Just cuz those countries ban lootboxes, theyre doing gods work because they dont really care if you somehow still play a game with lootbox functionalities
This is the EXACT SAME REASON why I stopped spending money in the game and never looked back. When the permanent pets were first released, they made an event where you had to open boxes to get them. After the first few days they changed the rates, so pets were 10 times more difficult to get, without any notice to players. That day, I decided I would never give them money again until every item they sell for cash is cosmetic, and I've kept that promise
Didn't they make the new servers where everything could be bought for mesos?
@srboromir452 Yes, they did open Reboot, and most of the things can be bought with mesos there, which is why I came back to the game, but not everything. Most notably, pets, especially vac pets that are the most useful, can only be bought with cash, which is paid like a subscription. If you miss a day with events, you can recover it using cash, not mesos. You can also use cash to gain extra entries to content like monster park and maple tour, which affects your exp and mesos income. They also tried to sell bags of mesos for cash at some point, but players pushed back on that, so they had to remove them... which didn't stop them from trying and failing again. Recently, they tried to make 6th job a subscription thing and got everyone mad, so they had to stop that before release.
@@srboromir452 On Reboot, cubes can be bought for mesos, as can certain convenience items like hyper teleport rocks. Reboot still has many cash items, and the most "pay to win" of those was vac pets (perma pets being part of this convo too). For the low, low price of 95 USD plus like, 13? per month, you can get a pet that sucks loot from a long distance. USD, not mesos.

8 million dollar fine is a joke, the Korean justice system always under punishes criminals.
The worst part is that this is the highest they've ever penalized a gaming company, so they really think they're doing something.

I remember easily 7+ years ago on maple story MOBILE saying the cubes were rigged 100%, I would multi box 8 accs and use a cube on a similar item at the same time and usually 6 or 7 of the items would roll the EXACT same stats, exact same spot, slot for slot. it however took years afterwards for people to catch on and for nexon to get caught. the company is shady AF as has been for easily 10+ years.
Stop giving this game your time and money. It’s as simple as that. They’ve shown their true colors long ago, yet we still have people that whine about this stuff while continuing to log in. These same people probably talk about “corporate greed” and the little man getting screwed by big corporations, yet they enable it.

I mean it’s pretty good now still, you just don’t have to buy too much of their nx stuff. You can reach mid game (250) relatively easy now with hyper burning

maplestory died in 2015
At this point, Nexon recognized that it will never get new and active players again so they're milking as much as they can from the playerbase that grew up on their game and now have disposable income. But once our class of players starts to prioritize other things in life as we get older (such as family), this game is dead. I give Maple a very generous max 10 years before it shuts down for good.
That's kind of the reason the genre is dying.
I remember 2010 Maplestory…. That was a good time … I trained for years to beat zakum 💀

@@shadowhellzx I think my highest level was a 11x dexless sin, this thing was a monster but I remember wasting so much money on maple trade system (mts) when it first came out.. I do agree it was rough at times but god was it fun back then
Maybe its just me, but getting %mainstat (dex in my case) on my gear has a lower chance than getting any other non-useful stat like Int%/Luk%. It might be bad luck, but nah...Nexon wouldnt do such things
Every class gets int except mage. And makes get all others but int. I once had a xenon that had several all stat in unique but couldn't get it as legendary
I mean I'm not saying that that is beneath Nexon to do, but that is very easily explained by the fact that you have a 3/4 chance of getting a stat you don't need instead of the 1/4 for getting what you need.
I'm sure they did something, main stat always have lower chance appear than other stat, I've noticed that the %dame boss rarely appears compared to before.
It's not just you, it's clear as day. MapleStory players are just mental gymnasts.
Just one more reason I can't justify going back to the game, the list of shady, disrespectful or downright stupid choices that nexon has made towards the player base and the game itself is never ending and its a damn shame to see the carcass of a once great game be dragged through the sewers to try and catch whatever pennies they can from their addicted players who are just wading through shit.
I quitted several times over the 17 years I've been playing with about half of those being due to the bs nexon pulls, but about a year ago I came back and gave me a solid rule, don't force to play and to my surprise it has worked, at most I play an hour per day while watching youtube with days I don't feel like it not logging and have yet to feel the need to quit
its a waste of time, at least i can tell that, honkai star rail relic system is much more better than this bullshit, as you need to spend meso to roll and to buy cube with 3000x prices as well

Apart from the high level of time commitment the game expects from players, this is one of the many reasons I decided to pull the plug on continuing the game.
With so many content becoming cash-gated and when spending becomes an expected norm, you know something is seriously wrong. I’m seriously dumbfounded at such a move, to misuse and eventually forfeit the trust the remaining players have in the game

I don't remember the origin of it but the sentiment that if a company is only being punished with a fine, then that fine is just the cost of doing business. Or the related but still applicable, If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.
If a company makes more money from a deceptive practice than they would ever pay out in fines they have sweet fuck all incentive to stop doing it
Their maplestory m version also scamming the players with ninja nerf for drop rates and stats but unfortunately to the mobile version no one talk about this 😕

I knew there was something funny about how my boss loot drops was turned up like 500% on Christmas and cube rates where crazy but I never spend money so I can't get scammed. You only get scammed if you dwell in greed. Good luck maplers.
I remember when I was a teen , spending hundreds of NX cards on miracle cubes trying to get better stats on weapons...if only i knew.
I kinda assumed Nexon were doing things like this, and more. i can't lose any trust in Nexon because I haven't had any for a long time now. Maybe one day they'll give up their quest to be the shadiest company of all time and actually give transparency a go, but I wouldn't hold my breath. c:

I have a lot of nostalgia for Maplestory but I will never play a Nexon game again, I hope they go bankrupt.
Only 8 mil 🤢might as well make them pay in mesos. And this is just barely scratching the surface, they should look into more stuff. From what I hear they didn’t even look at the coding, they just looked at the emails and internal chat logs.
I have fond memories of Maplestory but Nexon is one of the greediest and most negligent MMO companies

The first time I ever felt scammed by this game was when they gave out those hair coupons that deliberately gave you a s****y hairstyle so you'd have to pay to get it fixed.
Honestly, new leadership at Nexon Korea is badly needed. These same corporate suits with their hard-nosed attitude towards the playerbase, and the developers, especially Wonkie, all need to be dismissed and fired. We need leadership that is Gamer and Community friendly and developer leads that are willing to listen to the community.
No one is going to want to take over the hot mess that is this game, lol. It's doomed.

Nexon is such a litigious company that I doubt they would let the FTC throw untrue accusations without retaliating with a suit. The fact that they are not and just going on livestream to “debunk” should tell you something.
I've been loving Maplestory since I came to the Netherlands in 2007. By the time, I couldn't speak any other languages except Korean and fortunately, it was the only game that helped me to adapt in the new environment that was far from my home country. Having Dutch friends to play the game together, and play soccer and so on.
I came regularly online to feel the nostalgic moments like most of players I reckon. It's really tragic to hear the news recently from Nexon to scam us, the players.
As of now, I lost my interest in playing Maplestory but I will still watch Coppersan's video.
So what's the plan now? Scroll gear and then cube it on an opposite stat character? Freakin' Nexon man
i've always hated Nexon/Maplestory ever since they did that "free haircut coupon" which butcherers your hair (i got the shaved head with a bald spot). And to get another haircut, you'd have to pay money for an item.... no thank you & goodbye.
Few decades later, i tried "Riders of Icarus" when it was early-in-development.... was fine, until they went pay2win & made "hard modes" which prettymuch required you to spend money on re-rolls to make your gear OP. Was fun, was artsy and nicelooking; but wasn't about to Whale my way for digital clout.
Pay2Win sucks sooo much.

I Hope MapleStory will get a real competition which will be made for players and thus it will get money from players. No real competition makes the company greedy and updates, and game development are at an absolute minimum
A month ago, when we all got the Lil Terry vac pet, I was collecting about 6-8 erda fragments per half hour of play. And when the pet disappeared, the number dropped to 0-2, even though I had 20% more droprate. What a coincidence...
I run 354 drop and still have my terry for 1-2 weeks. I mostly do dailystory aka 30min dailies and maybe 1 day a week I'll get like 8-10 frags from mobs then the other days I'll get 0-2. Extremely random.

There is a reason why GMS and KOREA has reboot servers while MapleSEA and maybe other regions do not.
Ive come to a conclusion that each item has a preset sequence of cubing results . Like the item has a hidden code that says its going to take 23 cubes to go from rare to epic . Some players might be so unlucky that theyll get one that needs 100+ cubes

So... Are they changing the cube system so it's now transparent and fair for everyone, or are they treating this fine as a payment to continue scamming as usual
I guess when my brother and I were making fun of this game by saying "this item hit so this one won't today, try tomorrow', we were correct.
I feel like it is the same for starforce. No way you try to go from 15*->16* and fail 10 times in a row, and then it breaks, but when you go on a starforce spree on a mule for legion power, you also fail at 0*->1* twice at 5%, then again once at 10% and then again once at 15%. I think I've seen an unreasonable amount of low chance fails back to back, and while I understand the power of streaks (like a coin flip landing on heads 10 times) and how one random chance event does not affect another random chance event, it seems to me that starforce is definitely tampered with. I won't be surprised if something like this comes up in the future.
I hope they turn the game around or somebody comes along and makes something similar but without all the horrible decisions.

Yeah I found this out wayyyyy before during the introduction to the star-force system. Consistently getting fails at "90% success", and booming a LOT with a "1.7%" or whatever low chace? Yeah, fuck these dudes. Ruined the game over a decade ago.

Most players play on reboot, where the rng manipulation doesn't actually hurt the wallet since cubes are basically farmed. (But still is annoying for reboot players because imagine farming for rigged cubes)
And there is an afk and new years event which explains the inflated player numbers.
There's a legion block event. People (myself included) are afking for 6 to 8 hours everyday because of it. I ain't missing this block, chief. Already missed lab server.
Identisk is a pretty good event for exp as well. Both for main and mules. And there's good rewards from it just for logging in and also killing 2k monsters 3 times a week (aka more stuff for doing your dailies)
Dmt is going on rn too for multiple weekends, and there were two 30% sf events in December I think.
Also, year of the dragon event can give sac selector, 17 star scroll, mag growth potions, by killing mobs (again, more stuff for doing dailies)
As you can see, you're very incentivized to log in and do dailies and stay logged in while alt tabbed to inflate them engagement numbers baybyyy.
6th job and new legacy items
Everyone who feels they were a victim of rate manipulation, file a complaint with the FTC and let them know the amount of money you spent and ask that Nexon America's Maplestory code be investigated. It's only right we look into this and find out.
We always knew probability was wack in Maple. Now there’s proof. 50% scrolls never worked more than half the time.

No one knows yet. Only kms was investigated. Gms shared cube types with kms for awhile so most likely. As coppersan said in the video though. We don't know if they even went as far as to change the rates per reigion as well. This is only just the beginning of a very messy scandal from good old nexon.

so yeah, this kind of situation just shows how bad intentioned they were. lowering rates without telling the base. thats why they lost things every now and then
i remember playing this a ton pre big bang. buying a cool cosmetic and it then dissapearing. i was told it was temporary :(
