2017 ridgeline, Just crossed 100,000 miles. The only issue I experienced was warped front brake rotors at 60,000 miles. I would by this again without a second thought.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience!
I try to avoid using brakes.
I live in the mountains and have had warped from brake rotors on both Honda and Toyota vehicles. It happens!
I bought the first generation 2006 Ridgeline in Aug of 2005. Crossed 200,000 miles. Still own it but it is no longer my daily driver.
Again, hope you changed your timing belt.
I have a '21. By far the biggest issue that you didn't mention is the water leaks in the rear cab seams. I just got mine back after a month at the dealer trying to find the leak in the cab. It was a couple of seams on the passenger side down towards the bottom. There are vids here on youtube showing example. Everyone who owns from a '20 up should pull the rear sill plates and check the carpet for wetness, especially if the windows fog up when you start the truck. Its a widespread issue that seems to be in batches, not every vehicle. The auto start/stop issue is a recall and warranty is extended. They start with PCM update and if necessary they do a valve adjustment to fix the problem. The tailgate release is prone to breaking as its pretty weak, the harness being pinched happened to mine and had to be replaced. They 9spd needs routine fluid flush, 25k to 30k max or it jutters and surges under load. The rotors warp after 2 or three hard stops but tend to smooth back out if you are easy for a while, I agree they are undersized. There is currently a new recall for some pre 20 trucks, issues with the 3.5l eating itself that is concerning since the engine is essentially the same all the way to the end of 23. Time will tell if there are more. Overall the build quality was good and its a great riding truck that does 90% of what any home owner would need for a small truck.
@joe, oh wow! I drive a 21 RTL, mostly in the Rockies. I’ve have yet to have any of the issues that you have pointed out. Love the paddle shifters In varying grade & adverse weather conditions, rarely use my brakes. So far - So good
Thank for you for videos. 2019 Passport, AWD, 9AT. Experiencing hard shifts at the 3rd-4th gear change at around 35mph especially under light acceleration going downhill but only sometimes. Seems more like an engine hold back (though not in sport mode) so like 3000rpm then a hard shift. Dealer changed all fluids (diff, trans, transfer) 1000 miles back no change in behavior.
I have the 2019 Pilot with 6 speed trans and bought it used with 34k miles on it. I noticed within a couple of weeks of owning it that the transmission would shudder at lower rpm. When using cruise control the rpm's would jump up and down. Did some research online and came to the same conclusion as this video that the transmission fluid had to be drained and filled.
I've put about 15k miles on it since the drain the fill and no problems so far. Most sources online are recommending a drain and fill every 30k miles so I think I'll stick with that.
Other than that I haven't had any other problems with the car. It drives nice and actually handles surprisingly well for such a large vehicle. It's a great road trip car. We've crossed the country 3 times in it so far and the only complaint I have is that the seats could be softer. I have the LX so it's cloth seats. Not a problem for daily driver but not great for 8+ hours of driving.
Thanks for sharing and best of luck with it going forward 👍🏻
Thank you for letting me know. I would’ve not thought about the shifter and water damage since the cup holder is so close. I would have thought they would have a gasket to prevent that.
There’s a seal but it really doesn’t do much tbh
Thanks for another great video with good information.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for video and sharing your experiences
Thanks for watching
Thanks for posting common problems. I had an additional issue with variable cylinder timing at 35 miles an hour on my 2019. The truck would rumble and vibrate when going at that cruising speed. I researched the problem and there were devices you could buy to prohibit the issue. Truly liked the truck, but getting honda to do anything about it. ah! Great trucks, but nothing I own has been so annoying to me. Ended up getting rid of it.
Hey man sorry to hear, chances are you had a faulty front and/or rear mount not allowing proper absorbing of the vibrations. Most techs will completely overlook that. What did you end up replacing it with?
I ended up buying a 4runner to replace it. I am more a toyota owner than Honda, but Honda still makes great vehicles. I found many individuals experiencing the same issue. It only would occur at cruising speed. Thanks
@@jakeguzman8455 👍🏻👍🏻
My 2020 Ridgeline charging ports for the phone connection failed. Dealer stated that there could be a short in the wire harness. It also effected the display and needed to be replaced. At that point I looked into offers for a new model and got the 2023 Ridgeline. Other than the short, the truck performance is excellent. Who ever buys that truck won’t be disappointed once fixed.
Appreciate your input
We have a 2020 pilot and there was a recall on a harness that affected the infotainment screen. May be the same thing you are describing.
Flickering lights in the 2017 was addressed in a little known Service Bulletin. Also a SB for the pushbutton ignition.
Correct
2009 Ridgeline here with 127K miles. Only issue I’m currently having is that it’ll burn oil so I have to keep an eye on it in between oil changes. My son can’t wait to get it when he turns sixteen. It’s a keeper!
Thanks for the video, because I plan to get a newer model in a couple of years.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
I had a 2017 that was stolen, was replaced with a 2021 Ridgeline exl with 17,000km on it now, the 2017 felt more peppy under light throttle and shift gears with out drama. my biggest gripe with the 2021 Ridgeline is the way it shift gears especially the first two or three gear, holding the gears like it is in sport mode, but lower the rpm at highway speeds.the other gripe is the hood don't perfectly line up the the bar that goes from one headlight to the other, rubber adjusters don't make a difference which way you turn them, seem to be a larger Gap between the hood and this bar on the passenger side vs the driver side.
appreciate your input. We’re they both 6at or 9at?
Great info , telling the truth is rare thanks .
Thank you 🙌
2019 RTLE here. 52k miles, with 10k towing 3300lb travel trailer. As soon as I noticed transmission shutter I took it to the dealer for trans flush. After flush shutter was still there. Turns out the Honda dealer here will not replace the trans fluid filter.. they deny it exists! So I changed the fluid again myself and did the filter. No more shutter. Great truck, hope to keep it for years and years to come. Thanks for the great video
Awesome and thanks for sharing. Sorry your had to deal with their ignorance.
Mazda is the same way.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
There isn't a transmission fluid filter. Why are you claiming that exists? It doesn't. Your transmission fluid has no filter.
@@VirtualTurkey there is, I changed it!
'18 RTL-T. Hood skin separation from frame. Found just out of warranty and dealer wouldn't even talk about fixing it even though it had a TSB out about it. Bought the bonding glue and fixed it myself. Squirrelly cruise control at interstate speeds much improved by installing VCM delete device. Runs like a different truck since adding. Overall very pleased with it though.
Thanks for sharing, disappointing how some dealers won’t even attempt repairs smh. Glad your overall pleased with the ridgeline 👍🏻
@@440tomcat yes the hood one is straight forward. The bed cover only applies if you have one and if it’s oem.
@@440tomcat yup, sounds about right. Probably works better anyways lol
Thanks for the honest feedback and insight. My dad has a 2018 with 10k miles and the 6 speed trans so it’s good to learn that we should start thinking about a trans fluid change.
Yes! definitely keep an eye on it and would recommend fluid service every 15-20k. Thanks for watching
Crazy low miles on that Ridgeline!
I have 172k miles, definitely change the ATF after I do it after every 3rd oil change ~15kmile to 20k miles
Also thoughts on VCM?
@@hukmai awesome! Glad to hear that’s working out for you. I would leave the vcm alone tbh, hasn’t been and issue on these particular engines.
Transmission failure 115K miles. No heavy towing and did transmission fluid change at dealer. Also had tailgate harness failure. This is a pretend truck.
2018 RTL-E hood flutters when a big truck passes by or from the blowers at a car wash. Dealer re-glued hood spars but still does the same thing. Recalled to inspect the hood latch but haven't acted on it yet.
I had 2018 RTL-E and had the annoying hood flutter. I have a 2020, and the hood doesn't flutter at all. I also had the hood latch recall fixed
2019 RTL owner. Rear window was replaced because of wind noise when I first purchased it. Had several small recalls since I purchased it brand new, currently has a fuel pump recall. Waiting to hear from Honda to see if my vin is one of the recalled trucks. Transmission felt weird a couple of years ago. Dealer made adjustment. Just had the tranny fluid changed in 2023. Truck only has 40k plus miles on it. I drive it maybe once a week. Kinda losing faith in the newer Honda vehicles. We still own our 1997 Honda Accord which we purchased new. It currently has 2000K miles on it. Has no rattles. It's an amazing car. I have my 2009 Honda CRV, with 188K miles on it. It even spent two years in Denver. Now it's back home in California. It has been a wonderful vehicle. Only had a few small recalls. My favorite Honda so far. I heard the Ridgeline might have another recall concerning the engine. If that is correct, I will be selling this vehicle and going with a Toyota Tacoma.
Thanks for sharing your experience
Perhaps it's too new thus far, but it would be great to see a similar type of video on the 19-22 insight! I haven't been able to find much about it like I could with the 10th gen civic. Perhaps it's because it's much newer, or that it's not as common, or both. Either way, it would be great to hear from a tech!
Hey man, yeah o can probably get that done when one actually comes in 🤣. Like you said, fairly new and fairly problem free in part due to the low numbers produced and sold.
I have 2019 ridgeline fully loaded, custom tires, and rims running boards, etc... my torque converter went out at 35,000 miles after doing some investigation I found that to be a problem for this model. The honda dealer gave me the runaround for about two visit, I told them fix the truck and stop wasting our time. That's my time and his time. The job took approximately 8 to 9 days to complete. Happy to say they did a great job. This problem looms over honda owners, who are unaware of this problem. Honda is disingenuous in that the torque converter should have been a factory fix, instead of allowing the torque converter to run it's course, meaning if it breakes down during warranty they fix, out of warranty you fix which can be a 4 or 5 thousand $ bill. Trans can last from 200 to 300 thousand miles not just 30 or 40 thousand miles. Bad Honda. Thanks for the😊 up dates.
Thanks for sharing Nd sorry for your experience
06 RT, 280k miles, only replaced a/c compressor, rear half axle, radiator (thankfully leaked externally and detected before i knew about SMOD, bypassed trans fluid going into radiator on new install), otherwise normal maintenance. Great vehicle, great in snow.
Just bought a 23 Ridgeline RTL has 88 miles on it now had it for 3 days. Had Hondas for the last 15 years this is my first Ridgeline. Loving it so far. Lots of compliments on the sonic gray.
Awesome! Congrats and good luck with it.
Did you replace your timing belt?
Big Mistake. They are crap boxes and you'll get recalls within a year. good luck. you're going to need it.
@@stricklandgarageaviation2864 why would I do that? The truck has 7,000 miles on it
@@robertfreeman2322 never had a bad Honda yet.
Had the 2019 Rtl-e, you were spot on with the few issues, now just bought the 2023 Rtl-e and have this weird noise from the engine, whirring noise cycling from the front left of engine, started after 1000mi, brought to 2 different dealers 3 time and always told this was normal> NOT normal, after listini9ng to another 2023. No codes yet (I have a good scanner) It is definably not normal. The cycling whirring noise is worse after warm up, can even slightly hear it in the drivers seat with the windows rolled up. Any ideas would certainly be welcomed
Hey man appreciate your input. By front of the engine do you mean firewall side (back head) by timing cover? If you rev it does the noise worse, diminish? Possibly try to take a stethoscope and isolate it to head, block, cylinder….going to be extremely hard for me to pinpoint. Lmk 👍🏻
I have 180,000 kms and never experienced any serious problems with my 2019 Honda Ridgeline Sport. I still have the original brake pads lol Truth be told, I have driven my vehicle mostly on the highway than in the city. The most money I spent on the maintenance was the front struts assembly which cost me around $2500+ when I reached 175,000 kms (roads are bad in Quebec)
Appreciate you sharing and that’s awesome to hear! Best of luck with it moving forward!
Great trucks. I had to replace both headlights because of leaks but warranty covers them
Appreciate the input!
Love our 2023, with one exception-- water leaking into the cab. So far we've found two leaks, one coming from a bad seal in the rear window, and another from the bed where it mates to the cab (on both drive & passenger sides) sealant between the two was completely missing. Because the padding underneath the carpet acts like a sponge, most people won't know about the water leaking into the cab unless they lift up the floor mats; that's how we discovered the problem with our truck. Turns out this is a very common problem since 2017, with several different water entry points identified.
Nice job I’m isolating those yourself 👏
2019 RTL - 33K miles
I've been VERY proactive on fluid changes.
I have the jutter between 1500 - 1700 rpm
I'm on my second Ridgeline. The 06 I bought used with 155000 on it never, ever let me down. I picked up a 2023 in late 2022. So far so good. More power. Better gas mileage. Smoother ride. It's a very nice truck.
Awesome, congrats and thanks for sharing
Thanks for the vid. No major issues on my 2017 ridgey with 41k miles. Warped rotors very early on just like you said and now I’ve got a squeaky hvac fan.
Good to know! Appreciate the feedback
Same. J replaced my warped rotors
The cruise control accel on my 2024 black edition is delayed by several seconds. It's annoying and even dangerous when I'm trying to add 5mph increments on the highway. Also, the brakes are terrible, often requiring a double pump to get enough braking. Not to mention the vibration and shuddering caused by the VCM system, which will lead to premature wear. I paid a ridiculous amount of money for this truck and I'm disappointed, overall. I've owned several Honda vehicles over the years and I've never been disappointed in any of them until this Ridgeline. I expect better than this from Honda, but it seems all manufacturers have had a decline in quality in recent years, even Honda and Toyota.
2019 honda ridgeline Sport with 6 speed transmission haven't come across any issues except fuel pump recall it's been great so far
Glad to hear, not everyone will experience the issues I spoke about but they are happening. Appreciate the input and best of luck with it 👍🏻
Very informative. Thanks! I've had Toyotas for years. I maintain my cars well and try to keep them for a long time. I'm looking to get a '23 or '24 Ridgeline. Since the J35Y engine is Direct Injection only (My Toyotas have PI & DI.), is there a problem with carbon buildup on the intake valves?
Thanks for watching and kind words. Yes there is carbon buildup although has not been an issue thus far. Which honda incorporated port injection but unfortunately that’s not my call to make lol
I have a 2017 Ridgeline and the only issue I have is while going down the road approximately 41 mph I can feel like a shutter but if I press on the gas pedal real good and go past the 41 mph I don't feel anything it's nice and smooth. The shutters seems to happen at lower speeds also and higher speeds, Honda has already replaced the filter and transmission fluid to no avail. Other than that I have no issues I really love this truck.
VCM-It is your variable cylinder management system. It shuts off three cylinders under light load. It's designed to do this. I could feel it in mine too. If it bothers you that much, you can get something called a VCM muzzler, online, for about $100. It makes the engine run on 6 cylinders all the time. It didn't bother me that much, so I never got one. All the other TSB's, recalls, did bother me, and I did have the judder in the trans too. Honda fixed it for free, but I still got rid of the truck. I had lost confidence in it, and Honda. Good luck with yours.
@@kennethgrutter9406 thank you so much I will ask Honda the next time I'm in there for an
oil change.
Like Kenneth mentioned most likely vcm engagement or slight judder. I would recommend a muzzler and checking out fluid condition and proceed as needed.
2017 RTS awd purchased new. 23000 6spd AT had serious shudder - dealer did a drain/fill/reprogram and problem solved. 5 months/5000mi later, problem returned. Dealer charged for diagnosis, claimed AT had no issues and stated rf cv axle is causing vibration & offered to change for $800. I don't have confidence in this conclusion as vehicle drives/brakes silky smooth below operating temp and in gears 1-5. I got underneath and did not find any play in the axle. Not sure where to go with this.
How’s your fluid look? A quick dipstick pull should tell a lot. If it’s brown/black it’s most likely fluid deterioration and/or torque converter. I have a video explaining axle vibration and it’s usually pretty aggressive especially on acceleration if you want to check it out. If your getting a judder while maintaining speed/slight up hill it’s probably the torque converter which can get confirmed reading some data. I’m inclined to think they may not being honest with your unfortunately. Although I can’t confirm from here.
Great Video, very informative and appreciate the insight! I have a long daily commute with my 2019 Ridgeline and have had the transmission judder pretty bad back at 56k miles. The dealer hit me for $400 for a double flush and "software update" to address it. At 76k miles now and i think the judder is gone, but im starting to get a burning smell through the vents after the vehicle is stopped after heating up. no oil/coolant/breaks...is the diff fluid something I should check on as well? the Tranny again? just not sure I like the idea of flushing my transmission every few oil changes. thanks!
Not sure about the smell typically you won’t smell it even if it’s juddering until doing the fluid. Possibly something stuck to the exhaust (plastic most likely). I would definitely be doing another 2-3 time trans flush again at this time as well as front and rear diff fluids.
I think the models need to be broken up into 2017-2019 and 2020-2023 the later years got the 9 speed tranny, someone mentioned the 9 speed was German made, it costs $30 a qt for the 9 speed fluid. I guess that makes it German made enough. But you are right on the fluid, I have a 2023 and the tranny fluid is watery as hell.
Believe it or not you rather have the 9 speed vs the 6 speed. The amount of times you’ll have to change the fluid on the 6 speed you’ll end up spending more anyways.
Just replace my purchased new 2007 with a 2023. Longest I’d ever owned a vehicle before that was 4 years. Kind of says it all regarding the Ridgey
Sounds like you had an awesome experience l, let’s hope this one treats you just as well. Congrats
Beautiful truck
I know your channel’s name has Honda in it, but do you have any experience with other trucks? I’m trying to decide between a Honda Ridgeline, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon. Unfortunately most other reviewers out there don’t have much or any experience with the Honda Ridgeline to accurately compare it to the other midsized trucks.
Most of the time I dont have drinks in my honda but when I do I use a isulated bottle or when I buy coffe I put a microfiber rag on top of the shifter consule just in case , 5 years of ownership and no issues with that
💯 the right way to do it. Nice job
My 2021 Ridgeline in Canada condensation in front headlights, apple car play freezes, volume freezes, wireless phone charger doesn’t work after charging about 30 seconds. 9 speed tranny takes way too long to switch gears from reverse to drive. Besides that tranny works great but the delay from R to D can ba dangerous in certain situations.
Thanks for sharing
I've been researching vehicles hard for the past couple of years, and all I can say is; They don't build them like they used too. Sad times we are living in considering how expensive they are.
Your absolutely correct
Early 2G Ridgelines had problems with the ACs hose leaking and needing replacement. Early 2Gs also had problems with the alarm system randomly triggering along with the gauge clusters lighting up as a result of some sort of ignition issue.
👍🏻👍🏻
After 162k mile the alarm Smart control Module went out on my ridgeline. My neighbors definitely hated me for those sporadic weeks 😂
@@hukmai haha yeah that’s a pretty horrible experience, always happens at the worst possible time too 🤣
@@hukmai i disconnected the hood latch wire harness. Solved the problem of random alarms in the middle of the night
@Dman79 yeah I read that was one of the temporary fixes, went to the dealer to get it replaced out of warranty a cool $1.2k
Interesting, thanks for sharing. But why should there be ANY defects at all?? Do drivers actually ask for defects? Then why should anyone have to put up with any problems that they never caused?
No, shouldn’t have to put up with defects. Defects and common problems are two different things.
I have a 2020 ridgeline and the adaptive cruise control is very bad. It sense vehicles to the left and does not senses the car in front until the last seconds or after I hit the breaks and turn on the adaptive cruise control back on. Dealership that I bought from states because it is high and a truck. I had previously drove a 2017 crv and 2019 odyssey with adaptive cruise control with no issues. The dealership did not want to check it and then I am not going to take it back to them. Thank you for sharing.
Hey have you adjusted the distance parameters by chance? It can brake more aggressively or with more distance if you set it, or should I should say. If it doesn’t then there’s something wrong. Maybe take it to a different dealer for a second opinion?
@@BCautosolutions Thanks for the update. Yes I have adjusted distance and the same issues. I plan on taking it to a different dealership. Also the auto engine stop is very bothersome. You hear and feel it shuts off the engine and starts up again. I like the front wheel drive.
I had a 2006 ridgeline with 150,000 miles. 1 new timing belt, regular service and tires. No problems. Now have a 2019 with 47,000 miles no problems so far. Great vehicle.
Awesome! Appreciate the input
I have a 2018 Ridgeline RTL-E and the Auto high beam keeps going off so when no cars are coming at me at night my High beams do not go back on. I keep resetting the Auto beams per Honda instructions but the problem persists.
2022 Ridgeline Black Edition here. Great little truck. I love it. However, a nagging leak that leaves the windows fogged on rainy days and a terrible infotainment system kills a potentially perfect vehicle. I absolutely hate the fact that I can’t turn the vehicle off and continue to listen to the radio without rebooting the system, which takes at least 30 seconds.
Valid points, thanks!
I have mine for 33k miles. Very nice ride and no issue so far. I don't know i should buy back or buy another new 2024.
Its all new with stop and go for traffic jam. I do get a lot in nyc. This is the only drawback.
Keep the one you have, the rates are horrible right now.
Warped rotors are a real thing. 10k miles on my 2023 leased Ridgeline and I have to have them resurfaced already. Day to day driving, no towing, and no heavy loads. I really like the versatility of the Ridgeline, but the rotors being so undersized is an issue Honda needs to address.
Thanks for sharing and I agree.
My 18 is a roadtrip warrior. 53,000 hwy miles. Only issue other than the rear doors restricted opening...I fixed...was an issue driving in very deep snow. I bent the metal shroud/skid plate and it was rubbing on the drive shaft...easy fix.
I was doing some research on them and apparently you can get a longer Check Strap for the door. It significantly improves the door opening by about 4 or 5 inches. It’s was another You Tuber and I just watched it a few days ago. Will check for you.
Another issue I had with mine was the paint (white pearl). Started coming off in big flakes off the rear quarter panel and tailgate. No bonds or accidents, but a problem with Honda white paint sticking to primer. Fixed under warranty. In the paint shop there was an white Odyssey with the same thing
Haven’t heard of that one before. I believe it tho, thanks for sharing
2019 RTL-T here. I have the transmission shudder issue. I have been stuck in stop and go traffic twice when the outside temp was in the high 90's. The transmission felt like it couldn't decide what gear to be in until it cooled down some. Perhaps a trans cooler would help. Also, my sunroof will sometimes open and then refuse to close ( I hate sunroofs and wish Honda would stop putting them on their vehicles) I found a reprogramming hack on the interweb that corrects it temporarily, but after 2 or 3 openings it forgets again. Honda seems to be losing it's grip on quality control.
Sorry to hear, trans cooler on any of these heavier vehicles is a must and great idea imo, towing or not.
Had a ‘12, ‘17 & now a ‘19. ‘17 was the best, two rear hub failures in the ‘19 at 60k miles. More squeaks & rattles too.
Thanks for sharing!
I have a 23 Ridgeline and the major issue I have is with the text to speech. When I receive a text I have the system read it and the volume will only go to 11 which is way too low to hear unless you’re stopped.
I’ll have to try and see if this is a general max level, which would suck for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Great video just bought 2019 Honda RidgelineRtl 4 years and 4 months old only 4890 miles on it. Was kept in garage. Anything I should have checked out at Honda dealer next time I go in for my 5 k oil change?
Thanks
Wow congrats, that’s amazing. With 5k mileages there’s probably not much it needs although I would do filters, oil change, wipers, etc.

I have a 2019 ridgeline code po300 301 po304 p219A I reset codes it goes for a few day and it come back what you think is it
Received a 23 black edition in December, pretty decent so far. Not a fan at all of the push button trans.
Awesome! Yeah I don’t hate the buttons but don’t love them either and I own 2 vehicles with them 🤣
I have a 2023 Ridgeline....if you are driving on the interstate and a large truck is in front of you there is a rattle sound coming from the front....it only does it if something large in front of you...
Yeah that’s odd and probably going to be nearly impossible to pinpoint unfortunately. If you do happen to get it fixed, please report back.
Do those things even have a trans cooler with having to replace the fluid that often? AT's are Hondas Achilles heel. I change my 8th gen civic ATF every 30K but it looks like the 1.5T engine is the new Honda goof.
Even without towing anything, they burn up fluid quickly (6at)
Great videos! If you could drive and own 1 Honda/Acura, what would it be? Thx.
I have a pilot and a tlx type S but would love to have an nsx type S. That’s the long term goal
My 2018 interrupts the audio with the voice portal asking for a command without notice or initiation my me, anyone else experiencing this?
I have a 2021 passport I took it in for its first oil change and mention that the trans made loud clunking noise when switch to reverse or drive randomly. Also it seems to be hunting for gears. They performed a inspections and it passed and couldnt “replicate” my concerns. I took it in again at 9k miles and mentioned the same results… Do you think im over reacting? I just dont want to be in this when my warranty of 5 years or 60k miles is up and it decides to take a shit 😒
Thanks in advance with your input. I wish you were out here in socal. Its hard to find and honest mechanic 😂
First off thanks for watching.
So without hearing/feeling it or any trouble code it’s very difficult to have a fix if it’s even that. We do have to realize there’s a ton of things going on at once and there could be hiccups here and there. It’s documented so I’m the event something happens in the future even out of warranty you can always refer back to your concern. Point is, keep mentioning even if it’s not an issue but you think it might be. Hope this helps
Have you encounted a concern of MIL flashing with the diagnosis being moisture build up in the intake? In the Canadian winter I've been swamped with them. Also, the tailgate harness is a Recall here in Canada!
Negative. Interesting, is there a “fix” for them? Just the ridgelines or passport, pilots, odysseys as well?
@@BCautosolutions no 'fix' yet, we have encountered this mostly when the truck has been sitting outside for many days when the temp is before -20°C. And short trips. Honda says the problem is normal. Just like what they said about frozen starters
@@willdickson6761 🤦🏻♂️ keep me posted on Honda stays with their claims here. I already knew about the starters and their “fix” for that lol
I’m in Nova Scotia and have not heard of the build up in intakes yet. I’ll have to be on the look out
Loved your video on the Ridgeline. I have an 18 Black, and occationally i get a light on the dash that tells me I have a transmission and side traffic indicator problem. I took it to the dealer when I was complaining of it shuddering or dooging at about 1200 - 1400 rpm. The dealer checked it out and told me I needed my transmission flushed. They also told me I was having trouble with my side indicator lights. $650 later it was running better... ...for about 4000 miles. That was when I got my first dash light msg.
Can you suggest a fix, prefferably under $300?
Which issue came back! The judder, lights, or both?
@@BCautosolutions The shudder didn't come back but the light on the dash and gear indicator above the steering wheel went to N. And the side traffic indicator stopped working , until I shut it off and restarted it.
@@davidforan298 🤦🏻♂️ that’s unfortunate
Something about rod bearing or some engine issue on some ridgelines from 17-20 year models that will need engines replaced ? Coming soon recall ? I saw something on this somewhere. Any info you have on this ??
There is an active recall already but no parts/procedure info. As soon as there is something I will make a video. ETA on full release in Jan.
I am concerned about the starter push button. I have replaced it once - very easy job! The new one is having its issues as well. Any suggestions? 2017 all wheel drive RL. 68k miles. 7 th Honda since 1983. One Civic and one Accord with 220k + miles on them!
Believe there is a warranty extension on them
One thing I hate about mine is after restarting you have to press the start stop disable every time you restart engine. Wish it would just stay off
You can buy idle stop/start canceler to eliminate that
Thank You. I have a 2017 Ridgeline. The blower motor seems to whistle at higher speeds. (Like 4-6) Is this a common issue? I have read a lot of forums and it seems like bad bearings in the blower motor...
I have seen it before across the whole lineup.
I just got a 2023 Ridgeline AWD RTL-E, and my wife got a 2023 Passport AWD Elite. And her computer software is so much better than mine, everything. Can the computer software that's in the Passport Elite, be put into the Ridgeline.
Congrats ok both purchases but no, it’s not like back in the day. Almost 100% certain it wouldn’t work
I had my 2020 Ridgeline RTL E not go engage into "park" when I pushed "p". The car rolled back down an incline and I got injured. I love the car but the push button transmission is not my favorite. Some times one must push the button more than once to be sure the transmission is engaged
Oh man I’m sorry to hear and hope your ok. It should go into park once you open drivers door.
the door was open obviously thats how I got out What should I do ? you are clearly saying that the transmission is programmed to go into park if you open the drivers door?

Dam. Bro.. i been wanting to upgrade my 2013 Ridgeline for a 2022 model.. but i get nervous to go from column shifter a 5spd transmission to a electric button 9spd....
As a mechanic, Do you recommend to buy the newer Ridgeline or stick to the gen1
in regards of the 9spd and vcm
Vs no vcm vtech n 5spd auto transmission. What do you recommend ??
New one 🫡
Maybe you can help me choose?
Honda Ridgeline
Ford Ranger Lariat
Nissan Frontier
I'm looking for reliability and a durable enough paint. I hear that Honda and Nissan have soft paint. I hear ranger transmission is a hit and miss. I hear and seen how bad the frontier paint can be.
Im picking ridgeline
Hi...thanks for the video, I have a `17 awd that just started doing the hard shift thing at 25-28 mph. It feels like I just ran over a branch in the road. some other things I've read mention the 3rd clutch pressure control module...any thoughts on this?? Thanks
That is correct, we have a ton of 3rd pressure switches failing also giving the harsh about. I would replace it was a 2 or 3x trans svc. Lmk if you have any more questions.
Mine is doing exactly this too. What’s odd is that it is inconsistent, and turning off and then back on the truck seems to “reset” it (which makes no sense to me). Dealer replaced fuel injectors under recall but didn’t seem to help. I’m not following the above reply, what’s the fix (in layman’s terms)?
Also forgets the preset radio stations a lot. Would a battery issue connect to the hard shifting issue, or are they just two separate things?
Thanks in advance!
My 2017 6spd is doing the hard shift at 25mph or so… took to dealer, they replaced fuel injectors but wouldn’t replace torque converter… what I don’t understand is why the hard shift isn’t persistent - if I turn truck off, then restart, it will go away depending on how I accelerate through that shift. You mentioned in a comment below replacing a pressure sensor? Additionally, the truck is constantly forgetting the radio stations… is this a battery problem, and is it related to the hard shifting? (I am not a mechanic at all so please explain to me like the funny I am! Thanks in advance, this is driving me nuts.)
Sounds like you may have a pressure switch starting to fail causing an intermittent hard shift. Your loss of radio memory could be the battery losing connection or starting to fail. Could also need an audio unit. Tough to say without having some data in front of me.
Hello hello! Do you happen to have a video addressing the first gen Ridgeline?! Currently shopping for one and should be making a purchase by the end of this month. I would think any issues would be similar to other 3.5L V6 platforms like the Pilot? but maybe other things regarding the truck-bed rust I heard about (recall) would be specific to the first gen alone...
I do not, it’s honestly hard to come across one. My biggest concerns would be trans, leaks, suspension just like the pilots and be out the lookout for rust if the vehicle was in the rust belt.
@@BCautosolutions do you mean the SMOD I've heard of? seems it involves components corroding on the radiator. and definitely been shopping outside of this Boston area...! usually the tow-hitch is a giveaway I've noticed in the pics!
@@brandonbriscoe4712 I mean body rust specifically around the rear punch welds and subframes mounts/fuel tank strap mounts. The one the active recall “addresses”
Great Video, I just purchased a 2021 Ridgeline w 26k miles and seems oil changes been done by dealers since new according to carfax, I recently changed my oil and the splash guard has been cut to change the filter easier but it does expose most of main pully. Granted, it was much much easier to replace the filter, should I be concerned about the exposed drive pully or not worry about it?
Not at all, I cut it all the time and on my own cars as well, never had any issues.
@@BCautosolutions great. I was hoping you would say that. What works amazing! Is the 8” or so take out circular black containers you get from
Restaurants. It fits under filter perfect and you can let filter drain into it. Zero mess
Hondas automatic transmissions were problematic and often failed without warning. As a former Honda tech, i was changing around a dozen a week in various Honda/Acura models. You definitely want to make sure you only use Honda transmission fluid. Its around 10 bucks a quart, but use of other brands or the commercially available friction modifiers is not recommended and will typically cause immediate erratic shifting/slipping.
When I started in 2008 we would do probably 15-20 a week. Sad times lol
I'm just curious, my 2017 ridgeline walk away door lock feature has stopped working, and any thoughts?
I have attempted to reset, but with no luck.
Possibly something with the keyless access unit/system.
Hi I have and issue with my gas leveller on my
17 Ridgeline
But the pump did you said there was a recall on them ?
@@antonslutskiy8039 yes but for the actual pump, nothing to do with the fuel level sensor. Most likely a different issue
PLACE IN PARK appears in display multiple times when I try to go forward? Strange, I just give it gas and it goes away. Any thoughts?

I was thinking of buying a ridge line wanted the 24 trail sport. The main reason I thought Honda where supposed to be on of the best brands too buy.
I am having second thoughts
Is it worth buying this vehicle
Other brands have issues as well, people just aren’t talking about them in the same way I am.
Just bought a 2023. I love it more every day. I disable auto door lock and turn off the engine stop. That’s too much loss of control for me.
Awesome, congrats and best of luck!
Yeah, that frequent engine cranking is rough on the cam drive belt. You know what can happen if that belt breaks.
2019 honda ridgeline. Over 150k miles on it. Having a problem on shifting, makes a noise and it will jerked around 20-25 mph. Any suggestion? Thanks
Anything you do at this point could finish off the trans. How has the service history on the trans been?
2023 RiTL locking the trunk with the switch by glove box. This makes the tailgate unusable also. Have to toggle switch to use the bed. Can you lock just the lower trunk??
Don’t think so

It’s a nice truck indeed. But to be honest, I love Honda’s 6-speed transmission vs the ZF 9-Speed transmission. My brother’s 2018 Acura MDX ZF unit is clunky and isn’t smooth.
The 6at isn’t bad at all as long as you stay on top of the fluid.
I had problem with my 2022 ridgeline the floor venting is not working heat or ac not flowing out
Something either with the box or the mode motor would be my best guess
do you have any comments about the problems with the VCM?
I don’t. We haven’t seen any oil consumption issues with the earth dreams engines.
I have 2019 RTL-T with 35K...mostly highway, long trips (around 1K miles)...no issues.
Awesome, thanks for sharing
2017 RT lost transmission at 98k miles. Traded for 2019 BE and lost transmission at 124k miles. I drive a lot for work. Truck is empty just me. I tow maybe 2500lbs 4 times a year. I do tow up 10 hours at a time when I do. Just put a new transmission in my 2019BE at 126k miles. They are great trucks, but both transmissions have issues. I like the way the 21 and up look, but don't want the push button transmission.
Thanks for sharing, what was the trans service intervals on both? Also trans cooler installed or no? I’m
I also have a 23 Ridgeline RTL..owned it for a few months now. I love it so far but some issues : The back seat passenger power window sometimes doesn't work ....the truck appears to have a miss in the engine at times , like it needs new spark plugs, Inside , I miss having tuner knobs , like having a volume knob .. its difficult to change stations. The driver's power seat should come up higher for shorter drivers ,such as women drivers and anyone under 5 foot 9 . I have driven a Tacoma for long distances , which I didn't like due to the ride and the transmission was constantly downhifting and upshifting driving on the highway at highway speeds .. so the Ridgeline is better. What are you thoughts on these issues ?
Sounds like you may have a faulty window regulator. The misfire I would definitely address you concern with you dealer, should be nice and smooth. The knob situation is frustrating so I hear that. Drivers seat adjustment should fair well my wife is 5’2’’ and has no problem driving our pilot with basically the same seats. I don’t foresee that being an issue for 95% of the drivers.
I got a 2019 40k milestrans jitter and lost 5th and 6th gear Trans fluid and filter at 30k service done
Wow that’s unfortunate. Covered under warranty?
@@BCautosolutions we shall see just dropped it off also got a emission and blind spot fault on the way to the dealer
I have a 2019 Ridgeline and in regards to the Gen 2 what problems are you seeing due to VCM? There are lots of theoretical opinions out there on it causing issues, but what are you actually seeing?
We aren’t seeing any failures here at my dealer. Some people are more sensitive then others to vibrations but we have zero complaints. What we do have complaints of are vibrations/judders from the 6at Trans. I have a full video on my thoughts on vcm if your interested. Called “Honda / Acura vcm 101”

I have a 2022 Ridgeline. I have a noise/clunk when taking off and when stopping. It sounds like a metal object or rock slides to the back and hits something when taking off. The same happens when I apply the brakes, an object slides forward and clunks against a wall or something.
Have you every found an object getting in the undercarriage trays, plastic protection covers?
I have not but I suspect you have something sliding around like you are thinking as well.
My 2018 Ridgeline RTL is showing electronic alerts (Blind Spot Info System problem and then flashing to Transmission System Problem). I had this happen last week and have over 130k miles. I turned the truck off and the alerts went away until today. I also had it serviced and checked (not by Honda) and they said everything looks fine. Have you heard of this?

I have a 2019 Ridgeline. In January 2023 , I noticed the gas pedal would vibrate going up hill at a steady 45mph. The tachometer needle bounces back and forth in a short span in the gauge. It has been so slight that I don’t know if I can get to act up for the dealership (I paid extra for an 8 year bumper to bumper warranty). Should I have them replace the transmission fluid or replace the torque converter ? It has
50k miles just this week. Thank you.
Have them perform a couple of trans services. Also try to get a video of the rpm’s voicing. If they can duplicate it tho and send data to Honda they won’t be covering a torque converter if that’s what it really needs, in most cases trans services and pcm fixes it.
@@BCautosolutionsThank you for the advice! I will plan to do that. What is a PCM?
@@BCautosolutions I had my trusty local auto repair shop change the transmission fluid in the Ridgeline, with about 50k miles on it. That did the trick! It's been 1 week since the change. No more vibration or tac needle bouncing! I will plan to do that every 2 years going forward. Also, there was another Ridgeline in the parking lot there. I asked about it, and he said it had the same problem that mine has, but had 75k miles on it, and now required that the torque converter be replaced. He said that it's a good thing that I got my transmission fluid serviced sooner. Thanks a lot for the advice!
