  • Joining the firebox to the bbq smoker cook chamber is arguably one of the most difficult, yet important aspects of building a BBQ Offset Smoker. In the video we will join the firebox to my 500 gallon cook chamber.

    The throat opening was the scariest part for me. Eventually i had to cut two more inches off the smoke chamber to make it work/fit right. Looking good so far! We ended up going with an insulated rectangular firebox with half of a 120 gallon tank as the liner.

    Oh, I remember that green coating. It was a bitch to grind off. I was not able to burn it off like you did (the city I live in would have sent out the fire department and charge me for it).
    That coating is for rust protection. That pipe was nent to be directed bury in the ground.

    So you should have actually cut the hole bigger on the pit itself that way the Firebox can actually slide into the pit and not be welded flush against it and you would have not have needed all the spare metal. From Texas BBQ capital in Alaska welding on boats in the Bering Sea

    • @MeatNGreetBBQ
      @MeatNGreetBBQ  Год назад

      Thanks for the support brother! It was a real consideration nearly through the entire build. However, I never ended up pulling the trigger bc I knew that this would probably be the only project I’d work on that would warrant a plasma cutter probably within the next 5 years. Also I wasn’t fond of the learning curve given I was under a huge time crunch to finish this project. Not sure if it was all the right train of thought but it worked out haha.

    Just throwing this out there. That liner may be sewer pipe. If it is at all used I wouldn’t use it because burning it out may not fully get rid of the residual h2s

    • @MeatNGreetBBQ
      @MeatNGreetBBQ  Год назад

      It was a new pipe when I bought it. Had a guy cut it off a MASSIVE piece of pipe. It’s just rolled steel with that film over it. But good call on the sewer pipe that would have been all bad! 😅

    • @MeatNGreetBBQ
      @MeatNGreetBBQ  7 месяцев назад

      I’d play around with it but I put mine just slightly below grate level. Mine was semi insulated so where the actual fire is compared to where the fire is is visually is a lot lower.

    Were both of your tanks elipticle ends? If so would cutting a circle work to combine the 2? Both my 500 and 250 tanks are elipticle and am looking to figure out how to combine

      Hey brother. I would suggest joining the propane tank smoker Facebook forum. I honestly have no real way of explaining what I did in this message that would be more detailed than the video we made. One take was round and the firebox was flat with curved edges, so it was a pain to figure out.

    I'm really surprised I haven't seen a comment with this: PLEASE WEAR A FACE SHIELD WHILE USING GRINDERS. If one of those wheels comes apart, goggles are WHOLLY INSUFFICIENT to protect your FACE from fragments flying off after spinning at 11,000 RPM.

    You should’ve packed insulation in that gap all the way around your firebox with the high heat insulation then you would’ve had a solid fire box even better but good job bro

    • @MeatNGreetBBQ
      @MeatNGreetBBQ  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment and sub bro. Means a lot! I specifically wanted a semi-insulated firebox. Insulation coming from the air gap. In my experience fully insulated runs just a little too efficient for the way I build my fires so I opted against fully insulating it.
