    I have mixed feelings about pattern naming - most of the time I feel like people use them to upsell a variegated plant whose market value is decreasing; while more advanced plant owners recognize it for what it is, newer plant owners will spend so much more money because they think it's a new cultivar and not a pattern name. We saw it with the Pink Princess.

      Yeah exactly. Like, I understand why these elite plant collectors do it, because these multi thousand dollar plants basically have a pedigree. But I hate when general growers and sellers are like “oh yeah, I can do that too!” Cause like you said, it’s often a trick to get people to buy from them thinking it’s rarer, paying higher prices and/or buying duplicates of the same plant under different names. Like philodendron Florida ghost and Florida mint. They’re not different cultivars. You want a ghost, grow in high light. You want a mint, grow in lower light
      I always laugh at my *one of a kind super special cultivar* the Philodendron “white shark.” It’s just a reverted white knight lol. And I knew that when I bought it. But I still liked how it looked and it was quite cheap at a time when white knights were expensive and hard to find. But the name “white shark” exists noooowhere else. It’s just what my local tropical plant wholesaler decided to call what was probably their subpar batch of TC knights lol. It’s an ethically questionable business practice in my book

    So cool! I don’t feel like the crème brûlée yellow looks like same color as crème brûlée but it could be the lighting of the photo making it look more yellow. I’d love to own one of those! So pretty!

    TriCon, Electrolyte & Starlight are the only ones I care for but I've never seen any of them in person.
    Seeing in person can changes how one feels about a plant.

    I just have plants because they bring me joy, but by accident I'm pretty sure i have discovered a new variegation in one of my philodendrons, have never seen anything like it. I bought it a year ago as a tissue culture plant. I have no idea where to go from here!

    • @ohrats731
      @ohrats731 5 месяцев назад

      Ah the cooked spinach plant! 😂 I used to hate the look of shangri la, but it’s grown on me. I still don’t own one, but it is a fun and unique look. Syngonium rolli also has that mutation, if you weren’t already aware of that one

  • @ohrats731
    @ohrats731 5 месяцев назад +1

    How long do you think it’ll take for the tricolor to reach the $100 range? Cause I definitely want one! 😂
    I’d also love to see a mutation that causes the plant to be mostly that minty blue green color we see from stacking variegation. Like I want to see a monstera that is primarily that blueish mint shade 🤩 I love it so much when my albo gets a big patch of it

    I have a puppy and a Thai Con. Can I make thousands off of a yellow snow edition? It's a high variegation Thai Con with yellow spots on it, guaranteed one of a kind.

  • @taylorhillard4868

    Honestly i never give much credence to most of the variations unless theyre very distinct (like how that medusa one looks like its infected with a virus)
    Ever since i got a cutting of a marble queen with almost no variegation and ended up propagatong everythong from a completely green pothos to a strand so white and devoid of chlorophyl, save for only a few green speckles, that it takes 5 months to make a single new leaf. So bow i dont really put any stock into variations of variegation that fall of the same spectrum. If i can turn a marble queen into a snow queen with how i care for it, then they are not different plants, lol. Id venture to assume most of these are in a similar boat.

    Which monstera would be very beginner friendly? I'm not a beginner in plants but I'm way off from an expert...I consider myself a beginert(my own spelling) a cross between beginner/expert..maybe intermediate would be a better word ..many people say certain plants are beginner friendly when in reality their not....what's your advice from your experience? Thanks so much

    This is slowly getting out of hand and all those variations will make people not care about name, they will just call them Monstera, the changes are so minor and not significant that its not worth remembering so maybe they will stay rare because nobody except handful of people are going to care about them let alone buy them, I appreciate the work from your end though

    These are (mostly) beautiful, but I feel like people that can buy a plant for 10k for non-businesses purposes is reminder of how messed up our society is with so many people who that'd 10k could help so much.
    But, when considering the purchase can lose so much value quickly due to how plants can propagate (tho not so easy for slow growing, non-tcable plants) and expand supply it does add some hilitary.
    I don't think there being rare/sought after plants is a bad thing -- it makes someone feel good to have something special -- but 10k is just so much for a plant that can just die.
