    I bought the first SB. I had a 9 meter. The bar pressure was mental and I hated it. I then bought a Revolver 7m (for those that can remember that kite) and I rode that forever...in 22-32 knots of wind (i am 95kg) and I pulled off some of the biggest jumps of my life with that kite, and some of my worst crashes. I then finally went to an 8 Drifter cause it was forginving like the Revolver since the Revolver was by then broken. Stayed with the Drifter for years, until about 3 years ago I took a chance on a 7m SB 2021...and omg...what an amazing kite...it has tons of power...its well behaved, but, a little scary once the wind starts to go above say 23knots...I wanted to have that all round range and comfort I used to have with the Revolver in the higher winds...so, I finally bit the bullet and liking the SB as I do so much, I bought a 5m SB 2022...and wow...compact, and just soooo comfortable in the 23+ Knot range, so I am good to go. Personally, and I am guessing a pro will laugh at me for this, but the SB 2021 is a super powerful kite and I think the wind range is advertised for pro sailors...or, somehow mine is like voodoo'd to absolutely be supercharged or something. :=)

      They are such simple and dependable kites aren't they? I'm just avg and trying to dial in frontrolls and backroll kiteloops... Switchblades just make new tricks so much easier.

    I think the newer Switchblades have less bar pressure than older Switchblades. Have a 2014 and 2019 I've flown back to back and i felt the 2019 had considerably less. Guessing Cabrinha msde efforts to reduce the bp over the years?

    As an intermediate rider (working on jumps >10') would I notice a difference in performance from my 2016 12m switchy to a new one? Is the new 2021 a noticeable improvement from 5 years ago or only an advanced rider would notice the differences? Or is it just a better wind range? Great videos btw

      Thanks! The Switchblade has not changed a whole lot beyond small details like more durable materials used. Hopefully they keep it as is in the line up and continue to try new designs and fresh models. - Rygo

    Good video! I am riding a 9m switchblade. I want to loop on it. You have multiple knots on the steeringlines attachments. The third knots is for the most power. Wich knot should i put my steering lines on for looping?

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  2 года назад +1

      Those are actually made for trimming the kite. The middle knot is standard as I recall. Provided your kite is not backstalling and is flying correctly you can use any of the three. I don’t think it will impact the loop in anyway. - Rygo

    Hey MACkiteboarding, do u think the switchblade is an okay kite to start learning aerial kiteloops with?
    I got a switchblade set and love it and am practicing down and heliloops now. Wondering if the kite is quick enough for kiteloops too.
    What would be a safe jump height for the kite to catch u after a loop with a 9 or 7 meter?

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  Год назад +1

      Thank you for asking, Sander. 🤙🏽 Can you learn loops with the Switchblade-yes. But, just be aware that it will give you a good yank when you do. If you're looping with the 9m and 7m sizes, you'll want to be at least 20 feet off the water to allow time for the kite to get back overhead and catch you after the loop.

    I own a 2016 switchblade +2020contra and just recently bought 2 orbit kites in a 8,10m sizes and I would def choose a switchblade over a lot of other big air kites just do to the fact of the better material used from the 2020 models and up. My contra with that double ripstop cabrinha uses I think is far better then what north is using. I crashed my contra kite into bushes doing a self launch going wrong and the thing was stuck bad thought it be ripped for sure nope not one rip on it. So honestly I wish I kind of went with the switchblade in the smaller sizes but marketing and hearing the orbit is the best kite for looping I bought a orbit but I can bet a switchblade will last longer and in my opinion that's what you want from a kite durability because every kite nowa days is pretty good and the differences between kites is very minimal in my opinion.

    Hi to all. I was useing my old 11m crossbow (2012) 9 years. Was crashing it when try to land the loop.. And that was it. Also have 2015 9m switchblade and 2015 6m switchblade. Like to ride them all. Im 82kg and useing 11m crossbow 7-12m/s wind. 9m like 12-15m/s wind and 6m 16-22m/s wind. Bars are also old ones. Both 2015. Now think to buy 2022 12m switchblade. Just like to ride with them. Im 43 and have been kiteing 17 years. 💪 🇪🇪

      Sounds like you've had an amazing journey with your gear over the years. 🤙🏽 That 11m Crossbow served you well for almost a decade-impressive! The Switchblades you have are also solid choices, and it sounds like you’ve dialed in the right wind ranges for each kite based on your weight and conditions.
      The 2022 12m Switchblade would be an excellent addition to your quiver, especially for those lighter wind days. You’ll notice some efficiency, handling, and durability improvements compared to your older kites. Plus, after 17 years of kiting, you know what you like, and if Switchblades are your thing, then it’s a good call to keep riding what feels right!

      If you're still using your 2015 bars, it might also be worth considering an upgrade for safety and performance. A newer bar would give you a more responsive feel and updated safety features.

      Before upgrading the kites, you should try upgrading your bar to a brand new auto swivel bar. It makes the world of difference, even if it´s hard to explain why. The new bars are lighter, smoother and stiffer. The lines (SK99 Dynema) are more direct and non stretch and with the added benefit of auto untwist and vastly improved safety, you can get a few years extra life out of your kites. - I can strongly recommend the 2024 North Navigator Pro bar, which is compatible with both low and high v bar setup. Just add the optional line splitter, if your old switchblade (the 11m) has a high v. The 5cm adjustable bar length, means you only need one bar to cover the majority of your kite range. If you are a die hard Cabrinha fan you can opt for the COS bar, but the North bar is superior in quality and feel, at the same price point. It´s absolutely worth it.

    What do you guys think about the SB for foiling?

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  3 года назад +1

      It's a good kite for foiling but not quite as good as a surf kite (Drifter, Carve) or dedicated foiling kite (UFO). The key to foiling switchblades is to rig a very small kite unless you are riding a really fast foil. The 5m and 7m get the most use for me. Anything larger is too powerful and slow for freeride foiling.
