Thank you very much for taking the time to demonstrate the Reset 18. I used your instructions after I reset my protosound 2 chip with the MTH make ps chip.
Try putting it on a seperate piece of test track like 4-5 sections .Let the Loco charge up,for about a half hour give it some VOLTAGE!! ,then try the reset after the charging process on the seperate test track.It works!!
@@TomGlodekYes!!! As a last resort,this fellow is exactly right!!Go to a HOBBY SHOP or eBay might be your best option to buy one of those MTH PROTOSOUND RESET CHIPS!! That will fix your engine FOR SURE!! I know a couple guys in the hobby who have that MTH RESET CHIP,and they ALL have had SUCESS fixing their engines with it.Plus,it’s a great tool to have around,just in case you encounter more problems with a PS1 engine,or you find a great deal on one that won’t run,buy it,and that RESET CHIP will most of the time get them back on the layout running like NEW AGAIN.I’m gonna have to pickup one of those MTH RESET CHIPS for myself,by writing this,I realized I could make alot of $$ buying PS1 engines that are not runnning,do the reset chip fix,and resell them!! THANKS!!

I found this method through the advice of several TOP MTH TECHS on the Ogaugerr forum !! My hat is off to those guys!! They will help you when in need,it takes a little while to establish a rapport with them,but they KNOW THIER STUFF!!

Not that I know of my friend.MTH SOLD A SPECIAL “RESET” chip for these engines ,you can probably find one on eBay .That will do the trick,and reset ANY ORIGINAL PROTOSOUND ENGINE.-Sorry it took so long to reply to you.
After reset my ps-1 moves only w/ the Z-4000. On conventional loop w Z-750 it's lites come on but it does not move. Tried multiple times. Thx for your help. Danb
Thanks for your comment.I found out that some PROTOSOUND trains ONLY WORK with a Z-4000 transformer!!! I bought a fabulous Empire State Express model,and it did the same exact thing that your train is doing .I took it to Stockyard Express train store,and it would not run on the test track that had a MTH Brick powering it.The repairman took it over to the main layout,which was powered by the Z-4000,and the ESE TOOK OFF!!He told me,that that is just the way some of the Early PROTOSOUND 1 trains are. I went out and bought a Z-4000,and never had any problems with the model after that.Merry Christmas!!
I have both of these transformers, and it works on both, however, the Z-750, i had to press the direction button 1-3 times quickly in order to get it to move. After that, I haven't had a problem. So odd. I think it was, high voltage on power up, wait 5-10 seconds, low voltage to hear the engine sound change to the buick idle, and then press direction 1-3 taps quickly, and then it took off, and then i adjusted speed as i pleased.

Yes.Try doing it on like four pieces of SEPERATE TRACK from your layout.I don’t know or understand why,but it was suggested to me by guys on the Ogaugerr Forum,and a it worked on a couple of MTH products I had big problems with. Hook the Z-4000 directly up to the new “PROGRAMMING” pieces of track and give it a try .And also,just give the engine VOLTAGE.Let it sit there and just WAKE UP for 20-30 minutes.-Ken

There is a RESET CHIP Kit you can purchase from MTH,it cost around $40 last time I looked, but what's $40 for a chip you can reuse again and again to reset these old protosound engines???
You can also reset the engine with one of those little back controller boxes MTH has to go with the transformers that come in their starter sets.If I remember right,(which I probably don't) you turn the throttle up and down 18 times(or 25!!) This will also reset an MTH protosound engine.Look up the original manual on the MTH website, and it should tell you exactly how may times you have to turn the throttle up and down.If your engine does not describe it, lookup ANOTHER Protosound 1.0 engine,I know the Original Protosound GG-1 instructions have the reset method printed out,I had to print them out for the GG-1 I have.For sure, the method is described in there.It might work with a ZW-L,it's worth a try a least!!!!
Maybe you could go to the MTH website, and download the soundset for that particular engine!!!They have complete instructions over there for downloading the sound sets.You can even put another soundset from a BIGBOY,and have it playback over your train!!!But lookup your New JerseyCentral Blue Comet ,the soundset should be over there, and if you download it to your engine, it should fix your stop announcement trouble.Eric's trains has a whole tutorial video of how to do it correctly.
Hello, if you know I would be happy; Please show me how you can get an O-Scale LIONEL diesel engine back to life after the shut down by means of a reset... at ATLAS & MTH I know how it works with a conventional transformer by pressing the horn & bell button... You missed a step. After you get the 3 clanks, 3 clinks, you must hold down the bell button until you get a garbled bell. All you did was get it to mode 18, but you didn’t tell it to do a reset.

If that doesn’t work, then you might try getting a make ps chip from MTH to reprogram your existing ps chip with the make ps chip

I have HTM New Jersey Central Blue Comet, the problem I have it’s doesn’t do the stop announcements anymore! I don’t what I can do?
