  • In this video I’ll walk you through some of the lighting automations I have in my node red, based on motion sensors.
    We’ll look at each room and cover off some exceptions which I’ve catered for including using a join-wait node, and a separate occupancy sensor.

    Hey. Great stuff. I liked and subscribed when you were explaining your flow and discussed the automation on/off node. What a great idea. I'll definitely use it!

    Hi, love your setup. Very well explained and I'm definitely going to steal some tricks to continue my node red journey.
    But I also might have a simpler solution to your cave occupancy flow. I'm using a Shelly 1 PM to detect if I'm in my office or not. My monitor is connected to this Shelly and if the monitor is asking for power the lights go on. This ofcourse could only work if you always use the monitor if your in your office but in my situation it works great. (Of course any smart socket should work if it has power measurement)
    Only downside is that the lights will only turn on after the monitor is on. So when entering the room I first have to start my laptop. Most of the time some daylight is more then enough to overcome this but I might add a movement or door sensor similar to your front door flow to be a bit more user-friendly.

    Thanks Will for the great video, How did you get the "for" option in state node? I do not have that in my default state node. My NR addon is up-to-date.

    Really wished you opened up the nodes when going through them. Then we could se how you did it.

    Great video! Thank you! :)
    Do you know there is any option in Node-Red to sync the lights with the colors on the screen on my iMac when I watch a RUclips or any movie? like Philips sync box or some TV's LED strip...

    For one of the "join-wait" node, you mentioned one has a time-out of 90 seconds; what's the timeout for the other one? Thank you

    Great video, I followed this but have an issue as I am triggering a shelly 1, when I use the wall switch to turn lights on manually, it still turns off lights as is if it was triggered by the motion sensor, is this part missing from the video?

    Amazing video man maybe you can make a video with lx to use to automation the lights in node red

    • @WillSurridgeTech
      @WillSurridgeTech  3 года назад

      what do you mean? what's lx?

    • @jolmav9400
      @jolmav9400 3 года назад +1

      @@WillSurridgeTech I think what Henk De Boer is asking is the same concern that I have. Let me explain: I have an Aqara motion sensor which has, in addition to the motion sensor, also a brightness sensor (it is measured in lx).
      I want to do an automation in Node-Red where when detecting movement and that the luminosity is less than 300 lx, the lights of the area where the sensor is located are turned on. In other words, for the automation to run, these two conditions must be met.

    I really wish you would label your videos - so if you are explaining something that has a dependency on say Home Assistant they label it - Home Assistant/Node Red LIGHT AUTOMATIONS - it would save having to go through adverts and opening blurb only to find the critical dependency is Home Assistant. So very helpful to Home Assistant users, thank you .. but for everyone else..

    Will in your opening intro video, you have a nice shadow, curved edge to home assistant lovelace. What add in is that?

      I can’t remember tbh, I don’t have that view any more - I think it was probably just a shadow using css in the style bit of the card

    I've got load cell weighing sensors under my bed legs connected to a D1 Mini then integrated with home assist. Between a certain time in the evening if get out of bed it automatically turns on the bedroom, hall & bathroom lights then switches them back off when I lay in bed.
    I still need to solve light automation for when I'm just in the lounge watching TV as I don't need the other lights on during this time. What motion sensors did you use?

    • @WillSurridgeTech
      @WillSurridgeTech  3 года назад +1

      I’ve got quite a few (blitzwolf, Neos, some cheap zigbee one, and hue) and I have to admit hue is the best - battery lasts a whole lot longer, much more sturdy, and having temperature and lux in the same unit is great

    • @lukfilipski
      @lukfilipski 3 года назад

      Dave, try integrating your TV and reading it's state (even most cheap TVs have some smart capabilities; alternatively you could use a power monitoring socket) - it's what I use as one of the conditions to run the night light automation

    Hello guys!
    I AM NOT STUPID believe me! But I really need to learn the basic well before I jump into making NOD Automations here and there!
    Do you know a good reference to learn NOD and connecting sensors and etc.?
    Since I am a bit lazy I want to learn what libraries are there to use? For example in this vide, the calender and light control was amazing! But I didn't know if this is on NOD or I shud install it.
    Lots of appreciation and good energy to you from Sweden! :)

    Will I LOVE your videos, thanks man! But I'm finally gonna say it: your thumbnails are crazy... that gaping mouth thing... yikes. You're not the only youtuber I see doing it, but it's a super weird trend.
    Again, I mean no malice, and look your channel. Just sharing my opinion on your thumbnails, which is ultimately a trivial subject. Cheers friend
