    Hey Heidi 👋 I just recently made a joint & muscle salve using what I had on hand. I used my chickweed infused oil along with cayenne pepper infused oil and added clove, peppermint, rosemary, rose geranium, eucalyptus, lavender and cinnamon bark essential oils. Mine is definitely missing the comfrey so I'll need to place an order for that. Even so, I'm finding some relief using my concoction...more with the muscles then the joints though 🤪

      Try heating sea salt in a stainless steel skillet for about a minute. Put salt in a cotton rag, let it cool for a moment. Then apply the rag topically. I get arm and leg pain & often forget about this simple remedy, but let me assure you it is a night and day difference after I use a heated salt pack.
      One can apply a drop or two of an essential oil to the rag if they wish, or add a bit of vinegar to aid in the salt penetration of the skin.

    I'm also learning about herbs it seems like it's gonna take forever. Lobelia is a sedative, great for a lot of lung issues, and antispasmodic , it is great for helping people to stop smoking addiction. The caution is if you over do it internally you could throw up, use wisely. And I thought it was just a pretty plant. So yes God is good all the time!!!! I could give you more uses but I know you Will do your own research.

      Lobelia is a “thinking herb” and speeds up the action of other herbs like Mullein Tincture. I’ll have to plant some since it’s pretty! It is an emetic and it will make you throw up. When trying to save someone who is choking on mucus…. It could save someone’s life!…. But have Peppermint Tea ready to calm the stomach down.

    This came out at such a good time- Mike pulled the muscles in his neck. A friend gave me a jar of comfrey salve that I have been using on him. I’m having a hard time finding “specialty” oils, sweet almond, avocado, and others. Our local stores have stopped offering them but carry vegetable, coconut and olive oils. I was told that the other oils are back ordered, but I think they don’t sell as well so they aren’t bothering to order them. As much as I dislike going to Walmart, I may have to break down and see if they still have them. Thanks Heidi! God Bless!

    Thank you for sharing what you do and your knowledge of herbs and how to use them for joint and muscle pain. I have a bad total right knee, of which I could talk to you a lot about. It is very debilitating. In a nutshell, I wish I would have never had the total knee surgery just before I turned 50. I had a second total knee a few years ago, because the first one stopped bending. The doctor put in a "last resort total knee" meaning that it has long rods in it. I did not know he was going to do this. I have trusted doctors and now I cannot go back and get my knee back. I have been to 3 orthopedist that won't even touch it to put in another one. I am going to study and watch your videos and take notes on how to make the muscle and joint infusions. I currently use the menthol pain patches on my knee every day because that is the only way I can get through the pain. Thank you again and God bless you real good!

    Sounds like a great rub. Do you grow the Arnica? Sure is expensive to buy dried organic Arnica. I am looking for a source of Arnica seeds. I think once you have the plants growing, it does 'reseed' freely...like a lot of herbs. Even in zone 5. I use Comfrey root and have found out that when using dried roots that you should leave a lot of head space for expansion. Within a day it had swelled and it was one solid gel ball. :o) That was all the mucilage properties in the root. I learned the hard way and ended up putting the infusion in a two quart jar. For the first time ever, I have decided to make use of my cottonwood buds in the early spring. I am infusing them into olive oil (I have it in a cool, dark pantry) which I will leave for about 6 months before I make Balm of Gilead. Do you make this? I would like to learn more before I actually embark on making the balm. My cottonwood buds won't be fully infused into the olive oil until about November. God Bless!

      Olive oil is not near as stable as avocado. I know a lot of people use it for infusions but if you are storing it in a warm area, it is best to use avocado or other more stable oils.

    Can i use daisy flowers instead of arnica flowers? They have same properties right?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Год назад +4

      I do not believe regular daisies have the same properties as arnica. While they are both in the Asteraceae family, so are many, many other flowers, some of which really have little to no benefits while others have very different benefits. The aster family is the largest flowering family which also includes dandelion, calendula, sunflowers, and a great many more. While calendula can be beneficial in this, arnica is unique in its properties that help heal burses, sprains and more

      You can but I would would use it as an add in rather than using the oils straight in this particular blend. So for example, lets say you also want to add castor oil, consider going 2 parts avocado (or other such oil) 1 part castor, 1 part black seed

      Use whatever oil you want, just keep in mind of its heat tolerance. I do not use olive oil for my oil infusions as I keep them in a warm area to infuse and olive oil can go rancid far too easily and I have had it happen to me. I believe grape seed oil is another that is pretty heat stable but also not cheap
