It would be cool to see you release a kit, even if it was just the cut wood.
Man, I would happily buy just the cad file or even paper plans for these… it’s sucks so much that we are still yet to hear anything about these :(((
We will be releasing a video tonight with the updated design. It’s been a long time in the making!
Just an update if you haven’t been following: we released the MUM-8 over a year ago, and have been getting blinding feedback with customers in over 20 countries already!
www.presentdayproduction.com
Please sell us a kit version... Even just sell the details of drivers, amp, box, and crossover settings. THat way, those of us with the drive to do it will be able to own some true high end monitors for an attainable price.
That would be amazing! I've been looking to build some kit speakers, and I think these would be perfect :)
Even if you don't do that, this series has been really inspiring. Well done!
I want to buy that kit too ahahah
@presentdayproduction Hi guys any news yet on your plans selling a kit ?
Hopefully we’ll be announcing something very soon! There have been announcements to those on our email and discord subscriber list with our brand new speaker design, we’ll be announcing to RUclips soon!
@@PresentDayProduction Excellent. They look spectacular as well. I don't read forums either. Will you be releasing a kit to build the Flopcat Rage-O-Meter as well? 😆
People tend to forget that way back when in the early days of pro recording studios there were NO purpose made monitors, NO acoustic measurements, NO turn key solutions. That is exactly how monitors were built, tailor made to the room and use case. And to be honest, even today, if what you are after is top notch performance in your room a custom made solution is still the best option.
Great job and I loved the video series!!!
P.S.: I love the idea of a kit!
And that's partly why everything back from this era sounds like shit. Today we are measuring studio monitors because the ear in itself is a poor sensor, and because what we ear depends strongly on our mood and on what we are focusing.
Do you have any resources for someone who wants to build these? Utilizing a simple rack crossover like they used to test these? Perhaps using room EQ wizard to measure tuning
@@tvtime1505 way back when they did it from experience as well as trial and error. Nowadays there are acousticians and measurement mics and special software, test tones, the whole nine yards.
Been reloading your channel for a week and a half waiting for this one
Slacking, I've been sending death threats for this one
Someone didn't ring the bell lol
Releasing it as a modular kit sounds like a great idea! I was honestly hoping you’d offer that option anyways, since shipping fees exist… That being said, while I am incredibly hyped about the these and quite frankly extremely impressed by what you’ve been able to put together in such a small amount of time, I am unfortunately not in a position where I could spend that much on monitoring, even though I’d most certainly love to. I’ll definitely be watching their future development! Gotta have goals and stuff to look forward to!
Never saw you so emotionally. Professionally handled, well done!
I'm all in on the kit option! Sounds like a good compromise. Thanks for taking the time to build the videos. Great work guys!
Well done y’all, an incredible achievement 🎉
Can't wait for the next episode of this series !
you guys are BRUTAL. fantastic job indeed. the kit idea is the way to go, definitely. I’ll keep my eyes posted on this channel as always.
I'm from the UK and happy watching your journey through all of this, would to love to hear them for myself. The atmos capability also interests me. Don't pay any attention to the forums, it says a lot more about them when they're debating the semantics of something they haven't heard.
Nicely done gentlemen :: learned a lot with this series :: good luck with your future speaker adventures ... Much respect
Well said about the smart arses sending the speakers they have made & measured for testing, I doubt you will receive anything anytime soon! In fact if any of these turkeys understood the time, work and frustration that goes into taking on a project like this I doubt it would even enter their tiny minds to comment!! A huge well done on your incredible achievement guys, this has been an excellent series.
Yes please, a kit sounds awesome for delivery to Australia 🇦🇺🦘
I'm impressed. I think this is the first DIY speaker build I've seen that was done by professionals, and which is put to use for real work. Normally I'm suspicious of DIY speaker builds, because who is this person and what do they even know about audio? I'll trust you guys on this one!
Brilliant series guys. Thanks. 👏👏👏🙏❤
This has been an amazing watch tbh, really like the idea of a kit, that one could assemble with amplifier options etc. Great work guys
Excellent Content again Gents, I'm in the process of designing my own near Fields. Look forward to the Live Stream
That's some real content. Modern day renaissance!
incredible what you guys are doing!
I'm following your channel from Belgium, since the beginnings and am even more curious now to see what's next for you guys ! hats off !
Sounds like you lads have been busy. Your knowledge is next level. So much great information. As an Australian based Audio Post Specialist and educator, I'd be really keen on upgrading my 5.1 PMC setup to an atmos using your monitors as LCR and possible more. I'd love the CNC plans or whatever you guys would be offering. LOVE YOUR WORK. Can't wait to hear about the new bass driver. Keep up the great work.
Would love to see a 3way flat packed kit. Congrats to everyone involved in the project. Amazing work!!!!
2:22 to 4:19 might be some of the best content you've ever made. I heard these speakers (or an earlier version?) on my visit and they were sublime so yeah, these guys know what they're doing.
You do not throw B.S. far from it .I have been in Audio for many decades and your insights are on point .I truly appreciate your voice, makes for a Class A presentation. And I like your choice of drivers ,bravo ... Volt?! man...
Great video. You guys are a great inspiration. I love your guys humour and no nonsense approach to studio quality sound i.e. the importance of quality studio monitors and the acoustic treatment of the room. Your approach makes a lot of sense to me. I like the idea of maybe creating plans for sale for the DIYer is a good option too. I'm a fanboy!
Can't wait to buy a pair of these. Love the channel.! Keep it coming!!!
You guys always are extremely knowledgeable; you talk good sense and I love the passion with which you strive for perfection. I salute you and your fantastic team. 😎
Thank you so much :)
I agree about measurements. The most important tools I've used when evaluating speakers are my ears and my set of level-matched (by ear) reference tracks that I have used for 20 years and have heard on many different systems in many different environments.
Incredible stuff, the modular speaker idea is fantastic for those who start on a budget or don’t have the space at the beginning.
The rant on measurements was hilarious and totally agree it all comes down to the room it’s designed for.
I like that your measurement is based on number of revisions/clients feedback rather than some scientific measurements. At the end of the day music all comes down to how good it sounds and if the clients are happy, then happy days.
Thanks for the great videos on your journey to building your own studio monitors. Looking forward to revisiting the speakers I built for my home studio years ago now that I can afford some more expensive components.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it, that’s what it’s all about ❤️
Yes to the kit!
My vote for an electronics only active speaker kit with full build instrucions.
Yessssss, its about time
Love both ideas …. I’m super excited for what y’all are doing!!! Keep going!! And don’t give the haters any room … Awesome again family
Wonderful to be able to create a speaker with so many options and can work with a variety of rooms and tell the buyer, that he is going to have to do some work on the listing room. The best idea in audio I've ever heard..
Are there really that many haters? I think what you’ve done is amazing.
You’d be surprised!
Great work, great price, wish you lots of success!
The modular concept is quite awesome!
100% in on a CAD design and parts list purchase. if it ever becomes available
Now that's what I call exciting! 😁
I think the kit or the plans would be a great value for the money for the customers (depending on their construction skills) and way less hassle for you but
I have no doubt there will be a lot of people interested by the finished product as well
Congratulations for being crazy enough to start such a project and for being stubborn enough to make it real.
Thank you for sharing the adventure, the lessons learned, the final result and more generally, the knowledge you made accessible to us with this channel.
Actually really appreciated the rant!
I'd buy a kit. Amazing work.
Well done guys, gonna have to book some time to take a listen.
Thank you so much!
We have an update to this series here, which is much more relevant!

Totally impressed!
Kit would be amazing. Great work guys and great videos
Great video!! The speakers look amazing!!! I defiantly want a set!!
Cheers!
Great fun to watch. I learned a lot!
Another good one well done
These are sweet. The Modular feature reminds me of guzauski swist monitors.
Very interresting series of videos.
Yes yes yes 😍😍😍 this is once again and amazing idea
Awesome rant… made my day
I swear this right here, history in the making man
Great idea!!
YES! kit me baby! AUDIO AND LEGO FINALLY COMING TOGETHER!
LEGO SPEAKERS!!! Now there’s an idea!!
Thank you for the excellent videos of your journey through the process of building and testing your monitor speakers. Having spent many years in different phases of the audio business, I appreciate you being honest about the trial and error nature of this work and the acknowledgement that nothing in the realm of reproducing sound is free. All choices offer both ups and downs. The three way plate amps you are working with are very interesting to me. I'm currently using pairs of Kali In-8v2 or MTM speakers with a servo'd sub in a mid field setup. My room allows lot of space to the sides and behind the speakers in a stereo only configuration. The MSRP of your proposed design exceeds the entire signal chain of my system. So I don't seem to be a likely customer. Watching the videos was enjoyable for their excellent content, high quality production and entertaining presentation. It seems to me that your thought process is quite clear and correct about a possible product launch. Best wishes, Steve
Wow, Now that’s telling it like it is. The rant alone was worth watching. Thanks
Thanks guys, so much. Just watched all 3 parts. Stumbled across your channel today via YT algorithm and it's stonkin'. I built my own heavily braced 25/50mm MDF cabs to run what just happens to be almost your initial desired set up (Volt RV3143, VM752, but with Scanspeak D3004 with Hypex FA503 Fusion amps and it sounds 'kin great... in my house. My stumbling block is due to time constraints with paid work (I'm a maker)and I'm still getting used to the software for measuring and fine tweaking the crossover designs for the same reason but its a game changer it really is. The value for money is outstanding nowadays and I sense some industry discomfort for the potential loss it brings for those who charge great sums needlessly imo. I personally really enjoyed some previous sealed enclosure designs I've made and my thoughts very much echo yours with the results, especially on my old long term fave, the 10" Volt B2500 drive unit. 12 months a go I took the leap to the larger 12" for this and opted for ported as experiment alongside selling some great sounding Ayre amp and DAC to fund the Hypex transition, I've not regretted a moment of it. I hardly ever comment on forums/YT but you guys get a massive thumbs up for your sincere efforts and giving such huge value.
Thanks for your comment! We have another video coming this week about our progress with design updates
I have 2 hypex fa503 plate amps that I used to build a kit designed by SEAS called the kingRO4Y mk iii, it's an amazing bit of kit and I'm extremely glad I built it, so satisfying.
Absolutely fabulous lads! You really deserve all the credit! Fuck anyone who rants negativity at you in bullshit forms! The work you probably have done alone must be astounding. As always, your videos are fantastic with humour in bucket loads. Thanks, and I for one, appreciate your hard work. Keep it up. I will be in contact regarding a pair. 😊
Thanks FlopCat for notifying me!
Thanks guys for a bit of insight into the wonderous world of speaker design. If there is one key thing to take away from this video series I think it is if you want the optimal audio reproduction in your room - BUILD YOUR OWN SPEAKERS! - specified to that particular space and part;y to your own taste / personality as well. Simple but beautiful message. Make speakers not war✌
Well done guys very impressive….very impressive indeed
I’ll start saving now for whatever you all decide to release! Could you maybe even release a speck sheet with everything used, and all the cabinate and driver placement measurements and stuff and we could just source all our own stuff maybe. This is amazing that your doing this!
I love the Flopcat Rage-O-Meter. Great stuff!
You have no idea how valuable this series is for people who want to build their own speaker! Well done. Oh, I'm building a three-way with Hiquphon/PHL/ScanSpeak. Similar concept. No measurements. ;)
i'm in exactly the same boat as you guys, going from atc (45 in my case) to a fully custom built option as I have the time, the workshop and the will. I'm so happy that my thinking re pricing and quality and using dsp was confirmed in this video and also really happy to see that it worked out extremely well for you! Great video and awesome knowledge sharing! Thank you!
These videos are over a year old, so if you want to see where we’re at now, check out our website! Already shipping MUM-8’s across the world :)
www.presentdayproduction.com
Impressive - you guys really did your homework (stuff the detractors). If I had the cash I’d definitely be interested in the self-assembly option
Congrats guys! A lot of amazing ideas. The kit would be amazing, thanks for considering this option, very cool of you and so valuable for the community. I’m skilled at wood working, I like the idea to receive a kit with all the drivers and components and the plans to build the cabinets and assembly everything by myself. I understand that the modular cabinets could be very versatile for many people, but for my taste I’d go for the 3 way speakers in one cabinet. Thank you for this awesome opportunity! See you Sunday! 💙
Thank you! ❤️
The DIY option would be stellar!
Yep. I’m in for the flat pack kit.
Love your channel and will be definitely buying a kit if available in the future
plans, we want plans!! I've trusted you since the monitor placement video, that one video changed my studio in ways i never thought possible. For the people that live on the other side of the world, plans would make this attainable for us. cheers for the videos.
We plan for plans!
Hi, I was the guy who made the "the cabinet ended up as an afterthought. No baffle roundovers" comment.
First off, don't read too much into forum talk, it is the equivalent of pub banter. Minor optimizations aren't going to make or break those speakers, and expecting you to hit Genelec build quality on your first pair of DIY speakers is unfair. People just get uptight when you throw around "BEST" on the internet.
However, if you are willing to take feedback, here is some. The roundover you have present is quite small, and won't fully smooth out diffraction, which is a valid concern for speakers with such a wide dispersion pattern. The approach I use on my own designs is cut a 8" concrete pillar mold in half, epoxy to the side of the cabinets, coat with resin, paint, fill with mineral wool, and then cap off with 1/8" ply. This creates a 4" roundover with no cavity resonance.
Additionally, using T/S parameters for cabinet tuning can be slightly misleading. It is better to use Large Signal Modeling, so that you can check suspension and motor linearity as the driver moves. If you know your listening SPL, you should cabinet tune for the driver parameters at that input voltage, rather than at rest. Klippel has an LSI software package for doing just this. Unfortunately, this is cost prohibitive for one-off DIY projects due to the measurement equipment and software license cost.
Hope you have a great day, and enjoy doing Atmos mixing!
Thanks for commenting!
The diffraction doesn’t seem to be a noticeable issue in our testing and working on the speakers so far, but thanks for sharing the knowledge! We’d love for some of the forum folk to hear the speakers at some point. Maybe in the future that will be possible
I absolutely LOVE the modular design. Its a very cool idea, and I've not seen it's like before (not like this anyways. ) They have a beautiful aesthetic element, and I'm sure they sound out of this world. I'm interested, to say the least!!!
Please release as a flat pack kit, I would buy one for sure! This looks like a fantastic pair of speakers and very interested to see how things go moving forward.
I love the diy idea. As long as they come with some flop cat stickers I’m in!
What a fantastic rant! And spot on too! You go girl! 😉 Mark: You're a legend! 💪 It sounds like the speakers sound fantastic; I'd be really curious to see/hear how they'd do in other rooms, and if you find they still work well for your purposes/ears.
The modular idea is also top notch - I never thought I'd wanted to go back to speaker DIY (after very mediocre results trying to build some HiFi ones back in the day), but this is an intriguing project!
You have options because you know people who can get it done. Those prices aren’t unreasonable. I have a stand for the two way or the three way. Non resonant, sturdy and more than able. Some have supply train issues, but it isn’t going to stop things. Look forward to seeing and hearing that two way. I have a thing for those. Cheers mates. Excellent video!
I’m digging this speaker concept and think a kit would be a great idea. I’ve always liked the transients I get from sealed cabinets and am very interested to hear this design.
Love this video bro
Just an update if you haven’t been following: we released the MUM-8 over a year ago, and have been getting blinding feedback with customers in over 20 countries already!
www.presentdayproduction.com
Amazing, it's still a lot of money but I'd love a self-assembly kit. You get the joy and experience of building something yourself, with the assurance that if you do it properly it'll be an amazing pair of speakers.
Bring on the kit!
I love the DIY kits for 500 series. I would 100% be down for a speaker kit.
Well done series.... really nice video quality. Sorry you needed to add the rant. Otherwise, what a journey. I would love the kit version. Speakers, wood, electronics. Me love great sound as I create super custom wedding videos for my clients. It would be cool to hear how the sound is...or sounds. Thanks again from across the pond. Good stuff.
-thank you so much!!
Best thing I’ve seen all week 😂😂😂😂
Yes, do it, I'd love a kit for the MUM monitors, day one buy for me!
Awesome, I’m a Swedish old (55 y) man and I stumbled upon your channel. It was entertaining and informative as well as humorous. If I sometime in the future would like to build a similar speaker would it be possible to have some plans, like drawing of the cabinet, a list of parts used etc? Well, in the meantime I will be watching the channel, keep up the work. Greetings from “nobody” in Sweden 😊
I love it the kit would love that too 👍
Kits: a great idea!
Fantastic !!
You are absolutely right about the measurements! If i would be your costumer i would never cross in my mind to ask you about your speakers measurements , your private tools or temperature measurements of your studio (btw, the wood cabinet are painted by two virgin's? 😆😂 ) .... the quality of the song you're gonna mix will be my priority! At the end of the day, you build a tool for your workplace ....good or bad at least you did something for to help you improve your work. It's clear that some people are just jealous and made those comments 😞 For myself, I have learned a lot from you guys! I am proud of you! ...and myself too. Keep up with this and pleaseeeee don't make us waiting forever for your next episode 😅! 🍺🍻🍺
Hey James, Mark, FlopCat, and everyone else involved in this HUGE project. Congrats again on achieving the speaker build YOU guys (and cat) were aiming for. The modular system would be interesting for me too. Unfortunate i can't be part of the livestream on a Sunday evening. I am in the middle of a revision shutdown at work and we start at 6 am ( so alarm set at 4 am...). I will look at the stream when i find the time later that week. Many luck and all the best on the project. Cheers from Belgium 🙂
Thanks Johan!
@@PresentDayProduction Did you mention a livestream on Sunday ? I know you mentioned a livestream in the near future
@@renevanderbruggen731 AT the end of the video date and time is mentionned
Thanks a lot Johan !
I'd absolutely love if you would release these monitors as a modular kit. That just sound fantastic. I would certainly invest that money into such a product sometime in the near future!
You've done an amazing job. I think tweakability is the key to match the speaker to our room. Current DSP allows us to tune it as we want. A Kit would be Indeed so nice, specialy the conpact 3way!! But it's unrealistic to think anybody can achieve a good result without any acoustic knowledge, equipement or help (here you are).
It seams that this experience was a lot of fun for you guys!
Massive thank you from France for your channel and all you've done.
Merci beaucoup 😎
the flat pack is a great idea!!!
kit for the win! that would be great!
Echoing the others, would love a DIY kit, could be a fun way to personalize them. Love the work you guys are doing. It also seems to me like you're really enjoying the challenge!
Thanks Brendan, we’ve REALLY enjoyed the challenge!
People who've been doing this for a long time know that any monitor they buy are not going to translate the way they want in their studio environment, a custom made solution is definitely the way to go, I used a pair of speakers I knew and understood very well and it worked perfectly for me, so to people who say this doesn't work, you don't know what you're talking about go do your research, gain some knowledge and come back, this man here is talking the truth
