- Why Cat Glover Left Prince and the Lovesexy Band. There have been a dozen or more rumors about why Cat, Prince's amazing dancer in the mid-80s, left his camp. I've done some research, and here are our findings.

UGHHHHH cat's body was to die for!!! Her dance moves always seemed so authentic and she was always so passionate!!! I love this it just shows how life can lead you to awesome places and awesome people. I love how this story shows how just because you are not around a person or even speak to that person EVERY day or even EVERY month year doesn't mean you have forgotten them or that you do not love them!!! I have Always strived to be the kind of friend who is there when needed!!! Maybe not always around when you want me but definitely there when you need me. You pretty much nailed it. She said in an interview that she always wanted to do an album and Prince even encouraged her to pursue it. She said he even had songs for her, but she wanted to see what she could do on her own first. She said over and over again that "she was not fired!"
She should have let him write for her, as well. Costly decision to do it all on her own 🎼💯🤔
Cat was on Star Search with her partner and she would do the Cat Scat dance. I saw the Lovesexy Tour and it was an amazing show Cat was a Beast on stage non-stop dancing.
There is the rumor that some years after the break, Kat ran into Prince and Mayte at some event and she (Kat) huffed, "The two of you will NEVER have what we had." And that was it. Mic drop.

Everything you spoke on is 100% true💯❣️ I’m Cats💜 Long time friend, we met at a popular hip-hop club called, the whiskey a gogo months before she officially started working with Prince. Before meeting Cat, I was actually cast as a featured extra along with a few of my friends in the Raspberry beret video! Prince was cool quirky funny and down to earth to work with!👍🏽 I so wish there were video cameras to shoot behind the scenes of the Raspberry beret video so you guys will have a love the awesome stories me and my friends shared with Prince.💜 on another awesome note Cat treated me and my friends to the Love Sexxy concert with backstage passes! Also ironically I booked my first time six month gig in Tokyo Japan towards the end of the Love Sexxy tour! Of course, Cat invited me and my new friends and my Tokyo band to see her with Prince tonight at Tokyo Dome! Awesome memories I cherish!💜Love you Cat😘

I got to hang out and dance with her at a small party in Chicago in around '96. She was so cool and nice!
Choosing between Prince and Bowie would be a terrible (and wonderful) thing to have to do. But, all things considered I have to say that 1. As a dancer, she almost certainly got a better showcase than she would have with Bowie, since that wasn't as important in his shows as it was for Prince and 2. For the era in question, Prince was putting out the stronger work at the time. Sign O the Times & Lovesexy were infinitely stronger than the Labyrinth Soundtrack and Never Let Me Down.
I would have chosen Prince too, even though I love Bowie. The music is just much more danceable, imo
I agree, the late 80s was not Bowie's time and Never let me down and Tin Machine are just awful. Also many of the Black women in his tours were mostly women he had it off with like Ava Cherry. I am sure had she joined and fallen in love with him - Iman would have put the kibosh on it. I love Bowie too, but he is not exactly a very rhythmic or funky soul artist.
Adorecream 1976 Totally agree. With Bowie, Cat would’ve been more background or prop. Bowie didn’t dance but he did have incredible style and presence. But with Prince there was interaction both physically and emotionally. Cat seemed to be an intricate part of a musical story line in Sign O’ the Times and that special magic continued with the LoveSexy Tour. That magic would’ve never been captured with Bowie. We actually believed there was a sexual “cat and mouse” relationship between Cat and Prince on stage. Very unique. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it and doubt that I ever will again.

He was strategic with his album lay out, he also composed the energy around it all including the image and personas of the people on and off stage, that was part of his genius, with Prince everything and everyone had its season

Cat Glover was and still is a real one! I didn’t know about her until 2016 but I love her fire and energy as a dancer. Very freestyle. Her and Prince were magic on stage. I thought they could’ve been together but it was all professional. She was the centerpiece, the muse during that time 1987-88. She like Prince had a dirty mind as well (her words) and they got each others talent and played up their onstage personas. I heard in an interview where Cat said she left Prince on her own and she was never fired. Also, she dispelled any negative rumors about her and Prince and she was quick to put you in your place if you talked any mess about her! She wanted to pave her own path and there’s nothing wrong with that. She lives a rather quiet life now and has two daughters who look just like her. But I was following her on instagram and she is still very humble and still has that energy and sass and I saw a video recently where she rapped her entire part from Alphabet Street and totally killed it! Cat was a sensational part of the Prince legacy and he was definitely lucky to have her in his universe. The albums and performances were always fierce, high energy and so funky and midblowing to watch. When Cat danced, aw shockwaves!! The Sign O’ the Times and LoveSexy eras were one of my all time favorite Prince eras because of the entertaining and vibrant LoveSexy band. Man such an awesome time!

Great vid. My first Prince concert was Lovesexy 88 at Wembley arena. Prince waved at me! I still have the tour programme and t-shirt (albeit a little tight.) My girlfriend at the time used to dress like cat. Oh happy days :)

Nice video! I absolutely love Cat!! Saw the Love Sexy Tour 3X’s!!! I’ve never seen better chemistry on the stage than with Prince and Cat. IMO, and I’ve heard others say so as well....she was the only dancer who could actually keep up with him...I always thought they had something going on😍....it certainly appeared that way on stage. LOL! Glad to know Cat is well. Had no idea she’d been ill and hospitalized. Glad to know that she and Prince were still friends....She will always be my favorite Prince dancer!

Cat was better. I only thought Mayte was good during the Act I and II tour Egyptian princess era. The later years stripper style moves didn't work and were cringeworthy imo. Cat could do sexy and not have it look forced or awkward.
Cat was amazing in her era... during the experience Prince was projecting...As was Mayte in her time period... I also know Cat was upset about energy between Prince and Mayte...Maybe it was just a “Prince girl thing” but she Cat was definitely shady instead of being gracious as one artist to another.

Cat made the only choice she could make. Her time with Prince would be limited regardless, as we now know he needed to shake things up for his band & shows and reinvigorate his creativity. Even though it didn’t work out the way I’m sure she hoped at the time, she still made the only correct choice. Great video as always.

Cat is definitely my favorite protege not only for her raw talent but also because of her loyalty. Not to mention her time with Prince at times seems to be steeped in secrecy especially since theres not many photos of her time in the band. Its fascinating if I must say so myself.
Thank you Prince’s Friend for the clarification of why Cat left the band. The story that I read was Prince ask her to fire someone in the band and she did not want to do it, so she decided to leave the band. I am so glad that everything is going well in her life. I love her in the Sign O The Time movie. I love their stage present of them dancing together. Another great video. 😊😊👍🏽👍🏽

Shakira. I read that story too, but I think the book pointed to more than that but I can't remember what. It appears she had other things in mind, but it seems there was definitely something going on that made her want to leave.

Bomb the bass was the U.K. dj producer who mixed and worked on “ cat woman “ . Another story is Prince told Cat to fire Karen Krattinger , Cat refused and she quit the band . She also told me that Sheila was really unpleasant to her on both the Sott and lovesexy tours .

Because he wanted to love more than one person..vanity needed just one...according to people magazine.

Prince was such a force of incredible, pulsating, purple, pop energy, he could play lots of instruments, sing, dance, act. be theatrical, etc. and Cat brought the same amount of energy, theatrics, talent but through her dance, acting, etc. The were an amazing combination.
She made him more playful, fun, and unpredictable live.

A lot of people don’t know that Cat had a child prior to meeting and working with Prince. She left the child in Chicago with her parents to tour with the Lovesexy band. I was surprised to hear this in an interview she gave awhile back. After hearing that I always assumed that’s why she didn’t wait around for him to finish the Batman soundtrack, not positive, however. But that she had incentive to move on.
I liked her okay but always felt she was uber intense and it often left me feeling like she maybe wanted to drag Prince backstage and beat him up LOL rather intimidating in the delivery IMO just sayin’ but his music was maybe more suited at that time. 🤷♀️ shrug.

I thought their chemistry was amazing. Explosive. It appeared to me she 'pushed' Prince on stage further than I have ever seen any of his dancers prior or after. And their performance as a whole was all the better for it. She's probably one of the significant draws as to why I keep returning to the 'Sign 'O' the Times' concert movie over and over. She was dismissed way too soon.

In my opinion the stage performance and chemistry was way better btw Cat and Sheila than Cat and Prince. Cat had no formal dance declipine and was just okay IMO I do like her but no way was she the best. I bet she was better at break dancing that’s what her style reminded me of. I’ve read Prince suffered several injuries on stage during that time period so it was probably a more erratic/crazy time, and maybe suited to the music.

I owned that shirt. I bought it at the show at the LA Sports Arena in 88. I was 18 and now I’m 50😐...I have to say that Cat was so integral to the Sign O the Times and Lovesexy era. There was something so special bout her and watching her and Prince dance was mesmerizing. I loved her rap in Alphabet Street. Back in the day there wasn’t internet and in 89 i was going to the record stores looking OBSESSIVELY for her album. There was a blurb in the music rags but then it never materialized. This 19 yo Prince/Cat fanatic was so heartbroken to not get that album BUT to hear she’s still around makes me so happy. There were so many stupid rumors. I saw you video about the documentary questions and my perspective was all off. I hope they figure out how to be respectful and PAY THESE ICONS so we get a true and heartfelt picture. Anyhow... Thanks for the great info! I’m in a SOTTT rabbit hole right now with the deluxe out. As a 37 year fan of his music im digging all these stories. 💟☮️✝️

Yes Prince never forgot a good friend and he does not receive anywhere near the credit he deserves. And yes Cat is by far the most talented dancer he ever worked with and their on stage chemistry was smoldering hot!! And I want to thank her and you PF for keeping Prince's legacy alive. I have not heard anything about a paternity suit, but I have always heard the story that she was pregnant by Prince. Who knows. I have seen pictures of her son, there is a bit of a resemblance. But that is their business, if it were true I don't think she would need to file a paternity suit against Prince. I think Prince would have been man enough and honorable enough to take care of things without a paternity suit. Maybe she didn't want everything publicized because of all the attention it would receive. Maybe she just wanted a quiet life and to raise her son. I wish her the best. Thanks for the video.

Hey Prince's Friend. Not sure if you heard the new episode of Prince Podcast w/ Cat that just came out but she gave another reason she left. Basically while she was on retainer with Prince, Prince fired Steve Fargnoli and told her that she would have to fire him as her manager too if she wanted to continue working with him. A week later he called her and asked if she had done it, and when she said no he said then we have a problem & can't work together & she replied "ok we can't work together anymore then" and hung up the phone. That simple. Then she went to Europe & started recording her album, which Prince did reach out to her a year later to work on her album. It was a good interview.

Great video. I remember when the CD single was released...it was released on a very tiny mini DISC. I Purchased it anyways not knowing if it would fit into my player but sure enough, it did. i actually like the music on the CD. It was more house based material but i liked it. I do not own it anymore but i wouldn't mind having it as a collectors item and I've always wanted Cat to do well.
Hey man I been looking for content about Prince's Guitar Playing for some time and how it compares and contrasts with the genius of Jimi Hendrix. This ain't about a black dude with a guitar it's about the mind and the souls of two mystical spiritual embodiments. Anyways I want to say that with each posting and each video, you become better and better in fluency man. Keep up the good work. I am just a plain old graphic designer and illustrator of children's lit, but I soon will begin work on a painting of the two Guitar Gods. I will let you be the first human to take a peek. Like all people who left Prince they got tired of being controlled. Prince wanted Cat to fire somebody and she wouldn't do it so she quit. I don't blame her
Yes, but she said in another interview that he was right all along. That person was Steve Fargnoli and she said that Prince was trying to warn her about him. She found out later that Prince was right about him.

The song she released was actually called ‘Catwoman’, NOT ‘Bomb the Bass’, which was the name of the group fronted by co-writer/producer Tim Simenon. Apparently she was in a relationship with him at the time.

Prince rapidly evolved and disbanded acts. He replaced singers, dancers and band members without a choice to remain. Parallel with his love interests. I read somewhere that he would advance his proteges/ muses careers than when the musical project or endeavor was in the final stage the affair, romantic relationship or fling was over as well. After his death, I gained so much favorable and not so much insight into our still beloved, Prince's life.

Just listen to cats' interview on the Prince Podcast channel. Toward the end she explains why she left. Apparently there was a conflict of interest because of her manager & Prince. Something like that. Just listen to the interview and hear it from her directly if you wish...

You mean the same band that did Lovesexy? 😂 I’m pretty sure I’ve said in other videos, but this configuration of performers is affectionately known by many in my circles as the Lovesexy band. Yes they technically did the SotT tour, Lovesexy and the black album, but that’s a mouthful for a band that never had an official name. Cheers!
I think that's why their relationship was so great together. Cause they wanted to be friend's only and that's how it should be. Cause like my mom said you can't have all the good candy in the store, you gotta leave some for somebody else. But I think Lovesexy would've been a great name for a band. I don't know how that would've fell in line with the Lovesexy album after Sign of the Times album. I think that's why he didn't name that band Lovesexy. Cause he had an album coming out with the same name I might be wrong about this.
The band itself didn’t have a name. The albums are just billed under Prince. The “Lovesexy Band” is just the nomenclature used to refer to the band.

They had to keep up the mystery effect! I mean you know Prince..... aaaallways mysterious....... aaaaalways..... private. Its part of his persona.. Part of what made him so badass and sexy! And sometimes he was just flat-out shy and you know a lot of us women I think that's really cute in a guy!
No! He was not! Cat and a lot of others will say, straight up, that they were just friends and he was most respectful of them! It even surprised them how respectful and what a gentleman he was! He uplifted a lot of women in the music business and every body assumes that he was doing them because of his sexual on stage prowess and music. People ASSUME. He lifted up more women in the music business than anyone and he respected them. It's one of the reasons he tried to stay so private! He hated, absolutely hated, that part of Fame! He really battled with it mentally and emotionally.... all the assumptions, heresay, rumors... he couldn't stand it!
Prince and Cat did a stuff on stage which no other artist has reached far. Even their names fitted them perfectly. A prince dancing with a cat on stage.... planets perfectly alined is something that only happens one time. There are so many things about Prince that make me thing....

Something is off about this.... because as far as I know Cat was supposed to be in Graffiti Bridge... and Prince was upset she left... He changed things up a bit, but put Robin in her place... I believe that the story line, just how Vanity was supposed to be in Purple Rain ☔️ and instead he had to hire Apollonia, Patricia.... In Vanity’s spot. Prince and Apollonian were never involved, but she tries to act like they were... He gave her that name for the size of her chest... Prince usually preferred tighter smaller sized figures woman and he only hired her to play a part... I love how people try to fight with me about this, but it’s true. She was dating David Lee Roth at the time of the movie. And yes people her real name is Patricia.

That's a shame she should have put her album out herself and go independent but also copyright her music so that no one can steal it those producers cannot be trusted or any record label out there all they want to do is use the artist and make money off of them and take what they earned for their advantage I'm glad prince did something in order to leave warner Bros he did say to own your masters or your masters own you it's unfair how artists gets treated in the music industry smh
