As usual, common sense advice without the usual "click bait" headlines! Some RUclipsrs post headlines that try to make you believe that EVERYONE is quitting eBay, that you can't survive without their "listing service" etc. Thanks so much for the encouragement and for the ZERO BS videos.
Thank you
Please don’t stop making these videos. I haven’t even started reselling but these videos are giving me a lot information especially knowing what I don’t know
I'm enjoying making the videos. So, as long as people are finding them helpful, I plan on keeping going.
Thank you so much for commenting!!!
As a Watchmaker, I tell people on nearly a daily basis about quality. Quality items have a look, feel and heft to them that cheaper versions or knock off items just do not have.
Truly! Watches are a GREAT example. Quality watches look and feel completely different
New resellers here thank you bunches for these great tips.
I truly hope it's helpful
Thanks Scott for your videos, I mainly watch you and The Golden State picker. I am 61 and finally decided with my wife to start selling on ebay a week ago. We've always enjoyed going to yarsales but were nervous about starting ebay even though its a part time hobby now. So far after the first week we are at 400 gross just learning. We are getting stuff cheap enough to make money and move product to learn the process. We were worried about shipping so far that hasn't been to bad like anything else its a learning curve. We worried about a couple possible scams but contacted ebay and they were very helpful explaining what to watch for. Sales like this week motivated me, a Samsung digital camera for a dollar sold for 45.00...but the best one this week was the small box for 8.00 with various junk mixed in were some Star wars lego stuff like figures, after researching one figure it was rare and sold for 120.00 in an hour. The wife ask me why I was wasting 8.00 on a box of junk as we left the yardsale. If all that junk in the box sells I will be about 140.00 gross. The hardest part was starting and I credit you with that last push I needed. Thanks.
What an awesome share! Thank you so much. More than anything I hope the videos help and encourage people
This video was so informative and helpful ! Thank you for the information you share! I've been selling on E-Bay since November 2019 , and as a part time seller and I find your videos to be very Helpful. I learn something new on almost every one you produce. With your Advice and information I'm sure I will be able to be a full time seller in the near future. That's my goal! Thank You!
The whole goal is to create helpful videos. So, your note is very encouraging to me.
Great video Scot! The sorting by nearest first is an amazing tip to help with sourcing!
Thank you so much!
What a good teacher. Thanks so much for helping me. You can teach an old dog new tricks
I hope an old dog can learn new tricks. Otherwise...I'm hopeless. :-)
This was such an awesome video Scot! Thank you. Loved to see how you search local things/sellers. Very cool
Such great feedback!
Thanks for that walk through on your computer. Very helpful. It was fun to see my own listed item show up as 'new listing' as I just listed it earlier today.
Good for you!!! The first one is the hardest. You're already ahead of a ton of people
I definitely agree on being able to spot quality items!
My grandmother's advice is still the best: go to high end stores, high end estate sales, museums and wealthy areas to look carefully. At the stores, (antique or other) pick things up and really look, feel clothes or soft goods. Look at the stitching, look at lining, look at fabric. Go to as many free museums as you can to see fabulous examples of stuff you love and really look. How is it made, what is it made out of, why do you like it? Once you see really good stuff and really good information about that stuff, you can spot things that are really good even if there isn't a tag. (You might not be able to sell it, but you might get to wear high end Italian Loafers for .25cents or buy high end vintage jewelry for $2).
Your grandmother is 100% correct! She could absolutely teach the class.
“That’s mine..”. Loved the video Scott. I have to say it is so rewarding to see your own posting up on EBay and so thrilling to here the cha-Ching! Info is spot on as usual.
I would love for you to do a video on how to handle damaged shipments and things of that sort. Would also love to learn about how to become a preferred seller on eBay. And also do you have any videos on how to branch over to Etsy?
Just a few ideas for upcoming videos. I may run across some of these as I go through all of yours that have been posted. But thank you so much for contributing to the community and helping to grow us all.
Some great ideas! I'll definitely keep track of these and see where they fit in. I truly want to help and encourage people who are trying to make their way
Thank you!! Your methods help me and I appreciate you sharing.
I really appreciate that
Sooo true that goes for clothes everyday different style
100%
Scott, I just recommended a friend of mine to start watching your videos as she currently does not sell her items yet on eBay. You are absolutely correct about the points you mentioned and how important they are to being a successful seller on eBay or any other online selling site for that matter. Sometimes, it just takes patience to sell an item as well.
Thanks so much!
It really does take patience sometimes. I love the fast sale. But, it's no less exciting when something sells that you've had listed for a while.
Yes, I agree, Scott, that it is just as much fun to sell and item that has been online for a while and I have recently sold a couple of items that I had for 2-3 years.
There is profit in every brand...yes even beanie babies and walmart clothes

Hi ChachingKing! I "met" you today on LP Grailed Live. Can't wait to watch your videos!
Thanks so much! I hope you find them helpful
@@TheChaChingKing I'm watching this one now and already find it very helpful 😊
Penelope! =) Howdy from Hillsboro!
Holy smokes! You are right here!
Very helpful video. Thanks. BTW you look good in blue.
Thank you very much!
Nice video and Amen!!
This video is a year old, my first time seeing it and you gave away some of the best secrets, and it makes sense that i can no longer find anything good and everyone seems to be a reseller now.
Thanks for watching. And...apologies for the wall of text below! 🙂 I appreciate the comment and wanted to give my thoughts on why I think it's harder now.
In 2020, there were 20 million sellers on eBay. In 2023 (the latest report), there were 18.3 million sellers. The high was in 2014 with a high of 25 million. And, of all the products sold on eBay, 80% of them are new, not thrifted items. And even though other platforms are gaining some ground, the vast majority of those items are crossposted to eBay. Most of them are factored into the analysis.
What I do think that you are experiencing is that some of the new sellers are actually the thrift stores. With so many people in the workforce being raised in the digital age, there is a wealth of employees capable of listing online. So, the people who used to be their primary customers, you and me, are being bypassed. They are listing the better items themselves. You aren't struggling because of any RUclips videos or creators. It's because the places you source have become your competitors and they are skimming the easiest profits off the top before you can ever see it.
So, it's definitely tougher. In fact, I've almost completely quit sourcing at thrift stores. With so much of it already being picked over by the store, other resellers are now looking more thoroughly just to find things. I've switched almost entirely to private picks now.
@@TheChaChingKing this is an extremely well thought out reply and theory. I agree with you on that. I'm finding private picks harder too because everyone wants too much meat off the bone, so success is only coming with volume now. Volume is adding so much more hassle. Personally as a life long flipper on and offline, I see a need in the market or a need for myself to liquidate bulk to push the cream. Maybe I just need to get better at being laser selective. Love the channel btw!
This is excellent information, Scott! Thank you. Also appreciate your demo on researching via the Seller Hub. I had no idea one could look at things this way!
Glad it was helpful! That is exactly what I am hoping to hear.
The more you know! 😂 Great ideas 💕
Thanks as always!
Awesome video. Very helpful, since my area isn't a high wage area. Lots of lower cost things around here, when I go to thrift stores. They tend to price higher, since there are only 4 known stores. Makes me have to look deeper or travel to another area
Great points. I'm in much the same boat. It is usually worth it for me to travel to Dallas/Ft. Worth even though it's an hour. That said, there is some great vintage farm wear that pops up or here from time to time
Scott, as a recent subscriber, I'm still catching up on your videos. Thx to you, and Piney Woods Picker, and Hustle at Home Mom, I finally got the courage to set up my ebay seller acct. And now I'm finally starting to list the almost $2,000 worth of inventory that I earned by helping friends and family clean out their sheds and garages. In this particular video alone, you've brought to my attention facts that I never knew existed, such as how to find items being offered near me. Btw my small town has a population of less than 1,000. Lol. I have to drive 5 miles to the nearest post office. 😂
Population here is 181! I love it. I'm genuinely fortunate that my post office is a half a mile from my house. It's a small enough post office that they have called me when I'm running late to see if they needed to wait for me. LOL
@@TheChaChingKing Haha! I love it! I actually have a P.O. Box at the one 8 miles away (cos it's the only one with a lobby that's open 24/7), so when my little truck broke down and I couldn't get there, they brought my mail to the post office that's closer. 😁
So helpful!!! This is the one I was looking for!!!
Great ideas -- overwhelming . . . yes -- You are so positive and you've helped me a lot! TY!
Awesome! Thank you!
I appreciate you!
Thank you!
Great information! Thank you.
New subscriber here. Thanks for all the info!
Thank you so much for watching!!!
Amazing idea! Thank you
I hope you pick up some amazing stuff!
Great video, again!
Thanks again!
Cheers to Penelope from the FQ! We love you!!!! Ric and I are having our morning after breakfast ChaChing Tutorial. The majority of the clothing we have is vintage denim. Get ready, dumb question coming atcha - Should we sell those AS IS? Or, wash, fold, tidy up and THEN take fotos?? Many pieces have lain undisturbed for over two decades...They have that 'old in the box' smell but are in great condition. This keeps coming up...to launder or, not??? Beaucoup hugz fr. New Orleans..
I usually launder it unless it's really old. Once I get to the 1960's or older, you could actually be washing away some of the original character that people want to see. I'd definitely not wash any denim that pre-dated the 1950's. Just point out that if the denim has not been laundered and that will be left up to the buyer if they wish to do it. I TRULY appreciate the kind words.
@@TheChaChingKing You got a tiny hat coming, dude....xoxoxox
Always enjoy your show.
Thank you!
Very helpful video series, thanks. Have you covered this topic of "sales tax" in any of your videos? I have watched many videos but do not remember ever seeing the topic covered before.
Most people don't cover taxes because you really need to be qualified to do so. I usually send everyone to @notyourdadscpa for tax help.
For the most part, eBay collects and pays the sales taxes to each state on our behalf.
Very helpful
Thank you!
This is great and timely information for me! I’ve been getting frustrated thinking I have to look everything up because there are sooo many labels. (I’ve been focusing on clothes and shoes.) Love this! I’ll check out Dalton’s site too! Thanks so much!
There are so many ways to approach this. Mel and I know a lot of brands now. But we didn't. We still look for quality first.
Just starting our and I have been a collector of many glass pieces. Plates, vases, decorative, what I consider vintage or antique. What's the best way to ship these products? Bubble wrap? Peanuts? Size of box for each item? More for "fragile" shipping? I don't know what I don't know!!
I double box all of my really fragile stuff. I make sure it's wrapped in something flexible, but secure (like bubble wrap). Then I put that box into another box surrounded by packing peanuts. Overkill all the way for me.
Just starting out and I'm wondering how you keep track of what you spend on an item and what the final sale price (hopefully a profit) was. Don't want to have Uncle Sam angry!
Check out @notyourdadscpa as he is an actual CPA and a reseller. I use a method that doesn't require me to track items individually. I could never keep up with that.
I learned so many great tips in this video!
I do have 1 question:. Why does it matter who is selling items around me? I guess what I am trying to say is.....if I sell all over the U.S., why would I care about what's selling locally?
Great question. It's because they had to get those items somewhere. A lot of the people selling items around you...bought those items around you. If they can find that stuff...YOU can find that stuff
We went to estate sale today and did not spend much time. The closets had clothes in them that were flipable as far as looks but were 5/6$ which I thought was high but what blew my mind was the sign said clothes with store tags on them were the price on the store tag?
LOL...so, if they had retail tags, they wanted retail? Well, good for them. I probably don't have to ask if you bought them all. Lol
Scott, do you need to have an Ebay store in order to access the reports that you showed us in this video. I can't find it. I want to thank you so much for making these videos. I just started selling on ebay about 6 weeks ago. I have made a couple of big mistakes. I'm paying for my education apparently. Anyway your videos have helped me in every step of the process. By the way, I live in Burleson Texas outside of Fort Worth. We are Texas neighbors.
No, you do need to have the Seller Hub. But, for most of the reports, you do not need a store at all. In most of my later videos, I'm using an eBay account that doesn't even have a store.
We aren't too far apart! Burleson is one of my favorite places to hit garage sales.
You're just all over my RUclips today. Lol
Better than COPS! :-)
Great video!
Hello there from Australia. I love your videos awesome. i am going to start by selling books or book bundles of maybe 4 books same genre, etc. Can you give me pointers about what i do so i do not to get banned or what reason causes getting banned
johnstarting
If you list books, just make sure they aren't on the VeRO list for some reason. You can't go just by whether or not others have them listed. Check the VeRO list.
Also, I STRONGLY recommend you check out the channel "Back From Burnout." She knows WAY more about books than I do AND she's in Australia.
Thanks so much for doing these videos! I’m starting up my store. Had a question about selling artwork, would free shipping be a better option to entice people to buy? I found some items cheap which could sell ! Thanks again!
I don't care for free shipping on a personal level. That said, LOTS of people prefer to buy from sellers who offer free shipping. And, I don't think there's any doubt it entices some buyers. You will just need to make sure that you can sell the artwork, and ship it, and still come out with a profit. If you can, offering free shipping may work for you. :-)
Hey Scott - Thanks for your straight-and-to-the-point videos! I've done Ebay off and on for years with random items, but I'd like to add t-shirt and coffee cups of my designs. Can you advise a t-shirt printer as I know you sell yours on your Ebay site? A printer for coffee cups? Also, do you keep pre-printed t-shirts on hand in different sizes, or print and ship on demand? Thanks very much!
I use local printers for most of my merch. For the merch I have on eBay, I use Printify and don't have a preference for which printer they use. I sell very, very little merch anyway. I give most of it away. I do like Sticker Mule and have used them for printing a lot of things.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you!
Can't remember how to get to the Seller Hub and when I look at listings that have sold. What does it mean when a line is thru the price? I imagine they took a lesser price for it. I keep pestering you with questions, hope you don't mind. LOL
I don't mind the questions at all. Here's the seller hub. www.ebay.com/sellerhub
If you see a line through the price, they most likely accepted a lower price through a best offer.
Just learned that when you get a negative feedback you can only list your items UNDER AUCTION til the negative feedback is removed or you get enough positive feedback to satisfy Ebay. I'm so discouraged. Lady said I didn't describe the t-shirt correctly and it had nubs all over it. I checked my listing photos and there are no nubs that I can see.
I know on one of your videos you said there was a way to check the history of people that return items and you can block them. Would you please refresh my member on how to do that and see if this lady is one of those. Thank you.
When you get and offer you can check the feedback they leave on a computer. Click on the number next to their name. Go to SEE ALL FEEDBACK. Then, look under the section LEFT FOR OTHERS.
Don't let them discourage you. This will pass. You can do this
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you for the info and encouragement. I guess I've been watching way too many videos of how much everyone is making in sales and then I got hit with this. So they tell me my selling privileges are limited to 1 items until my overall feedback is greater than 0.... Sad
I'm learning so much from you. When the item has a cross through it I am assuming the seller accepted an offer lower than the list price. Is there a way to see what the sold piece was for that item?
There probably is, but I haven't bothered with it. What you can do is sort the sold listings by highest first. Then, it will slot it just under one just higher and one just lower. That can give you a pretty good idea.
Is there someway to identify Bakelite when actually at Sale or shop. The ways I have seen are not things yup can do on the hunt
Honestly, I'm about like you. I can't tell for sure when it's bakelite. Supposedly, you can run your finger on it and smell it. Or that's what people tell me to make fun of me. I don't have anything full proof. Maybe someone smarter than me will respond.
Hello there buddy from Australia. I am just opening my first eBay store. Can you help I was told if I listed to much at start I could get banned is this true.
No, I have never heard that. Ebay is going to put limits on how much you can list when you first get started. As you successfully complete transactions, they will raise your limits
Love your videos! You have been so helpful with my eBay store. I am looking for a laptop for my business. I am still doing everything from my iPhone 11. I want to stay on budget and with Black Friday coming up. Can you please give me your opinion? Jeannie store name I plant flowers
If all you are using your laptop for is eBay, I'd buy one that's budget friendly. It may need to have bluetooth or wifi capabilities to work with your label printer. But, just about any modern laptop should do everything you need it to do.
I'll give you an affiliate link to one that should work. Keep in mind, if you actually bought it, I'd potentially earn a commission. You could also just search Acer Aspire 3 and find the one under $300.
Something like this
amzn.to/4hy2VMs
I recently made an offer to a buyer for $45. He accepted my offer but it wound up as $42. Not a big deal but how did he get the offer below my asking price (he's a repeat buyer, by the way)?
Wow, I have no idea. Unless he had a coupon you've given him previously. The buyer doesn't have the ability to change an offer before they accept it. There has to be an explanation, though.
Is it true that the summer months are generally slow for selling? Things have really slowed down for me. I have added promote listing to several items, but so far, not helping much
It truly depends on what you're selling. If you sold mostly garden tools, fishing gear, and bug spray... you'd be swamped in business. I sell lots of vintage clothes, and summer is usually a little slower for us.
The best way to find great items is to go to Scot's house!
LOL
It's like knowing the right man or woman lol
Oh boy...I'm not wading into that evaluation. Lol
