His illness seems to have turned out to be similar to the Rot Pebbles has, if not exactly that. Gourmand takes place after Hunter in the timeline, therefore its recent enough that Hunter's Rot infected corpse (deemed by the community Hunter Long Legs or HLL) has been reanimated and is still walking around the world. Its actually quite horrifying to realize/think about, and I feel really bad for Hunter here. He never got his peace even in death :(
@Dom I believe Hunter had long since succumbed to his illness and isnt alive as HLL. Its basically just a small Brother or Daddy Long legs now, just using his body as a vessel. At least he didnt have to suffer being like this as he probably passed away during Ascension :,(

@@furyleferret2288 thats what i was thinking i tried beating the hunter with all 3 objectives before downpour, and i died on cycle -1 in subterranean. i tried again after that failed run and did it. still, even though i beat hunter mode, i encountered dead hunter where i died in subterranean. additionally, my save file didnt transfer correctly into the dlc and the game thinks i have not beaten hunter (i wasnt able to play rivulet/spearmaster on release day) it was kinda confusing at first, but now that i think about the game probably just forgot somehow about the most recent run? maybe steam could didnt update or smth idk
@pegrat i don't think it's a save file thing, i think that before downpour there was no reason for the game to keep track of whether or not you had beaten hunter so it just didn't have a value to say whether or not you had beaten it
@@texasred8424 then you remember they actually changed hunter's fate hunter originally became a karmaflower , he still does but after gourmand so i think now he became a flower because the rot disfigured his body and when it truly died out of starvation, the world(cycle stuff) could not bring back hunter to his original state so it just made him a flower, and i think that would be a good explanation to how those flowers came to be, just creatures that had their body disfigured before a death, and on that note it makes me think that cancer in rain world IS the rot, that would explain why all creatures fear the rot even if they never encounter it, also Seven red suns and NSH talk about how pebbles got the rot, not naming what he had but saying he had it

I’d initially hypothesized that they had some sort of augmentation that would be removed by the process of being reborn and so it would count as a sort of death as they’d come back different in some way. What I did not expect was for hunter to turn into a flesh monster just barely alive enough to not count as dead.
Things can die in rain world, best way I've heard death in rain world lore described is that when something dies it moves up or down a layer in reality depending on karma, and wakes up at the point at which it last slept, which is why dying is actually really bad in rain world. Dying of stuff like cancer or getting killed in your sleep probably leads to diavolo-esque death loops

The way I see death in rainworld is that creatures come back again as a different creature when they are die, to the moment of birth: reincarnation. In game you are sent back in time when you die because canonically you don’t die at all if that makes sense. The only time you canonically die is when you ascend or if you fail to ascend like hunter here. Unless there’s a Pearl that states otherwise that I haven’t read

I'm curious as to if this implies that NSH has the rot. Hunter will die of rot infestation no matter if he meets Pebbles, so he can't have been infected by 5p's brand of rot. In a number of Spearmaster's transmissions, you learn that knowledge of how to create the rot seems to be something of a poorly kept secret. SRS knows how to create rot for certain, and NSH talks about it as if he has some information on the subject, though nothing is directly stated. Maybe NSH has the "correct" form of rot, one that isn't actively destroying him the way 5P does, and Hunter is unfortunately dying of a rot intended to kill his creator.
I have a better explanation in my opinion. Basically we know from the talks between NSH and suns in spearmaster that purposing and raising a messenger takes... A lot of time. So my personal theory is that NSH tried to rush the process in an attempt to save moon quicker. Hence due to that mistake the hunter gained the rot.

thats the gourmand, one of the slug cats for downpour, he a chonky boi, the fuller he is the shorter his jumps, falling a certain height can damage preditors if he lands on them, there are some other things it can do cant quite remember i think one is about spitting up items and the other is about the gourmand doing something if you have food in both hands/paws

It’s that it’s using procedural animation in the same way that something smaller than it would, and ends up klutzing its way around and generally looking silly. Procedural animation is one of the best parts of Rain World, but only Joar can do it well, it seems.

Yes, and only if Hunter permadied. It's implied that Gourmand comes shortly after Hunter in the timeline. This is also why Gourmand has Hunter spawns

thats the gourmand, one of the slug cats for downpour, he a chonky boi, the fuller he is the shorter his jumps, falling a certain height can damage preditors if he lands on them, there are some other things it can do cant quite remember i think one is about spitting up items and the other is about the gourmand doing something if you have food in both hands/paws

It’s that it’s using procedural animation in the same way that something smaller than it would, and ends up klutzing its way around and generally looking silly. Procedural animation is one of the best parts of Rain World, but only Joar can do it well, it seems.
@@loggersviii1228 it probably doesn't help that the people that originally created the miros vulture and all the other new creatures weren't really professionals to my knowledge only being modders (though that begs the question why didn't they have joar rework the new creatures because by the sounds of it he didn't)
