Wow! She's a beauty! I just adopted a rescue 3month old puppy, and I truly belive she is a whippet. Long legs, same eyes & ears and sweet expression. Let the fun begin!
I've never owned a Whippet but have always liked them. They seem to be a similar temperament to a Greyhound but in a much more manageable size. Great looking dogs.
Best dogs ever IMO. Its almost like they have some human genes imbedded in their DNA. They absolutely love running and stretching their legs, but once home often just relax and sleep all day. Very good around children and they have a lovely temperament. They don't smell like some longer haired breads as their coat is very short; in the winter they often need a jacket to warm up just like a human would.
Whippets are my favorite breed I have a one year old at this time that looks a lot like snilly greyhounds are wonderful dogs too but I think whippets are a bit easier to train
I'm hooked on Italian greyhounds! They're even smaller. We got 2 about 20 yrs ago and now I keep 8 of them. You might think that is unmanageable but really it's not. They are very well behaved and eager to please. Extremely affectionate and loving towards me and each other. I'm definitely hooked! I honestly never liked small dogs till I met this breed. Now there's no turning back! 🤷♀️💜🤷♀️
Its mad seeing a dog that was created right where I live all over the world, they are the best and most loving dogs, amazing with children and for anyone seeing these beautiful natured dogs they are an ideal firsr dog for an adult or child
Every 3 or 4 hours, that's a long time for a Puppy to hold their pee.I took mine out every 30 minutes when he was awake.Unbelievably he didn't get up to wee in the night. So a very quick learner
watched this with my whippet pup Louie (6 months old) who sat gued to the entire video! He is doing alot of those first year things :) Thank you for sharing xx
Thank you for this video and all your whippet videos!! I am looking into getting a whippet puppy sometime in the near future, and these videos are really helpful!
Once they get out of the puppy phase it's more of a joy, whippet puppies can be a handful on times but I honestly love mine to bits, he makes us laugh so much and gives the best cuddles 💖
Thank you SO much for making this video, because I'm getting a Whippet soon, but there is NO WAY I'm getting a puppy. It's kinda like having a virtual puppy - no mess! Puppies are the BEST! I don't have the energy for them anymore.
We've had our whippet pup for a month...it's like we have the same puppy as puppy Snelly. Exact same. It is amazing how intelligent they are. We had the instant bond with our Arwen like yall did. We have a greyhound and a mixed Humane society mutt, the mutt and whippet are best buds, sleep all cuddle up together. Arwen wants to play with the old greyhound, but he isn't interested. Anyways, this video really helped me be prepared more than I realized. The tiny bladder, the excessive water drinking, the crawling under anything, the inhaling food (just ordered food puzzles), etc. Thanks for making this video for new whippet owners!
that part where you said we would think you dont feed her😂 our whippet is the same! although he is mixed he is mostly whippet like in appearance that when somebody asks we just tell that hes a whippet. hes so cute and so full of energy and has a big appetite!
She's a doll. So fun to watch them. I've never been around a Whippet, but have watched videos. I've decided Whippets are perfect "Grandma dogs." By that I mean I'd love one of my kids to get one so I could love it and have fun with it, but NOT have to keep up with all that adorable energy. You know, be a Grandma! Thanks for sharing your nice family!
We just rescued a dog from a Caribbean island. She is a whippet mixbreed but she has all the looks of a whippet and boy is she high energy and smart as hell. Quite the handful. She got a hairline fracture in her left femur by running in the backyard. Probably due to improper nutrition as a potcake street dog. She is growing really fast now. 10lbs in a month. She even runs full speed with a splint on and I am running after her to stop her from injuring herself so leash it is. She is in the biting phase. Baby shark on the loose. Ouch.
Your video was very sweet. I really enjoyed it. :) I have a hound/whippet mix named Ginger and we watched it together. I am thinking about getting her a little friend like Snilly. Very cute names, btw. Y'all are such good parents! Enjoy the pups!
I will definitely be getting another whippet, my puppy is now 5 months old and next year I will get her a companion. Great dogs. Dee-Dee was so easy to house train so I hope the next puppy will be just as quick to learn. My puppy would love a play mate. When she is a year old I will start looking for a younger brother or sister for her. Everyone comments about the blue grey colour of my pup and looking at snilly her colour would look lovely, compliment each other, would be a sort of matching pair 😂
Nope a pen would be a disaster. Great video and having been the proud dad of two fantastic whippets I recognise many of Snilly's traits. My two were just a year apart in age and grew up lovely together. After living with whippets I cannot imagine owning a different breed.
Yes, a whippet breeder told me baby gates were a bad idea for whippets because they will learn to jump the pen to get what they want. Once they figure it out (and separation anxiety is a huge motivator), no fence can hold them. I'd go with a covered playpen instead.
I have had several puppies (yes, I'm old. LOL) and I would say that the excessive energy after about 3 months (before that they sleep all the time), the chewing, is normal until at least a year or more. I had a border collie puppy that we took out every 45 minutes. Others could go 2 hrs. I think for a 4-5 month old, about every 2-3 hours is very normal. They just can't hold it longer.
Whippets are the best. Yours are adorable. Please get a proper traditional sighthound collar for them or use a harness though. Their trachea are susceptible to collapsing more than other breeds because of the shape of their neck, and if yours are anything like mine they do pull on them! Cheers from England.
Omg her coat looks like marble! What a sweet gal and pair you are so lucky! Are whippets only pedigrees? I have been looking for years on petfinder shelters for an Italian greyhound or whippet. I am going to fly anywhere in the world for the right dog. If anyone has puppies please post...I have four dog parks here and no interest in having kids!
Yeah, whippets are generally purebred and a very safely protected breed. You won't typically find them in shelters, I would ask some breeders for recommendations.
We watched Snoot videos before deciding to add a Whippet to the family in May 2020. Mable is now 11 months old and we adore her! We are already taking about adding a 2nd for a play mate. Whippets are the best!
Wow that's so cool to hear that Snoot's video helped you guys decide on whippets. And yess whippet puppies have so much energy, a playmate really really helps!
Thanks for showing people what life with a Whippet puppy will be like. They chew everything that they can fit into their mouths and when you take them outside they run and run like 'mad things' and must be in an enclosed area to do it safely. They don't know what "Come!" means. They pee everywhere if you don't take them out for walks constantly - and sometimes even when you do. Then just when you begin to wonder why you ever got a Whippet, one day they are five months old and begin to show you what wonderful house dogs they will soon be. Once a Whippet 'grows up' they become the easiest dogs around. They sleep, they eat, they go outside for a "pee break" and a bit of a run - and then they come in for a long nap. When Whippet is an adult the worst thing they do is steal the blankets from you on your bed. They are well mannered and follow whatever 'dog rules' you set for them. They would prefer not to have to go out at all on a wet or cold day but will wait politely until you put their coats on. They go out for their 'walk' and then are ready to come in, have their paws wiped, and go back to bed. I've even seen Whippets that washed their own feet on a mat before coming into the house! Whippets do love to run. I had a Whippet that had been trained to race. He would go and get his racing muzzle and his racing jacket and bring them to you when you were still in bed on a race day. He would toss the muzzle onto the bed just so you would not forget that it was time to get up and go racing! Whippets are easy to keep clean as they prefer not to get dirty. If they bark in the house, call the police. Whippets prefer a quiet home where everyone has good manners. If you have children they will soon learn that Whippets don't like to be pestered. I have never seen a Whippet snarl or growl at a child but they will get up on a chair or couch where the toddler cannot reach them. I saw a Whippet bark once very loudly in the face of a child who would not leave him alone. The child was known to be an undisciplined terror but she clearly got the dog's message. She sat down quietly until her mother told her it was "Time to go."
We just adopted a 1.5 year old Whippet this past Thanksgiving and named her Sully. She has such similar patterns to your pup! Very similar habits too 😂 Since we didn’t get to see what she looked like as a puppy, I loved watching this and thinking she’d look just like your Snilly. Thanks for sharing! She seems like a sweetie.
My whippet pup is just the same, played fetch from 9-10 weeks without being taught, walks at my heal on or off the lead, without being taught.. she’s amazing in every way. Whippets are the best dogs.

@Rosie Hately Aw that's so cute! I bet Snilly would love to play with other young whippets
I hope my dog would get along with Snilly because in about 1-1/2 months we’re getting a whippet puppy! So we shall see. 🤞🏻
Yes! Our whippet Charlie is 3 months (and very much in his teething/eating everything phase) but he would loooove Snilly
Yes 100%
My 3 y/o would love too, she likes other dogs that can keep up lol🤣

Hm I am not sure, my dogs got along pretty well from the start
Don't worry about it, they get along well with other animals pretty easily.
At what age did Snilly chill out? Our whippet is 4 months old and very much into the teething/bite everything stage
Mg whippet calmed down after 1 litter of puppies, she was 2 at the time.
My boy whippet mostly chilled out after he finished teething (around 5-1/2 months). He is 10 months now and still likes to eat paper and cloth, but it's SO much more manageable now. I think it really varies from puppy to puppy though.
I am looking for a puppy... have a few dog parks in my complex...empty nest!
18 months is usually when they calm down and become more relaxed.
I breed Italian greyhounds
💜🤷♀️💜
What's it like living in an apartment with a whippet, would you recommend it?
I think it's great, we go to the dog park frequently but they only run for 20 minutes and that really helps tire them out.
Try an Italian greyhound, they are ideal for apartment living.
how long did the biting phase last? doesnt look like she was that destructive at all
It only last about 2 to 3 months. Usually from 4 months old to 6 months old.
Could you please give me some information on your whippets' health. Are whippets generally healthy dogs? Thanks in advance for answering!
Yes, Greyhounds in general are very healthy dogs. Especially Italian greyhounds, they are known to live 16 to 20 yrs. With very few problems if any.
