I'm sure this video is not as fun to make as kiting. Thanks for showing the whole process rather than saying wrap up the kite once you had the lines secured around the bar.
I'll take lessons with this dude if I was closer. Nice teaching style.

Excellent. I used self rescue in the water since I was drifting in the open but when I deflated the kite I got some water inside of it. Next I just put my legs on the kite that had a bit of floatation and back stroked to the shore like an outer.

Yeah this is a good option, just have to be careful with sea water getting in your bladder it is important to keep the valve up and out of the water when delflating, I have seen it in our repair shop where sharp salt crystals are found in the kite bladder and casue a problem giving the leading edge punctures from the inside of the kite.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it's not the most fun skill to focus on but it's arguably one of the most important.

Can’t wait to visit watamu in December. Kite surfing seems fun. I would like to know more about it.

    But what about your board?

    • @Tribe-watersports

Very good question ! This is a tricky one. One option is you can try keep it on your feet while you are wrapping up the lines. If you have been seperated from your board; once you have flagged the kite, you may find you are able to swim back to your board dragging the kite with you. This would allow you to place the board back on your feet and continue with wrapping the lines up.
Some saftey minded kitesurfers carry an extra line, so in situations like this one they can tether the board to themselves.
However if you are truely in an emergancy it may just be better to leave it and find it later on. Do make sure you let the coast guard or local authorities know its missing, so they dont think someone is missing if its found out at sea.
Its not an easy one to deal with for sure and requires a bit of improvisation based on the severity of the situation you in.
      Hope this helps.

I think, really deep water makes self rescue slightly more difficult than shallow, like this

Deep water is water where you CAN NOT stand!!!!!

    • @Tribe-watersports
      @Tribe-watersports  Год назад

indeed it is, but for demonstration purposes to ensure we can get the message across effectivly its easier to film in water we can stand in.

I rather see you struggle in deep water so i can see what to expect when there is no ground to lean on. @@Tribe-watersports

@@Me-dv6tm We filmed both and felt that this one was better at getting the message across as it shows more clearly the method of each component of the exercise. I apologise its not to your liking.
May I suggest that you book yourself on to a lesson where someone can demonstrate to you how to do it in water that you can't stand up in; if you feel that would be of benefit to you.
