Scot, in 9 months of selling, I've now switched from my seller account, to an ebay basic store. AND - I'm so excited to tell you this - I've now reached top seller status! Yes, I'm bragging, lol, cos when ebay notified me of this, I was thrilled! And I must say thank you! Because there were several times, after watching your videos, when I asked questions regarding things I still found confusing. You patiently answered each of my questions, lol, from one teacher to another (I teach people how to write their life story), and I thank you from the bottom of my heart! I'm now able to continue selling on ebay part-time to supplement my retirement, and I'm having a blast while doing so!
This is amazing feedback. I appreciate it so much. You teach people how to write their life story? What an terrific thing to do. I meet people all the time that have convinced themselves that their story isn't interesting. Everyone's story is interesting, IMO. I may write my own down someday.
Question: I have like "20 free listings" left for the month but I also see a "remaining selling limit of 500 items" (which I know that I'll get hit with the 35-cent fee when I go past my limit)...what does that mean?
For those who haven't sold: The seller hub is available after your first sale. I was stumped having 7 listings and couldn't find the seller hub. First sale opened the link! No sweat.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m a total newbie to selling. I’ve watched dozens of tutorials on “selling on eBay” but yours is the only one that demonstrated how to easily get my iPhone photos onto my listing. Avoiding having to connect my phone to my pc, finding the photos, copying them to a folder on the pc, and finally transferring them to my listing, is a real game changer. This will save me so much time. I am now subscribed and liking all of your tutorials.
You are the man! As a retired teacher and a reseller thanks in great part to your help, I love to watch your videos because they are example of how to teach. !
I really appreciate that a great deal. More than anything, RUclips has given me the opportunity to feel like I get to teach a little. I loved being in the classroom.
Mind blown! I had no idea about the draft thing...and now can simplify adding photos to my listings from my cell! THANKS! Great short cut! (and the 1:1 aspect ratio was key, too!).
That's super encouraging to hear. I never know if what I'm saying is just common knowledge. I want to help...so THANK YOU for taking the time to comment.
Scot, I wrote an outline, which I use when teaching my 2-hour workshop (which, by the way, I've taught for free, at libraries, churches, and a private academy.) Sometime this year - or as soon as I find time, between listings, lol - I'm planning to expand the outline, to make it into an actual book. When I do so, I'll send you and Melody (or is it Melanie?) a copy of my book. P.S. Yes, I've often had people tell me, "I don't know why I even came here; my life story is boring." I smile and ask them to trust that I know how to teach them. At the end of the 2 hours, they invariably say "I never realized my life was so interesting!" Lol.
Thank you so much! I did not know you could drag photos to the position you wanted them. I would try to line them up in a folder, then add to listing. If I messed up, I would have to start over. This makes my life easier and listing faster. THANK YOU!
You are a great mentor, so kind and caring. I am going to try that list item now and save as a draft. I think that can help improve my speed on listing items. Your tutorials are so helpful!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and time. Peace
Hi Scott! Thank you for this video and all of your videos! They are some of the most well-explained on RUclips. I am struggling with inventory management in regards to taxes and bookkeeping. I see some sellers put literally every single object they buy into a spreadsheet, with where they got it, how much they paid, how much it sold for, shipping cost, etc, and that just seems like it would take SO MUCH TIME to keep organized, especially if many items are similar or am selling 15+ a day, or when buying items in large lots. It's also very difficult for me to do that kind of stuff with ADHD, which is why I got into reselling to begin with, to not spend all day in front of a screen. I see some sellers do a "no line-by'-line" approach, where they basically would go like "I spent $200 at this yard sale on 200 items" but not describe every single item in a spreadsheet, although I don't know if there are disadvantages to that approach come tax time. I would love to see a video by you some day on how you handle this kind of thing. Thank you again for all you do! :)
Man, I applaud the people that can manage an item by item inventory spreadsheet. THAT IS NOT ME! Keep in mind, I'm not a tax professional, so you need to talk to one before listening to someone like me. All I use is a cost-basis accounting. In other words, I keep track of what I spend on inventory....just totals. I do have a bank account dedicated to my business for this. So, if I buy inventory, boxes, tape...business stuff...it comes out of that account. It's the same account I use for my eBay and other business deposits, too. I keep track of some of my bigger purchases. But, I don't do any item by item accounting at all. I won't do a specific video for this simply because I don't want to give anyone the impression that I know enough about taxes to actually listen to. I will tell you that @notyourdadscpa is excellent. He knows the reselling world and is also a certified CPA. I truly believe every reseller who's doing this as a business needs to follow him here on RUclips.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you so much! :) I will check his channel out, and I appreciate you explaining your general process so I can know that there are successful resellers who don't do line-by-line.
Thank you so much Scot, can you please explain more about the store subscription vs without and when you move onto store subscription? Thanks so much again
I actually have a video that can help you make that decision. I'm not at home to link it for you, though. I think the title is something like "Do you need a store"
Scot hi from NY. Nice to see someone on utube who isnt a teenager:) I am old enough to be your mother. Anyway been on ebay a while, hobby, pastime. Maybe pick a more common non vintage item to illustrate basic listing?? Best..
Thanks! I choose something different each time I redo this video. I've done everything from a basic tshirt to lamps. 😆 I have to remake this video every time the platform changes.
I am sure it's only going to improve. And I'm sure it has it's applications. But, personally, I hate it. Especially as a consumer. If I hear a video start up on RUclips that is clearly AI generated, I leave.
I really appreciate you and your wife's videos. I'm still trying to get started with ebay. Can you recommend brands and sizes of boxes for shipping coffee mugs? It is overwhelming trying to find the best boxes.
The following is an affiliate link. So, if you use it, I may earn a commission. It won't cost you more, but I want you to be aware. The box I use for mugs most is a 6x4x3. It won't fit large mugs, though. I only sell more expensive mugs, so I use this and then put that in a slightly larger box. amzn.to/3yvLGtn
It depends on where I'm taking photos. I have a light box that I love for small items. I have a setup with an overhead light and great natural light for things that are a little bigger (boots, large purses, pennants, etc). For items that I hang, I have a large ring light.
Thank you for your articulate, well thought out videos. They are really helping me as I get my start on eBay. Would you consider doing a video on bookkeeping for tax purposes? Do you use a software program to keep track of your expenses? Trying not to reinvent the wheel on what eBay provides on my account versus what I need to keep track of such as how much I paid for the item. Does the IRS allow taxes paid on the item purchased from thrift to be subtracted from the net amount earned? Thank you again for your videos and being a genuinely nice person. I appreciate your time.
I send all the tax stuff to @notyourdadscpa He's a certified CPA and a reseller. You have to have some qualifications to give tax advice. I've never made those videos because I'm truly not qualified
@@TheChaChingKing I'm really looking for a video on how to keep the books to be ready for tax time. How do you keep track of items sold versus what you paid for it. Mileage. Etc. Is Quick Books through eBay helpful?
My shipping section looks nothing like yours. I only have priority mail boxes so I selected priority mail but I do not have that drop down shipping policy section and every time I put in the dimensions of the Priority Mail shoebox (I'm selling a non-shoe item) it reverts the weight and dimensions to some strange preset. I don't see a ground advantage up to 2 pounds it just says ground advantage. Any suggestions? Do I need to adjust my settings or something?
You probably need to create the shipping policies. Here's a video I made showing how to create a shipping policy. See if it helps. :-) ruclips.net/video/EODgaSNx0Ew/видео.html
@@TheChaChingKing Also another quick question should I have an individual account or a business account? I don't want to create an llc or corporation but I don't exactly plan on buying anything on ebay I'm here to mainly make a profit on both my personal items, and items I have purchased with the intent to resale... any help would be greatly appreciated, I have been putting off listing anything because I was afraid of the shipping part, then you made this video and I bit the bullet and listed my first item about 24 minutes ago (lol). I just want to make certain I am setting this up the right way.
@@NatorDM It really doesn't make any difference when you are just getting started whether you have an individual account or a business account. And you can always convert your individual account into a business account whenever you want to. You've got this!
Scott, great video! Thanks for this quick tutorial along with the others! After watching a couple videos to get your perspective I am ready to try on ebay. Before starting again since I was a victim of them cancelling my account, because of fraud suspicions.I had a few questions.... I sell on Amazon and thought I would be consistent on the new platform but am lost as to how to get started. You mentioned posting as a store versus not. Which do you recommend and why? To select shipping for an item, how do you really go about it? On this video you mentioned the ground shipping option and in anothr video mentioned being mindful of flat shipping options? Is it an automatic deduction from the buyers payment? Can you please expand on this topic or provide a link to one of your videos if you have a more in depth one on shipping.
You really don't need a store until you are listing consistently. As far as shipping, I start with the weight and size of the item packed up. I use Ground Advantage most of the time. Eventually, the shipping payment will come from what the buyer paid. But until you are established, eBay may make you pay it up front. If you look through my videos, I have several shipping videos. Far too many to sum up in a few sentences
Question: I have over 100 books my brother left behind when he moved 6 years ago. They were all purchased/used for his two majors in college. Any idea what time of year most people buy books for upcoming semester at college? Do you think it will be towards the end of summer before most schools in the eastcoast start? So I can really push to try to sell them? Thanks!
With so many classes being online and virtual, I just list them books when I have them. The last thing you want to do is wait and then a new edition comes out. That can kill the value of your book.
In this video, I tried show it exactly if this doesn't explain it well enough. Click on the number beside their eBay name. That takes you to their feedback page. Click on SHOW ALL FEEDBACK. Then, on the right hand side you should see, FEEDBACK LEFT FOR OTHERS.
I don't block any countries. Since my stuff is going through eBay's International Shipping program, and eBay takes on all the issues and returns, there's really no benefit for me to try to pre-emptively block any countries.
19:00 I’m not getting any screens that look like your screens. Do I need to open a Seller Hub so that my screens look like your screens which show as they do as your Seller Hub screens?
As a new person, my shipping label doesn’t always come from payment of the buyer. eBay lets me know if I pay shipping + I don’t think I can change that yet.
Hi, I WILL watch this video tomorrow...but just wondering if you have a recent video on how to list items with a drop down menu? I have been trying to do this to list a bunch of DVD's but can't seem to figure it out and I think the process has changed since the last time you posted a video on it. I know DVD's allow a drop-down menu option to list multiple titles b/c I've seen others do it, but I've tried everything and can't find clear instructions. Thanks so much!
Lovin your Video.... Quick Question: I noticed when you went to "Condition Notes", you only typed in "SHOW" & it appeared to me that the rest of the condition notes populated automatically......are you using Macros or.........? thanks, J.J.
Their old stock but they’re new so I can’t open them and they’re two calendars together so I’m wondering if I put cardboard around them and bubble wrap them if I could put them in a poly bag what is your advice please and thank you
Hey there. Enjoyed this tutorial. I have a question or 2 for you about international shipping. I have some countries that I have set up to not ship to. That was set up before EBay started the GPS program. Do you have any countries, etc. that you do not ship to? It sounds like now, since EBay takes care of everything for you after the initial shipment to their hub, that it would not be a problem with opening up to shipping to any and every area. What say you? Thanks so much.
@@TheChaChingKing okie dokie. I know in years past, there were some issues with certain countries. I guess I’ll take my restrictions off since eBay takes care of everything for us now. Thank you.
Hi scott, I really really need you to answer this question , I'm from Morocco and I want to sell on ebay to the US market but I'm not in the US, how i can manage my stock there and fulfilled the orders is there any service or anything you know about this to help me , and thank you 🙏
The only way I know of that you might be able to do this is with drop shipping. For example, if you sold custom designed products through a company like Printify, they would ship the products when they sell. So, you would need a US bank account to use for deposits, some ideas and designs that would sell on the Printify products and they would take care of the shipping. If you go that route, I'd also sell on Etsy. As far as someone who manages stock that you send them, it's not something I have any experience with.
@@Goodlife993 I understand that can be an issue. I have an established account so I didn't have any issue with dropshipping. If you're using Printify, they have some help with the suspensions I believe. Otherwise, you might check out Etsy. It's easier to dropship branded merch there with out suspensions.
Question, I sold some items on eBay every now and again. Now I have over a hundred items I want to sell. Would you suggest I open a new sellers account to sell these items or should I open a new account in the sellers hub tab?
I would 100% recommend using the account you already have. 100%. The feedback and history you have will run off the vast majority of scammers. Stick with the one you have. :-)
4:09 store subscription or not. I do not have a store subscription. How is a “store subscription” different than a “Seller Hub” as shown at this timestamp?
The "Seller Hub" looks the same whether you have a store subscription or not. Have you opted in to the Seller Hub? It's free. I'll give you the link to a video showing you how. ruclips.net/video/a0H1Q-hN5F8/видео.html
Is selling on eBay as profitable in Sweden as it is in the states? Some things in Sweden are selling for nothing here but a lot of money on eBay. Should I give it ago? I am worried about the shipping price being to high
I think the key would be sorting out the shipping. I think things will be skewed for the US because shipping is cheaper when we are only shipping domestically. Still, some items may well be worth selling from there. You should search for other sellers in your area and see what they are doing.
Well, not really. I sold it and shipped it. I just wanted to be able to show the process. It's not like I'll be posting the $1 sale on Instagram to brag about it. LOL What I really have to hope for is that it doesn't get returned. :-)
Hi Scott, I am really frustrated, I have listed 16 items, number 17 eBay keep sending me that I am missing some discriptive items, when I have completed everything. So basically, is done but they won't list it. I put in more details, than any other item. Do they have a customer service number? I couldn't find it?😂😮
No costumer service number any more. I contact eBay on Facebook. If theres no required item specifications missing, you might try just creating an entirely new listing. Don't copy and sell similar
Hello ChaChingKing, I want to start selling on eBay, but I am worried for something. Do I need LLC (or) business license before selling on eBay? Second thing is if I sell vero things that I don’t know, can I get sued from owners? If you see my comment, please reply me. Thanks.
I am not qualified to give tax advice. But, eBay doesn't require you to have an LLC in order to sell and you can still claim it as income for the IRS. As to the VeRO question, you could get sued for almost anything in any aspect of your life, including selling something on eBay. But, if you list something that gets a VeRO complaint, the item is usually just taken down. I would strongly recommend that, if a company contacts you directly telling you to take something down, take it off eBay. I'm absolutely not convinced they usually have the legal right to do so. But I am 100% convinced that I don't have the money to fight them...and they know it.
It could mean that you could list up to 500 more, but not all of them would be free. Only the first 20 would be free. The rest would be how many you could list in total.
15:32 I didn’t choose “accept offers”, and a buyer (in the Netherlands) purchased the $264 item. The buyer info shows (0) on their profile. Because of these reasons, I’m worried about the honesty of the buyer. What should I do? FYI….the shipping is Ground Advantage to an eBay location in the U.S.
Is it going to a place outside of Chicago? If so, that sold through eBay’s International Shipping Program. That's the best! No returns. Ebay eats all of them. That's actually the best way to sell something right now.
@@TheChaChingKing Hey Scot, love all your videos and learn something all the time. Question: I just got back into selling on Ebay in February and opted out of EIS. Since watching your videos and your advice on EIS, I think I need to start selling international. However, I don't see where I can opt in anymore. I didn't know since I originally opted out, if Ebay won't let me opt in anymore? Any help you can provide, I'd appreciate it! Thanks for everything!
@@CraftwithBarbaraDrake If you are eligible, you should still be able to opt in. To opt back in: Log in and go to “Account Settings,” choose “Shipping Preferences,” and select “Enroll” next to “eBay International Shipping.”
@@TheChaChingKing I'll have to call Ebay tomorrow because according to their policy, I am eligible. When I follow your instructions and Ebay's, that "Enroll" doesn't show up. Since I am already enrolled in the Seller Hub & Business Policies, I had several shipping preferences already set up excluding all countries. So I went and changed all of them and chose only the few countries I wanted to exclude. However, when I go and check my listings, all it shows is United States and the countries I excluded. I'm thinking maybe it takes awhile for Ebay to authorize? Hopefully, I can get an answer tomorrow from them. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out. Have a great week!
My son is selling it. The console itself looks absolutely brilliant. It's probably the nicest one I've seen cosmetically. The box is a bit weathered. While most of the original paperwork is in the box, there's no demo disc and he doesn't have a PS1 disc to try in it. But it powers up and communicates with the screen just fine. I'd be surprised if the disc drive wasn't working. He only recently listed it. I'm sure someone will send him a decent offer pretty quick.
I have to tell you as An American, I don't agree with that; "if someone leaves negative feedback i don't have to sell to them"- thats discrimination. That's not the American way AT ALL. I'm going to point something out that you taught me about listing. You said "take your time and do it right, because it's your business." Have you seen the listings on movies lately? I have been doing my homework and most re-sellers "oh I don't want to list." Don't you think people might have a legitimate reason for complaining? So its ok to ban a customer for expressing something now? We don't resolve problems anymore, we call them "trolls." It's not a joke to me, people have feelings
You've read far too much into what I said. What I said is that I block people who "...use feedback like a weapon." The VAST majority of buyers don't. They try to leave helpful feedback. If their feedback makes it obvious that they are going to be a problem, I have the right to block them. I also said to read what the negative was left for. If it is something that you know you haven't and wouldn't do, it's not an issue at all. If using feedback to determine whether or not I want to do business with someone isn't the American way, then a buyer shouldn't get to consider a seller's feedback when purchasing, right? I understand what you're saying. But I really did mean what I said, and I stand by it. If they use their feedback like a weapon, I don't want to do business with them.

It depends on where I'm taking photos. I have a light box that I love for small items. I have a setup with an overhead light and great natural light for things that are a little bigger (boots, large purses, pennants, etc). For items that I hang, I have a large ring light.
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks for the info!
Your so awesome 👏 thank you for another great Vid 🩷
I truly appreciate that, thank you.
I send all the tax stuff to @notyourdadscpa
He's a certified CPA and a reseller. You have to have some qualifications to give tax advice. I've never made those videos because I'm truly not qualified
@@TheChaChingKingthank you for replying to my comments. It took me a minute to figure out how to find comments. Learning curve. 😊
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks a lot!
That was very helpful! But I have a question.Where will you put this package to eBay to ship it and how they will take it and ship it?
I drop mine off at the post office. You can also have your carrier just pick them up if you have service at your door.
11:43 Seeing what the buyer feedback they gave to other sellers. How do you see the feedback the buyer gave other sellers?
In this video, I tried show it exactly if this doesn't explain it well enough.
Click on the number beside their eBay name.
That takes you to their feedback page. Click on SHOW ALL FEEDBACK.
Then, on the right hand side you should see, FEEDBACK LEFT FOR OTHERS.
Do you ship to all countries? I have made exclusions but I am not sure I should. Please advise
Yes, you need to opt into the Seller Hub. It's where I start every tutorial.
Hello,
Do we "viewers" have to post a question here, on line, or can we message questions to you. If so, which link do we use?
Ty.
Hagd!
I try to answer every question I get. Usually, people ask right here. A few message me on Instagram. I don't have a separate way to send questions.
As a new person, my shipping label doesn’t always come from payment of the buyer. eBay lets me know if I pay shipping + I don’t think I can change that yet.
I'm sure you are correct. I wish that I had included that possibility in the video.
This is the most recent one that I have. ruclips.net/video/wpol4ogyNxk/видео.html
Great video. Do you offer free shipping or do you charge the buyer?
I charge the buyer for 99% of my items. That may not be the best way to do it, but it fits me better.
Lovin your Video.... Quick Question: I noticed when you went to "Condition Notes", you only typed in "SHOW" & it appeared to me that the rest of the condition notes populated automatically......are you using Macros or.........? thanks, J.J.
No, that was me editing the video so no one has to watch someone who doesn't type any better than a drunken monkey.
Did you have to exit the program on the computer to access Ebay on the phone??
No. You need to get out of the listing, but you don't have to log out on either one to go back and forth between them.
Look who is at 60k subscribers 👏
Thanks! Mind blowing that anyone watches
How would you package up a calendar to be shipped
Usually, I roll it and ship it in a box. I keep a few 12X6X6 boxes that work well for stuff like that.
Their old stock but they’re new so I can’t open them and they’re two calendars together so I’m wondering if I put cardboard around them and bubble wrap them if I could put them in a poly bag what is your advice please and thank you
Thank you I figured it out , just wanted you to know by the way you’re awesome. I love watching all your RUclips videos. Thank you so much.
I don't exclude anyone. There's really no benefit for me to do that
@@TheChaChingKing okie dokie.
@@TheChaChingKing I'm dropshipping now but Ebay always suspend my account, and thank you so much for your reply ❤🙏
@@Goodlife993 I understand that can be an issue. I have an established account so I didn't have any issue with dropshipping. If you're using Printify, they have some help with the suspensions I believe. Otherwise, you might check out Etsy. It's easier to dropship branded merch there with out suspensions.
Do I have to use a laptop or can I do the whole selling on my phone using the app?
You can do all of it through your phone. There are a few things that you can't do on your phone, but nothing that would stop you from doing business.
Also i reslly like your content and channel. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you
I appreciate that!
How do you get discounted EBay supplies?
With some of the store subscriptions, they give you a coupon every quarter to use.
Good info. Having your friend purchase the item is an extra EXTRA fake sale 😅😀🤣
Hello ChaChingKing,
I want to start selling on eBay, but I am worried for something.
@@TheChaChingKing thx for explaining this to me. I am really appreciative of you. 😊😊😊
Question: let's say I have "20 free listings" left but I see something that says I have like "500 listings remaining". What does that mean?
It could mean that you could list up to 500 more, but not all of them would be free. Only the first 20 would be free. The rest would be how many you could list in total.
@@TheChaChingKing that makes sense! Thank you!
To opt back in:
Log in and go to “Account Settings,” choose “Shipping Preferences,” and select “Enroll” next to “eBay International Shipping.”
@@CraftwithBarbaraDrake Hopefully they can help you get it sorted. 🙂
Are you selling and original Playstation ????
My son is selling it. The console itself looks absolutely brilliant. It's probably the nicest one I've seen cosmetically. The box is a bit weathered. While most of the original paperwork is in the box, there's no demo disc and he doesn't have a PS1 disc to try in it. But it powers up and communicates with the screen just fine. I'd be surprised if the disc drive wasn't working. He only recently listed it. I'm sure someone will send him a decent offer pretty quick.
I send my phone pix to my iPad pix, then edit them. I think I need better lighting but thx for the shortcut :)
Better lighting really makes it much easier.
I really need to make that happen YESTERDAY 😊. Thank u ChaChingKing!
@@valeriesantos8178 You might try reaching out to eBay for Business on Facebook. I wonder if they could streamline that for you.
I was gonna list this ps4 game.. i tried to tske a pic and my shadow is over it. Lol i feel silly but this is flustering me
I completely understand. When you can, get a couple of lights that you can use to brighten up your photos. That will help a lot.
