Hello! I’m a fellow RUclipsr and I am wondering what type of content you are looking for? Personally, I enjoy the chatty videos talking about the plants. Show and tell if you will. I feel like I am seeing a lot of “plant chores” these really long videos with mostly music attached. These I’m not really into and I’m wondering if you feel the same? I saw your comment and it made me think. I hope you don’t mind me asking. I’m really just looking to see what people want to see vs what’s being shown. Hope that makes sense. Happy growing!

Can I just say, as a buyer, I would love to have the Monstera Devil, but I will wait till more sane prices come to pass. I just bought my Thai only 2-3 months ago and I got it for $25. I am also willing to get a small one and grow them out myself. I paid a lot for my Albo but those days are over for me. I can no longer afford to pay, nor do I want to pay those high prices anymore. I am patient. I can wait til the price comes down. Just my 2 cents, for anyone interested in one buyers point of view.

Hi there, I recently also did a video on the Bangkok international plant exhibition. I did a price analysis and found that the prices have gone up.
    BUT!
The planters market which is happening in Singapore right now is showing prices that are MUCH cheaper. This is really surprising! The same sellers in Thailand came to Singapore and the prices were significantly cheaper.
E.g. a variegated gloriosum medium size selling for SGD$800 is SGD$490 now.

I love watching these videos about the plant business, the business side of rare plants.. Although it's a cliche by now, tulipomania was about tulips, actuall tulip bulbs that led to a famous bubble market. It turned out that their "breaks" were caused by viruses, as I'm sure you know. Can those White Devil Monsteras even grow reliably in a greenhouse? They are fascinating but they don't look very stable, with the thin thin ribcage leaves with so little chlorophyll. I hope the rare plant business doesn't speculate itself to death.

At some point Sean mentions that some plants are actually hard to get in Asia that are alot easier for Europe or north America to get. So he's mentioning the same point that you are, know your market. What they sometimes can grow we can't and vice versa (or buy and sell readily)

I think many plant collectors are starting to order directly from the source so the overseas market is selling plants for what they think we would pay for them here (I’m in the US). If they’re using sites that overcharge for their base line market value, the prices get super inflated. When their plants don’t sell because they’re overpriced, they will reduce prices.

I am not really into Aroids but I am kinda fascinated by the way the marked works. I sell Cacti and succulents and we got prices so so much lower than these. Do you think the plant hobby will eventually move away from aroids over the course of a couple years? Because i don’t think that the breeders can just throw out the 1000th Alocasia or Philodendron hybrid and people will spend 4-5 figures on it before it gets too much for the community to handle

Another awesome video as usual. My comments coming from the EU zone:
Philo Orange Princess - still pretty rare in the EU, definitely more expensive than what you showed.
Pink ZZ - seems a bit expensive for import compared to what I've seen in the EU.
Monstera adansonii definitely not worth it in the EU, small plants with 5-10 leaves are already at 35€.
Monstera full mint - definitely not worth it.
Philo gloriousum variegated - not worth it.
Legacy Thai - nah not worth it either
Alocasias bambino aurea - another one not worth for shipping, they are already under 100€.
Variegated frydeks are going down to 30€ so I don't think it's worth all the troubles
Billies for that size - I would go for them that size, also for the reason you brought up, instability.
Raphiodophora variegated 2 leaf cuttings are about 20-30€ so not worth.
Alocasia cuprea variegated? That's insane, they are under 1000€ in the EU.
Philo white princess - lol way over what I'd pay there is so much similar to it.
That lime green Thai, insane, not even going to comment xD
Monstera viet looks insane - I'll wait xD
Alocasia chantrieri - not worth it personally
Not really into the TC stuff either, specially for the work you'd need to do and risk to sell them for a profit. By the time they are climatized prices are down.
BMF - I agree, good price.
    Crazy stuff man, good vid!

Hey Pretty, I love your channel! Love the information that you share with us. But back to this video...there has always been a difference between the Asian, European and American 'rare' plant market, but not as huge as it is now. Not only trend wise but also price wise. Since China joined the plant market they changed the game (in Asia), but not here in Europe (The Netherlands where I live). After corona the market has been shrinking, resulting in (much) cheaper plants for the customers. Besides that, the demand for variegated plants (especially Philodendrons) is kinda low, the same goes for Monstera's. If there has been one on the rise, it is the genus Anthuriums. I have seen them being sold anywhere between 50-1000 (average rare anthurium being 200, but you can find seedlings for cheaper). The days of buying plants above 1000 are over. It's just not worth it, it makes my hobby as a collector less fun plus I know that all those prices will come down over the years like we have seen over and over again. It is however, very interesting to see what is going on in Asia :).

Your content is well worth the time invested, congrats on doing such a good job. I just collect, but I always try to remember three things when buying morphs:
    1. A green plant, by definition, is healthy because of a predominance of chlorophyl. Variegation, by default because of a diminishment of chlorophyl, is not. (Don’t everybody lose their lunch; I have scores of variegated aroids.)And most plants will attempt to revert back , unless genetically manipulated.
    2. Tissue culture and genetic manipulation can sometimes produce plants that grow with diminished vigor. I have Thai Cons that simply do not grow as well as a M. deliciosa albo.
    3. And with tongue lodged firmly in cheek, I know that the market is tanking when all the sellers come up with fancy, frilly names for what they are selling. The fancier names I see the more I see sellers attempting to create scarcity.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I HATE what they are doing. Not a particular fan of business to business to business (EDIT: since people like to assume i want free, this is what i mean by greed, i had to edit this because i dont think people like to pay attention to the video) and by the time it goes to time for the public to buy these they are so priced out that it's not even worth it (edit: meaning the urge to get rich off a plant means its the motivation to buy them all out before the public even had a chance. Meaning supply and demand cost is whatever they want it to be, so if a business buys it for 27,000 it can easily make it to 50,000, i dont care if its a risky gamble, its the act of greed that irritates me. business to business greed flipping, has nothing to do with nonbusiness people who never had a chance to get it at the low of 27,000, now they have to pay even more than that.), I'm all for unicorns, really, but this is greed, and it is very gross. Not remotely a fan. it is getting ridiculous. (edit: still not once did i say i want a free plant)(its as mentioned in the video: a business to business circle jerk without the general public having a chance)

How is it greed? They pay what they want for the plant supple and demand. No owes anybody a cheaper plant. It’s a luxury to buy these plants you don’t have to buy it. If anything they are gambling no guarantee they can make back their investment so I’ll hardly consider this greed

if you aren't a fan, then you can order it from overseas, but you might not get a discount. no one is going to work for you for free (acclimate it, pay for shipping, etc.). they have food to buy, shelter needs, maybe a family to support. they would get another job.

@@marierejoiceinjesus3846 not what i said and thats super assumptive, minus the not being a fan of BUSINESS TO BUSINESS only greed, buying them all out before the public can get a chance to buy is bullshit..........thats the unpopular part of what i meant.

@@Jayl__ as its stated in the video, business to business buying them all out before the public can get a chance is outright greed, don't like i say that? not my problem, these business buy them out before the public can take a crack, as i said i have no issue buying unicorns, but when the public has no chance like they do on these conventions is bullshit. as ive spent a pretty penny on single plants, i have no problem paying a price tag. its the business to business greed. yall are a bunch of assumptive douches.
