I discovered those on the UK Gearfest, where everyone was talking about them and I could listen to them live... they really blew my mind! Great to learn more about them here on your channel, Ed! Awesome content!
Hi Ed, i was lucky enough to visit Mark & James a few weeks ago to listen to both the MUM8's and in particular the MUM6's (as they suit the size of Home Studio i have).......The Difference between those and my current monitors (KRK 8's) was very Exposing of the whole spectrum and lack there of from the KRK's. I mostly mix on headphones (Focal MG Pro's) and found the MUM's to be very similar to the Focals but on stands and not on your head. Great Coverage Ed.
Hi Trevor, that’s great, the lads are very hospitable. I haven’t heard the finished 6s but they were on their way to sounding great when I heard them in development. Will you be purchasing?
@@EdThorne, I have arranged with James to go bact to their studio once they are ready for release to review for a final time. as per your listen they were in a slightly earlier development with James tweaking the DSP further but they sounded fantastic. Their ex[planation of the difference between the berillium and Silk tweeters was spot on, ad as i mix mostly Rock my ears prefered the silks over the Berillium. Really look forward to your feedback after having the 8's in your studio. All the Best Trev. ps. James does an ok cup of tea 😂
Your room, monitors and speaker management should be 1st priority. After 8 months of research, I rebuilt my room w/mid-field monitors in an upgradable soffit wall. They're the only speakers in the room as translation is flawless. If I do upgrade, it will be w/the MUM8's!
Saw them in the background - I struggled with the kh120s for so long because everything sounded good on them. It was hard to notice bad sounds because the speakers sounded great on everything.
Hello from Japan, so some years ago I reverse engineered my own version of the PMC MB2 XBD, obviously they are for my own use and they will be replacing my old Genelec 1033A. The amps I will be using are the Hypex FA 503 but when it comes down to programing the filters and all that lovely technical stuff i am absolutely useless .. I will be using all the Volt speakers that the originals use but setting this all up acoustically is another story. My studio here is mainly used for mastering but also some mixing.. Can anyone help. ? all the very best..
I'm glad you cleared up the real definition of a bad worker blames his tools...you should first, with the intention to be a good worker is make sure your tools will not fail before you. The phrase doesn't really exist in the professional world anyway, it was coined for cowboys, but tools can still fail. I good worker will blame his tools still, he'll just not continue work once a tool has failed. So many old phrases that make little sense but people use it to make a dig with no context to what they are referring to because it's a common thing to say... and that thing said is a fallacy anyway lol Not sure what speakers I'm going with for the Atmos setup but for my stereo it will be these... just will be pushing to get the subs to go with them 😅 The technology of the main cone is something I've not seen anywhere else.
I think a way to recover that sentence meaning is : bad worker balemes his tools, good worker makes its tools reliable in the first place and then can blame itself so : it is petty to continuously blame your tools when you could just upgrade them. I think that makes sense in that way.
Or maybe “a Foolish worker blames his tools”. That person being a fool for not replacing bad tools or not doing the hard work to negate the need for excuses.
@@EdThorne Yeah but that kind of insane unrealistic claim ( beating ATC on a first try making DSP smaller speakers ) make it very difficult for me to take this seriously . I usually rule out you tube marketing , it is not a bias ... just basic common sense .
@@chrisrevel2801 I heard the ATC in gearfest, they were nice, but I got myself the MUM-8s after being blown away by hearing them. I’m very glad I got them.
The amps that you talt about 20 minutes in the video is commins soon, when is that? there is 6-8 weeks of productiontime and it would be sad to get them and the week after there would be a more powerfull amplifier avaliable.
How about a MUM-10 with a dual tweeter and mid dome to be able to switch from Silk to Beryllium? You'd have to have separate setting on the trinnov when you switched, but then you'd have the right speaker for every genre... (ignore this idiot)
This sounds like marketing to me 🤔. Great mixes has nothing to do with all these sentences I’m hearing here. Get what you can and mix as much as you can. Don’t get discouraged by talks of details no real human gives a damn about. Get a decent headphones and speakers and give it your best, you will outdo these guys yapping about details in mixing that makes no real world sense.
Thanks for coming over and visiting us, Ed, it was great to see you again and get to go a bit geeky on our speaker journey!
Thanks for being so hospitable. It was a pleasure hanging out with you both (and the cat).

Thanks, Valerie. Yeh, they’re good lads and great speakers!

Proud to be a early adopter of the MUM-8 😌
Well played!
These looks INCREDIBLY interesting, debating booking a listening test & selling my KH310 rig
Personally I MUCH prefer the MUM8s to any Neumann speaker! By FAR! Although, what do I know, apparently Spike Stent is mixing on Neumann’s now. WTF?!
James and Mark are the nicest guys! 😊
Proper gentlemen.
love the grass framing !!
Thanks to You - Boz Skaggs. Incredible sounding track. Thanks for the recomendations.
Yeah, I already bought some tracks on itunes, very good songs!
Yeh, that one was new to me too and now lives in my Mixing/Speaker Reference playlist on Spotify.
Saw them in the background - I struggled with the kh120s for so long because everything sounded good on them. It was hard to notice bad sounds because the speakers sounded great on everything.
Oh I want those MUM-8 speakers so bad, need to save money for them and hope they stay the same price :D !
Don’t buy any plugins for a year and you’ll be saved up in no-time 😜
@@EdThorne I wish it was a thing :P, im a student, but ill get them, I believe, there is plenty of time ahead of me :D
Great guys great team 👌🏼
If they sound as good as they say
then you’re a lucky man Ed 🍀
I am indeed a lucky man.🤘
MONSTA - Holdin' On (Skrillex & Nero Remix) is a great test the speakers one
32:40 we love you, hey Mark and James, if I ever have the money..
What was the first track recommended? I can't catch what he says.
Thanks, Lewis.
Which Focal speakers did you try?
the main creteria to good speakers are the balanve between acuracy and responsiveness (oraganic behavior)
I agree. Just out of interest, can you elaborate on your phrase “organic behaviour”? I understand that as non-DSP…

Wow, I’m definitely curious. Not sure I’d be able to afford a pair though haha
They’re not “cheap” but they are a professional line of speakers and they are exceptional value for the money they are!!
I stopped being curious after they said that these speakers were better than their big ATCs , that does not sound legit at all to me . Hard pass
@chrisrevel2801 I’d suggest you don’t let preconceived bias rule them out for you. Like anything, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it 👌🔥

Can you do a vedio for the 500 series you have ?❤
Until recently it’s been changing frequently. I think I’m settled now so yet I could. Need to do some content covering the Wes Audio stuff anyway.
*video*
you need psi's :)
🤓🤓
The peerless drivers might be a upgrade
So where is the speaker? On the website as well, the pictures are so tiny, you need a microscope.
He did not answer the shampoo of choice!!! This video has no value now 🤣
HAHA!
Chilli oil, mixed with Ford Focus C-Max LVICT Oil

big like from ISRAEL !!
Whoa, 6,000 for a pair. That's alot. Better to spend the 30k then... lol gosh.
It's really not when you consider the quality they're delivering. They sound like a £10k speaker system.
