    UPDATE:
    Just ordered mine(4/1/22), can't wait to get it.
    1k isnt that bad considering it comes with 2 12.0 batteries which retail for over $500 by themselves plus a dual rapid charger which retails for $120 and I wanted them anyway to use with the rest of my Milwaukee powertools.
    Received it 4/6/22 and mowed 2 days later, and WOW what an absolute beast. It just powers though everything you throw at it.
    Being a new home owner I used my neighbors EGO 2 months ago) which is the last time I mowed waiting for this thing to come in). I didn't wanna be THAT guy that borrows things lol so I patiently waited and with the rain we've been getting in Tampa FL my grass definitely grew a lot.
    His EGO shut off on me 4 times when I used it and the grass was nowhere near the height it was when I mowed with the Milwaukee which didnt struggle in the least, it just automatically kicks on that high lift mode and eats.
    I finished with 2 bars left on the batteries so instead of using my wide array of M18 batteries I decided to say F it and used the ones in the mower, one of them for my trimmer and the other for my leaf blower.
    None of which ran out of juice by the time I finished up.
    Highly recommend 👌🏼

    As a mowing contractor here are my thoughts; if you rely on your push mower for a large percentage of your yards, then this probably isnt for you. However, for a contractor like myself. I cant wait to get my hands on one of these. I use my ride on mowers for 90% of my yards and have very few push mowing clients.. and the ones that do. i can still usually get away with using my ride on in the front.
    A push mower for me is a necessary evil. I HATE having to need a push mower, but i'll always need one on my trailer. Unfortuantely theres always going to be cases where the gates not wide enough, you need to get up steps or some other annoying reason why its necessary for you to have a push mower. This is light enough that i can carry it through someones house if they dont have a side gate (city jobs). I don't need to do maintenance on it, i can flip it upside down when it clogs up with grass without worrying about oil going through the engine and i can fold it up out of the way on my trailer or trailerless setup for those looking to optimise their trailer space.
    This is a niche mower for the pro that barely uses a push mower but still needs one. All the other battery mowers are junk for pros because they dont have the torque that a petrol mower has. If this thing has the same power as my commercial honda 216 buffalo and can last atleast 40 minutes in overgrown grass, then it will 100% be replacing my petrol mower.

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  2 года назад +10

      Wow, what a great explanation of the cost/benefit for a mower like this. While it may seem far-reaching for some, it totally makes sense for someone like yourself. We haven't compared it head to head with a Honda or Vanguard, but the power is very impressive, as you can see in the video. Thanks for sharing.

      I completely agree. Adding onto that if you are just a home owner whos heavily or even somewhat invested in the m18 platform as many of us are and own dual tower lights, miter/table/chain/circular saws, and vacuums this mower is a no Brainer. Especially if you own Milwaukees blower and OPE already. It solves a huge problem no other OPE can. The batteries are not just for the mower or OPE making them ridiculously priced and render the entire mower scrap metal in the case of a battery failure. Which will be less bc many of us maintain our m18 and m12 batteries year round. I'm so pumped to finally no longer have to store any gas and be able to stand the mower up against a wall. It's already so convenient to use.

    The best thing about the rear side discharge is that you can get in tight where a side discharge might hinder a turn or going by a fence, as well as preventing buildup from discharging into thick or high grass

    • @kwmiked
      @kwmiked 2 года назад +1

      I disagree, I've had a rear side discharge since 1998 on my John Deere mower and its a pain in the ass, grass blows out of wrong side, 99% of mowers it blows out the right side. So u use left side for edge cuts, now u have to go around everything backwards and it still blows alot of stuff in beds and walks 2 passes over, in thick grass with any Slight dew on it it clumbs and clogs. I hated this rear side discharge since 1998! And Its really holding me back from buying this mower

    Impressive power, no doubt. As someone with a small urban lawn, I really want to switch to an electric mower soon. But at $1k, this is WAY more than I'm willing to spend given my needs. Hopefully this is just the start for Milwaukee OPE. I'd like a less expensive model without self-propel, no LEDs, etc. Just a basic push mower for home use that would suit the needs of 75% of homeowners.

  • @georgewashington1106
    @georgewashington1106 2 года назад +1

    I have multiple Milwaukee power heads and multiple attachments that I use, and I love them. Additionally, I have multiple Milwaukee hand tools, so I'm heavily invested in the M18 platform. As a lawn care contractor, these are my thoughts on the mower.
    I have a Honda 21" mower, but I have no yards I use it for entirely. Even on my small yards, I run my 36". Mainly I use my 21" to mow the perimeter of a yard, to get in to tight corners where my 36" or 48" won't get. I don't use my 21" all day, but I do run it for more than an hour.
    If I want to ensure I'll be able to use this mower as a replacement for my Honda, I need extra batteries. An extra set would give me up to 2 hours, and that's not enough, so I'm looking at 2 extra sets. Those batteries run $249 each. So if I buy this mower for $1099, and 4 extra batteries for $996, I could replace my Honda for $2,095, but only if I don't plan to go over 3 hours of use.
    There's lots of contractors driving around with a truck full of Milwaukee tools. Sell us a heavy duty charger with a built in power converter that I can wire directly into my trucks electrical system, even if it requires a dual battery setup. Yeah, I know, I can buy a power converter. But I don't know what I'm buying, and I'm guessing some cheapie on Amazon isn't going to be sufficient. It would be nice to know I'm buying something designed by Milwaukee, for Milwaukee batteries. It's a lot easier to justify this kind of expense if there's a way to charge batteries on the go, rather than spending thousands just to have spare batteries rolling around in the truck.

    • @ToRo909r
      @ToRo909r 2 года назад

      $249 for 12.0 is full retail price but often I see them on offer up or Facebook marketplace for 130-150 dollars new. Usually people that get them with a kit but don’t need so many batteries. Anytime I need a new tool, I usually buy the kit and resell the charger and batteries. More bang for my buck 😉

    I wonder what the street cost will be after some time on the market?
    Pricey, yep. But of course Milwaukee is going to bring a very serious product out.
    My Cub Cadet push mower was at 500 and it continues to cost me every time I use it. Where this mower shines is for the person who is already invested in Milwaukee tools and has the batteries already.
    Once again Milwaukee does not disappoint with its latest offering.
    Thanks again for another great video.

But sitting on my shop stool (that has casters) it pulls me across the room pretty quick. Might try connecting my packout platform to it with a chair on it lol. At a $1000.00 with 2 - 12 amp batteries & dual rapid chargers makes it a great deal plus if batteries need charging can walk in shop grab 2 fully charged keep mowing.

I remember thinking how is this 90+ year old man pushing this heavy heavy heavy mower. Wasn’t till I was almost finished that I noticed some other levers. My understanding is that for height of cut measurements on rotary mowers one must measure at the front wheels. This is because there is an intentional pitch (about a quarter inch delta although like many things in life a bell curve applies 1/8" to 1/2" depending on design) between the front and rear blade height. The rear of the mower always being higher, since that is where the bag output is. Air is able to flow into the rear deck area, and not at the front - so a suction / vacuum is created and this inflates the porous mesh rear bag, and pulls clippings into it (lower pressure / resistance). If the front of the mower blade to wheel earth contact is one inch, then you are cutting the lawn at one inch. The M18 is likely 1inch or "what it says in the tin" as to height of cut, although I have not taken a tape measure to the very front of the blade under deck while at setting one. :)

I just came from Farm and Fleet and it's a beautiful machine but those expensive batteries are flawed for sure. What is the warranty process for batteries? Many are saying they only have 3 bars after a short time of ownership, some say they cannot get a hold of anyone to address their issues.

    Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how invested into the M18 line is Milwaukee? In terms of longevity. It would be a real pain to buy into the M18 ecosystem and then they make the batteries obsolete, and the tools are useless. I understand this is a potential issue with all the major brands, except for Ryobi? They've stated that whatever batteries they make in the future will be compatible with current tools. That's a big selling point for someone who wants to keep their tools for 10+ years.
    Cheers!

      That's a great question, and Milwaukee has proven that they're dedicated to the M18 platform. Thus, when they need it, they just include a dual-battery setup as in this mower. They launched the MX platform for larger equipment like demolition saws, large jackhammers, and even jobsite lighting; however, that's really not interfering with the 18V (M18) lineup. I'm definitely not a spokesperson for the company, but we do try to keep a pulse on what's happening. I think we're safe with the M18 line for quite some time. Thanks for watching.

    They need to add a couple of things:
    1. An eco button that only runs the blade at a lower speed to save on battery life and get a longer run time. Better yet, maybe even a dial for various blade speeds like the self-propel dial.
    2. 4 battery bays so we can use say 5.0 or 6.0 batteries that we already own. (like the Makita XML08)
    3. Non-proprietary blades, otherwise, they get to control the price unless 3rd parties make blades
    4. A cheaper price tag 😉
    I like these 18Vx2 electric mowers but think they still need to work on them a little more.

I bought my toto 60v for 325 on sale, yep you read that right vs 1000? Before then I had an ego but I just wanted self propelled and to try the toro . @shoptoolreviews please do a head to head vs EGO selectcut. I switched last year from a Honda HRX217 to the EGO and was very disappointed with the cut quality in comparison to the Honda. Other big complaints include too slow of a self-propel speed and the need to use almost two complete 7.5ah batteries to cut less than a half acre of yards.
    If this Milwaukee significantly outperforms the EGO, I'm buying. But if not, then the thousand dollars is much better spent on another Honda. Thanks in advance

    Great review. I’m due for a new mower and for a company like Milwaukee getting into this space it really seems like they used my Kobalt 80volt mower as a sample. I think nearly 5 years ago I paid $600 and that came with two 80volts (only one inserted at a time) batteries but get this…2.5 AH!! From the metal deck, to the way you raise the cutting height. All very similar to my 5 year old mower. So, I need to decide if it’s worth the jump over the Top of the Line eGo. I do like the metal deck but shocked it doesn’t have a dual blade.

    • @kwmiked
      @kwmiked 2 года назад

      80v 2.5ah is probably similar to a 20v 6ah battery, but those use 18650 cells and the Milwaukee HO batteries use a 21700 cell which is a better battery overall. Its all the same, its just the cell quality on how they rate them. They use more cheaper cells to call it a 80v but in fact you still have a 20v battery with low ah rating. A 18v Milwaukee battery is essentially a 20v battery when u add up 5 of them in a row. Do they call it a 18v at 3.7v dead or 20v 4.2v charged 🤔 🤷‍♂️

I spent the same on a Mountfield sp 505r about 18 months ago and it's been an absolute nightmare, with aftersales service none existent. At the moment, wishing I'd bought anything else! So do you know when and if they will be selling the 2823-20 (tool only) and the cost? I dont like the rear discharge, my John Deere from 1998 has that same rear side discharge and it comes out the wrong side. When u are so use to using the left side of deck to do edge passes and not blowing everything in beds or walks its really frustrating. And it clumps and clogs a lot in the tube if the lawn is thick and has any dew. So this is kinda holding me back from buying it. I really hated that rear side discharge since 1998 lol
