gonna be really helpful for me so just wanted to say.... Thank you!
The best way to learn a language I've been told is to completely immerse yourself in it, use the language apps, listen to music in that language, audio tapes, find streamers or pod casts in that language, watch media in that language with your languages subtitles, or if not possible try and do the reverse instead doing all of these things should give you a good strong start!
Complete immersion isn't really the best short term strategy if you don't have any context to compare it to your mother tongue. I'd say watching media with the target language subtitles is the best way to go about it (maybe romanji for Japanese media if that's a thing)
I've been watching your videos since you started in 2015, and I remember when your video announcing the move to Japan came out. As a kid, I was sad and worried about how that trip would change you as my favorite RUclipsr - but it has made you one of the most inspirational people I know. I'm American and lived in London for the first half of this year for uni, and while I was there I took an impromptu trip to the middle of Eryri National Park in Wales to get out of the city and to explore. I absolutely loved it and dream of going back when I have more money and more time. Since then, too, I have started learning Welsh, and am working on a research project through my university to look at the importance of preserving endangered languages. Anyway, the bit at the end of this video about Wales just made me want to share this. I love you so much, Connor, and you are such an amazing person. Diolch yn fawr iawn!!
Love hearing you talk so wisely about embracing a new culture and experiencing new ways of living life. I also spent a big chunk of my adulthood in the UK from Spain and I can relate so much to how you express you're feeling. Don't worry you'll never lose your "Welshness"! It'll be a sort of evolved mix, best of both worlds. Keep it up mate ❤
Although there have been less main channel videos, I think some of the ConnorDawg videos this year were really fresh, and compelling. The Void Stranger video, and the Fear and Hunger saga in particular were videos absolutely on par with, if not surpassing some of the best content on the CdawgVA channel in many ways. I have been holding out hope to see Connor do a Noita video in that style.
Not me finding your main channel years ago BECAUSE of said Black Butler videos. 🤣I still remember the "Domino's Oreo Dessert Pizza" card that popped up when you played CAH with several peeps playing as the Black Butler characters, and the person who was doing Meyrin's part becoming mildly obsessed with it. Also the VERY SPECIFIC happy meal toy joke..... 😂
I love watching your live streams, specially the ones you're outside showing around, i always watch them when I'm alone and you keep me company and i feel like I'm hanging around with friends and it makes me feel good for a moment and forget all the crap things going on with my life. Thank you for being a ray of sunshine in dark days 💙
I'm living through something similar to what you talk to in the end, I was born in Uruguay but raised in Spain, this year marks the exact half point of my life since I've moved back to Uruguay, but I have no irl interactions since I work from home with a company based in the US and no friends, and all the content I watch is in english or japanese so I only speak my native language when I talk with my mother once every two weeks, at this point I'm just an immigrant, and I feel likethe US has that media power that just transforms you a little bit just by speaking the language
I love that he was honest about how hard it would be if he had a normal job working in Japan. Iku from Prism Project was working while streaming on the side and her IRL manager handed off all of his responsibilities to her to do at work and home without overtime compensation whatsoever. I've been through the same thing in America whereas my boss, an assistant superintendent, would stay home and let me, the lowest paid employee, run the office building construction job for him.

I fall in love with it more and more every time. Seeing it through your lens has been fun as well! Thanks for all you do.
Is that money actually going towards the cost of living there though? If so, then yeah it’s a lot to pay up front, and certainly not just anyone could do that, but if you have it, at least it’s not free money you’re handing away to the leac… landlord.
@@peteyboo It does not go to the cost of living. If they accept less money up front, they will make you pay more rent. Provided that the apartment is undamaged, you get your deposit back when you move out, but no. It doesn't help with payment. They just sit on your money until they have to give it back
Thank you for the encouraging words. I am about to move to a different state where I have never been and do not know anyone. I will just have to "put myself out there and meet new people and try new things". I so enjoy watching your content.
Relate to so much of what you say. I'm 43 and have now spent the majority of my adult life in Rwanda. I also wish I'd bought better furniture. I left for a while, came back, and thought I was only staying for a month... huh. What you say about friendship also rings true. True friends are the ones you don't see for years, but when you do it's like no time has passed. And friends you make in country also become that. Bonded by shared experiences and intense situations. I feel the same way about frustrations and quality of life here. Even after so long I have no desire to move back to the UK.
The fact that Mouse can go from normal gremlin voice (said with love) to beautiful opera style singing in an instant should say that Mouse doesn’t use a voice changer. I can change between my deep singing voice, and back to my goofy streaming voice, and to my high pitched surprised voice, and to my ridiculous stitch voice in the the matter of seconds depending on the situation. No one has ever questioned my vocal control
I got to live in Japan for free for four years. The catch was I signed my life away to a certain company for those years and eve had a chance to re-up buuuut I’m some place else now lol
Ok, given that super vague backstory, I'm just gonna assume you were forced to be a hitman for the yakuza and finally escaped to retire on the beach of some tropical country.
the clickbaity title and the upload time kinda makes the "standing up for ironmouse" video not seems as genuine, Connor knows what kind of things get clicks.
RUclips is what helped to break me of my weaboo outlook on Japan and I'm forever grateful for that before I began wasting money to live in a country I would likely be unhappy working in 😅. There's a reason we now have a "school teacher to content creator" pipeline with those in Japan, given how brutal the workplace is (but this is also assuming I had ever learned Japanese. I lost interest in learning when I realized it wasn't a country I wanted to work in, but I also don't want to do content creation as my off-ramp). Also helped to break any interest in dating in Japan if I lived there, given the expectation of women to essentially still care for their husband like they're their mother. Of course, this isn't always the case (Rachel and Jun from Rachel and Jun's Adventures comes to mind. Rachel says she's horrible with a lot of traditionally "wifey tasks", especially cooking, so Jun handles all of that. And damn, that man makes it an art 😂. We all joke that Rachel hit jackpot with having a real life shoujo love interest as her husband, lol). But it seems to be common enough that I would feel a silent pressure to adhere to that and it would make me unhappy. I would say that for the work hours, I'd hope in time that it will get better, but with less births, I'm worried it would get worse.
Next adventure? Climb Mt. Kita and photograph Mt. Fuji rising majestically through the clouds nearly 100 miles in the distance. Do this because I can't. 😄 Also, due to the altitude and Natsuki's lungs I suggest you leave him at home this time. Thx. 😘
05:49 Are you saying that in the UK you don't have to pay a 2-4-6 deposit the first month? In Norway, it's very common to pay anywhere from 1-3 in deposit the first month.

"Don't ask a RUclipsr, ask Reddit" is not the life-decision advice I was expecting
"I go to bed at 9 and wake up at 1."
...what?
Im just gonna assume it was meant to be the other way around lmao
I come to comments to see if that was caught 🤣 if correct, that's some crazy amount of sleep
He might have a strange sleep cycle due to his streams with Mouse and others not in Japan.
is this one am or pm?
IT'S A FUCKING Q&A. I was scared that Conner was leaving , god it was scary
Because of you i actually started a yt channel of my own, damn would behave been heart broken if you left 😭😭
"I go to bed at 9 and wake up at 1..." uhhhh
I also dont understand it, cuz having 16 Hours of Sleep and only 8 hours of work and doing stuff sounds absolutely crazy.
im also lost
9 PM - 1AM = 4 Hours
9AM - 1PM = 4 Hours
9PM - 1PM = 16 Hours
9AM- 1AM = 16 Hours
?????????????????????????????????????????????
Guys think he meant he goes to bed at 1 am and wakes up at 9 am. Solid 8 hours the dream
I think he messed up the order of numbers it's probably 1am to 9am

This video right after ironmouse video??? Cmon CCanineVirginia, you can't do this to us
you didn´t just go to Japan, you brought Japan to us through your videos, and we´re very thankful for that
The title of the video nearly threw me off, it almost sounded like you were gonna quit making amazing videos but after your explanation from answering other people’s questions totally changed my mind now 🥰🥰🥰
Monke had definitely been hanging out with Ludwig too much, holy moly.
The title made everyone shit their pants
Wow can't believe Joey's Nonsense empire bought out Connor's share of Trash Taste and replacing him with a Scottish guy

you and chris's content has definitely helped right now in these dark times. can't wait to see more of your cool travels, because it makes me want to finally want to make the trip to japan.
Really like this type of vids, like just connor meeting a friend and openly ranting
Welshman in Japan fears he is becoming too American.

The greatest question to ever be asked
You actually made me tear up towards the end of this video. I appreciate you and your content, and I'm grateful to have an outlet to distract myself with everything going on in the world. As someone who lives in the southeastern part of the united states and doesn't have the same views of my family and most friends and having to question my relationships, this has been a very rough and lonely time for me. I know I'm not the only one going through this, and I also know I don't have it as rough as most people in my country. Still scared, nonetheless. I thank you for being one of the few distractions for me so I can take a break from crying so much as of late.
Regarding the question how much it costs to move here to Japan:
I moved here with no more than 7.5k€ on my account, and my monthly expenses during my first couple months were around 1.6k-2k. Nowadays it costs alot more due to location and general expenses.
USD?
@@spyscy Euro, should clarify that thanks
Chris buys recording studios and a bar (to eat cheese).. Conner buys giant stuffed animals. Think yours might be the healthier outlet lol
Also, fuck you @CDwagVA FOR THE CLICK BAIT DUDE
1:04 this is the funniest intro I have ever seen , mudan with his magic stikes again
XD
Thank YOU for letting us join you on this amazing journey.

18:14 You’re right, Connor.
You posted 2 videos that talked about serious matters at the same time. I got worried right now.
I wonder if there is any anime featuring Wales or folklore related to Wales. Would like to see you make videos about those.
You and ironmouse have changed my life for the past year now finally making me realise what i want to do for a living thank you for making content for our entertainment (also youtube keeps unsubbing me)
gaijins have it very hard are there is still alot of hate agianst them though mostly from the older generation however thats the majority, outside of that living in a major or minor city is pricey or expensive and can at times feel clusterphobic, if your a teacher like chris thats your best bet because they find you a place on the cheap for being a educator ( usually ) but as connor said the work here is so bad many have unalived themselves r.i.p 😔
bottom line: probably just best to visit not stay long term, enjoy have fun, and try to avoid our terrible negatives for a regular person, rich people with millions like connor come on down and boost our economy lool 🌝

Your main channel vids are quality and well worth the spacing. I am also a huge fan of the gaming videos you've put out lately.
15:27 I was expecting Connor to bring out a cake, eat a slice and not share. Maybe next time. 😂
Connor did not die for this.
Dont tell american landlords about key money, its already too expensive to rent a basic apartment like new york sized anywhere in america.

14:30 Think fast, chucklenuts

Man, its already that time of year already? Time flies hella quickly and this video + the TT Awardw is how I keep up with your time in Japan
TELL US YOU KEPT THE CAT?! PLEASE?! I MUST KNOW! I won't be mad if you didn't! I WANT YOU TOO!
Don’t apologize for making good videos!!! You are a prolific creator across many channels, not just one, and that’s amazing!
Honestly surprised that Connor's NOT wearing *THAT* TT shirt in this video 😆
I moved mountains in my life back in 2016 with the goal of moving to Japan. Everything that could go wrong on that journey did so I haven't been able to do it, and have stopped aiming for the stars on that one.
But I still visit more than I'd ever dreamed I could. I fall in love with it more and more every time. Seeing it through your lens has been fun as well! Thanks for all you do.
Dang, key money in Japan is not bad at all. Here in Korea it's usually about one year of rent you have to put up in order to move in
Is that money actually going towards the cost of living there though?
I had a heart attack when I saw this good thing the guy beside me saw the electric paddles at the wall
I was living in Yokohama and moved back to the States a few months ago and it’s like f&$king Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdown here compared to Japan

@ lmao nah nah. Just the military 😇
the clickbaity title and the upload time kinda makes the "standing up for ironmouse" video not seems as genuine, Connor knows what kind of things get clicks.
Only 10 videos? Meh. I chalk that up to quality over quantity.
Looking forward to Cyclethon 4 so I can ride along with the VODs while I work!
I NEVER FUCKING CLICKED THIS FAST
Next adventure? Climb Mt. Kita and photograph Mt. Fuji rising majestically through the clouds nearly 100 miles in the distance. Do this because I can't. 😄
