    PERFICT!
Just what I needed to know for MTH battery replacement.
Did not know a rechargeable Energizer same voltage works too.

Good info John! Thanks to Kevin for helping out with the video. I have a MTH Proto 1 steam locomotive and a Proto 2 diesel in my fleet. Both take a battery. I have both steam and diesel Proto 3's which don't. This is a useful video. Thanks again.

Very informative video. I don't know of you are aware with the early CW-80 transformer they had issues with the sine wave put out and the MTH locomotives did not like. Keep up the good work.

Im looking to replace a battery with a bcr in my protosound sd60. Im experiencing that the loco's sound is kind of scrambled and it won't go into forward or reverse. Lights and everything work though

HI, I have the same transformer as you do in the video and I have replaced the battery with a fully charged 8.4 volt rechargeable battery, but all I get are three clanks. Is there a way to reset the settings to be the default settings ?

Yeah, my father's layout is mostly Lionel, but has two Protosound-1 and one Protosound-2 locomotives. Looking to replace batteries on these before I try running them.

Hah, and what do you konw. I just opened the box, and the locomotive we have is exactly the same model you have, except ours is BNSF and not ATSF. This one is super-easy to pull the bottom off and replace. I put a BCR in ours.

USE a BCR-1 instead of a battery and you will never have a dead battery problem again

I put that energizer 8.4 rechargeable in my proto2 it worked and then it didn’t. Im guessing the board got fired. It might be a coincidence it might not. I replaced the speaker because they do go bad. But that didn’t fix it. I’ll have to dig into and check the board. Other than no sound the engine runs fine.

Kevin, I have an early board with a QSI module and no battery. It only has a weak sounding horn though it has proto sounds. What should I do? Replace the board with an upgrade?

Question: Is there also a battery of some size in MTH HO locos with ProtoSound 1 and 2 boards in them?

I THINK so although not a 9v, it’s a custom sized battery, I ran across them when shopping for the battery for this engine

Thank you for this very helpful video ... just ordered the Energizer 8.4 Rechargeable per your recommendation. Now, will it recharge in the loco like the original would or should I buy a 9v charger? Thanks again!!

This question is answered quite explicitly in the video. Did you watch it all the way through?

I was referring to the Energizer 8.4 not the green MTH. A simple yes or no would suffice. Your response is not appreciated but I thank you for the instructional video.

Apologies if that came off wrong. I thought the answer was quite clearly covered. I'm glad the video helped you with your project!

      @@tsgmultimedia No harm, no foul.
As an aside I am a substitute (Secondary Languages) teacher and repeatedly stress to students "there is no dumb question."
The thought being one should NEVER hesitate to ask a question or seek clarification.
Unfortunately a response that may appear detached, or even sarcastic, negates my claim.
You may have meant no such sarcasm but, as you know, in written form there is no inflection of voice or facial expression.
You would have done well to simply answer my question related to the Energizer battery.
Again, a very helpful video nonetheless and I ordered the green MTH rechargeable per this very video.
      Cheers.

In my simple mind, did I miss the part that an "Energizer RECHARGABLE" will work and recharge through the engine OK. I WATCHED the video through to the end, and still confused. I read the "comment" AND made sure I did watch to the end. I get DON'T leave a "regular " 9V in it.

Does it act like a capacitor or a current keeper ? Why would you need a battery period ?!?!? Seems like a shit design to be honest.

    • @kevin2472
      @kevin2472 3 года назад +4

All of this is true, it acts like a capacitor, it can damage proto 1 boards if an old battery is left installed and it’s a stupid design!

    • @Vezzo55

Simply place a BCR-1 instead of a battery
