      Definitely agree. The first one was not great. Not like the video. His videos are always great. But the experience he had. It truly felt like they were mocking him constantly and not caring. This one is significantly better. The fact they are asking if he's ok, etc, is great. I know he probably thinks it's better because he understands Japanese more now but... You can see the difference in how he's treated.

    • @sidneylock5667
      @sidneylock5667 Месяц назад +30

      Its very competitive in the host industry so not surprised that Connor was treated badly in the 1st video. The other hosts in the 1st video must be thinking what was this foreigner doing here in the 1st place.

They probably saw the value in good publicity and getting a wider audience through Connor's channel, especially since they thrive on their social media presence.

    The fact that a lot of host clubs' customers also work as a hostess or some form of sex work is really interesting to touch upon. It's pretty common for women to pick up these kind of jobs, not because they want to, but because it helps them afford lavish spending for host clubs. It's pretty sad, tbh.

      Maybe it's the other way around? The income hostesses get from SW leaves them longing for genuine relationships or connections, but it's difficult to do that. So, they look for the next best thing, which is some kind of human connection at the host club?

But with a healthier system like just paying for the amount of time there's only so much people would be willing to pay upfront if it isn't obfuscated like that so that's probably why they do it.

      The reality is that Host Clubs, like casinos and other vices are symptoms of society. They would be okay if they were taken in moderation, but that never seems to be the case.

All those thousands of Yen could've been spent on the best of the best psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists and eventually truly helped all these people heal themselves from within and live happier and better-quality lives.
    I hope Japan heals from this overwhelming loneliness and sadness. I truly hope so.

      @jemtaovt1122 Месяц назад +12

      It's more-or-less the same all around the world currently for both men and women. The experience is likely similar with OnlyFans subscriptions, prostitutes, sketchy massage parlors, Tinder / dating apps in general, LLM partners (I say "LLM" instead of "AI" because of logistics), parasocial relationships with internet celebrities, and whatever else you can think of.
      People are forgetting what it means to be social; what it means to like a person as a family, friend, or romantic partner; and they are forgetting why having caring people around is important in general.
      Men and women both depend on each other equally, and if one starts to fall, so will the other. We are linked by the fact that we are all human.
      This video simply demonstrates Japan's version of how some women are coping with loneliness.

    I think the way Connor felt unsure because of not knowing the subtleties and nuances but somehow could pick up ANY of it was impressive. Most clients already know the subtleties of being "won over" to spend money and come to host clubs knowing this is all transactional with very few actually thinking they're "in love" with the host.
    Really enjoyed this content - a little heavier conceptually but well balanced with Connor's added lightness through humor and earnestness.

There is a reason why typical hosts makes 500M~1000M JPY (5M~10M USD) per year. The top 5 host club groups have higher revenue if you count their gray revenue than the majority of major Japanese public companies and could easily rival fortune 500 companies in profits (several B USD per year)

      @@dannyg.4421 I and my identical twin lost friends to that show. "Hey, best friend, let me spread the gospel of twincest; you see-- _wait, where are you going, best friend with an identical twin?_ You just don't understand the BOND BETWEEN THESE TWINS IT'S ERROTIC!" I didn't even hate the show, I thought it was fun. _But the twin thing got the fandom in a twist and I had to suffer for it._

      @@YourWaywardDestiny yeah they would try to bribe us or plead for us to do things. like they suggested that they would kiss each other if we did. they were shameless. lol ofcourse we always told them no but i wasnt socially equipped enough to know how to make them stop asking. during that time yaoi a big thing for them, so they were already very comfortable with the subject too. i wonder if it still is.

      @@dannyg.4421 I'm a girl, so seeing me kiss my sister wasn't on their radar so immediately and directly, so that amount of up-front of sexual harassment wasn't exactly how it went for me. Mostly just telling us we should cosplay with them and LARP the Host Club as funny little skit after letting me know that twincest was totally good and neat and their favorite thing. I was not going to do that. My sister was not going to do that. We already got weird "let's have a threesome" sorts of comments from random highschool dudes, and then the lady weeb friends were trying to stealth it out of us for their proxy incest yaoi fix.
      People are still weird about twins, but at least now Oran Highschool Host Club isn't the hottest anime around to rub off on several demographics of the socially maladjusted.

      i laughed at your comment about several demographics of the socially maladjusted. reminds me of the time glomping was a thing and i would just be talking to someone in a hallway before getting tackled randomly by some one else making uwu nyaa sounds.

    Not only was it fun to see Connor talking to the customers more naturally this time around, but also Connor seemed to get along better with Reito than the #1 host from the last video.
    This is also helping me solidify my Japanese speaking and listening so I'm quite happy about that too
