Installing my '17 Civic Hatch Fog Light Housing & Tint

- The Fog lights on my 2017 Honda Civic EX-L were completely shattered and needed to be replaced, so enjoy the process of tugging off my bumper to get to the housing. They came out so nice in the end and transformed the front end with the yellow touch giving it more of a JDM look.

For anyone doing this in the future, it's not necessary to take off the bumper to access the fogs. Instead, you can unclip the fake vents by working from outside the bumper. Using a nylon pry tool start from the top edge and go around until at last you'll see the pop-up fastener at the bottom. Once removed you'll have easy access to the 2 philllips screws attaching the fog assembly to the car, and you can easily disconnect the wiring harness and/or twist it out of the old assembly and reuse it (my bulbs were still fine so I just re-attached them to the new assemblies). I just did it on my 2018 hatchback sport, same bumper fascia as the one shown here.

@@KaylaRundle If you're just changing bulbs (going with LED perhaps?), I would go in using the access flap under the car and avoid the risk of breaking any of the plastic/vinyl stuff on the exterior vent or bumper. Especially as you already know how to twist out the bulb from the housing -- and then just disconnect it. btw, my hatch is also the pearl white and, oh boy, very dirty behind the fake vents!
@@KaylaRundle You should have realized this when you had the bumper off back in Feb'21 and had to release the air vent cover to get the fog light housing off 🤭

You could've just removed the front left and right fake vent garnishes instead of removing the whole front bumper when doing a fog light housing replacement. It makes things a whole lot easier. That's what I did when my fogs cracked.

Thanks so much for sharing this v detailed tutorial! I watched so many others and got stuck a few times because they would skip or gloss over instructions.
YOU DON'T NEED TO PULL THE ENTIRE COVER OFF. You can pry off the SMALL COVERS on the front using a pry tool. Once it's off, there's a pop-it toward the bottom center, pop and remove. The entire cover comes off. Then use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the fog light. Change the bulb and or assembly. PRIOR to reassembly, clean the crevices of junk with a spray bottle and use some compound to polish up the fog light lenses and covers.

Thanks for this video - I'm going to try just removing the facia around the fog light to replace mine as others have suggested below. It was also nice to see the technique for installing the Lamin-x film (I'm doing that too). Excellent work - I'll check out your other videos.

On my 2019 civic, all I had to do was pop the black grate piece off by prying the clips from the front… did not have to remove the bumper or anything crazy
I changed mine in less then 10min going thru the vents the fog lights are in. This videos crazy to me.
I didn’t see the 4 screws that mount the fog lights when I took off the vent 🤦♂️ am I tripping? I don’t wanna take off the whole damn bumper 🤦♂️

Civic is completely covered in plastic at the bottom of the car. To remove every individual clip on the bezel you need to remove the bumper. There is no wayyy it would be faster to keep the bumper on and try to get it out

NIce video, BUT!, you just need to remove the black fake vent garnishes on the bumper, then you can take a Phillips screwdriver and remove the foglight from the front. No need to remove the bumper, just pop out the vent thingies from the front. Ooops! I read @SpringRubber 's post and I feel silly..

Any burn marks on your tinted vinyl? I keep seeing reviews that the fog lights"burn" a spot in the film. Idk? Maybe those people have hotter bulbs?

Yeahhhhh it was too big for the opening. It depends on each clip- the tool usually works well but I was having trouble this time lol... better for the GM clips
Replace your bracket that mounts the fender. And you’ll be fine

Did you go back with Honda OEM lights or another brand? If another brand, how are they holding up to rocks and moisture?
fwiw, my 2018 Sport Hatch OEM fogs are branded as "Stanley" with Philips halogens. The replacements I purchased are made by Depo in Taiwan and came with Osram halogens. The new ones look 99.999% identical to what came on the car. Other than the bulbs, the only visible difference I notice is a minor variation in the vent cap on the back of the assembly. The OEM/Stanley one is grey and the new one is black -- made me curious as to what it was but most people probably wouldn't give it a second thought as it looks like it's part of the molded assembly and not even a cap. As for rocks we'll have to see. I'm covering these with lamin-x.

@@ballen7128 CarParts.com First time using them and it was like $60 shipped for the set, bulbs included, and they arrived in less than a week. My car is all stock and when doing anything I always check the honda sites first. I was hoping these would have polycarbonate lenses but the manuf marking indicates they are glass, just like the OEM.
