We should try to understand that these people are brainwashed and that's not really their fault, they didn't choose the society they were born into. We should give thanks to Allah for every opportunity He gives us to educate people in a positive manner, and continued positive interactions will decondition them insha Allah. So about the hijab, I think it should be okay simply to tell them that our religion decrees for women to wear a headscarf to help protect their modesty and discourage the objectification of women.
